I think may chooses torchic because the grass starter is always the first one in the dex (so treeko) and given it places bulbasaur as a placeholder in the pc when you have no pokemon (as number 1 in the dex) it stands to reason it just scans the code and the pokedex till it finds the first possible option, so your default is treeko and your rival's default is the counter (so fire and torchic) Also I love the idea of just getting a ball and catching something without your starter. 4:08 seeing this makes me wonder if there's another way to pull off ACE since the truck and the 2 houses are connected plus the odd interactions that come from them because i think the game is getting confused on gender because of where the parents are being placed but the random kid inside confuses me a bit as why is he tied to this event aswell? this may need some further research
There are 2 trucks because a Player can choose either a boy or a girl which has different houses, It is also the reason why both moms are in both houses
What happens if you skip the intro somehow so you don't have a username, or input an invalid input for the intro? What sprite will you have? What happens if you trick the game into thinking there's a different amount of starters?
I assume it will default to Brendan and choose the first preset name since Brendan's house is the one that gets prioritized when it has to choose between the two.
May May (man I'm from Spain and this is weird) be upstairs in the blue house? If you enter first the lab, ¿will Birch be there, and after that, being attacked in the grass? Will you skip the clock set? And, if you try to make a NPC exchange or use the daycare, ¿what will be shown on screen? Can you receive the Wynaut egg in Lavaridge town without Pokémon, and send it to battle? And how the contests work? Do they work?
I have an idea to avoid the professor, you could maybe walk through walls but before you enter the route with the professor, you would need to walk through the trees, 8,5 tiles to be exactly. The character needs to walk through 4 trees and a half of the next tree, and then walk straight down till you see the pop up of Littleroot Town, and then walking left to exit the trees to be in Littleroot Town. I know how it works in RPG Maker XP, to avoid the black screen you must put 8 tiles (4 trees) in a map, so the player can't see the black screen.
I remember years ago I found a way to clone Pokemon using the walk through walls cheat and one of the spots inside the Pokecenter (upstairs iirc). But the cloned Pokemon only had sketch as their moves lol
I wonder what happens if you get yourself into a place where when the auto-walk routine begins where you walk with your mom into your new house, you actually leave the bounds of the map.
I don't think so, the first starter is Treecko(Grass), maybe the game default sets the variable to 1, and that might be why the rival chose Torchic(Fire)
I saw a similar video for Gen I that revealed that Blue had Charmander on his team as the default if you didn't choose a starter but still had a Pokemon. I wonder if the Fire Starter is always the one the rival has by default?
I used to play with map editors for ruby back in the day, and if im not mistaken, petalburg was the first map in the list and perhaps thats why when you escape rope out of the truck, you get teleported there, likely map 0 and the reason why you get tp'd to that house door might be because that was the first warp point placed when the map was made Also the reason you trigger the out of truck event as soon as you enter littleroot town i believe is because it's a map script, set to trigger the first time you enter the map, which happens when you exit the truck, and its impossible to enter by any other side without editing the map or glitching/cheating, somehow idk why it didn't trigger when you left the truck by the other side, i think you edited the map for that as it's nit consistente with the escape rope method, because in bith cases both trucks should also be present
1:44 If every pokeball when healing could be shown then after 65535 pokeballs it would finally heal you. That is because Pokémon ruby threats the number 0 like the max number which is 65535!
May/Brendan has Torchic because the game by default thinks you picked Treecko. If you beat the Elite Four after skipping your starter, it will act like you picked Treecko during the credits sequence.
`8:05 The RSE rival probably picks Torchic because the first regional number in the Hoenn Pokedex is Treeko. The game probably assumes that you've picked the first number if it lacks any other input, therefore choosing Torchic because it is effective against Treeko. That's my theory, at any rate.
The reason that Torchic is being picked could be because the game automatically assumes you take treecko which is the first Pokémon of the Pokédex.(Just like the shiny bulbasaur for the box, which is the first Pokémon of the national Pokédex)
7:15 Older Pokémon games use variables to set up some factors in the game, one of them is your rival's starter. Since yours was 0 it pulls data as if you picked option 1 (AKA Treecko), because of this, the rival variation is set to 1 (AKA Torchic).
Due to the Fushigidane in the box being shown it’s obvious that fire would be used by the trainer. They always use what is super effective against you.
8:15: My guess is Brendan/May have Torchic because the grass starter is the first of the trio in the Pokedex. Treeko is probably the first starter option of the 3 in memory, so it acts as a default before you pick your actual starter.
