i think journalism is dead bc so many of these celebrities go on podcasts, and mass majority of podcasts on the entertainment market rn are done by, youtubers, ticktockers ya know influencers and content creators not journalists who are educated and have academic and real world experience. i think actual journalists rn are actually better the many of the popular ones in the 90’s and 2000’s, many of those journalists (even the women) were sexist, classist, fat phobic ect…. they weren’t respectful or professional. that’s trashy

Isn’t “cancelling” people holding them accountable? And it’s been very widespread. They aren’t doing interviews with people unless questions and themes are discussed prior, but it’s been like that before… Unless they have to answer for something that illegal and then they do interviews that are called interrogations.

I don’t think they’re afraid, they’re more so chasing a viral moment/doing what’s popular. Gone are the days where a celebrity HAS to do interviews with famous interviewers to get their name & work out there. A quick lil viral moment is all they need & they’re good.

It is really up to labels and studios in most of these cases. For example pretty much always when even JRE have had an actually legendary actor on, they have been promoing a new movie. The studio can just cou t that ok the lead does this and side-character actors does these couple pods and you get propably more eyes than from press-junkets. They used to be the whole day long (couple-few) where new outlets interviewer would go rotating to interview the celebs. There is not that much competing products out and a lot is marketed with just.. doing something that get's to the press and people talking.

The day the everybody people “stand on business” against their big bosses that’s when y’all should judge. No shade but facts it’s very easy to say until it’s you in contracts. After doing my own research dr. Luke is credited on songs he didn’t even produce nor was even in the studio for which with Doja cat. After finding that out it made sense because he’s contracted through labels which means you don’t really choose your producers. He has pull to where he simply gets credit even if he has nothing to do with the process.
At the end of the day these folks can’t just leave it’s their careers , they don’t have benefits like how the 9-5 folks do such as health benefits , 401k or retirement. THIS is their retirement which is why a lot of them be working till 70 when they should be put up somewhere.
Ashanti is a prime example she didn’t own her music so she had to re release her old album which flopped because it didn’t hit the same as it did in 2001. So now she has to rely on getting on stage to make money when she should be taking a break after having a baby that lady worked during her pregnancy and right after when she shouldn’t have too .

I agree with the top comment here. They're chasing viral moments and getting screentime with the most popular interviewers (which are currently podcasters. like- nobody cares about getting an interview on primetime anymore). And I've especially noticed, the retired rappers, retired athletes, b and c list celebrities trend to podcasts. Even though there have been some major celebrities on podcasts (like tom holland) most A-list actors continue to exclusively give interviews to tv hosts (jenna ortega, margot robbie, etc).
I agree that interviewers of the past used to be too harsh, too biased, and downright disrespectful to celebrities. But now, there is no journalistic integrity at all, with every armchair podcaster trying to befriend celebs instead of asking them pertinent questions about their artistry, or hold them accountable for relevant controversies.
IMO I wish we could just cancel every podcast. It's become too much. There are too many, they're all too similar, and asking the same questions. I don't care about celebrity "authenticity" so much as I care about getting genuine answers to the questions I have.
When you listen JUST to feel close to the speakers, its perpetuating this new parasocial relationship obsession people have had since big youtube personalities blew up in 2010s. Maybe even since reality tv before that in the 90's. It's just becoming too much. We all need to distance ourselves from each other a bit. We don't need to know each other THAT much.

Ok, no. What kind of responses do you think Katt would’ve had for a “journalist” in a traditional interview setting? Pretty sure he’s done those before and none of them reached the level of notoriety that his Club Shay Shay appearance did. The whole point of settings like that is to have more of a conversation rather than an interview. I’ve watched plenty of interviews over the years and a lot of them are terrible. That’s why people like Chris Brown (until more recent history) or especially Beyoncé don’t do interviews because they’re pointless for the most part and “journalists” don’t always stick to the laid out agenda of not asking certain questions that the celebrity’s team doesn’t want them to. And Katy Perry wasn’t even gonna say what she said on Call Her Daddy had she been in a regular interview so if you thought she said a whole bunch of nothing with that, she’d definitely double down and be worse in the face of a Diane Sawyer and the like.

