That Friday the 13th box set is absolutely amazing, but I remember all of the issues it had at first. We all had to get replacement discs for parts 3, 9, and 10. I still have my original (flawed) copies of the discs as well as the replacement discs.

I BEEN saying this every since the fiasco over the Halloween 4K deluxe sets with the vinyls. I got screwed out of my sets simply because I kept retweeting other frustrated customers and kept demanding answers, especially when retail was selling them and we still didn’t get ours shipped well over a week later. Then them using RUclips and VHS rips for TV scenes that the studio should’ve had on hand for the Chucky movies. Now this delay for the newer Chucky movies with no announcement I was aware of. They most definitely have and it’s really sad. Especially when you got companies like Arrow, Vinegar Syndrome, and Blue Underground wiping the floor with Scream’s products. I’m glad other people are seeing it too however I wished it was much earlier where a course could’ve been corrected.

Synapse is putting out Trick Or Treat so unless SF does a NOES box set, then the F13 set was their apex. I mean it's nice that they're re-releasing their older titles on 4k for those who missed out on those titles. It would be nice if they could get licensing for Miramax and Dimension films. I think a lot of those are still stuck on dvd.
Feast trilogy (afaik, only the first got a blu-ray release), Black Sheep (no US blu), Dee Snider's Strangeland (not Dimension but stuck on dvd), the Hellraiser films which outside of Arrow UK have not got much love, etc.

I’m one of the few who felt the FRIDAY THE 13th deluxe set was a little lackluster (especially in comparison to the 2014 Halloween box set). The commentaries and interviews are less than thrilling because they’re recorded during Covid and usually are zoom related. Also- the interview segments are annoyingly broken up into multiples. Why not create one big doc rather than spreading out so many interviews with the same person. It just fell a little flat to me.

Vinegar Syndrome is my favorite label by far, and Scream Factory has moved down to probably about dead last. I'm tired of some stuff getting slips and some not and sometimes the price is the same, them releasing surprise titles with no slips for like $40 for a bluray, adding $60 for pins to their big sets, getting scratched discs very often, etc. I made a decision about a couple months back to quit buying their stuff on release and get them only on sale.

I'm somewhat new to physical media collecting. I dabbled with it back when DVDs got released. But got fed up with it and sold all of them. I kind of skipped the Blu-ray take off only buying a few titles but not many. However once I saw Halloween 1-5 on 4k I became extremely interested. I didn't even know much about Scream Factory. I just bought them, and ever since then I've been pretty excited about collecting movies again. Mostly Horror titles. And I generally always go for the 4k rather than the Blu-rays. Because of that almost no Scream Factory title that is being put out is a rebuy from me.
I say almost no Scream Factory title is a rebuy...except for Black Christmas. After you suggested it in a video I bought the Blu-ray of it, and loved the title. So I'm going to double dip for the 4k...soonish. I've generally have had zero issues with any of the Scream Factory movies I've bought, no issues with their competitors either tbh. To me it's all a fresh experience. But I do understand that I'd be bummed if I bought an older release, only to find out that they are updating it, and my money feels like it's wasted to some degree. Especially with like you said all those fancy new slip covers are behind an even bigger pay wall. But for me...as a first time buyer and these being my singular copy I'm more excited than disappointed.

I continue to be a big advocate for Scream Factory since they launched in 2012. They've been able to license some of the most popular mainstream and cult horror/sci-fi titles from the 70's to the present. Their Halloween Deluxe Collection was a minor miracle that I never thought was possible. Their Friday the 13th Complete Collection was amazing despite a few issues, which were quickly addressed with replacement discs. And the Friday set came at a time when Paramount pretty much abandoned the notion of giving catalog releases a physical media release.
I have no issue with them re-issuing their best selling titles on 4K. I'll happily double dip and support them to own my favorite films on the best format possible. And when possible, they always make the effort to include the OG audio tracks, which a lot of major studios couldn't be bothered with. Their pricing structure that some have an issue with may be due to the fact that it costs a lot more to license a title for a 4K release vs a standard blu-ray. And for "A" list titles, I'm sure it's very expensive. In a time when the physical media market is shrinking, they're going to look to offset that increased fee which will also help them to acquire some lesser known titles for 4K or standard blu-ray release while expanding their catalog and also turning a profit.
At least there's options. No one is forced to pony up for the sets that offer all the extra bells and whistles. You can still order just the 4K blu-ray through various online retailers. And if someone has the finances they can opt to order one of the Deluxe Editions directly from Shout. Some other boutique labels may be able to offer a few extras, but they also aren't forking over the amount of money to license the number of "A" list catalog titles.
A few issues I wish Shout would address and correct asap are the number of scratched discs, cases with off-gassing and continuing to use eco-cases which causes the inner sleeve/artwork to he susceptible to dents, dings and holes. All of which are attributed to the Mexico replication plant.
Other than that, I look forward to seeing what they have to offer for the rest of the year and hope they increase their 4K output in 2024!

