What a lucky girl Anna is, to be taught how to quilt by Kate! So patient & encouraging!! I love to watch the two of you together. Warms the heart for sure! Keep with it, Anna!! P.S. The fabrics that you are using are my favorite color!!! 😉💜💜💜
Anna is so lucky to have you as a mother in law, mentor, friend, quilt teacher! And i can see the joy in your face enjoying her learning and companionship…. Truly wonderful
Kate, you and Anna have the sweetest relationship. You're like best friends. You two have the best time together. You laugh and laugh. What a joy! Beautiful memories you both are making. And they are recorded for posterity. I would back these videos up if you can so you both will have them for your selves and your grandchildren through John and Anna. You never know what can happen to your channel on RUclips. So finding a way to back up your videos for personal use can save them to pass down.❤😊♥️🇺🇲
Loved Anna's "Whoa" moment. So cute. Welcome to the quilting world, Anna. You could add a bit of a border to the sample squares, and make a little doll blanket for Agnes. I bet she would love it.
We are all having fun watching Anna discover the joy we all feel as quilters. Everyone starts out with training wheels and you have the best teacher, Anna. 🥰
Kate and Anna are so lucky to have each other! As we say, there are no Quilt Police so do what you like! And there would be nothing wrong with finishing this small quilt that you learned on and donating it! I like purple and lavender, but that's just me!☺It is fun watching you teach your daughter in law. Anna will learn so much from you, Kate!😍
Another quilter, yeah. Love watching your videos. Such a joy to see mother-in-love with such a good relationship with her daughter in love. I only had boys but now I have a daughter in love 🥰
Bravo, Anna! Be ready to accept the fact that there will be many rabbit holes as you move along in your quilting journey, and that there’s always the option to make another one later!
Hello Kate and Anna. What a lovely video of you both. Just love seeing you both sewing and quilting together. I will be waiting for the next video. Have a wonderful evening.❤️🧵🪡✂️😀
You two are precious together. You remind me of all the fun times I had learning new crafting styles with my late mother in law. We had such fun times together :) Anna you are doing so well and have a great teacher. You will be doing a solo flight soon.
“The quilt police would have your guts for garters.” 😂😂😂 My laugh for this week. The quilt police should see some of the quilts my granny made. I’m certain she never bought an inch of fabric for her quilts. She simply gathered all the fabric scraps from anyone who would donate them to her and made dozens of quilts to keep us all warm. Her quilts made the crazy quilt design appear to be the most planned and orderly quilt in the history of quilting. Her stitching was as wobbly as some of the pig trails nearby her childhood home. Every child and grandchild has received at least one of her quilts. One of her sons was buried in his 101st year in the warmth of one of her creations. My mother found comfort in them while she endured Alzheimer’s disease. My granny worried until the end of her 99 years (in 1997) about everyone keeping warm. She kept us all very warm, and her quilts still remind us of her and her remarkable life. What more could the quilt police want from a quilt? I so enjoy your channel, Kate. I love following the story of Agnes’ quilt, the British Isles quilt, the quilt commissions, Norma, Rita, Eileen, and all your creations. You are a delight to watch and to listen to.
I only found your channel a few days ago and I have already watched heaps of vlogs. I love your house and you have encouraged me to find my old prohects from 25 years ago....I want to quilt again...
I've only just discovered your channel this week, and I always grieved the lack of grandparent and parent passing on of skills, All my painting, crafting, sewing skills are learned from youtube from lovely people like yourself. But I am committed to passing on those skills (such as they are) to my own children and grandchildren. Thank you for such wonderful examples.
Anna is so fortunate to have you for a mother-in-law. I only had 1 that would have been good but she passed away before we got married. I so wanted a good one. Too late now. Enjoy all the time u have with all yr children and in-laws. Bless u all. Delia, Oreo and me. 😺🐈👵🧸🥰
I think Anna did a smashing job - towards the end she was just whipping her fabric through the Jenome. I am so enjoying learning how to quilt with the both of you. I have my jelly roll and cutting board at the ready. Thank you for sharing this lovely lesson.
