I am Greek. My one year old goes from crying to dancing with this video so i could care less if the pronunciation is not 100%.. KEEP THIS VIDEO UP FOR MY SANITY
jo tho I am a 63 years old lady, and also tonight, I went from cryint to dance with this video; because I am a self-taught person trying to learn some Greek, and even the pronunciation is not the correct, I am going to remember the characters of the alphabet... I really like the beat of this sound!
Marina Garcia Solorzano I am half Greek and trust me even though the beat it good, I would not recommend this for people to use as a substitute for the actual pronunciation. It is 100% off
+Marina Garcia Solorzano I am glad you enjoy, I really made it for fun a long time ago. It is meant to be catchy and entertaining. If you are entertained, I am happy :)
This video's pronunciation of the letters are the ancient ones, and not said the way they are pronounced now, in modern times. This video helped me a lot, so thank you.
When you're pledging to a fraternity and you have some sort of membership candidacy period, they will tell you to recite the Greek alphabet at any given time during said period. It's traditional to end with 'sir' after reciting the alphabet (or pledge), to acknowledge their status as someone higher or more experienced in the realm of the fraternity that you're pledging to. Hope this clears up all the sir questions.
Dude, that's a hell of a materpiece you made here. Please do not delete it, even if it's wrong. Should be saved as a part of mankind's cultural heritage.
What it is really supposed to sound like is (I'm not hating) Alpha (Al-Fuh) Veeta (Vee-tuh) Gamma (Gam-muh) Thelta (Thell-tuh) Epsilon (Ep-see-lun) DON'T GET IT CONFUSED WITH EEPSILON Zeeta (Zee-tuh) Eeta (Ee-tuh) Theeta (Thee-tuh) Yota (Yo-tuh) Kappa (Kap-uh) Lambda (Lam-thuh) Mee (Mee) Nee (Nee) Ksee (K-see) Omicron (Oh-mee-crun) Pi (Pee) Rho (Row) MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A TONGUE ROLL ON RHO Sigma (Sig-muh) Tauf (Toff) Eepsilon (Eep-see-lun) Phee (Fee) He (Hee) Psee (P-see) DON'T GET IT CONFUSED WITH KSEE Omega (Oh-meg-uh) Tell me if this helped you pronounce the letters or not in the comments I'll make a Greek version too :D
This is the pronunciation for the American Greek system. I think that's the point of this video, not for people who actually want to learn the Greek language 🙈😂 Most people who rush sororities and fraternities in the US have to know this.
all the Greek people in comments are like ''oh they're all wrong, delete it'' and blah blah blah but i'm here like '' omg THAT IS SO CUTE, PEOPLE ARE INTERSTED IN LEARNING MY LANGUAGE ^^''
I love this video. Most of the pronunciations are like the ones professors use. It's too bad the small letters weren't included--we need to know those too.
I learned the Greek alphabet thorugh song as well when I was in 7th grade. It came in handy when pledging my fraternity in college! I was ahead of the game!
When I watched your video, it got stuck in my head and now I am about the only one in my neighborhood and of all my friends who can say the greek alphbet, thanks a million! ;-)
We have to learn the Greek Alphabet in my class and she said the first one who learns the Greek Alphabet in 5 days gets like 20 extra points!!!! so this is awesome lol
Correct pronunciation: Α - alpha Β - bita * Γ - gama* Δ - delta * Ε - epsilon Ζ - zita Η - ita Θ - thita Ι - yota Κ - kappa Λ - lamda (special) * Μ - mi Ν - ni Ξ - ksi Ο - omikron Π - pee (xD) Ρ - ro Σ - sigma * Τ - taf Υ - ipsylon Φ - fi Χ - hi (pronounced like hee not HI) Ψ - psi Ω - omega * (*So wherever you see "b" , "g" or "d" there is a special pronunciation for these that cant be decribed by english letters but its the closest one :D) *Flies away*
Kri Pat Now I don't trust the Internet to give accurate information on the Greek alphabet! Can you explain what each letter sounds like in a word as well as the dipthongs (Or however you spell it :P), please! I'm trying to learn greek, but sometimes it can be so hard! ;-;
My Social Studies t3echer showed this to us in class when we were learning that alphabet....I think that you did awesome because with out this I wouldn't have it down and remembered.....so, thank you.
Thanks dude, I had to learn this and it helps me very good a 9! On my gymnasium (Netherlands) you have to lissen this song for a test and for Small Tests (SO's)
This is dope! I'm just learning Greek for the heck of it (shrugs) 😅 And all you ppl trippin on pronunciation chill... 1hr into my research, and I knew it was off... I can fix that later. lol... chill...
No problem. As you can see, one is able to extract precise pronunciations of Greek words through the Latin. There is no doubt, however, that Classical Greek and Modern Greek are polar opposites in relation to pronunciation.
Yup, exactly. It included all the important stuff we should know about our sorority, like it's history, policies, symbols. Stuff like that. It wasn't a big deal, but it's a way to make sure we actually know our sorority and what it stands for and where it came from. :)