This is my take on Scream/Shout Factory. I’ve been a collector of there’s since 2012. I bought the H3 blu-ray the day it was announced and put up for order. I have since then bought many of there releases and have been an avid fan of there’s supporting every release even if I didn’t buy them all. You stand corrected when things started to take a turn and that’s the Friday the 13th box set. One of my favorite box sets ever released and I was as stoked as everyone else but the damn issues were troubling. Now mind you after that whole debacle they got their act together but it still left me with a fear this is gonna start becoming a major issue and it has. 2022 was the worst year for me with them. Every release I received in the mail was scratched and botched. I got replacements but even some of the replacements came scratched due to the way they shipped the disc. I was so mad and fed up because I’ve bought from them since day 1 and supported all throughout. Army of Darkness 4K was the last straw because that was my most anticipated 4K release and even with no new features I wanted it and it came botched. Since that release I refuse to buy from them again. With what they are asking for price wise it ain’t worth the headache. Their business aspect is boring even with rereleases. The having to buy a package deal to get the new art work sucks. It’s just boring sadly. Vinegar Syndrome and Severin are my favorite companies at the moment. Amazing releases, hardly no issues and if there was it’ll get fixed instantly with no hassle, amazing art work, loaded features and side stuff added. I cannot praise them enough. They are both crushing Scream/Shout. Even Arrow and Criterion. They sadly started the boutique labels of Blu-ray out strong but are now at the way bottom for me. No longer kings but wasted away making bad decisions in QC and quickly trying to make a buck with the rehashes. It gets old really fast

I've been thinking a lot of the same since around a year ago, certainly I thought the decision to package the next 3 Halloween movies on 4K together was a purely business move (and it was convenient to blame it on Miramax). I'll always dislike whenever they also do a 4K re-release and they didn't even do the transfer themselves, and once again blame it on licensing forcing their hand.
Then when it comes to the double dipping for 4Ks with no option to buy just the alternate slip artwork, well that's ridiculous. I'd love the new Creepshow 4K art, but you have to pay a premium price ($44.99 instead of $34.99) for it.

They should do with the artwork and give you the option of which slip cover you would like to have. They should do the same with the posters. I love the newly commissioned art work for the chucky movies But it bothers me that to get it you have to spend at least a hundred and fifty dollars. Good video, man! Personally, I do think that Scream Factory seams to be focusing more on re-releasing older titles on 4k or steelbook and, even though that's cool, I do think that they should release something that has never been released onto disc. One of the best things about SF was when they released movies or editions that have never been put onto bluray. So, I think if they got back into doing that, they could get back to where they were before. Also, it seams they struggle with bigger sets, like the Halloween and F13 sets with them having so many issues. And I agree with you about the slipcovers. I think it would be cool if you could chose what slipcover you want on the release instead of having to get both. I love Scream Factory, I think they are one of the best releasing companies in the world. But I do think that they need to getting back into releasing films that have never been released or new cuts of films that have never been released.

The last thing I snapped up from Scream Factory was the Night of the Demons collection. Else than that, I think they are really losing ground by just re-releasing the films we already have on Blu on 4k without any new special features. I bought the 4k of Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers on Ebay by itself, because H20 and Resurrection had the SAME features I already had with the Blu Ray box set (I have the budget box set). I'm pretty much off of the Scream Factory train. I buy a lot more from VS and Arrow now. As far as the business models go, I accidently had Vinegar Syndrome's Blu Ray release of the Video Violence collection shipped to our old address. I called customer service, explained the issue and they had another one shipped out the next day. Now THAT"s customer service.!

I wouldn't say they peaked after the Friday set because they still released good titles after that like krampus, alone in the dark, alligator 1 & 2, event horizon, tales from the darkside & house of wax. Their is probably more that they released since than that has escaped my mind but I think they are still releasing gems. Personally I rarely buy from the other labels like the last time I got something from vinegar syndrome was only amdyville horror other than that I skipped tcm2 & from beyond because I already had the sf version. I don't really buy much arrow because most of their good stuff is region locked. I do think screams pricing & how they handle putting exclusives in bundles only now is a load of crap though. I hate that if I want the Chuck sequels or the dead silence Commissioned slip cover art I now have to buy them in a expensive bundlre like they been doing for a little over a year now. I shouldn't have to do that because most of the original titles already came with the commission & original art. Their is definitely some 90's 2000's or 2010's movies they can still release like p2, deep blue sea, final destination, may, frozen, anaconda & Jacobs ladder.

For me, Shout/Scream Factory have been hit or miss. First release I bought from them was the 4 disc DVD box set of Sonic SatAM. It was a decent release (though the cover art was a bit lackluster). The next two were the Army of Darkness steelbook and the Critters 4 movie boxed set (both were released by Scream Factory in 2018). Those ones I actually preordered, which came with really cool lithographs. The selection of special features was also really nice. The most recent Shout Factory release I have is the 20th anniversary edition of Thomas and the Magic Railroad in 2020. It has a decent amount of special features (including an in-character interview with Eddie Glen as Thomas), but the video quality was more or less the same as the DVD release from Columbia TriStar Home Video back in 2000. It also didn’t help that many people in the fandom may have overhyped the Blu-Ray leading up to its release.

I feel like they're getting greedy with they're slipcovers when you just spend an extra $5 more with vinegar syndrome. I think they've gotten too comfortable with their High status because they're not even putting out reversible artwork on 4ks now and most releases have zero special features except for maybe an Atmos track! And they're charging $30 when other people are charging 25. To me they're not really catering to their fan base. They're the reason I got into having a slip cover because I could have the alternate. but now vinegar syndrome actually makes it worth getting the slipcover because they're usually very cool and high quality even though I don't require it.
