Based on the fantastical illustrated magazine HEAVY METAL, producer IVAN REITMAN enlists the help of some of Hollywood's animation masters to create the otherworldly tale of a glowing green orb from outer space that spreads destruction throughout the galaxy. Only when encountered by its one true enemy, to whom it is inexplicably drawn, will goodness prevail throughout the universe. Richly and lavishly drawn, the vignettes of the orb's dark victories include the character voices of John Candy, Harold Ramis and a pounding soundtrack by Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult, Cheap Trick, Devo, Donald Fagen, Don Felder, Grand Funk Railroad, Sammy Hagar, Journey, Nazareth, Stevie Nicks, Riggs, and Trust. Highly imaginative and full of surprising special effects, HEAVY METAL set the standard for the alternative contemporary animation. An intoxicating experience not to be missed!

Lots of airline flights seem like this now, with the behaviour of some people 😆
Imagine this was a story of call of duty to be honest that would be interesting. 🤔
The pilot deserves an intellect award, it's not every day you see someone using common sense in a horror film and simply nopeing the heck out of there
what else he would do? he was trapped into the cockpit, and needs his Colt ammo to survive
Yeah you should watch the rest of the clip...
@@PugilistCactus 🤣🤣
@@PugilistCactus RIP
It’s not a horror film. It’s a collection of short stories.
And sadly once he parachutes out he parachutes into an island full of them.
i still can't believe this is from the 80's .... the artists and animators were so talented
Smh you act like people were inferior back then or something
There’s animation from the 1940’s that’ll blow your mind.
The artist Jean Giraud who did this movie actually inspired blade runner and bunch of cyber punk movies with his art
We've been pretty good at animating for almost a century by now.
The 80's beneficiated from a time of great economic growth and this makes it easier to create such pieces of Art.
@@Bingo_the_Pug indeed, theres an animation of superman that is super smooth
The B-17 segment of Heavy Metal is based on a short story by Dan O'Bannon called Gremlins, about a B-17 bomber in World War II being invaded by gremlins. O'Bannon used elements of Gremlins and his script for John Carpenter's Dark Star to write his original script for Alien.
Heard A.G.Van Vogt s Journey of the Space Beagle and the Space 1999 episode Dragon's Domain also influenced them as well.
Cool!
That's funny because, this segment inspired a really excellent book following a similar premise as this skit. Then that book would later partially inspire another author in their works, an author who would later go on to write both starwars: death troopers novels.
fun fact: the "Gremlins" or gnomes(depends) are from real life reports of plane pilots/crew seeing lights and small creatures on their planes during flights.
Interesting
Interesting. But I always thought they based it on WWII pilots and their reported sightings of foo fighters following their planes
I'll admit it... this part of the movie actually gave me nightmares when I was younger. The intense fear of being stuck in such a small space with something that horrible... then thinking you escaped only to find you really didn't.
Same, I found it terrifying even to this day just thinking about being stranded up in the sky with almost no connection to the ground
I would’ve loved to know what his fate was. We assume he was killed soon after he landed but truth is, we don’t know what happened
The pilot didn't make it? Despite jumping?
@@adriananic8258 The pilot lands on a deserted island, starts to take in his surroundings, then you see undead airmen rising and advancing on him from all sides, then the scene fades to black. Most likely he dies horribly, but you don't really know.
Wait the zombies survived the plane crash to make it to the island or there where already zombies there?
Used to stay up late some nights and watch this with my dad, I was terrified of this part, but I’d give anything to go back and re live those moments, Rest In Peace Dad.
Dude. Me too. I watched this with my dad all the time and would give anything to relive one of those nights. He passed like 15 years ago.
Your dads are cool, mine would’ve never let me see this, too many tities😂
Man can anyone imagine the reactions of the ground crews for the home base where this plane was stationed if the plane managed to make it back and everyone from the mechanics to the base commander watched as the undead crew came out now that would be scary.
there could have been some victims due to surprise , but there would be no way they would resist to Garand or BAR big-caliber rifle bullets, multiple 45 rounds from Thompson or projectiles from Winchester shotguns fired from guards
That's a great start to a Scooby-Doo episode, Scooby-Doo and the gang hear a story of a plane crash and find the pilot who tells them what happened and where to find the plane.
Waiting for a rated-R scooby doo rebbot
@@imperialdrone6261 That's just gonna kill half of the cast lol
Or somehow the pilot survived, and as a (very) old man he speaks about his story in a retirement house, and one of the janitors think of search for this island and a treasure hidden in one of these planes/ships...🤔
@@imperialdrone6261 you should check out scooby doo apocalypse. It's technically an adult take on the series
this doesn't really fit to the style of an hana barbara cartoon
It's been about 20 years since heavy metal 2000. We need another one
Isn’t Love, death or robots the spiritual successor to heavy metal
with one direct sequel about the B17 pilot, hopefully
No we don't. 90% of the core audience died ages ago.
No
This story is scary and has an ec comics vibe and aesthetic to it
it seems it's because it's based about the style of a sci-fic comics magazine
The magazine also offered fantasy and horror stories
this animation style makes for a great scary story.
YES! Very raw and gritty.
I saw the special features on the d.v.d. for this movie and the B-17 was a practical model and I think it was the same for the house because at the end of the movie when the LocNarr and the house exploded it looked like a real house too.
Fun fact, the exploding house is the only practical shot left in the movie. They ran outta time to rotoscope the reference shot used, so they just used it wholesale.
Rotoscoping
I really hated this one. The guy finally makes it to safety but it's to an island filled with more of the zombie pilots. Just a sad, hopeless ending.
Cry some more
Thanks for spoiling it
I agree. I mean they all are sad in a way but this one is hopeless.

