Tiny Home with Too Much Stuff | Organize with me!

  • After one month of living with 5 people in a camper, it's pretty clear - some of this stuff has to go!! I decided that if something isn't being used at least every 3 days, then there is no space for it in here where storage is everything. Today i am sorting through all of our stuff, pulling tons of it out and getting organized!

Our family of 5 lived in our caravan (Aussie name for trailer) for 6 months between houses. Like you we paired our clothing right down. What was funny was that even once we got into our next home I remember still choosing mostly the same clothes to wear that we had in the caravan!! I realised then how few clothes we actually need to have!🥰 Blessings from South Australia💕🐨

Has anyone suggested rotating the kids clothing? Keep them organized in the house and every week, 2 weeks, how ever long when you take the cloth inside to wash you grab "new" cloth from inside and when the wash is done but the "old" cloth away in the house. That way all the cute things get worn this summer but there not all in the camper.

Great idea actually. I use a similar concept for capsule wardrobes, by having multiple 'capsules', it is easier to keep less stuff that goes together, and still have enough for a few weeks. (limited laundry access in my building) This could easily be adapted to kids clothes though, it could even be kept in the laundry room after washing, for easy access later.

It's so crazy how much we DON'T need! I wonder how minimal you'll stay when you move into the house! We all have so many extra things so we can procrastinate and not go without, like all the clothes and dishes we can have dirty while still comfortably having more!
My dog was a shoe monster, a simple Rubbermaid container worked great to keep him out and the shoes protected, the one I have has a fairly large lip on the lid so it can sit out and be poured on and not get wet inside!

We were living away from home in a smaller apartment across the country for over a year. That time helped me start decluttering in the big apartment where we have everything, because I noyiced what I was missing and what I was not missing. Living in the trailer can have a similar function.

When my kids were little and growing like weeds - so all through elementary school, I limited their clothes to a couple pairs of jeans or shorts in summer, a few t shirts and a couple sweat shirts, give or take. They each had a 'nice' outfit or two, and got a couple new things at Christmas. If you're not buying tons of clothes you can buy a few nicer things (or just save the money because kids don't care as much as we do about these things). Assuming you have a washing machine, you don't need enough to clothe an orphanage, just get through a week. They won't get enough enough wear out of a huge closet, anyway, because our seasons are short and you have to keep modifying. When they came home from school, they had play clothes to change into (we lived on an acreage, so rips and stains). It worked great.

  • @lindaroyal8161
    @lindaroyal8161 Год назад +4

I agree, you don't need that much stuff while you're "camping". Noticed in the kids cubbies, they're pretty tall, could fit another shelf in each one, maybe a narrow one. Looks like the cubbies would hold the cloth storage bins or not so tall plastic bins, use as drawers, easier to pull out and keep organized.
Cupboards in the kitchen are also pretty tall, wasted space, could fit another shelf in those areas also.
Plastic storage bins keep items contained and easier to retrieve, just like in the house.
You never need as much stuff when camping, that's part of roughing it and making memories.

I tell you there is nothing like living in a small space to teach us how very little we really need. Idea for your cupboards. I used 3M hooks and got some white wire shelving and cut to the size of the cupboard. Put two hooks on each side about 2 inches from front and back. You can turn the shelves upside down so the lip is turned up to keep items inside. Double even triples closet space. Love your videos!

It was when we came home after travelling and living in our caravan for three months, that I looked at our house and was aghast at all the stuff we had that we didn’t need but had to take care of. That started me decluttering and becoming a minimalist. I love handing things on. I’m still on the journey and decluttered some books today. Last year, we travelled across Australia to see our family and state borders looked down, making it difficult to get back to Western Australia. We had an extra two months travelling north instead of south and we did miss our 12 volt fan and some summer clothes as we ended up in the tropics. We made do and I still travel very lightly in our van.

Wow-I can't believe all the stuff you have in that little RV. I recommend maintaining the "the camping outdoors" mind set and leave all the beauty items and extra stuff inside! I see someone had the same recommendation of keeping just a week of clothes or so in the RV; wear them; wash them inside and rotate them for the next 1-2 weeks! Light packing!

My older daughters are struggling because we are nearing the end of the summer and they still want to buy cute summer fashions. I can't blame them because they are at an age when wearing those clothes is so much fun. I remind them that there are only 7 days in the week, and they typically wear the same things over and over, so It's not practical to have more than a few outfits. That definitely prevents our laundry from piling up. I wish we had a camper! It looks like so much fun! Can't wait to see your home renovations. Thanks for the new video.

So nice to see an update, very exiting with the kitchen being finished soon! :) I am a huge fan of not having too much stuff. It is much easier to keep things clean and tidy when you don't have tons of clutter around. I have started my own decluttering project this week, and it is obnoxious how much stuff you can fit in one closet (and never really use). I know your camper situation is just temporary, but it really is freeing to have just the things you need/value - things just go so much smoother. Looking forward to more updates. :)

One benefit to smaller space living is you can get the messes under control so much faster than in a big space! Like to do one of these projects in my moms house it can take a whole week (as I am currently cleaning out her pantry closet that is a walk in and larger than. My own. Clothing closet.....and she has stuffed every bit of kitchen stuff from both of my grandmother's kitchen's and one of my sisters who moved into this closet along with her own stuff.) I'm talking floor to ceiling of a massive basically pantry ROOM sized closet. It's a nightmare and has filled an entire hallway probably the size of a camper in the clean out process. I am seriously only at the deep cleaning and painting the empty space step today....half my pickup truck bed is full of donations and I've filled at least3 massive trash bags. I'm miserably procrastinating so seeing you cover so much so fast is totally. Motivating me lol best wishes and one day....you will look back on "the summer you lived in the camper" as one of the best summers of your life! Congratulations on your new remodeling and best wishes to you and your family XoXoX onelove.

For some reason, your channel hasn't been coming up, so this is the first time I've seen you in a while. I can't believe how big your children are now!! Your little boy is just scrumptious!! Good luck with the reno! Xxx

You realize how little we really need after living in a camper. We had to do this after a hurricane messed up our house. We stayed in a camper for about 7 months.

He is so adorable, Hi 👋 😄. As I'm watching your video, I realize you're correct about clothes. I have a closet full of clothes that I don't wear and the ones that I do are always in the laundry. Time for me to downsize. ❤

Love your decluttering and Fly Lady videos Steph and your house reno looks amazing! Have you considered how much easier everything might be if you had a lot less stuff though?

It's amazing how much stuff you can cram into a camper isn't it? My daughter keeps her shoes inside the cubby behind the bunk ladder. My husband and I keep our shoes in a little cubby that is below the bed in our camper. We also saved a ton of space just by using only washable dishes instead of paper plates and plastic silverware which is more environmentally and budget friendly anyway.

I actually fold my bags and if they don't fit in my little box which is about 3" square, they don't stay. I love the donuts. I'll have to teach my daughter because I know she won't be a folder when she has her own place.

I was curious to know how sleeping is going? We are a large family ages (6kids) 2-14 and I’m nervous about our first October rv trip and getting everyone to sleep decently and without waking others up… any advice? Also thank you so much for sharing!!! 💜

It'll be interesting to see what you do when you move back into your home. We'll see, will you go back to having more or decide you love the extreme minimal lifestyle? Obviously, some things will come in, like the baking pan you'd probably use more in cooler months and things you use only once or twice a month. I spent 6 weeks living in a motel and it's surprising how little one actually needs from day to day.

Theres this idea that if you can live in a vacation rental with the stuff you bring, thats all you really need.