Kate, After watching you make long stitch quilting, I decided to try it. What fun! I am so pleased with the end result. Thank you for sharing this skill. ❤️Diane Sanford Jackson, Tennessee USA
Anna. Keep going with the beautiful purples for Agnus a quilt made with her great grandmother's favorite fabrics. I am sure Agnus will treasure the quilt made by her mother.
Very nice Anna, you have an excellent instructor helping you. It is lovely to see you two working together. My favorite color is on the board, "purples". Keep on, enjoy and be creative that will make you happy when you snuggle under your quilt on a cool night .💕
Kate and Anna, You are bringing myself and countless others so much joy with this series. Anna, I'm learning right alongside you as this is my first attempt at machine piecing - I've been intimidated for decades. Kate, each time you offer Anna support and encouragement - I know you are talking to all of the viewers too. I'm sharing this with my two adult daughters - we've been bitten! You are both gems. Hugs from across the pond.
What a fabulous Mother in Law you are, Kate. Wish I had a MiL like you. I am enjoying watching and learning as Anna takes her next steps. Very much looking forward to seeing Anna searching through your fabric stash🤗😍 x
Anna might like the beautiful colors of Kansas Troubles fabric for her quilt. So many beautiful choices ! Enjoying this so much. You are so wonderful to teach her and pass on your love of quilting!
Visiting your tutorials is the most pleasant thing I do for myself. Kate, you remind me of my late mother in law as she was just as helpful, supportive , caring and loving to me as you are with Anna. Love the ahh-haa moments!
Anna you are doing really well. Keep going. My best advice for you is, perfection is not the goal, chasing “ perfection “. Squeezes out all the joy of creation.
It’s was lovely to see the joy you felt Kate teaching your daughter in law a lovely thing to work on together looking forward to see the quilt progress xx
I Enjoyed watching Anna and Kate-nervous with camera and people! Nervously fun!😂And the variation YES! - wonderful!! exciting you 2, - FUN🥰I had fun learning you TWO!- keep going😁😂-
I am so enjoying you and Anna quilting. I had all boys and their wives had no desire to learn quilting. Sigh! So I live vicariously through you and Anna!
Anna, you are so fortunate to have the best teacher right next to you. Enjoy the process and the final result will be a lovely quilt that will comfort your soul and body 😊
I love the blocks, I am 79 and want to learn and make a quilt, thank you and I love the purple colors. Thank you both and Kate you are an amazing teacher and I love your soothing voice.
I'm with you, Anna. Not a fan of those colors either, yet it comes together in a quilt block quite pretty. You're learning so much, and thanks for letting us watch. It helps me, at least, to learn also. Have fun.
Anna, you are such a Lucky Girl to have Kate willing to teach you how to pick colors, and the different ways of sewing all those peices together. I'm enjoying watching the process so much. Maybe on day my Granddaughters will want to sew one day, at this point it does not interest them, but one never can predict the Future. thanks for the lessons, Kate.
Watching the both of you just brought back a flood of fond memories of when my mother-in-law taught me how to quilt.. Memories I treasure dearly as she passed nearly 10 years ago. But when I'm in my sewing room working on a project.. I'd like to think she sitting next to me. Thank you ladies for sharing!! ❤❤❤
Oh dear ..Anna you are doing a wonderful exploration of string piecing....the wonder of quilting. Soooo much fun. Remember to listen to Kate...she is a wealth of information and inspiration. 🧡💜💙
OMG I am a quilt dummy and afraid to start! No more! Like Anna has Kate at her side to guide her, I can watch and re-watch and have the courage to start something! I have my mother's stash of fabric after she passed as well as fabric i have been buying. Thank you ladies...♡
I don't understand why you both don't really like purple and lavenders, my favorites, but it really is fun to watch Anna learning to sew. I hope she enjoys it so much it becomes one of her favorite hobbies. Variations have a way of calling you back, again and again.
That extra block you created there was VERY cool. I think I said that at the same time Anna did...lol. This is fun to watch and I love the comments about the quilt police. I feel the same way about them. bah! 😉 Thanks for sharing. This is a fun series.
How sensible of you to actually get some stitching done and it can be inspiring. It can be daunting choosing material and you can get disheartened and think you won’t bother. Fabric for a quilt can be/ is expensive and you want to get it right. Watching such videos as Jordan fabrics, lovely as they are but we don’t all have access to acres of gorgeous material with no worry about cost. Anna can make her rookie errors without too much pressure, you are both doing well.
