- Anna has chosen the quilt block that she wants to make based on the Little Women Quilt she found on Pinterest. I had a try at making something like it. I will leave the details and measurements below if you want to try it. The first attempt was wrong, a little out, but I think I have told you many times how bad I am at Maths! The second attempt was spot on! I love watching Anna discover how awesome quilting is!

The strips in Anna's block are cut to 2" with the middle strip being 3"
I cut the foundation fabric at 10" square. Experiment with sizes of your own!
Kate and Anna are so lucky to have each other! As we say, there are no Quilt Police so do what you like! And there would be nothing wrong with finishing this small quilt that you learned on and donating it! I like purple and lavender, but that's just me!☺It is fun watching you teach your daughter in law. Anna will learn so much from you, Kate!😍
Can you just imagine the countless sweet smiles and happy heartbeats among all of us following this quilting journey! Warms my heart!
Yes! Yes! Absolutely thrilling. 🤗🇨🇦
And down the rabbit hole she goes! Welcome to the wonderful world of quilting!
Loved Anna's "Whoa" moment. So cute. Welcome to the quilting world, Anna. You could add a bit of a border to the sample squares, and make a little doll blanket for Agnes. I bet she would love it.
We are all having fun watching Anna discover the joy we all feel as quilters. Everyone starts out with training wheels and you have the best teacher, Anna. 🥰
You're so lucky Anna to have such s wonderful mother-in-law
She really is. Mine was so horrible to me. Anna is so blessed 🙌

Me too🥰💕
Kate and Anna enjoy their time together so much. It's a joy to watch 🤗
It certainly is!
Love watching her learning experience. Pretty much all of this I learned from trial and error. My first fabric purchase was a hot mess! lol Welcome to quilting!
Oh dear ..Anna you are doing a wonderful exploration of string piecing....the wonder of quilting. Soooo much fun. Remember to listen to Kate...she is a wealth of information and inspiration. 🧡💜💙
You two are precious together. You remind me of all the fun times I had learning new crafting styles with my late mother in law. We had such fun times together :) Anna you are doing so well and have a great teacher. You will be doing a solo flight soon.
Thank you! That's so nice you had all those lovely crafting times with your mother in law too! Anna xx
“The quilt police would have your guts for garters.” 😂😂😂 My laugh for this week. The quilt police should see some of the quilts my granny made. I’m certain she never bought an inch of fabric for her quilts. She simply gathered all the fabric scraps from anyone who would donate them to her and made dozens of quilts to keep us all warm. Her quilts made the crazy quilt design appear to be the most planned and orderly quilt in the history of quilting. Her stitching was as wobbly as some of the pig trails nearby her childhood home. Every child and grandchild has received at least one of her quilts. One of her sons was buried in his 101st year in the warmth of one of her creations. My mother found comfort in them while she endured Alzheimer’s disease. My granny worried until the end of her 99 years (in 1997) about everyone keeping warm. She kept us all very warm, and her quilts still remind us of her and her remarkable life. What more could the quilt police want from a quilt?
I so enjoy your channel, Kate. I love following the story of Agnes’ quilt, the British Isles quilt, the quilt commissions, Norma, Rita, Eileen, and all your creations. You are a delight to watch and to listen to.
What a lucky girl Anna is, to be taught how to quilt by Kate! So patient & encouraging!! I love to watch the two of you together. Warms the heart for sure! Keep with it, Anna!!
P.S. The fabrics that you are using are my favorite color!!!

Made from scratch is apparently a sporting term when the start line was scratched into the ground.
Lovely video,thank you for sharing.
Good to know! I enjoy learning the origins of our common responses that don’t often make sense. Love getting the meaning which now makes sense. 👍
You are both just lovely together! Thank you for taking us along on Anna's quilting journey.
Jordan fabric-Donna Jordan uses the dumb bells! She’s fantastic !
You two are a joy together. Great job Anna!
Lots and Lots of choices! I personally love the purple! Have fun Anna and Kate!
Anna is doing fantastic. Practice makes perfect. I like the darker purple that is different.
Kate and Anna, You are bringing myself and countless others so much joy with this series. Anna, I'm learning right alongside you as this is my first attempt at machine piecing - I've been intimidated for decades. Kate, each time you offer Anna support and encouragement - I know you are talking to all of the viewers too. I'm sharing this with my two adult daughters - we've been bitten! You are both gems. Hugs from across the pond.
Very nice Anna, you have an excellent instructor helping you. It is lovely to see you two working together. My favorite color is on the board, "purples". Keep on, enjoy and be creative that will make you happy when you snuggle under your quilt on a cool night .💕
Go Anna! Well done! Remember not a mistake, a learning experience towards skill building.👏🏻
Lovely … Anna couldn’t have a better teacher.💕
It's absolutely delicious to watch how excited Kate gets as she watches Anna sewing. It's such a great feeling to pass on your knowledge to the next generation. Well done both of you!!
