I’m in! April is my birthday month, my retirement month, and my organization month starting right now!
I’m so excited to do this with everyone…let’s go!!!!
Me too! And that's a biggy for me because I'm very anti-participate.
Thanks for this video. My husband passed away in August after many months of illness. He was a "collector" and it has been a challenge going through his items. I was good at handling getting rid of clothing but all the other stuff is challenging. I made the mistake of getting too much out at one time and now have thing all over the house. This is a reminder to approach it 1 drawer or 1 shelf at a time.
Doing it this way will give me a little successes. At 70 years old I still sometimes feel that I should be able to do what I did at 30.
I'm so excited! I need this! I lost my husband in October and I've been purging & rearranging & been going through every nook & cranny, but in doing so I've made messes!
I have a room that is full of "get to it" & "get it wherever it goes". ..
My big brother just spent 10 days here from out of town repairing everything he could find to fix and teaching me how to run the lawn tractor, fix leaky faucets, start the pressure washer, get rid of mice, and he put in a new basement floor in wood paneling (carpet free!) Now I paint! Lol
This challenge is going to be so helpful!! Thank you and best to all doing it!!
Just when I was thinking “I’ll just do this tomorrow” I finished watching your video and now I’m off to clean my drawer!! I’m so excited for this challenge!!
Ooh, I decluttered my (absolutely atrocious) junk drawer the other day following Diane in Denmark's challenge, feeling so smug now with my organised and clean drawers haha! Jk, thanks for the motivation, I'll follow along with you as well the whole month, there is always more stuff to declutter and organise. You ladies literally changed my life for the better, can't say thank you enough!
My junk drawer is a junk cupboard that was my grandmothers glory box. My great-grandfather built it himself for her 15th birthday in 1935. It has been on my list to declutter for years so now it is, I am repurposing it to store our sentimental items. It makes me super happy to look at it now.
I have been following you since you started an your enthusiasm keeps me motivated. I have been the biggest slob but I am getting better. A few minutes a day on a space it's getting better. I'm 74 and still learning an organizing. Thank you.
I am so excited to do this Declutter challenge with you this year. I found you on RUclips last year during your challenge and I decluttered over a 1000 items. I have been following you since then. You have made such a difference in my life. I am just a Kentucky girl making progress and wow you have helped me make a difference.
Thanks Steph, sure could use the encouragement. Looking forward to tomorrow's video.🎶🎉😎😎🎷😃🎈
"An empty drawer. I had no idea. Amazing!" 🤣 Steph, I love the simplicity of your decluttering and also the short and to-the-point videos. Everyone can do these because of that! THANKS! 💖
I loved this bright reminder that we all let stuff accumulate. A few minutes can make such a difference. Thanks!
I appreciate how calm and collected you are and how bite sized you make this.
I’ve been feeling the need to spend a few minutes a day decluttering versus just the typical tidying. Thanks for the joyful motivation! Also glad your junk drawers are unconventional like mine.
My junk drawer has somehow turned into 3 junk drawers… so I’m glad to see you had more than one too 😀
Ikr she said junk drawer, I’m thinking which one?
This challenge has started at a perfect time, as I have a bunch of office supplies I can declutter and gift to a teacher to use at their schools... sometimes when you regroup your "junk drawers", you start to realize how much is too much of your favourite items you collect in various areas over time, ie post-it notes, pens that don't work, etc.
It amazes me how much you can get cleaned out of the junk drawer in just 5-15 minutes. Thanks for the encouragement to tackle this area!
Love this! I literally have a "Monica Closet" to declutter. My drawers are organized, but my guest room closet is another story. 😅
I’m over here about to Google what a Monica closet is…. Then it hit me… “FREINDS” lol
My "junk drawer" was two drawers in my kitchen with kitchen utensils. I've been wanting to clear it out for six months! I'm happy to report that I culled duplicates and now I can find the things I need with just a glance! Thanks so much!