All the Greek people have to understand that the pronunciations of these letters as demonstrated in this song are the classic pronunciations of Koine Greek, which was the vernacular of the Roman Empire throughout the Hellenistic period. The pronunciations are therefore correct for those learning Greek in an academic setting where the literature is most commonly from the Hellenistic era.
i am here because i wanted to tell you that i just realized that the beginning an annotation said that this is for entertainment purposes only. but back before i watched this on my own house computer my 6th grade social studies teacher let me and my classmates watch this in her classroom. so that means i watched your video while i was in boring school, not in home entertainment. not my fault, though. lol.
The video serves to help people memorize the Alphabet. The video-maker apologized for the mispronunciation. Mispronunciation of language/ alphabets is very common anyways. I was born in the South-East of the U.S. and I pronounce some words quite differently than people elsewhere. I know how to spell, so what is the issue? And, where is your video, Sir? I would watch a correct pronunciation video if it was this catchy ....
Hi, for some letters like i is pronounced yiota and not i-yiota. But as a Greek, I got to say nice words cause the total approach was good and I think his intentions even better. Have fun all of you :)
Strabo, the Greek historian, geographer and philosopher mentioned that the Phoenicians came from the eastern part of the Arabia peninsula where they have similar gods,
I thought this was a really helpful tool for learning the Greek alphabet... I am currently trying to learn the capitals of the USA, so I was wondering if you could come up with a little song like this for the states? Thanks so much for a great song! ;)
My daughter is starting to sing this song! Came here looking for a song resource to help her learn it. I'm not even worried about mispronunciations - she's smart enough to figure them out later :P
Excellent video my friend, I am Greek that was raised in Greece, the problem with some Greeks here is that they don't know that the pronunciation is a little bit off due to the English language. I don't know not even one Greek word(and we have thousands of them) in the English Alphabet that is pronounced properly. English speakers just changed them so that the words can flow better when combined with their words, which is totally understandable. So I cant blame the Greeks for just trying to be "helpful" :)
Thanks for the lead. I really have been through this before, so... I think I'll trod the same old ground as I did at Michigan. I tend to call these digraphs.
you told to forget the alphabet that your language borrowed so that today you are able to tell greeks to forget about the alphabet that your language borrowed... you realise the paradox in your sentence???
It is the Greek pronunciation. Ancient Greek, that is. Modern Greek pronounces words and letters differently. "Upsilon", "Beta", "Gamma", "Mu" and so forth are the Classical Greek pronunciations. "Ipsilon," "Vita", "Yamma" and "Mi" are Modern variants.
Chi is pronounced "Chee", where the Ch represents the rough-sounding ch that is best known in the scots words "Loch" or "Stramach", as opposed to the Ch sound as in "Chocolate" or the Ck sound as in "Lick" Psi is pronounced "Psee" - the P hasn't been silenced and it still pronounced at the start before the S Omega is pronounced "Awmeegah" The ones that I haven't mentioned were spelt correctly :P
That's a very good point. When we cite the Roman alphabet, no one goes back to Roman pronunciation. They give a modern pronunciation, and even that differs by country. The British say there's differently than the Americans. Not to mention the Italians who are different than the Latin I was taught.
We're talking about Greek, not Latin. The mi-pi sound is what makes for latin-english "b" I once sat in an office with two Classics professors at U. Michigan who had this discussion (both Greek natives) and it went nowhere. They then moved on to argue whether Heidegger deliberately mistranslated Parmenides by eliminating punctuation in order to create compounds. They couldn't agree on anything. I trusted the person who saw continuity much more than the other.
2 years ago I literally sat in my room for an hour learning this, and feeling proud about myself, only to find out now that the pronunciation is not even right haha! Oh c'mon lol.
You do realize that a large number of the people who watch this are doing it for pledging purposes, right. They don't have to know the exact pronunciation of ever letter usually, it's more of memorizing order and spelling with their respective letters.
Best Song in the world BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!' !!!!!!!!
So we are clear, this is Ancient greek. Some Roman scholar fucked up the pronunciation with latin elements and the Modern Greek language ( which is softer on the ear) was created. They read the same, but sound entirely different. Note, I am NOT an expert XD
People on here learning for class and I'm learning for Greek Life. Life of a pledge

