    You were 32 when you "discovered" this way of eating. I was 62! I had never heard of this way of eating either. That a sad commentary on how good the diet industry is on promoting their way of eating that doesn't work. I've lost 14 pounds so far, since mid April. It came about with less exercise and not a less amount of food. Its slow but to me the food is delicious and this way of eating is sustainable

    Your assessment is spot on re: "vegan" processed foods. I've been vegan for over a year and couldn't understand why I was still packing on the weight. I concluded, like yourself, that I was eating nearly all processed foods and this was the culprit. Your videos outlining your experience helped to solidify that conclusion and to acknowledge the reality of poor eating, albeit vegan. Thanks for the reinforcement afforded by your excellent videos. You are doing a great service to all who wish to improve their health simply. Yea, Dr. McDougall also. Just ordered his book. Thanks, Tia!!
    PS - your glowing complexion and beautiful hair speak volumes toward your good health

    Being from New Orleans myself, and still living in the area, oh how I know how delicious our food is.... how tempting it all is. I have been 95% on board with the plant based way of eating for the past year, my weight has plateaued though because I do so good, eating all I should...BUT THEN, I will have a bowl of cereal...a slice or 2 of my kids pizza, cheese puffs, etc. I can't seem to do it 100%, but have these few little things too occasionally - wish I could nip those remaining 5% things out of my life....
    Thank you for sharing your journey and recipes!

      First of all, that’s amazing you are mostly plant based on New Orleans girl! 🙌🏻🙌🏻 Second, don’t beat yourself up, you’ll get there. Take it one day at a time. I too used to have trouble with the kids food, but that stopped when I was filling my meals with fiber. Maybe add more broccoli to your meals? Do you eat broccoli? That veggie has an amazing way of stopping cravings or temptations!

    Great video! Thanks for sharing your journey, your channel has helped me so much! Could you do one on how you got your family to switch over? I am finding it very challenging for my family. 😊 I have been doing it for 15 months and lost 60lbs and remedied many serious health issues for myself but my husband and kids (18 and 20 yrs) don’t seem interested. I used to try very hard to make recipes they would like but always got lots of negativity and resistance. I finally gave up and told them they could cook for themselves. I know I should just set a good example and not force anyone but it’s so hard to watch them knowing their health could be better as there are already some serious health issues for my husband and son.

    • @HealthyVeganMama
      @HealthyVeganMama  4 года назад +2

      Way to go! 60lbs and getting your health in order is amazing. As far as your family, you know them better than me. All I did for my family was tell them they could eat how they want, but in the house, I’m only cooking plant based meals. Eventually my husband made the decision on his own to switch over because he was feeling great. He occasionally will eat animal products, but’s it’s rare now.
      I think just not pressuring is probably the way to go with older kids who are pretty much adults, but again, you know them better than anyone. Just follow your gut. Best of luck to you.

    I’m very inspired by your story. Grew up eating junk but until I was 11 or so I was tall and skinny. Now, after 11 I started packing on weight. Went on diets at a very young age but I would just gain it all back. By the time I graduated from high school I was over 300 pounds. I reached my heaviest at 360 and my health started to go down hill. I was diagnosed with a Kidney Disease, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, Acid Reflux. I developed IBS and lost a lot of weight from that. I then started the Keto diet and lost down to 165. This was over a period of 7 years or so up and down with my weight. Keto though killed my gallbladder and my cholesterol was very high. The past few months I have switched to a vegan diet for my health but I’ve gained at least 30 pounds. I’m scared to weigh myself. I want to do WFPB to help me not only feel better but get back to 165. I’m 5’11 and that is just a good weight for me. I’m loving all your videos! I really appreciate you sharing your story. I feel like I can really do this if I can cut out the junk food.

    • @HealthyVeganMama
      @HealthyVeganMama  3 года назад +2

      I’m so happy you feel inspired and I know you can take control of you health finally! Yes a wfpb diet is the way to live super healthy and any unwanted or unhealthy weight will come off, you just have to be patient and consistent. Now that’s a big blanket statement, there are some little adjustments here and there that may be needed, but all in all eating this way will help you tremendously, I’m sure if it. Wishing you the all the luck!