I've started flylady about 1 and a half months ago. And its been ups and downs but the downs are easy to combat with this system. Its okay to miss a day. which is nice. I finally decluttered every room except for one drawer in my bedroom and have begun zonecleaning. Such a breath of fresh air after being a not so secret slob all my life! Your video on the system was my first introduction to flylady, and the rest is history :)
I'm SO excited. We have a place local to us and it's called: "Hickory Lane Plants." They have added such peace to our home with some new little plant babies! The owner is a sweetheart and she worked tirelessly to start her plant business a few years ago
Oh my gosh! This is exactly what I need. I moved a little over a year ago and one of my bedrooms is not set up yet; it's the catch-all for everything that doesn't have a home!
I'm excited to do this challenge with you!
It’s like you read my mind, my husband and I were talking about needing to clean our junk drawers, yes more than one, just yesterday. Thanks for the motivation. You are the reason I started the fly system to begin with.
It wasn't my junk drawer, but I decluttered a basket of socks. You know, the socks that have no partner or get tossed to match another day...yeah! A whole basket. Threw the unmatched socks out that I have been hanging onto in case I found their mate. Garbage!! Felt gooooood! Goal for April is to keep up with simple decluttering tasks. Thanks Steph!
My 16 month old decided to start climbing out of his crib today. Bye bye crib, and hurray for an unexpected bedroom deep clean!
Can’t wait to tackle my “junk” “drawers” today! I’ve recently done some rearranging of furniture because we got different furniture to replace the furniture that wasn’t working for us. So there are 4 drawers that are just making me want to pull my hair out because they are so junky right now. So excited for this series!
Thank you Steph. My motivation at the moment is really awful. When I see a new video from you my heart is jumping.
Greets from Germany
My junk drawer has everything in it! Birthday candles, pens, tools, everything a mom needs at a moment's notice!
I love the fact that you want to support your viewer’s local eco and small business. Great job on the hot spot!
I’m finally going to do it! Decluttering has always been a dream and I just didn’t know where to start. Thank you for this challenge.
I love your energy, you’re a wonderful motivator, and I need motivated!
Thank you so much for this challenge! You have such of breaking big jobs down to manageable task. I have been in a 5 year depression over losing my sister. She would always help me at home when I got overwhelmed with my house. Thankfully she left me with a lot of life lessons to help me. She always loved my house. I want to make her proud of me by getting organized and clean. And I know it will help me feel better in more ways than one. I know she isn't here but will be cheering me on! Thanks again for everything you do for your Fb and RUclips community's!
I agree, the junk drawer clean out is probably the most satisfying. Plus, it's usually a small space so it's a great place to start and get some momentum.
This is the perfect time for me, mentally, to start a full house clean out. Looking forward to working through it together with everyone. Off to clean out the junk drawer!
I’m looking forward to doing this every day. I’m definitely in need of a reset. I love all your videos Steph.
Spring cleaning + direction. Just what I need.
My whole house is looking like a storage closet. Thank you for your gentle reminder that just a little time can make a big difference.
Yahoo! This is exactly the kind of motivation that I needed to kickstart a spring declutter! 💖
Thanks for this much needed challenge. The timing is perfect! 💜
I watched your video this morning and immediately went to declutter my junk drawer. It didn’t need much straightening out, but I took everything out, cleaned the organizer out and re-arranged things and put a few pens in my car and tossed a few things out and really just did a quick tidy. Boy, that made a huge difference… I didn’t think it would, but I feel good about it.
Thanks for the first day of inspiration!!! Onward!!
Oh dear Stef, thank you for the spring declutter. My 2 junk drawers are done. And or took maybe 15 minutes. My almost 7 years old is also decluttering with me. She found 7 books to donate.
I can 't wait till tomorrow - the next little peace for a clean(er) and organized house! Greetings from the Netherlands
I'm really looking forward to this challenge; I want my home to be easier to manage. Thank you so much for the motivation, and I love your idea to keep the giveaway local!
Alright… starting now. Here I go! Excited.
Edit: DONE! My junk drawer has been the bane of my existence. I konmari'd my house in 2015 and have managed to keep it up -- all except the junk drawer. It's been located in a corner cupboard with a carousel shelves. It's permanently jammed with crap so that the shelves can't turn. I decluttered by half, moved my remaining items to a smaller pull-out drawer, moved items that will be functional into that corner space (kitchen appliances)... which has created a domino effect in the other kitchen drawers of re-arranging and emptying. All my kitchen drawers are way more functional. Woohoo!!