I am Greek. My one year old goes from crying to dancing with this video so i could care less if the pronunciation is not 100%.. KEEP THIS VIDEO UP FOR MY SANITY
Haha, it is my pleasure! My little sister loves it as well, however I have come to dislike it myself.. I do plan to keep it up though. Thank you.

i like how they end with sir just so we remember
I love how greek alphabet letters makes math look so complicated, since its used in all kinds of physics variables.
This video's pronunciation of the letters are the ancient ones, and not said the way they are pronounced now, in modern times. This video helped me a lot, so thank you.
Wow... this song is actually really helping me to remember the Greek alphabet. Thanks for this video.

This is actually very helpful for those trying to learn the correct pronunciation. Thank you for posting :)
This is the pronunciation for the American Greek system. I think that's the point of this video, not for people who actually want to learn the Greek language 🙈😂 Most people who rush sororities and fraternities in the US have to know this.

Anyone read Percy Jackson and Heroes of olympus?
PJO? Yes, HoO? No, I'm waiting till next year
Yes!
I own the Blood of Olympus, not trying to rub it in
I almost own all the books. But I dont want the movies
My fav. one is also battle of labyrinth, in Percy Jackson, Heroes of Olympus is Mark of Athena, only for the Percabeth.
I love this video. Most of the pronunciations are like the ones professors use. It's too bad the small letters weren't included--we need to know those too.
I'm laughing too hard at this
When I joined my fraternity this and are creed was a nightmare to remember
I'm greek...and I can say that's hilarious!

No problem. As you can see, one is able to extract precise pronunciations of Greek words through the Latin. There is no doubt, however, that Classical Greek and Modern Greek are polar opposites in relation to pronunciation.
Who cares if the pronunciations are wrong. It is just a plain cool song! I'm studying Greek slowly so this helps a lot.
Yup, exactly. It included all the important stuff we should know about our sorority, like it's history, policies, symbols. Stuff like that. It wasn't a big deal, but it's a way to make sure we actually know our sorority and what it stands for and where it came from. :)

I think I'm going to have to make my own alphabet video. Two million hits and the pronunciation isn't even right? Gadzeeks!
The video serves to help people memorize the Alphabet. The video-maker apologized for the mispronunciation. Mispronunciation of language/ alphabets is very common anyways. Is the beat of the song from Technologic by Daft Punk?
you told to forget the alphabet that your language borrowed so that today you are able to tell greeks to forget about the alphabet that your language borrowed... you realise the paradox in your sentence???
This is one of the coolest songs ever!

This is helping me so much right now! Thanks!
These may not be the pronounciations taught in actual Greek, but I'll give this video credit nonetheless
Thanks. I thought so, but wasn't entirely sure.
I MEMORIZED THE WHOLE GREEK ALPHABET BY LISTENING TO THIS SONG!
!!! I'LL SHOW IT OFF NEXT TIME I GO TO TO GREECE
Chi is pronounced "Chee", where the Ch represents the rough-sounding ch that is best known in the scots words "Loch" or "Stramach", as opposed to the Ch sound as in "Chocolate" or the Ck sound as in "Lick"
Psi is pronounced "Psee" - the P hasn't been silenced and it still pronounced at the start before the S
Omega is pronounced "Awmeegah"
The ones that I haven't mentioned were spelt correctly :P
This is the best parody and the only parody of m 2nd favorite song
Alot were mispronounced- I speak greek and I find this song very funny to listen to but it annoys my mum haha
That is so true like the p it is not pie they are not true they need to pronounce it correctly
Amelia Mejia can you post a vid on how to do it then
Xaxaxxaxa same with my dad.
Thanks for the warning. I want to learn Greek, but I don't want to learn the wrong way to speak it.
Gotta love I week #Pledgelife
That's a very good point. When we cite the Roman alphabet, no one goes back to Roman pronunciation. They give a modern pronunciation, and even that differs by country. The British say there's differently than the Americans. Not to mention the Italians who are different than the Latin I was taught.
This song helped learn my Greek letters for my pledge test. RINGTONE! hahaha
Catchy and helped me learn overnight. I wrote out the spellings so I could follow along and it worked
Loved listening to this as a pledge! Kappa Sigma forever, baby!
We're talking about Greek, not Latin. The mi-pi sound is what makes for latin-english "b"
I once sat in an office with two Classics professors at U. Michigan who had this discussion (both Greek natives) and it went nowhere. They then moved on to argue whether Heidegger deliberately mistranslated Parmenides by eliminating punctuation in order to create compounds. They couldn't agree on anything. We have to listen to this daily in social studies so we can learn the Greek alphabet. One day we actually had to march around the room to this -_-
best song that I could find good job
Best Song in the world BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'
!!!!!!!!
I taught my nephew this song. He was bobbing his head the whole time! :)
what does the "sir" mean
So we are clear, this is Ancient greek. Some Roman scholar fucked up the pronunciation with latin elements and the Modern Greek language ( which is softer on the ear) was created. They read the same, but sound entirely different.
Note, I am NOT an expert XD
Is the singer, Nicki Minaj?
Servum24 hahahah
Wow no way you must be the first person to make the connection that it is to the beat of Technologic. :\