Anna brilliant!!! Bravo great practice block. I’d watch my Gran for hours sewing her quilt tops and I could never figure out how she did it. Here at 67 and I’m learning from you 😉 ♥️
The quote that you have up there the squares the dark squares you should put in the middle of the light squares that would look cool thanks for sharing I love it that would look so nice so stay safe stay warm have fun enjoy life enjoy what you do the quilting the crafting everything is life is too short not to so lots of loads and hugs to you and your families 💜💜🙏🙏🤠🤠
Possibly my favourite video from you so far. And that is really saying something. To watch Anna's real reactions, whilst you taught, was delightful. It made me smile the entire way through. Thank you x
I soooo love this! You two are a JOY to watch! I am hooked on your relaxing, informative and learning channel….Even the sipping tea and reading and views and cleaning the cabinets! EVERYTHING!❤❤
So much fun watching the process. This block offers so many interesting design options. I can't wait to see what Anna comes up with for her fabric choices. That is usually the most challenging part of the process for me. But still enjoyable!
Kate you are correct about all the fabrics. I have spent a lot of money buying fabric and I love all of them, however I have all this fabric and most of it would be great for cloths but I can’t put it together for quilts. I finally started buying fat quarters and 5 and 10 inch squares. Anna , you are very fortunate to have Kate to help you and you are doing great. Love to all from Brenda
Love your relationship! I had a similar relationship with my mother in law, (sadly no longer with us) she taught me so much and we had so many giggles together too! Also a few too many cups of tea and cakes! 😂. It’s lovely to learn from someone you feel comfortable with. Well done Anna, you’re doing great. I feel your pain re fabric choices. It’s so hard till you make a couple of quilts and can visualise things better. Especially trying new blocks! Look forward to your progress and fun together.
Love watching her learning experience. Pretty much all of this I learned from trial and error. My first fabric purchase was a hot mess! lol Welcome to quilting!
How blessed you are to have such a wonderful daughter-in -law! Anna is the sweetest young woman! What a treasure! It is wonderful to watch you both enjoy quilting and each other. Your son must be blown away with the relationship you and Anna have developed. It is truly a special one! Blessings to your family!💕
Enjoy your new quilting journey Anna. It's a lovely thing to do. I have so many quilts in my head I don't know where to start this year. Thanks for the inspiration Kate. Does Anna know yet it's one of the loveliest rabbit holes to go down & that quilting & collecting fabric are 2 separate hobbies. ☺️
Well done Anna. Just remember that every little boo boo is a lesson learned. I am learning all the time! Whatever you do will be beautiful because you did it yourself.
Lovely watching Anna learning how to make quilt blocks, you are such a teacher I love making blocks and quilts I learnt everything from you tube take care xx
Oh Anna how lucky you are to have such a wonderful mum-in-law mine has been dead umpteen years and she made my life a misery and I hated her then and still do now nothing I did was right. It is lovely to see you working together so happily I am envious of you having such a joyous teacher and love watching you together
This is fascinating! I have never really had much interest in quilting, but to watch you do this was such fun. Yes, a few mistakes were made, but isn't that how we really learn? Making a mistake means you then fully understand what went wrong and can make sure it's right next time. You can see how much Anna is enjoying this as well. Thank you xx
Oh GLORIOUS DAY! - to be ALLOWED to dive into Kate's Stash!! Anna, - you Lucky Duck! How marvelous that we'll get to watch you too! You are very brave to be making your very first practice blocks in front of all us millions of quilters out here! Well done!
It's absolutely delicious to watch how excited Kate gets as she watches Anna sewing. It's such a great feeling to pass on your knowledge to the next generation. Well done both of you!!