My night side table drawer has become my junk drawer. I will feel so much better once this is done.
I’m so grateful for the extra motivation to get decluttered.
Me too 👍🏻
The hard part for me is identifying my “junk drawer” area. I think I have more than one space, and they aren’t in drawers 😂
I’m excited for this. Taking 5-15 mins each day is a great idea. Normally I try to do a room or area at once. Then I get overwhelmed & stop. The kicker is that I still have crap left all over & looks like I haven’t made any progress. Now I have to force myself to work it out. It never ends well. Thanks for doing this.
I like your idea to de clutter one area a day. That way decluttering the house isn’t overwhelming. I have spent the month of March decluttering and cleaning my storage area and it is so liberating having so much space to move around in there.
After watching I realized how many areas have become “junk drawers” in my house! Guess I’ve had a little clutter blindness going on. Thanks for reminding me!
I too have multiple junk drawers... usually one in each room...lol!
I love a good decluttering challenge. Also love that you’re giving away gift cards to local places I think that so awesome to support our local businesses, thank you!
Your motivation is inspiring. Not only did I clean a junk drawer, I cleaned all my kitchen drawers
I just want to encourage everyone here that it is worth it. I'm retired and was slowly poking through my spaces, not accomplishing that much. When my brother died unexpectedly in December, I got cracking. After having to clean out my parents' home and then his condo (both full of clutter) I decided I was NOT going to do this to my kids. I have decluttered all winter and it has been so freeing. I still have a few places to get through but I just looked over my two kitchen "junk" drawers and they are still fine. (I ditched old pens & markers and 3 one-gallon ziploc bags worth of owner's manuals!) Just do a little and the momentum will build, I promise!
I love to go through our whole house once a year as well! It’s easier to do when someone is challenging me to get it done.
Excited for the next month! Off to the junk drawer I go!
I know this works by starting out with the junk drawer. I cleaned and organized my two junk drawers about 6 months ago and they are still clean and I know where everything is. Now if I can just accomplish this with the rest of my house, I will be all set. Bring on the challenge!
This will be a great challenge. I have been decluttering my sewing room. Every day if nothing else I throw something away, put something in the donate box and recycle something. Some days my room looks worse instead of better but I am making slow progress. I have donated a whole bunch of books to our library. They actually get excited when they see me haha.
This will be fun working along side you
I moved 6 months ago and my junk drawer was totally cleaned out when I unpacked. Amazing how much had come into it in just 6 months. Got rid of some stuff and moved a few things to my craft room where I would be more likely to look for it. I’m excited about this challenge!!
My junk drawer is usually pretty organized, but the counter above it is a definite Hotspot. It feels so good to get it cleaned up!
I have to laugh... I am tempted to ask what to do if ALL of my drawers are junk drawers! Sometimes it sure feels that way! Good for you for tackling a whole house declutter - must be a lot of work after moving so recently. Also, I really like that you ask the giveaway winners to support a local business. That is very thoughtful, and I am sure those local businesses will be glad for the business.
Honestly, I would love a $99 set from the FLYLADY! This would be the perfect gift for your subscribers!
I like the idea of just doing a small area a day. I'm fairly minimal but it never hurts to look around.
I donated all of my random pens and went and bought me a pack of my favorite pens and pencils. I'm actually keeping up with them now that I have a limited number. Time to check my junk drawer
Thank you Steph for initiating this challenge. A ray of sunshine with your enthusiasm and encouragement. Amazing how we can how the junk drawers need a regular reset. Thanks again. Yes we can do this and see what surprises away.
I cleaned out our junk drawers back in January and they are still clean!!!! Sometimes I open then just to admire them, LOL!!!!
I was mission a special key chain for over two years. I've had it for over 30 years. Last night I was cleaning the inside of the car and found it in between the seats! YAY!
Books are some of the hardest things for me to declutter. My mama would take us on the bus into Nashville to the library to check out books. Great memories tied to books. I still get a lot of joy from reading. And I still check out physical books from the library as well as ebooks.