I think it's a combination of fear, exhaustion, and opportunity.
They want to be asked softball questions and give softball answers for publicity reasons. They also don't want to outright disrespected or be harassed/insulted about the intimate parts of their lives, much like Britney was. Or in that gross interview w/ Diane Sawyer and Dolly Parton.
They're probably also really desperate to be themselves and feel like they have a chance to have a normal conversation that's not overly dictated by handlers and producers, which would never happen in legacy media.
And lastly, people only really care about the mainstream news when something big happens, like the R. Kelly interview. The consumer base at large is more interested in short form, candid, informal content that feels authentic. And fans are more than happy to see their faves in a more human light.

In some cases yes, celebrities don't want to be ridiculed or lied on by journalists. TBH the media from the 00s and back were brutal and with some of the crap they pulled I wouldn't want to do an interview with those publications either. Especially if I had a choice not to. But mostly, celebrities want to showcase a certain narrative and will go on secondary media outlets like podcasts where they can dodge any controversies or questions they don't want to talk about.

There is little difference between an celebrity interview and a police interrogation. Those old-school interviewers either wanna talk about your court cases, use your own personal traumas to try to make you cry or just use racism, sexism etc to be antagonistic.
I CRINGE when I watch old interviews from the 90s and 80s. Barbara Walters or Oprah was digging, prodding and probing to get you to get out of character. The traditional interview style is downright predatory, and you know it, Clarissa C.
At the end of the day, there are a zillion police interrogation interviews on RUclips. If I want to watch someone get psychologically exploited for information I can just watch that.

Who knows if it’s out of fear or other things but one perspective is that the industry as a whole feels very “corporate America” in the sense that they play games and are essentially the gate keepers of how your media is portrayed . Because of their sadistic boundary stepping industry environment I think maybe a lot of celebrities would much rather be interviewed on a podcast with an influencer or maybe lesser known celeb or create their own to bypass the toxic gate keepers and mind games. (I’ve worked in corporate America for over a decade and it can be very sick and twisted)
They choose what kind and how much exposure you’ll get. Upset them and they’ll try to portray you as a bad person and try to push you out.
I think a lot of celebrities are connecting more with influencers because most of them are not trying to play that toxic gate keeper power tripping role.
I also think a lot of these people are aware of the entertainment industry’s bs and are genuinely happy and interested and grateful to interview a celeb and more open and receptive to respecting their boundaries and creating a safe space for them because their woke and privy to the bs celebs encounter while working in the sick industry.
Ofcourse not everyone’s intentions will be positive but for the encounters that are positive I’m sure the celebs are grateful for the opportunity to branch off like that and will remember those interviews / podcast groups that treated them kindly and will probably work with them again as a thank you. lol at least we can hope that’s mostly how it would go.

Paris Hilton has not worked with Dr. Luke recently, she worked directly with Kim Petras (who is stuck with Luke, and Kesha doesn’t seem to have a problem with her.) You are making it sound a little insidious, Kesha was venting to her friend over something they both heard & thought to be true. It wasn’t supposed to be shown in court. Katy Perry is being dragged for working with Dr. Luke because she purposefully didn’t work with him on Witness, she continues to use this “girl boss” fake feminist image while *choosing* to work with him. Katy is not stuck in a contract with him or anything which is rumored to be the case for artists like Doja Cat or Kim Petras, she chose to work directly with him.

In the end it’s Katy’s album she noted that he was only one of many things people that worked on the album, during witness she didn’t work with him bc dr luke and Kesha where still fighting in court and now that he was proven innocent,
Katy as of now is one of the most authentic artists, with a dark upbringing, working hard for what she has, literally her whole point of the album is to spread love and share light.
As of now my guesses is to focus on performances and sell out tour dates, like she did with PLAY, she already has the hits and created something refreshing for her fans,

Shannon can not interview (amoungst others, but he tops it)... let alone, interview women, the amount of times i blinked to even comprehend where he was at with his responses, i damn near gave myself a seizure. Does any celebrity podcaster ever really have a genuine interest in journalism? Since that's where everyone seems to flocks to, I'd only hope the interviewer does actual research, but celebrities have been souring the scene of good interviews by not even doing in-depth research. Many need to just take basic notes on different types of interviews from the questioning rooms to job interviews cause I'm not understanding anymore. But i feel like the root of the issue for me is definitely the shift in what journalism is or the lack of it.
It's definitely an art to it... just lining questions up and trying to get through every single one is not a good interview. You can part 2, 3, 4 shit and build upon the appearance genuinely to help following interviews. Like, I knowwww Shannon can not have a successful follow up interview if it isn't stemming around some type of hype.... not off of his hard hitting questions or getting down to the nitty gritty.