Januaryy 26 2024 Maryland USAA: Just love popping in with the two of you. Kate you are such a gentle soul and Anna also. I love how you are coming tto constructing the blocks. It does make sense to purchase precuts from the same company. Constructing out of scrap is great. Now let me grab a cup of tea and sit with two lovely friends. Get cracking!!!!😊
Anna, you are a courageous woman! Learning to quilt LIVE on youtube. Keep up your good work. I am inspired by your learning and your work. I love the way Kate is teaching you. ....so organic..... Thank-you, Anna in sharing your journey! I can't wait to see more. And BIG thank-you to Kate. You are the best. oh...and let's not forget the "Whoa!" moment. So fun. You guys have such a relaxed relationship. -Angèle from Devon, Alberta, Canada :) xxx
What better quilt teacher/mentor could Anna have than you, Kate. What a blessing it is that the two of you enjoy one another’s company so much. It brings me back to the wonderful times spent with my MIL and now that I’m the MIL, my DIL and I have become great buddies with many shared interests. All the quilt block possibilities. I’m eager to see what the final design choice will be. Thanks for taking us along on this journey.
A Stripology XL ruler by Creative Grids is a game changer for cutting 2" strips or for binding strips. It is worth every penny! Anna couldn't have a better teacher to learn to quilt!
Lovely. What fun! Donna and Matt Jordan of Jordan’s Fabrics on RUclips for years have always used dumbbell weights to help hold the ruler down while cutting fabric. Donna makes wonderful tutorials. She and Matt are very kind and generous people. They often make a quilt pattern with video tutorial available free on their website
Anna, how lucky you are to have such a talented teacher for your mum in law! You will learn so much, and your excitement shows. Looking forward to watching next videos. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Kate and Anna, now I am going to have to make a few of these blocks. My oldest daughter just loves purple and blues and greens even in the same piece. I love making her quilts so long as I can find the right colors. Anna, I think you’re doing a great job! Keep stitching.
I happen to love the purples and lilacs, but I'm a bit older. I can't wait to see what Anna chooses for her final quilt and I think she's lucky to have a mother in love who is willing to teach and has patience. It's obvious that you have a great relationship. :) Loving this series.
OH! I meant to suggest that maybe Anna should consider doing the center of her quilt with the "standard" blocks, then using the alternate blocks as a border of sorts.
Go Anna.....all of the frustration comes from choosing the darn colors... LOL no mater how many quilts you make, fabric selection is always the most intensive part of the puzzle. Have fun!
What a lucky girl Anna is, to be taught how to quilt by Kate! So patient & encouraging!! I love to watch the two of you together. Warms the heart for sure! Keep with it, Anna!!
P.S. The fabrics that you are using are my favorite color!!!
😉💜💜💜
Can you just imagine the countless sweet smiles and happy heartbeats among all of us following this quilting journey! Warms my heart!
Yes! Yes! Absolutely thrilling. 🤗🇨🇦
How sweet this is, Kate, you are a wonderful Mother in law!! Anna, you are a sweet daughter in law, blessed to have such a great cheerful teacher!

The whole process, from teacher to apprentice, to choosing fabric and sewing it all together, is just lovely! Way to go, Kate and Anna!
oh, the wonderful things you CAN from your mother-in-law!!!! My mother-in-law is 95 years old, i have learned so much from her.
Loved Anna's "Whoa" moment. So cute. Welcome to the quilting world, Anna. You could add a bit of a border to the sample squares, and make a little doll blanket for Agnes. I bet she would love it.

Good to know! I enjoy learning the origins of our common responses that don’t often make sense. Love getting the meaning which now makes sense. 👍

How exciting and enlightening. Good teacher, good student. Love all the tips and tricks. Marjorie from Georgia US. 🌈👍
I love the secondary block in the dark ones. It looks very modern. Well done Anna and well done to your instructor!!
Love watching you both! So enjoyable, too, to see Anna catch the quilting bug! Blessings to you both.
I just love watching you two! And sharing your passion with someone you love is just lovely!
Good teacher and good student 👍...so much fun to watch and feel like I am right there with you
What a find!! You are unpretentious and a lovely teacher..!!!
That little twist you did at the end gave a fantastic result. My mind is a little bit blown.
Lovely … Anna couldn’t have a better teacher.💕
We’ll done ladies. Have fun Anna. A fantastic journey you’ve started on. Welcome to quilting 🥰
Lots and Lots of choices! I personally love the purple! Have fun Anna and Kate!
Go Anna! Well done! Remember not a mistake, a learning experience towards skill building.👏🏻
Amazing how many different blocks come out of one basic design. And, they all look awesome!!
Have fun!