Amazing how many different blocks come out of one basic design. And, they all look awesome!!
My favorite Sunday activity! Watching Kate! And Anna when she is on!
Love watching you both! So enjoyable, too, to see Anna catch the quilting bug! Blessings to you both.
Anna is so fortunate to have you for a mother-in-law. I only had 1 that would have been good but she passed away before we got married. I so wanted a good one. Too late now. Enjoy all the time u have with all yr children and in-laws. Bless u all. Delia, Oreo and me. 😺🐈👵🧸🥰
Very special moments..having that light bulb go on when seeing the possibilities!!
Great start to Anna’s quilting journey
oooo Anna I love the last block was beautiful! I'm kinda rooting for that one. haha
Haha I know - that's the one I keep thinking about.... Anna xx
I thought I liked the idea with the squares in the middle till I saw the last two - so many choices! Thank you, ladies!
So much fun watching the process. This block offers so many interesting design options. I can't wait to see what Anna comes up with for her fabric choices. That is usually the most challenging part of the process for me. But still enjoyable!
I soooo love this! You two are a JOY to watch! I am hooked on your relaxing, informative and learning channel….Even the sipping tea and reading and views and cleaning the cabinets! EVERYTHING!❤❤
Anna you are doing really well. Keep going. My best advice for you is, perfection is not the goal, chasing “ perfection “. Squeezes out all the joy of creation.
Thank you! Yes this is good advice. Anna xx
I wish I would have had a teacher like Kate when I started quilting!! It was just the quilt book and me!
Lovely watching Anna learning how to make quilt blocks, you are such a teacher I love making blocks and quilts I learnt everything from you tube take care xx
How fun! You Ladies are awesome! Great job Anna&Kate!
I love the secondary block in the dark ones. It looks very modern. Well done Anna and well done to your instructor!!
What a fabulous Mother in Law you are, Kate. Wish I had a MiL like you. I am enjoying watching and learning as Anna takes her next steps. Very much looking forward to seeing Anna searching through your fabric stash🤗😍 x
I have decided that I will learn quilting along with Anna, I am a garment sewist. Cannot wait to plan my quilt!
Possibly my favourite video from you so far. And that is really saying something. To watch Anna's real reactions, whilst you taught, was delightful. It made me smile the entire way through. Thank you x
How sweet this is, Kate, you are a wonderful Mother in law!! Anna, you are a sweet daughter in law, blessed to have such a great cheerful teacher!
Good teacher and good student 👍...so much fun to watch and feel like I am right there with you
Awww, how lovely ! And I bet you you enjoyed a lovely tea and cakes together ❤️
You're doing great Anna. This was a fun video. Looking forward to the next.
Love your relationship! I had a similar relationship with my mother in law, (sadly no longer with us) she taught me so much and we had so many giggles together too! Also a few too many cups of tea and cakes! 😂. It’s lovely to learn from someone you feel comfortable with. Well done Anna, you’re doing great. I feel your pain re fabric choices. It’s so hard till you make a couple of quilts and can visualise things better. Especially trying new blocks! Look forward to your progress and fun together.
Anna brilliant!!! Bravo great practice block. I’d watch my Gran for hours sewing her quilt tops and I could never figure out how she did it. Here at 67 and I’m learning from you 😉 ♥️
This was so helpful for beginners and maybe intermediates. Love your interaction making it so much fun.
How fun to watch you two share such excitement together!
OMG I am a quilt dummy and afraid to start! No more! Like Anna has Kate at her side to guide her, I can watch and re-watch and have the courage to start something! I have my mother's stash of fabric after she passed as well as fabric i have been buying. Thank you ladies...♡
What a wonderful relationship you both have, rare for ‘In-laws’. Lovely to see. Xxx
That little twist you did at the end gave a fantastic result. My mind is a little bit blown.
I don't understand why you both don't really like purple and lavenders, my favorites, but it really is fun to watch Anna learning to sew. I hope she enjoys it so much it becomes one of her favorite hobbies. Variations have a way of calling you back, again and again.
You are a fabulous teacher....Anna is very lucky!!
I think we've added a new quilter to the art. Good job Anna, you will love quiltmaking!
Thank you! I am enjoying it so much. Anna xx
Anna, you are a courageous woman! Learning to quilt LIVE on youtube. Keep up your good work. I am inspired by your learning and your work. I love the way Kate is teaching you. ....so organic..... Thank-you, Anna in sharing your journey! I can't wait to see more. And BIG thank-you to Kate. You are the best. oh...and let's not forget the "Whoa!" moment. So fun. You guys have such a relaxed relationship. -Angèle from Devon, Alberta, Canada :) xxx
anna is doing wonderfully!! It is so nice to see a new quilter being boen and the world of quilting through her eyes! You are a great teacher Kate!
