    this movie was actually really good. I'm 21 and my dad is 64 and we just randomly decided to see it together because he's a huge De Niro fan and I like Anne Hathaway. I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did. it appeals to both our generations. it's funny but has it's serious moments without being too sad. a great feel good movie:)

      it's interesting about the husband. i mean, it's really hard to have it all, especially when you are married and killing yourself to grow a budding company. to me, i understand his feelings, but c'mon, man, wtf did you expect? but he's killing himself, too, raising a child largely all by himself. i did like that they touched on how a stay-at-home dad can really get caught up on feeling "immasculated" by not working. it can get confusing, even now, in 2018. it takes really strong people who know who they are and understand their parts in the whole, big picture. and yes, both of them need to be selfish and put the phones away, send the interns home, get a babysitter and DO IT UP together to maintain sanity. breaks are just as important as working your ass off!

      Then with De Niro getting with Russo instead of the chick from the beginning I thought was odd. Seemed she was more his speed than Russo.

    • @rustylh733
      @rustylh733 8 лет назад +14

      +Ricky Leung You can't blame some people for hating it because while it was a feel good movie, it was also full of tropes. For instance, Anne going off about how far men have fallen, in a nutshell, and yet the fact is, there are a lot of men out there just like Harrison Ford. Every guy out there is not nerdy, like those three, and at the same time, not every woman is "amazing."
      What was correct about that segment, however, is that for some reason, way too many women can't see what is right in front of their eyes. That there are a lot of great men out there. She was right when she noticed that nobody uses respectful terms to refer to men anymore, and she is right, it should be brought back...terms like Gentlemen. Men should start growing some balls and demand to be treated with respect, while they in turn show others the same respect.
      Quite frankly, the real men out there are tired of Hollywood's love affair with girl power, and the way they overdo it to the point that the men are made to look like buffoons that can't do anything. Well, I have news for you, real men are out there and they aren't buffoons and they make the world go round. We hear the whine that so few women are CEO's. Well, the reality is that this is because so many of those CEOs are guys like Elon Musk, who actually created the company. They create the product or service, and market it, and appoint themselves as CEO. If they go public, they do so only with the condition that they remain CEO. Or they only sell 49% of the company publicly so that they remain the majority stockholder. If they lose the company, they go start a new one.
      Also, like it or not, it is the world men have created, that has allowed the recent surge in "girl power." Overall, it was men that worked to create the world we live in, that is modern, high tech, etc... When I say men, I mean in the overall. Yes there were some women who contributed to that, but before the world was truly modern, most women did not work outside of the home. It was men that built the highways, created the tech, etc.. that allowed the society we have today. I wonder if they would still do it if they could be put in a time machine, brought to now, and shown what their work accomplished. Hate between men and women is at an all time high.
      Did you know that OKCupid used to have a 5 star rating system, that they dumped because the stats, showed that while men rated women on a healthy bell curve, most with 3 stars, fewer with 2 or 4 stars, and even fewer with 1 or 5 stars. However, women rated 80% of men as 2 stars or below. See a problem there? The problem doesn't lie with men, it lies in the perception of men by women.
      You can see this same thing play out in the old movie, Romancing the Stone. The lead woman and her friend go to an upscale bar, and there are a lot of men across the bar from them, and they go down the line finding something to disqualify each and every one of them. This wasn't a rant so much as to just show you that the hate isn't just about this movie. It's about this movie + the larger picture.

She received rave reviews by New York Times, USA Today, etc... You have to be very talented to act on stage and even more so doing a one person play. You will never see JLaw, Natalie Portman, Julia Roberts, Reese Witherspoon, or even Jodie Foster (not a stage actress) do a one person show. Anne is beyond brilliant with massive starpower. One of the best performances I have seen on stage in years.

  • @AlbanZap
    @AlbanZap 8 лет назад +11

    The question she says at the end, "How have men gone from Jack Nicholson and Harrison Ford to -looks at dorky men-". I find really irritating. Western women claim that they like dorky, compassionate, sensitive, some degree of metro-sexuality, humble, nerds and we're bombarded with movies in which a hero that's all that personified, somehow wins the girl. However, lots of studies suggest that women are attracted to very manly, even aggressive/strong, dominant men - it only makes sense from a evolutionary standpoint. So when someone says 'how have men gone this way', the answer is they're aspiring to be attractive to what modern women pretend they like.
    I don't know what my point was, I just feel that people seem to hate the current generation of young 20-something men, like we're constantly being told 'oh men have been such bastards for the last century', so when men evolve into these limp, dorky, sensitive guys women look at them in disgust and yearn for some manly men, who they would probably label misogynist if they thought about it for a second. Poor fuckers can't win.

      Or maybe it was an intentional hidden message about feminists or feminazis . Since in kinda every movie from this last decade there are many of these messages . Also the generation hate is real in real life and is well portrayed in the movie . All new generations ( not all ) thinks they're superior because they have internet are young with some new ideas , they complain about too much and what not and always needs new technologies that we can't even enjoy to it's finest . Remove all their Smartphones, Tablets, Computers they all will cry like babies . The only interest in the whole movie is Robert De Niro without him the movie would suck , i didn't even recognized Rene Russo go figure .

    It's definitely not a comedy as it is advertised. It's a feel-good movie, it's a happy movie that makes you happy. It has some sad parts but it has one of the best endings out of all recent "comedy" movies. The acting is great, the pacing is just as it is supposed to be in this kind of films and the cast is as close to perfection as it gets. This is up for debate but, in my opinion this is one of De Niro's best performances.