Pokemon game events are held in a single map specific script. So the truck animation happening the moment you entered littleroot town is because the game hasn’t flagged the event as complete. Meaning the truck will probably still be there as the “truck event” flag hasn’t been updated yet.
I have an idea why May/Brendan has a Torchic. For this battle she has 3 different teams consisting of one of the starters. They always have the starter that has the type advantage. Now those teams might just be saved as team #0, #1 and #2 and the devs matched up team #0 with your choice of the first pokemon in the pokedex being Treecko, #1 would be Mudkip because the second starter in Torchic and team #2 is Treecko because the third starter is Mudkip. Since you didn't pick any starter the default value for which team your rival should use is 0 so they are using Torchic
The reason for May/Brendan's starter being a Torchic might be that your default unloaded Pokémon is a Bulbasaur, which is a grass type? And btw the reason why it's a shiny Bulbasaur might be related to the fact that Bulbasaur is Pokémon #1 in the Pokédex, so it makes sense that a "default" Pokémon is a Bulbasaur
Your mom bought two houses, married May's mother, still treats Norman as her husband, gives May two rooms and you none, and still makes you ride in the back of the moving van. Girlboss behavior right there.
Yeah, nothing gonna happen. I always using cheat for fast travel like walk through wall. So you literally doesn't have pokemon or anything but if you encounter pokemon that question mark glitch gonna showed up instead of your pokemon
The thing with the houses is a simple programming issue. As the game didn't properly begin, there might be just one instance of a house, because that's all you need so far, making both houses exactly same one, with the characters spawning on their locations. Then since the house is flipped probably from the moment you cross the door, all characters are on their places but to the other side. But then, when she gives you the running shoes, I was actually expecting her to be in front of the left one, because the town area is just one and only for the entire game, so her spawning location is unaltered. This is speculation since I don't dig into Pokemon games and interviews or posts or anything, but maaaaybe the devs intended to make you spawn on a different house depending on your gender, explaining why there are two trucks and why all characters were spawning together (things that were not removed because they never tried to bug out from the truck, therefore conflicting within code lines).
keep in mind too about emulator innacuracies. if you're using mgba it should be accurate but if you're using Very Bad Amulator, the results could be different than real hardware
You can also get a cheat that lets you use the truck load zone to warp you to Flannery and there's an old lady there who gives you an egg so hatching it will give you a pokemon you can get great balls from the pokemart because you already have 3k pokedollars automatically so it's totally possible to do a run with this only problems I see are is no pokedex and for some reason you can't directly open the pokemon tab of your menu because it wasn't given to you but you can use a pc still and move around pokemon that way
Do the Pokeballs ever stop placing in the Pokémon Center cutscene? I assume the reason it does that to begin with is due to an integer underflow occurring when it tries to subtract 1 ball in your party from 0 total, but how many it underflows to depends on the number of bits they allocated for the cutscene to try to use for your party’s pokeballs. Really, they only need 3 bits to fit 6 balls, but we can see due to how many get placed that they are using FAR more than 3 bits, so my guess is that they’re using a byte, meaning 256 will place in total before it arrives to 0 again and ends the cutscene, but the GBA is a 32-bit console, meaning it’s entirely possible that they simply didn’t account for this at all and created a full 32-bit storage space for the number of balls to place in that cutscene, in which case you’d have to wait for around 4 billion balls. From my estimate, between 2 and 3 balls are added every second, so if you wait and watch it for about 2 minutes you should know whether or not it’s just 1 byte, and then can see what happens when the game tries to heal the 256 invalid Pokémon. My guess is it would crash, but hard to say.
The right house is always May's house for what I know, so you enter May's room and that. But I think what's more interesting is entering what would be Brendan's room being Brendan yourself, and inspect the Pokeball. May shouldn't be in that house, since her house should always be the right one. Who would appear in that case?
The reason both rivals default to torchic is because the default starter for you would be set to treeko, since it's first in the regional dex. It's also why when checking your party in the pc, the displayed sprite is set to Bulbasaur, since it's national dex entry is number one. I took a very rudimentary game programming class in high school, so while I might not be able to actually make and program games, I still have a pretty good understanding of how game logic tends to work.
If you encounter a pokemon in the truck and catch it, where would show the location of the pokemon that was caught? You know when you check summary of a pokemon it shows the location of where it was caught
I kind of like that they paid attention to the gen 1 glitch where you put a npc in the left tall grass and it gets you stuck in Pr Oak's lab wall. But to fix it here, they just instructed the game to ignore walls and to tp when the walk routine is achieved, no matter if you reached the right door or not
7:49 torchic was probably chosen because I’m assuming if bulbasaur is the default sprite grass is probably the default starter type (and also treecko is the first Pokémon in the hoenn dex)
ive studied a lot about pokemon rom hacking and i mess aroynd with it a lot so i understand all of whats happening here this is so entertaining. when nurse joy heals you the game try’s to draw the maximum number of pokeballs possible within the 16 bit integer limit.
