    Don't feel bad about having problems with that Speedball plate. I haven't heard of anyone having success with them for this kind of thing. You have been persistent! What I've heard is that the Speedball plates were designed to be used with Akua printing inks (it is now a Speedball product). With my Gel Press plate, I've used all types of paper, never as heavy as Bristol board, though. Very interesting!

    • @bluelavaart

      You know, I was looking at the Speedball plates in the store and saw the Akua inks and thought to myself, "Hmmm, I didn't know these brands were linked" I guess it makes sense now. I thought about cutting up the Speedball plate because the tear is even worse now. Maybe I will try it with the inks. Thank you!!!

      @@bluelavaart and then you're going to be enchanted by all kinds of ways to print! Lol! I have an Atlas pasta machine that I got for polymer clay and a Big Shot that I got for paper projects, and both are being used 😂as entry drugs for printing presses! Just a warning... Enjoy! Lol!

      Speedball plates don’t work with acrylic paints! It even says so on the packaging…

      My pleasure! I think what I find challenging about the little circle plates is that they are so small and the image transfer needs to be high contrast, it is hard to find the best images for magazines to use. I want to start using them for my laser print image transfers soon. Hopefully I will start to like them better.

    This is one of the best videos I've seen on magazine image transfers, thank you for posting this.
    One thing I've learned from Yeates makes, turn your gelli plate upside down and pull
    It off the paper. Less paper tears this way and much easier.

    Speedball plates are designed for use with printing ink. They don work so well with acrylics, which is why I use Gelli.

    • @bluelavaart
      @bluelavaart  7 месяцев назад +1

      I have had so much more success with Gelli. I love speedball but you are right, they are better suited for ink

    Havent tried with a magazine yet, but I did get success with laser printed images. However, A LOT of trial and error was involved. It looks way easier than it actually is, and the learning process can be super frustrating as you mentioned. But successful pulls are soooooo satisfying and make it totally worth it.

      You are so incredibly right. Sometimes they work perfectly and other times they completely fail, but when they do work perfectly, it is such a good feeling. 💕💕

    As an artist you can use an image in an ORIGINAL PIECE of work - BUT you cannot reproduce it in any way so as to profit from the reselling. It’s the reproductions that will get you in trouble. The use of an image in an original piece of art work is called Fair Use.

    This was also very informative. I love the tip about painting on the more textured paper first. I have a lot of mixed media and cold press watercolor paper with that texture issue. Will also need to try Bristol Board. I’m now a subscriber, and can’t wait for more of your content. I don’t do TicTok so this is great.

      The paper thing can be a challenge. Experimentation is key. Have fun with the process. I am also working on putting together some of my TikToks on to a longer RUclips video format for subscribers like you.

    Where do you get the card stock for the card - or what paper do you use to make a card and then which glue is best to adhere nicely to the card (your gelli print )

    • @bluelavaart
      @bluelavaart  3 месяца назад

      Mostly bristol board for the paper and I use gel medium as well. :)

    I not dyslexic but I am autistic and one of the symtoms for me is dyspraxia. When I learn a new motor skill I will do it backwards or mirrored and I get confused how to (mentally and physically) turn things.. it takes ages and notes don't work for me because I can't mentally translate them to what to do.. especially when doing crafts like knitting or crochet and is probably the reason why I color and paint.

    • @bluelavaart
      @bluelavaart  Год назад +1

      Oh yes. I can't do origami for the same reasons. I am constantly confused on which way to turn things. However, I can write backwards and backwards and upside down as fast as I write normally. Go figure!

    Does the initial black ink image transfer on the gel plate have to dry first before you add other colours?