I am so excited over this declutter and been looking forward to it. You are such a blessing to so many people in this giveaway that you are doing. So I want to thank you on behalf of doing this. I will be doing this declutter right along with y’all and just wanted to say a huge thank you for this blessing. You are so motivating and appreciated!!!! 💜💜💜💜💜
I did my junk drawer not too long ago, so I really did not think I had anything to do. But when I opened this drawer I realized a number of items had somehow made their way in there. This was so strange since I live alone. :) I removed a bunch of crap and even stuff I thought I needed to keep the last time around. My goal is to eventually not need a junk drawer because EVERYTHING should have a home.
Done! Last year I relocated my junk drawer to a tiny (aprox 8x10) drawer. I use my old junk drawer for spices....it was a huge improvement on space! A smaller space definitely keeps it contained and no room for extras! Although it still collects stuff it shouldn't, it doesn't take long to reset it. I also cleaned the small extension of my junk drawer ( magnetic pencil holder on the side of my fridge). I keep the sharpies, scissors in it, things I don't want my 3yr old to get :) although it also manages to collect random stuff.
My junk drawer is clean and organized. I feel so much more at peace! 😂 It’s amazing how such a small space can make such a big difference.
Love the decluttering change. I have always been taught that there is no such thing as a junk drawer but I always end up with one and it definitely needs decluttering😀😀😀
That’s so awesome of you supporting someone’s hometown from your home. You’re awesome!! And the clutter cleaning is pretty amazing too.
Thank you for hosting a Spring Cleaning Challenge. I always like going through small sections at a time. Definitely makes things more manageable.
We don’t have a junk drawer (yes, for real). Several years ago, I got sick of having such a thing and got rid of it. In order to keep from having one again, I cleaned the drawer and filled it with our favorite chocolates. It’s still a chocolate drawer and is everyone’s favorite drawer in the house. If it starts to get low on anything, that’s the thing I’ll get notified about. (If only that worked for stuff in the pantries. Lol) So, today, I made sure the chocolate drawer was neat.
I was NOT excited when you said "junk drawer" but I went ahead and did it anyway. I decided that "it counts" as decluttering to find out where I can recycle CFL bulbs and batteries. I found out online very quickly and I can drop them both off at the same place. I even called ahead to make sure (again, I think the phone call "counts" as decluttering time) and I'll get them out of my house tomorrow morning! Now my junk drawer is practically empty! Very exciting and motivating!
I've been binge watching flylady and clean mama videos and love your approach to cleaning. I'd got to the point when it's all be overwhelming but putting a mixture of all these videos into play is really helping me get things in order. That said this months challenge is really what I needed to get me to really sort out the clutter we have all over the place. I managed to sort out 4 kitchen drawers today thanks to you and got rid of a lot of jars and lids that I'd been hoarding for that "I will use them some day soon" scenario. So thank you and can't wait to see what we have next to tackle x
Baby nail clippers are so worth keeping! I’ve had my kid’s for over 30 years. I use them to trim my kitties claws 😄
I did this last April , and it took me a while, but I finished it in about 3 months . I took it slow, making it easier to get it done without it being overwhelming. It felt great not only to get it done, but to have a clean out orderly home. tfs 🥰💐🌷🌞🌛🐣🐤🐰💗✝🇺🇲
Company coming in one week!! I get distracted so easily! I love the thought that I'm not alone in this mmessiness!
I did it! I had a lot of excuses not to: it’s late, I’m tired, my junk drawer isn’t too bad…. Thanks for the motivation, I was able to declutter several items including expired dog medicine (2018) that I can’t imagine I would ever use.
I am at work and can't wait to get home to work on my kitchen...we just moved 2 weeks ago and stuff is everywhere and not everything is inside yet. Our contractor remodeled for a year and half. I love your videos! You are very easy to watch. My husband and I own our business and we are always at work together and home together. I love him but it's hard to clean around him. We don't get home until about 7:30 at night and leave by 9am in morning. I am quite overwhelmed right now with everything....it's like where do I start I am all over the place. I live in US in state of Kentucky. The weather is 80 one day and the next it's 40...can't wait until it's warmer but not too hot...
I'm excited! I dumped out my entire junk drawer and got rid of way too many mystery cords. I put stuff back in little bins and labeled them to make it easier for my whole family to put stuff back. I also found allllll the scissors! Haha!
I don’t have a junk drawer, I have a junk room. YIKES!
I'm transitioning into a new job and new routine. It feels great knowing it is okay to take baby steps.