I think the reason why the rival picks torchic is because the game thinks you picked a grass type pokemon (see shiny bulbasaur in the Pokemon PC) and so the rival picks torchic as the counter
My theory for the rivals having Torchic is that the game thinks you have the first Pokémon in the Pokédex as default, which would be Bulbasaur as shown in the pc, but since you didn't unlock national dex yet, Treecko is the first Pokémon, leading them to choose Torchic
My guess why its torchic: The system thinks still you have that shiny bulbasaur you showed us at the start and its registered as grasstype so it thinks that if you have a grasstype starter it will show firetype starter and its for all 3 cases
Because you can't technically have no pokémon, in gen 3 you had a shiny bulbasaur as a placeholder until you chose your starter. My theory is, though you still send out a deca mark, the game still assumes it's a bulbasaur, therefore it assumes you picked the grass starter, therefore the rival picks the fire starter. Either that, or the default starter for the rival is Torchic
No, it is probably, because Rival 1 has three rosters starting with index number: Torchic is roster 0, because that corresponds to the first starter (Treeko), but 0 is also the default value.
So when you meal with no pokemon, you actually heal 65,555 pokemon due to the integer limit of the game, and the "Shiny Bulbasaur" is actually Pallet 0 of the list and Bulbasaur is No. 0 in the list, so it's a No. 0 with pallet 0
She sent out torchic because of the error Pokemons ID being the first, idk if the regional or national dex but either way it would be a grass type, so she picks the fire starter
i wonder if you were intended originally to start in the other house if you chose to play as may but they scrapped it because it was too much effort to fix the bugs we're seeing here
if you use a walk through walls cheat, from the truck and go left, down, down, right, right, right, up, right, it gives the same effect. you start in petalburg
I remember the shiny bulbasuar In gen 3 (and i think gen 6 as well) shiny bulbasaur with no name was a placeholder for if you either, broke the game by somehow trading a pokemon like missingno, or if you manage to start the game without collecting your starter
What happens if you go to the house on the left as Brendan? Normally you would go see May for the first time in the house on the right, but if you go on the left as Brendan will the cutscene glitch and have May go out of bounds or will there be 2 Brendans?
I wonder what would happen if you were able to enter from the right side of town, such that upon entering, you hop back out of town with the truck script
Did an explanation last video, doing one this time too: Idea 1 - shiny bulbassaur is the missingno of gen 3 onward, same way Rydon was the missingno of gen 1: when a sprite must be used and one can't be accessed, species index 0 is used. Idea 2 -nurse joy keeps spawning objects: 256 in fact! This is because you have 0 pokemon. When healing, there is a cycle. add a sprite, add 1 to the number of pokeballs added, check if the number is equal to the number of Pokémon in the party: if it is, stop; otherwise, repeat the cycle. Idea 3 - like I said in the other explanation comment, the truck is always there; it gets hidden when you make progress toward the beginning of the game (specifically, entering the house is what triggers it). The trigger for the intro cutscene isn't exiting the truck, but rather entering Petalburg at all. This is what's called a map script: a script that runs when you enter a map Idea 4 - why would this work? Idea "is the truck still there?" - remember how I said there was a map script? OP removed it, and likely removed some other important scripts. - now the town didn't run a script to know what gender OP is, so either house shows both the neighbours and the mom; they are both in renovations, and they both have the truck. - determining the rival and player's mom's movement direction depends on another script that gets run when interacting with the pokeball and clock respectively, so the town script doesn't change that - that said, room ownership is messy because that is still determined as per the removed portion of the town script Idea 6 - probably a gender check OP missed Idea 7 - she likely chose torchic because that's a default value of her that then gets changed. I am too lazy to check. Idea 7 - yeah, the game does not check if you finished the tutorial anywhere but the tutorial area; that'd be a waste of cycles Idea 8 - the answer is yes, you do not need to make another video

There are 2 trucks because a Player can choose either a boy or a girl which has different houses,
It is also the reason why both moms are in both houses
Now I want to see you beating the game from that point forward...:D
What happens if you skip the intro somehow so you don't have a username, or input an invalid input for the intro? What sprite will you have?
What happens if you trick the game into thinking there's a different amount of starters?
I assume it will default to Brendan and choose the first preset name since Brendan's house is the one that gets prioritized when it has to choose between the two.
