Mae gwreiddiau Dafydd yn ddwfn yn naear Maldwyn ar ochr ei fam, ac yr oedd tyddyn Esgair Llyn, a anfarwolwyd ganddo, ar dir fferm y teulu yn Aberhosan. Bu'n canu droeon ar lwyfan y Pafiliwn ac mae’n un o ffrindiau triw'r Eisteddfod Genedlaethol a’r Noson Lawen.
Dyma Dafydd Iwan yn perfformio ‘Yma o hyd’ gyda gweddill artistiaid y noson i gloi Noson Lawen Eisteddfod Maldwyn a'r cyffiniau.
All artists join Dafydd Iwan in a rousing finale of ‘Yma o hyd’ at the Eisteddfod Maldwyn Noson Lawen.
Got diagnosed with cancer last year and when I am one year free in July I will get Yma o Hyd tattooed on my right arm. God bless Wales.
Wow! I have no words to express praise for this!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤
I'm Finnish so it's unlikely I'll ever learn Welsh, but I love this song and the language. I first heard it at Parc Y Scarlets last year, they played it many times because the Scarlets scored 9 tries v Ospreys, and people sitting behind me were singing this every time. I had to google it as soon as I got to the hotel, and have listened to it a 1000 times... Diolch Dafyff Iwan!!
I hear you had a similar struggle in Finland to reclaim your language, and Finlandia has been translated into Welsh as a second national anthem. We are always so thankful for solidarity.
Marianne
@@rogerdavies8586 we'd no doubt be speaking Russian without the independence in 1917 and the battles of WWII
Might interest you to know that Tolkien was so enamoured with Welsh and Finnish, that a mix of the two was the inspiration for Elvish, in Lord Of The Rings
I'm a Llanelli lad (Yma o hyd!), and lived in Finland for over 20 years. Opin puhumaan suomea aika sujuvasti! I love that language, too. But Welsh is dearest to my heart.
My children live in Finland, and they listen to this song on a regular basis to keep up the hwyl in their blood.
@@Connor_JR Almost correct. Tolkien used Finnish as the basis for Quenya (High Elvish) and Welsh for Sindarin (Middle-Earth Elvish). These were his two favourite languages, with Welsh being numero uno.
I'm a Yorkshire man living in south Wales and I get goosebumps listening to this and the welsh anthem, a very proud nation. They punch way above there weight when it comes to their religion, rugby. We have a peak in Yorkshire called Pen Y Ghent and I believe the northern Welsh kings had there territory all the way into Yorkshire. It isn't surprising given the welsh are the original brits.
As a Russian, this is a beautiful language, the spirit and power captured by the man singing is incredible.
Never let this language die.
Well, that's pretty much what the song is about. The chorus translates to many repeating of the statement, "Despite everyone and everything, we're still here!"
Великолепная песня. Великолепный язык. Долгой жизни всем кельтам.
Yeah, fighting for their soverignty and language.
@Welshwazza Not really, if you knew anything you'd actually know the Ukrainians are refusing Independence to the people of Luhansk who no longer wish to be part.of Ukraine, if yiu think about it Putin is the liberator really
Whenever I hear this song, it makes me SO SO proud to be Welsh, and it’s really funny how Welsh people are ALL literally all proud I don’t know a single person who doesn’t shout these words at the top of their lungs whenever they hear it whether their in a car, in some kind of meeting, or of course in a stadium!
Thank you Dafydd Iwan, Wales wouldn’t be the same without you. ❤️🏴
This song makes me feel that I’m in Wales again. I am so proud to be Welsh.❤
Bore da, from Auckland, New Zealand. This was awesome and had me shedding a few tears. Cheers from a Cwmdare Boy. Cymru am byth. My wish, as I'm 78 now, is to see the valleys and the Brecon Beacons once more before I die. If only!
I Hope You Get Your Wish. X
Very nice. I am 2nd generation Welsh American and love hearing it spoken and sung.

Greetings from Sweden. Having lived
in Sweden and of Welsh origin I am delighted to experience this wonderful moment at the National Eisteddfod of Wales. It was the first time I ever listened to Dafydd and it was enthralling, the strength, rhythm,
Melody and lyrics returned me to the schooldays I experienced in Wales.
Of Course Wales ad its people love, share and welcome all to share their World and Language.
“They are still there!”
This is one of the most powerful songs I’ve ever heard
Listening to it gives my chills every time
Its better in my view than ‘Mae Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau’
Equal .

