This song is more than awesome. As an American having lived in Germany for over 42 years I still feel very much "American" when I listen to this song. 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I'm 52 now so my teens and early twenties were all in the eighties and it was a much happier and simpler time, always get a sense of melancholy for a lost time on hearing music from this era. I know partly it's seeing the past through rose tinted glasses as it certainly wasn't all good but simpler and happier for me certainly.
Who's listening in 2023? This is one of the few songs that I do NOT remember; I'm sure I heard it before since I was very aware of music in 1983, but I don't immediately recall it. Having said that, I like it - it fits the vibe and I'm glad to have (re)discovered it.
Holy cow. I'd forgotten, about this song, but I actually remember it being on the radio for about a week! Man, there is so much 80's in this video it is almost painful, but in a good way!
Bravo bravo bravo bravo bravo for my five menbers of my family... Gracias thanks grazzie.. You are a totem for me in your music art... Gracias bravo .. Your music is the soundtrack ours life.... Thanks mathew
I thought "Break My Stride" was okay, but I LOVED this one and thought it was much better! A much overlooked classic! I love the power and positive energy! I had a the 45 and was a 13 year old 7th grader at the time. I know Matthew went on to a huge career as a producer, but I wish he'd make some more solo albums!
A fine follow-up to the bouncy "Break My Stride," this hit number 33 in 1984. "Break My Stride," peaked at number 5 I think. Very nice stuff from this multi-talented gent who has written and produced songs for a number of huge stars, lent his singing voice as Ling in Disney's "Mulan" and was also nominated for Best Original Score at that year's Oscars.
I love that my friend Rhonda is in this video!!! Rhonda Vision is an American Phenomenon. She idealizes a classic American feminine beauty that is easy to love for several reasons. Besides being talented and creative, she is a natural actress, which means her true personality is expressed in roles. With Rhonda her art tends to be full of complexity and passion. Her humor often comes in the form of post-modern satire and paradoxical contradictions. She clearly lives to perform comedy and entertain others. Rhonda intuitively understood at a young age what Democritus and Shakespeare wrote about concerning Life, the World, and Theater. - Drogo
Erik Bananaman I agree. "Break My Stride" was a hit for a reason and that's because it was actually a good song. And people back in the early 80's had better taste and it was also a time when people still had input when it came to determining what would become a hit.
This is the first time I've heard this song. In the UK Break My Stride was a big big top 10 hit, but The Kid's American did not make our Top 40 at all.
There was never a music video for “Break My Stride.” Wilder has said by the time he pitched one to his record label, the executives laughed at him and told him that there was no point at that point to make one because the single had already become a hit.
1984 was a good year but i only hated High School. Very different in many ways. Technology was easier. Computers were much complex. There were more office jobs then. File clerks no more. Secretaries no more. Data entry are getting rare. I have always wanted to work Office. Only did that a few times temporarily.
This song is more than awesome. As an American having lived in Germany for over 42 years I still feel very much "American" when I listen to this song. 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
He is totally Underrated he's great
Definitely underrated, Michael. Matthew is brilliant.
Remember listening to this song in January 1984. Seems like yesterday.

It's 2020 and we are now living in 1984.. but not the year, the novel.
R u still alive?
Never heard it at the time although it was obscure followup to "Break My Stride", making Matt a 2 hit wonder
Super song from Matthew Wilder forty years ago. It did not receive the publicity it deserved!
Remember this on Friday Night Videos 40 years ago!?😄🎵🎶🎷🎸🎹🥁🇺🇸
It's time to bring back the '80s, whatever it may cost!
YEASSSSSSS!
i will be the sacrifice
Cocaine is awesome
Please, send me a ticket ..... back to the 80s
Yes
Every-time I watch any music-video from 80s, I always wonder how could life be so simpler, happier, yet better than these days?
Looking at era with rose tainted glasses.
I'm 52 now so my teens and early twenties were all in the eighties and it was a much happier and simpler time, always get a sense of melancholy for a lost time on hearing music from this era. Denny Rahardjo No social media has a lot to do with it.
I assume you didn't live in the 80s
The threat of nuclear fire

Literally me. Someone told me Matthew Wilder had another song besides Break My Stride. And I didn't believe him. 😂
Tiene otra cancion famosa break my stride
Also in 2024👍

Holy cow. I'd forgotten, about this song, but I actually remember it being on the radio for about a week! Man, there is so much 80's in this video it is almost painful, but in a good way!