Why am I watching a 15 years old video of pokemon emerald mythbusting WAIT THIS WAS UPLOADED TODAY???)
15 years ago? Brotha, Gen 3 released a few months ago!
The character needs to walk through 4 trees and a half of the next tree, and then walk straight down till you see the pop up of Littleroot Town,
and then walking left to exit the trees to be in Littleroot Town.
I know how it works in RPG Maker XP, to avoid the black screen you must put 8 tiles (4 trees) in a map, so the player can't see the black screen.
This channel deserves waaay more views!
5:04 "Metapod, I'll catch you later" lmao
I remember years ago I found a way to clone Pokemon using the walk through walls cheat and one of the spots inside the Pokecenter (upstairs iirc). But the cloned Pokemon only had sketch as their moves lol
I wonder what happens if you get yourself into a place where when the auto-walk routine begins where you walk with your mom into your new house, you actually leave the bounds of the map.
I wonder if the rival defaults to Torchic because you “had” a shiny Bulbasaur..? Maybe the game read you have a grass type so it chose a fire type?
I have no clue but it could be! I will need to do some research on that one
The invisible Shiny Bulbasaur is a Missingno in a way. This happens if you don't have a starter yet
I don't think so, the first starter is Treecko(Grass), maybe the game default sets the variable to 1, and that might be why the rival chose Torchic(Fire)
no, the pokemon with shiny bulbasaur sprite is a glitch pokemon and isn't actually grass type
I saw a similar video for Gen I that revealed that Blue had Charmander on his team as the default if you didn't choose a starter but still had a Pokemon. I wonder if the Fire Starter is always the one the rival has by default?
I used to play with map editors for ruby back in the day, and if im not mistaken, petalburg was the first map in the list and perhaps thats why when you escape rope out of the truck, you get teleported there, likely map 0 and the reason why you get tp'd to that house door might be because that was the first warp point placed when the map was made
Also the reason you trigger the out of truck event as soon as you enter littleroot town i believe is because it's a map script, set to trigger the first time you enter the map, which happens when you exit the truck, and its impossible to enter by any other side without editing the map or glitching/cheating, somehow idk why it didn't trigger when you left the truck by the other side, i think you edited the map for that as it's nit consistente with the escape rope method, because in bith cases both trucks should also be present
I dunno but you got me wanting to play old school Pokemon. Emerald and XD will always be where my heart is.
Yeah that's what I was thinking.
Pokemon No. 1 get prioritized....(Which is basically every grass type starters...)
If you try to heal it gonna show unlimited pokeball and the game gonna be freezing. Idk about you guy but android always like that
just found ur channel and ur vids are really cool man! keep it up
`8:05 The RSE rival probably picks Torchic because the first regional number in the Hoenn Pokedex is Treeko.
7:15
Older Pokémon games use variables to set up some factors in the game, one of them is your rival's starter.
Leaving a truck the wrong way puts you in a quantum state.
This guys is answering all my childhood questions with a single video 😮💨
The reason for May/Brendan's starter being a Torchic might be that your default unloaded Pokémon is a Bulbasaur, which is a grass type?
And btw the reason why it's a shiny Bulbasaur might be related to the fact that Bulbasaur is Pokémon #1 in the Pokédex, so it makes sense that a "default" Pokémon is a Bulbasaur
Your mom bought two houses, married May's mother, still treats Norman as her husband, gives May two rooms and you none, and still makes you ride in the back of the moving van.
Girlboss behavior right there.
Is the truck still there?
I wonder what would've happened if you checked your rival's pokeball from within the left house as a guy.
Just wanna say thank you for the content hahah cheers
keep in mind too about emulator innacuracies. if you're using mgba it should be accurate but if you're using Very Bad Amulator, the results could be different than real hardware
Norman has been busy it’s no wonder he took the job as a gym leader
Probably says inside of truck like when you save in there
I kind of like that they paid attention to the gen 1 glitch where you put a npc in the left tall grass and it gets you stuck in Pr Oak's lab wall. But to fix it here, they just instructed the game to ignore walls and to tp when the walk routine is achieved, no matter if you reached the right door or not
Prof. Birch so rich he bought the whole town.
7:49 torchic was probably chosen because I’m assuming if bulbasaur is the default sprite grass is probably the default starter type (and also treecko is the first Pokémon in the hoenn dex)
Next idea!!!
Escape rope, but HM fly back to littleroot to try to skip the professor event.
ive studied a lot about pokemon rom hacking and i mess aroynd with it a lot so i understand all of whats happening here this is so entertaining. when nurse joy heals you the game try’s to draw the maximum number of pokeballs possible within the 16 bit integer limit.