Nothing can beat passion it drives the Spirit. Wales has it in abundance.
My favourite Welsh language song! As a monolingual English speaker I can't get enough of it! The chorus, translated, into English, "In spite of everyone and everthing, we are still here" could be the rallying cry of alll the Celtic nations and any people who have suffered mistreatment because of the language or cultural identity!
What an Anthem!
Yma o Hyd! 🇵🇱🕊️🏴
Kiwi here with Welsh friends in NZ and I'm in love with this song and the language
Fe godwn ni eto...
Cymru Rydd!
We visited an exhibition called Celtica in Macclyneth ìn 1997, and they played this song as you left. I had many many caravan holidays in Llangym in the 70s & 80s & love the place. About 6 years ago I got diagnosed with an illness that will finish me if I don't take a pile of meds every day. I'm English but I loves Wales, and I love this song which has stirred me for 25 years. And to my illness - I'm still here too.
Keep Strong and at tough times listen to this and think of all of us wishing you well.
Celtica's long gone though, and its arguable that our origins are Iberian rather than from Alpine Celts
Pleased to find that you have good memories of Wales, and truly hope that your health will return and that you will be well enough to
enjoy future visits to Wales, but most of all that you will manage to cope and to feel comfortable and safe.
Do you mean machynlleth?

The mountain just to the north of my home town Pitlochry Highland Perthshire is called Ben y Vrackie, therefore, we can see the Welsh/Gael mixture in that name.

Well, I am a native New Yorker - and quite love this. Have just subscribed. More is better!
Full body goosebumps every single time. 🏴🏴🏴 long live cymru. Proud to be welsh and proud of our rich, magical, history. Wales is often underestimated but we are still here, we will never back down, we are a strong, proud nation that will always protect our country and it's heritage.
This is the first Welsh-language song I ever learned the lyrics to...and I was just a beginner to the langauge at the time.
My first was Calon Lân.
Incredibly strong song. Lived in Wales for 7 years and loved it. Gives me goosebumps
Im English, my gg grandma was from North Wales. Im wondering if she spoke this beautiful language. Im so glad it was never fully stamped out by the English authorities and is reigning supreme.
Very probably, the language is stronger North - in fact, some can't speak much English. I would suggest that she did.
This song is absolutely brilliant. I love so much this recording, which captures the true spirit of unity, dedication and pride of the audience and the musicians who play in orchestra and sing the legendary "Yma o Hyd". So powerful, full of life and dignity!
You have chosen a difficult topic! I'm surprised you are doing something so advanced. I am Welsh first language, live in Wales, if I can help get in touch. Where in Russia do you live? I am PhD, my wife is Russian.
I live 20km from Dafydd Iwan, ia, wir, Cymru am byth!!

Aye, That’s my Country!
Since i was in Wales in 1999 the song follow me. And since them is it my slogan .
This song should be taught in all Welsh schools in Welsh. I know it is sung already at Welsh football matches, but can you imagine it being sung by 90,000 at a rugby international in Cardiff? Would be utterly fantastic.
They should have sung it to the queen for her birthday as a right good send up before going for independence.
Wales v Austria in the 2022 Qualy match is good enough for me!
It is taught in the welsh medium schools,my grandchildren know it
Goosebumps.......
The Welsh can bloody well sing, no argument there
This was the song that inspired me to dysgu gymraeg. Thank you, Dafydd ❤

Wales, land of song !
During the Football World Cup in Qatar, friends and colleagues of mine in Dubai, were very impressed by the passion and pride of us Welsh and this song was popular even though they did not understand the words.
Just found words to this song. It definitely gives you goosebumps that's from an englishman
I am an Englishman but no longer proud to be English. I would have loved to have been born Welsh and in the valley of song.
Do your DNA you may be of welsh stock.
What happens to make you no longer proud of your country .

I would love to hear this as our anthem, a monoglot English speaking Welsh person, as much as Hen wlad is great - this really sums up us as as country, we're still here - I'm rubbish at cymraeg but everyone can sing this... it's 6.34 and i played it thrice!

What a song ,,, brilliant
Love the young girl second row,at the end. rocking to the song great stuff
Wonderful authentic performance with great feeling. Absolutely outstanding.
Diolch
I'm 31...can honestly say that a song has never made me cry...until today
my understanding is basic at best, been shocked to find the lengths undertaken to destroy our past, undermine or steal every tradition, makes me feel a true lust for battle, to defend our pathetically portrayed nation. Mari Lwyd they claim that it's Mary and her bloody donkey......my name means from Briton...they claim it's French. I have been desperately digging after realizing the strong connection to everything happening now....the final stages of a very long plan....bloody Roman Catholic Germans....church might have changed hands but the game is still the same.
This Gentleman should be declared cultural heritage from Welsh

After listening to this Man Belt out his soul several times on multiple occasions singing this Song, two questions pose themselves:
One: This Man is Wales's most Cherished National Treasure, *Right?*
Two: Why isn't This Wales's National Anthem?
It’s a lovely song, but it’s a nationalist song, not everyone is a nationalist in Cymru. Plus, mae hen wlad fy nhadau is one of the best songs ever written, without a doubt. It’s be hard to replace that as a national anthem now.
Mae’r gân yma yn meddwl llawer, llawer mwy na just pêl droed. Mae’n sefyll yn hollol am ein Hanes ni dros holl Prydain, ac yn testament am faint mor gryf dy ni’n teimlo am ein uniolaeth gwledyddol. 🏴
this is the true welsh national anthem
No Mae Hen Gwlad Fyn Hadau is the anthem and glorious it is too. This is Wales's Land of Hope and Glory and Down Right Bloody Miindedness too!