I feel like I'm in heaven with all of those Purples!!
Your smiles are like sunshine.
Lucky you Anna to be able to look through Kate's stash 😊
I know! I can't wait. Anna xx
I learned the dumbell trick from Jordan quilts. Such a big help!!!! Plus, I can tell myself I'm not just sewing, I'm exercising 🤣
Oh my gosh, Anna, you’re gonna have so much fun! 😍
Thank you Kate and Anna, now I am going to have to make a few of these blocks. My oldest daughter just loves purple and blues and greens even in the same piece. I love making her quilts so long as I can find the right colors.
Anna, I think you’re doing a great job! Keep stitching.
I always find myself smiling as I watch your videos!
I Enjoyed watching Anna and Kate-nervous with camera and people! Nervously fun!😂And the variation YES! - wonderful!! exciting you 2, - FUN🥰I had fun learning you TWO!- keep going😁😂-
Kate you are such a good teacher and so patient.
How sensible of you to actually get some stitching done and it can be inspiring. It can be daunting choosing material and you can get disheartened and think you won’t bother. Fabric for a quilt can be/ is expensive and you want to get it right. Watching such videos as Jordan fabrics, lovely as they are but we don’t all have access to acres of gorgeous material with no worry about cost. Anna can make her rookie errors without too much pressure, you are both doing well.
I'm with you, Anna. Not a fan of those colors either, yet it comes together in a quilt block quite pretty. You're learning so much, and thanks for letting us watch. It helps me, at least, to learn also. Have fun.
Anna, what a sweet treat you are and what joy you also bring to these lovely videos! I love your connection with Kate!❤
I happen to love the purples and lilacs, but I'm a bit older. I can't wait to see what Anna chooses for her final quilt and I think she's lucky to have a mother in love who is willing to teach and has patience. It's obvious that you have a great relationship. :) Loving this series.
OH! I meant to suggest that maybe Anna should consider doing the center of her quilt with the "standard" blocks, then using the alternate blocks as a border of sorts.
Sweeet! Reminds me of the first quilt I made wirh my grandma💕
Great job Anna!
Yay! Beautiful blocks! Purple is one of our favorite colors!
Just lovely to watch you together beautiful family 💕
That extra block you created there was VERY cool. I think I said that at the same time Anna did...lol. This is fun to watch and I love the comments about the quilt police. I feel the same way about them. bah! 😉 Thanks for sharing. This is a fun series.
So much fun watching Anna learn!!! Kate makes a great teacher!!! I hope we get to see Kates stash in the next video. The only thing more fun than your own stash (mine is huge!) is getting to see someone else's!!!
Absolutely! X
Thank you both so much for this video.♥️😊 Honestly thought quilting so far beyond my skill set (in many areas) but watching this I am so intrigued and thrilled that my basic skills may be useful after all. Breaking down the tasks and following Anna follow you is like a Master Class but with patience and humour thrown in. I will continue to follow along and now my love of colour and beautiful prints may get put to some use...I blame you Kate for my Kaffe Fassett obsession. 😄😊 I must also tell you that while watching an online "live sale" of antiques (from the US) a few of us started chatting about your channel and Anna's quilting adventure...that Lime Green Couch stretches far and wide. Thank you. ♥️😊🇨🇦
Oh that's so cool! Thank you! Anna xx
I'm enjoying watching you teach Anna. Great idea using the fabric you don't enjoy. I'm looking forward to the next video, choosing colors/fabric combines a struggle for me.
I just love your videos, they make me smile. Thank you Kate and Anna.
Loved watching Anna's journey into quilting. I was waiting for her to stick her tongue out, the look of concentration was brilliant. Good work Girls!!😃
I have a suction cup handle from Amazon…works great…enjoying this series…hard to remember this is the first not the last one, so everything you want doesn’t need to be in this quilt…a lesson it took me a lifetime to learn❤️from Minnesota 🌷🌷
Ooh that's a good tip, thank you! Yes that is so true. Anna xx
Anna, I understand your struggles, I’m a new quilter too! It’s so fun!😂😂
How exciting and enlightening. Good teacher, good student. Love all the tips and tricks. Marjorie from Georgia US. 🌈👍
How lovely to be able to share in Anna's quilting journey. Luckily she has a knowledgeable, patient teacher to guide her. and I daresay we are all going to pick up some useful hints and tips along the way. Making the quilt blocks is a great idea to refine a design choice! Thank you ladies for inviting us along, it has all the makings of a 'must see' series for new quilters.
Love love love the series of teaching anna .. it's so sweet and I learn loads and totally relate to Anna's learning tragectory.. I feel like I am learning with you both. so sweet thank you both for having us be with you ..