Are the trucks still there?
interesting look into how the events are set up for little root town
When your mom and your neighbor's mom lesve their neglectful husbands for each other.
Ohhh, I'm looking forward to that experiment
Dad left mom to become a 24/7 gym leader, so mom got the divorce and started a relationship with the neightbours
Such a great idea for content this is
When you fight trainers with no pokémon you appear with the glitched "?" Pokémon and you lose, but does the same happen with gym leaders?
This is something that we'll find out in one of the next videos🔥
I can't wait to show you guys the discoveries that I made
@@ShinyMetapod and i cant wait to see those discoveries! 😄
Yes, that's a failsafe in Gen III. When you play your turn you automatically faint.
1:06
That's (?), the Nothing Pokemon
"For some reason I have a Shiny Bulbasaur but I can't press on him." -- Context.
Wish you would've checked the signs on the houses
6:25 May has 2 HOUSES? IN THIS ECONOMY??
Tbf it WAS the early 2000s😂
It makes me think more like "can you stop leaving your stuff in my room?
Because typically, visitors arrive and take over your space.
Renting both. She was just there for a tea visit and some cookies.
Damn I really wanted to watch this video getting ready for work. Wish there was audio.

Explanation for Petalburg warp: 0:0's map data is outside of a house.
My guess why its torchic:
The system thinks still you have that shiny bulbasaur you showed us at the start and its registered as grasstype so it thinks that if you have a grasstype starter it will show firetype starter and its for all 3 cases
Is this self hacking? I never found any cheat code that allows me to do that
Because you can't technically have no pokémon, in gen 3 you had a shiny bulbasaur as a placeholder until you chose your starter.
@@pi_xi yeah that checks out
try the 2 moms thing again, but interact with the ball in your own home. im curious if therell be another you or if you become your own rival
two trucks holding hands
Quality content fr fr
So when you meal with no pokemon, you actually heal 65,555 pokemon due to the integer limit of the game, and the "Shiny Bulbasaur" is actually Pallet 0 of the list and Bulbasaur is No. 0 in the list, so it's a No. 0 with pallet 0
She sent out torchic because of the error Pokemons ID being the first, idk if the regional or national dex but either way it would be a grass type, so she picks the fire starter
i wonder if you were intended originally to start in the other house if you chose to play as may but they scrapped it because it was too much effort to fix the bugs we're seeing here
Looks like may moved in same time as brendan 😂
if you use a walk through walls cheat, from the truck and go left, down, down, right, right, right, up, right, it gives the same effect. you start in petalburg
you also get to see a female "brendan" and a male "may" if you touch the pokeball in your house
I remember the shiny bulbasuar
In gen 3 (and i think gen 6 as well) shiny bulbasaur with no name was a placeholder for if you either, broke the game by somehow trading a pokemon like missingno, or if you manage to start the game without collecting your starter
Did an explanation last video, doing one this time too:
Idea 1
- shiny bulbassaur is the missingno of gen 3 onward, same way Rydon was the missingno of gen 1: when a sprite must be used and one can't be accessed, species index 0 is used.
Idea 2
-nurse joy keeps spawning objects: 256 in fact! This is because you have 0 pokemon. When healing, there is a cycle. add a sprite, add 1 to the number of pokeballs added, check if the number is equal to the number of Pokémon in the party: if it is, stop; otherwise, repeat the cycle.
Idea 3
- like I said in the other explanation comment, the truck is always there; it gets hidden when you make progress toward the beginning of the game (specifically, entering the house is what triggers it). The trigger for the intro cutscene isn't exiting the truck, but rather entering Petalburg at all. This is what's called a map script: a script that runs when you enter a map
Idea 4
- why would this work?
Idea "is the truck still there?"
- remember how I said there was a map script? OP removed it, and likely removed some other important scripts.
- now the town didn't run a script to know what gender OP is, so either house shows both the neighbours and the mom; they are both in renovations, and they both have the truck.
- determining the rival and player's mom's movement direction depends on another script that gets run when interacting with the pokeball and clock respectively, so the town script doesn't change that
- that said, room ownership is messy because that is still determined as per the removed portion of the town script
Idea 6
- probably a gender check OP missed
Idea 7
- she likely chose torchic because that's a default value of her that then gets changed. I am too lazy to check.
Idea 7
- yeah, the game does not check if you finished the tutorial anywhere but the tutorial area; that'd be a waste of cycles
Idea 8
- the answer is yes, you do not need to make another video