Sick spoiler dude
Heavy Metal is a staple of my childhood. Granted, it was already 10 years old by the time I was born. This scene in particular (and the remainder that wasn't shown) interested me the most and was likely what started my obsession with the zombie subculture.
So is it just s collage of stories like Love Death and Robots?
Remember kids, never bully your colleagues or someday anomaly will fly into your working place and turn everybody around you into vengeance seeking zombie rather than the work on their duty like a responsible worker zombie.
Anomaly! Don't move!
Will do
it is about the movie plot? or it's one silly joke?
Is that a threat?
Responsible worker zombie 😂
This is better than most videos I've ever seen in this platform.
This entire short feels like an opening cinematic in cod zombies
I CANNOT BELEIVE IT, AFTER ALL THESE YEARS! I saw this once when I was young and it scared the daylights out of me. When i grew up, I wanted to find the name of the movie/ show but couldn't find anything about it. Here it is, just randomly scrolling through RUclips. What are the odds?
The zombie segment was always my favorite part
I've watched this so many times and I still get the same feeling like its the first. This was amazing!
The first time I saw this movie and I saw this scene it scared the crap out of me I mean a Zombie outbreak during WW2 man that was scary to think about and I'm even surprised no one thought of doing a Zombie film set during WW2 I mean they should since they did one before that was set in the 1700's called Pride and Prejudice and Zombies heck they even did one where Abraham Lincoln fought Zombies.
Movie name pls
Abraham Lincoln vs Zombies (2012)
There is a boardgame you may be interested in: Axis and Allies and Zombies

Then vampires
Check out the movie Overlord, it’s WW2 with zombies.
extremely impressive animation
Saw this back in the 80s. Great movie and killer soundtrack. Thank you. 😁
too bad it will never get a sequel. i would really like to see what will happen to the pilot on that island , how he would fight the zombies and then get rescued. that dude would have then got serious PTSD however... or else i like to think he would become a badass
Yeah now he's known as doom guy lol
you cut out the ending lol
it was the most scariest thing, the green orb representing evils of the world/universe/dimensions etc corrupted all the dead bodies and when the pilot lands lands in a land of living corpses, kids these these days will forget that zombies originally a super natural thing i.e "dead rising from the grave" not the resident evil "humans got infected by a virus"
Where can I get that?
@@Legio_Purpura_20_18 The movie? VUDU
The full movie is available now on TUBI.
There are 2 kinds of zombies anyway
Virus kinds and mystical kinds
Well yes, while the original idea of the zombie had to do with the supernatural (Haitian voodoo), but ever since the 60s, mainstream zombie movies have been about viruses or radiation. So it’s not really “kids these days” unless you are 100 years old.
I remember there was a comic where, guys from ww2 got killed but returned from the dead.
To hunt Criminals
This animation and sound design is amazing!

Wow the animation style is out of the world 😲👏
Love this movie ♥️♥️♥️🍒
Damn this is so well made!
This caught my attention
This film is way ahead of its time.
That's exactly what I thought when I saw it in 1981. I was 19. Great age to watch it.
Cool
Man that is good.

This part of the movie dtuck to me as a child to this day. The part where the copilote is killed in particular is haunting.
Wow man!

Hurray for Gerald! Lets hear it for Gerald!
This part still gives me the creeps all these years later
The most unrealistic part is fitting two men in a ball turret.
The amount of time and brain cells I spent looking for this specific scene hahaha
Looks like a banger opening to a CoD Zombies Mode.
Still got my VHS of this. The first movie my girl and I watched together.
A 2D ANIMATED HORROR MOVIE!!! I LOVE IT!!!!

I’m sensing a theme with this green ball
What a sick mind did this
Is there a part two this is intriguing
Reminds me of the Disney The Black Cauldron art style.
I haven’t seen this in years
That looked scary actually. The zombies definetly sounded very scary. Where can I stream this?
is this a flying plane or ship coz there are huge holes on the fuselage but no wind at all.
Serious Nacht Der Untoten plane crash intro scene vibes from WaW
Why does this feel like it would be a great intro for a horror game
This segment took me off guard when I was watching :(( poor fella
Poor co-pilot.
Heavy metal
This story has always scared me. And I’m 45 years old now.
Still curious for the next
Okay, if anybody today depicts zombies strong enough to break down a metal door, I'm giving them the finger. Bones and rotten flesh aren't tougher that solid metal.
Yeah, because undead monsters brought back to life by dark magic, is okay, but their being possessed with inhuman strength steps beyond the realms of verisimilitude.
@@KesselRunner606 If a bullet can tear through a zombie then they can't overcome a solid metal door.
@@B.B.Digital_Forest 2 things, first bullets are traveling at several hundred feet per second, yes even the .45 acp travels at 750fps
Second that door would have been made of light weight aluminum and interesting historical fact B17 bombers did not have a door separating the cockpit from the aft of the aircraft