I don't know if I'm ahead or behind, but we don't have a junk drawer. Our kitchen hardly has any drawers, so everything I saw you had mostly lives in our offices or with our extra stationary. Looking forward to this series!
I keep my ‘junk’ drawer under control for the most part because I declutter it as part of my monthly zone cleaning. I love the idea of a deep weekend declutter and will be printing out your cheat sheet to follow along. Love your videos and always look forward to them.
Day 1 of the Spring Declutter Challenge brought me some successes!! I managed 1 huge drawer and 3 cubbies... so wonderfully refreshing to see them so nice and neat and cleaned out! Thank you Steph ... for the inspiration!
I don’t have a junk drawer anymore. When we redone the kitchen. We went from 4 regular size drawers to 2 big drawers. 1 is for silverware & cooking utensils the other is for dish rags and towels. So I decluttered my laundry room junk tray. lol!!
just decluttered my junk drawers including my hoard of pens. I actually tested each pen and only 16 pens actually worked. it's funny every time I'd grab a pen, I'd go through a couple before finding one that worked and instead of throwing it away.. you guessed it, I'd throw it back in the container.
Side note: I really like your sandals and the pop of yellow!
You’re videos always give me the motivation I need to get off the couch and get to decluttering. Let’s do this!
I have multiple junk drawers ☺️
I just moved into a bigger house and I was so excited about the possibilities of expanded storage areas but it turns out I'm even more motivated to declutter because I am so hesitant to clutter up my blank canvas. This challenge came at a perfect time for us!
I have found some interesting things while decluttering, but I've never found an empty drawer! Bonus! (I guess sometimes space is more valuable than 'stuff')
I have a built in kitchen desk. 4 drawers and the top done. I have to do more on the weekend due to working full time. I liked your recent comment on how working moms struggle with actually implementing the whole fly lady system. I just cannot. Some days I barely get anything done. I have implemented a few morning and bedtime things that I always do. So that is a success.
Thanks to this challenge I found a specific charger that I’ve been searching for for ages! I was so sure I’d lost it for good! Thank you!
I am ready for the Spring Declutter Challenge! Thank you Steph for leading this challenge. I am focusing on my desk and office area - it really needs decluttering and tidying. I picked one desk drawer today to empty and clean out, then re-stock with necessary items only. Onward and forward I go!
My favourite part of decluttering the junk draw is that I always find something that was ‘lost’. Off to see what I can find or declutter this time.
I love the little divided pen caddy! We don't have a "junk drawer" but we do have an office cabinet and a flat spot that doubles as a junk drawer...annnndddd, they are done!
I actually don't have any junk drawers. The real trick is to just never call a space a junk drawer because then people in the house tend to put junk there! Since there is nowhere in our house designated for junk, everyone has to think for a second about where the bits and bobs of life should go, and not just toss it in a drawer to be lost forever. An extra second thinking about where to put something away saves minutes or even hours trying to find it again later. Your future self will thank you! Such a fun way to declutter, I think I may "borrow" some of my kids' smiley face stickers for my bingo board. :)
Steph
Thank you so much for this challenge. As recently as last Saturday a friend was decluttering at work and handed some things to me. I was trying to be polite so of course I respectfully accepted the gifts, only to have them end up in the junk drawer. As of this morning they have been re-homed. Perhaps next time I will save myself this step by respectfully declining the offer. 😉
I excited that junk draw is first. Being 80 and getting booster vaccine today, yeah doable challenge.❤️
Ready set go! I have a habit of taking a junk drawer, dumping it into a box to sort later??! Right. I have had those boxes stuffed into the abyss never having been sorted out. I know of 3 of them. Weekend project on the list. Thank you for doing this!!!
We also moved last year and then had a baby just a few months later. This is so timely! I feel settled enough and like life has calmed down enough that I'm ready to have the house organized and decluttered again!
We just moved and got rid of soooo much stuff. We moved into a house 65% bigger than our previous house & we were already what many people would call minimalists and yet I still cannot get over how much stuff we own that just isn't really that necessary and still haven't found places for it all. Thankfully, our junk drawer is pretty clean. I pulled a business card out of it but my husband asked me to put it back because he was thinking about contacting the company soon. LOL