What a great song! I remember it well. Blessed to have been a teenager in high school.
Great song!
Such an underrated song. Should have been a top 10 song in the US.
SHUT UP
Why was this not #1. I was a metal head, but loved this song.
His first, "Break My Stride" was a top 10 hit.
"Underneath the hood, the kid's American." A brilliant line; poetic technique.
Chevy Nova, Oldsmobile Cutlass and Nissan 280zx underneath the hood the kid's American!
i dont get it
@@ttvloosagna2959 I think it means he's got a V8 in his pants ... ;)
I was waking up thinking about this song, and knew I would find it on RUclips. Haven't heard it since the 80's.
Bravo bravo bravo bravo bravo for my five menbers of my family... Gracias thanks grazzie.. You are a totem for me in your music art... Gracias bravo .. Your music is the soundtrack ours life.... Thanks mathew

This song should've became a much bigger hit than Break My Stride. This is a classic power pop song of the early 80's!
This song is boring as hell!
Agree
@@danielcoy4938 Well, not everybody has the same taste of music.
I remember this song ... But I don't remember it being THIS GREAT!
Every time I hear this, I envision Marty McFly, Axel Foley and Rocky Balboa all hanging together in a salute to the 80's....Lol
Matthew Wilder ROCKS!!!
he needs to do a comeback album!
as long as he loses the hair. ;)
nuntana2
He never really went away - see comments above!
Agreed - no comeback hair!

Mathew has produced songs for No Doubt, Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson, Miley Cyrus among others... god bless
And he wrote songs for the Disney cartoon "Mulan".
+Greg Palmer and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Score.
I think that was Jerry Goldsmith. Wilder just wrote the songs.
And sang one of them.
Atualmente...O Mathew Wilder...É Um Grande Produtor Musical...É NOTA 100.
I heard this song the other day on XM radio I had the eighties channel on ! Many memories! This came out in early 1984 !
ESTOY SEGURO QUE S EN LOS PROXIMOS 20 AÑOS SE CONTRUYE LA MAQUINA DEL TIEMPO LOS 80'S SE LLENARÁ DE CONGENERES Y DE VISITANTES NUEVOS!!!!
I remember seeing this on Friday Night Videos in 1984. And it sounds better now than it did then.
Agree 1000 percent about it sounding better now!
Actually, this is a very well done video. Good direction, editing and cinematography.
Almost too good ...
Song was always playing on the radio, early ‘84.
Sadly, it probably isn't now anymore, due to being overshadowed by the far more successful "Break My Stride".
WOW I haven't thought of this song in YEARS!
THIS SONG WENT TO NUMBER 33 ON THE BILLBOARD HOT-100 CHART IN 1983.
I love this...i have never heard it
The art of American icon! American Dream. Great music video Song.
Thank you, Carl and Shaggy Doind the Macarana Meme, for introducing me to Matthew Wilder. This awesome.
same here man
Amen
same
This was a much more memorable song than his other one.
Nah ... "Break My Stride" is a classic minimalist 80s pop song. Genius! (But don't get me wrong! This song rocks and sounds even better today!)
Love the saxophones! An 80's song without saxophones is like a peanut butter sandwich without the jelly. 🤠
I remember seeing this video on Friday Night Videos when I was 4 years old. Fun memories!
The line bass and its sounds is killer
The very first video I’ve ever seen with captions on PBS back in 1984.
un tema muy retocado radialmente por este artista y compositor de origen norteamericano,, una cancion muy pegajosa y fiestera de los ochenta , gracias a MatthewWilder VEVO por subirla,

0:51 Oh, hell yeah :)
This is great. I didn't know who I was messing with. Matthew is the kid!
I know! I can't believe that he IS the kid!
I always pictured Matthew Wilder as a light-skinned black guy in his mid-to-late 20s from his voice for some reason....
haha!
He kinda does sound like that tho lol
hed be a good reggae singer
Haha I love that
Lol.. he's the white Lionel Richie
Whenever I mention this song, people think I mean "Kids in America" by Kim Wilde.
Today ,Search this song too much Time, I love this Song
What the fuck these beats are POPPIN!!!

The follow up single to "Break My Stride".
This one is a lot better.
Yeah, this is generic 80's for sure. Not really good.
Really, I think "break my stride" is much much better! But that's me...

Matthew welcome to the modern music world of Vevo. When do we get a Break My Stride Vevo video from you? ps you had some of the best hair in the 80s.
There was never a music video for “Break My Stride.” Wilder has said by the time he pitched one to his record label, the executives laughed at him and told him that there was no point at that point to make one because the single had already become a hit.
OMG! Was that Tina Fey?
This was the very first 45 that I bought as a kid with my allowance money. 🤣👍
Funny I never noticed him on MTV back in the mid 80's
He probably wasn’t considered very telegenic for their brand.
🍾🥤👍👍😎✈🥃🥃🤪far better than the damn regaeton..👍👍🥂
KIDS Incorporated - The Kids American (1984)
Show
This song is better than "Break My Stride"! The dude is playing a Chapman Stick, and he was in another video too!

Secretaries no more. Data entry are getting rare. I have always wanted to work Office. Only did that a few times temporarily.
Break My Stride was a hit, this should've been too. I don't know about his other songs.
It was a minor hit. It doesn’t help that he and his music was overshadowed by younger, more photogenic performers.
“Cruisin’ faster than he should” - proceeds to get passed up by a crappy little car going 45mph.
1984万歳♪♪♪
I heard he became the producer for "No Doubt (with Gwen Stefani)."