    Started the Starch Solution for Maximum Weight Loss to lose weight but then you learn about the negative health effects of the standard american diet and it has changed from weight loss to wanting to be healthy! Bonus that it is better for the animals and planet as well. I've been doing this 5ish weeks and I'm down 10 pounds. It is a slower weight loss than using a "fad" diet but we all know those do not work long term - hence the weight you gain back and then some! Question: I find that after I eat this way for a few days (high carb, low fat starch solution 50/50 plate) 2 things happen. I start to lose my appetite and I would rather not eat than eat all the starch and veg OR I feel full but not satisfied and find myself reaching for something fatty that will fulfill that need. Did this happen to you? Anyone have any insight on this?

    • @HealthyVeganMama
      @HealthyVeganMama  4 года назад +1

      When I started I didn’t do the 50/50 plate. I just ate higher starch and veggies when I could get them in and lower fat. I felt great. At time I found I was a little unsatisfied because I was hardly eating any fat, so I raised that amount a little and it was perfect.

    Interesting that I happened to come across your channel today :D I've been "mostly vegan" for about two years, not really lost any weight and I was diagnosed with gall stones last winter. I've only had a few very mild gall stone attacks over the last year, but suddenly several in the last two weeks. Last week I finally descided that I really need to cut out the chocolate and chips and other unhealthy stuff from my diet if I want to keep all my inner organs and stay/get healthy. Now I actually crave real food and not chocolate! I need to lose about 35 kg (70 lbs I think?), so let's hope that starts melting away :) ✨

    I can't agree more with the gallbladder attacks. I have been having them on and off for years and I finally went back on a vegan diet again and that is when I notice I feel my best. I am trying my best to have my foods available and choices available so I do not resort to my old ways of eating.
    Also, do you use a little oils and avocados from time to time now?

    • @HealthyVeganMama
      @HealthyVeganMama  3 года назад +1

      So happy you are trying to control the attacks with food.
      No oil whatsoever. It is not healthy and bad for heart health no matter what you hear out there. Yes I eat avocados from time to time, but I won’t eat an entire one because it’s like 30g of fat in just one. Most of the time I’ll eat 1/3 or 1/2 of one.

      Make some oil free chips. I buy some from Whole Foods that are almost zero fat, oil free and super low on calories. I cut them in triangles, pop them in the over and dip them in a little of my cheese sauce and...amazing!

    Great video! It resonated so much I thought I was the one saying everything you said! :) . I am just wondering how you handled "coming off the affects" of a Standard American Diet (SAD) ie: the addiction to caffeine, sweets, highly salted foods, dairy etc. Did you implement something (non-food related) to interrupt the pattern of eating the foods that were making you so unhealthy and unhappy?...

    • @HealthyVeganMama
      @HealthyVeganMama  4 года назад +1

      I did fine. Going from the SAD where I was always restricting to this, felt like a treat. From the start I was always satisfied and full so haven’t had many problem. The hardest part was the mental part. But I overcame that with the help from Ryan Adams with Natural Weight Loss Mastery. He has a RUclips channel that is great.

    Eating this way is definitely food freedom! I love it so far. Hoping my husband will join me at some point. Just wanted to let you know that gallstones are a risk factor for gallbladder cancer. My MIL died of that a few years ago. It's one of the deadliest forms of cancers out there and no treatment that is successful. She was a very healthy woman who was diagnosed in August and died in early December of the same year. She had gall stones for several years and went against her doctor's advice to have it out. Not worth the risk in my opinion.

      Eating more calories than your body burns will make you gain weight...period. Not one particular macronutrient. I’ve lost 50 lbs so fiat eating lots of carbs...Lots. The benefit to a Whole Foods plant based diet is not only amazing health, but most plant foods are naturally lower in calories so you can eat more and fill your stomach and not have to worry about “dieting.” I would recommend reading “How Not to Diet” and “The Starch Solution.”

    I am from Germany, can anyone explain to me what grits as food are? Thx!! 💕

    • @HealthyVeganMama
      @HealthyVeganMama  3 года назад +1

      Grits are made from dent corn, which has a softer and starchier kernel than other corn varieties. The mature kernels are processed to remove the outer hull, dried, and then ground into smaller bits.

      Hello to Germany! Grits are a common southern food similar to an American cereal product called cream of wheat or cream of rice only southerners may eat grits at every meal as a starch like you would use potatoes or rice.

      Fluctuations are normal. It happens. If you’re 5 lbs away from your goal weight it’s going to be a little harder to lose weight than normal. Ryan Adams with Natural Weight Loss Mastery is a weight loss coach and has a great ebook on “the last 10lbs.” It’s fantastic! I have a link to his channel in the description if you want to check him out.
