  • Full Western Movie, Full Length Cowboy Film, English, 1955: White Feather (original title), Rated 6, Runtime 1h 42min, History, Western.
White Feather is a 1955 Technicolor CinemaScope western film directed by Robert D. Webb and starring Robert Wagner. The movie was filmed in Durango, Mexico. The story is based on fact; however, the particulars of the plot and the characters of the story are fictional.
In 1877 Wyoming, during the peace negotiations between the Cheyenne and the USA, an Indian girl falls in-love with a land surveyor, causing the ire of her Cheyenne fiance.
Director: Robert D. Webb (as Robert Webb)
Writers: Delmer Daves (screenplay), Leo Townsend (screenplay)
PLOT (Wikipedia): The story of the peace mission from the US cavalry to the Cheyenne Indians in Wyoming during the 1870s. The Cheyenne agree to leave their hunting grounds so that white settlers can move in to search for gold. Colonel Lindsay (John Lund) and land surveyor Josh Tanner (Robert Wagner)[n 1] are in charge of the resettlement, but the mission is threatened when Appearing Day (Debra Paget),[n 1] the sister of Little Dog (Jeffrey Hunter) and fiancé of Cheyenne tribesman American Horse (Hugh O'Brian), falls for Tanner. When Appearing Day runs away to join Tanner at the fort, American Horse follows and while he is captured, he is later freed by Little Dog and the two ride off to the hills. Tanner, Col. Lindsay and a troop of soldiers go to the Cheyenne camp where Chief Broken Hand (Eduard Franz) has agreed to sign a peace treaty. After the signing, a warrior rides up and throws down a knife with a white feather attached, a declaration of war by American Horse and Little Dog against all the soldiers. Tanner convinces the Chief to allow the matter to be resolved between themselves.

🍁 I am 10% native, Born on traditional Blackfoot Land, at Calgary, AB CA. There are 9 First Nation bands in Alberta. Including, Siksika, Piikani, Kainai, Iethka Stoney Nakoda, Chiniki, Bearspaw. Good Stoney, and Tsuut'ina . Although I have never considered myself Native (Scots-English) I carry that small 10% with some pride. And was even born on September 22 the same day the meetings began at, Blackfoot Crossing. Where Treaty # 7, was signed. Although this is a movie and Cannot really tell the whole story, It still brought a tear to this old Calgarians Eye. My British father also taught me to fish and hunt. And respect the land. 🍁🌄

Yeah, so mean, why was there was not "one" Indian tribe since the Indians were so peaceful? Why have "warriors". Because the Indian culture was a wayfaring society that constantly fought for lands from each other. Some of their games were even deadly. Anyone that thinks Indians were just peaceful hippies didn't/don't know much history.

The main enemies of the Comanches were the Pawnees, Osages, Arapaho, and Apaches. Although the five Comanche bands were independent of one another, they often came together to fight a common enemy (as was the case with many battles against the Apaches, who sought to gain land, horses, and captives).

I made it through the part where Josh had been arranging Little Bears 🐻 body, but I always lose it anytime I hear Taps played. There’s just so much finality in that sound and conversely, so much beauty.

Robert Wagner, did an amazing job acting out the preparation of his Native Indian friend’s body. I found myself crying as he did this because of the compassion and respect you show to his friend.
I lived in Wichita Kansas for over 25 years. I took my children to many Native American Indian powwows in Kansas and Oklahoma, and we went to the museums where they showed the treaties that American soldiers lied, and did not hold to their signatures on the papers that were signed. I often explain to My children how many western cowboy movies are misleading because the Indians, for the most part different tribes were different, they just wanted to be treated fairly and have the treaties. Actually, this out what they said, but instead, how are soldiers cannot give them the food or blankets and clothing. They deserved according to the treaties, breaking it time after time. And they gave them the poorest quality land that they , the Indians, were expected to live on, but yet the land was so barren and poor soil, that they couldn’t even call your own food to eat. My heart goes out to your native American Indians, and while I am only partially Indian, my heart feels so deeply about them miss use of government funds, and the lies and abuse that was shown to the Native American Indians, as many tribes. It is America’s shame. Do you know how we treated wonderful native American Indians!!
Robert Wagner did a wonderful job on this movie, as did the actress who played the Native American Indian… She was so beautiful and I’m glad Roberts Character married her. I wished I could hear this story and others from their mouth. I have learned to try to read only that book which is written by a true. native American Indian. Their word is what I believe after reading so many broken promises by our own country. In fact, they still do that stuff politically, but the average American is ever told what goes on behind the s political meetings and paper signing!!
Thank you for making the movie available to us on RUclips.

WOW! Great movie, enjoyed it very much! The courage and restraint shown by both the Cavalry and the Native Americans did astonish (unlike the typical western)! A lesson today's leadership could learn from. Too much greed and corruption rooted in leadership; historically and present, the world over, and human lives tend to be worthless.

Too bad the Native Indians didn't win.
I'd much prefer their way of life, compared to our souless modern way.
Even as a longtime vegetarian, I see no fault with how the animals were hunted and consumed by them. They always showed the upmost respect for the animal and only killed when necessary, not like modern man which maintains slaughterhouses and kills by the billions.

I too was teared as I watched the ending. My "feminine' side, I guess. And more powerful since it was true! Love in peace is more powerful than war. Being "dressed up" for their death reminded me of the Spartans, warriors too, who always primped before battle.

History is full of stories like this. Culture and values are often stormed or annihilated by brute forces and sufferings. God had been hardly of any help other than formal enslavement of those who suffered.

@@Thecircustapes I know what you are talking about, because I feel the same as you. What the white men done to those Indians is a very shameful thing. They took everything away from the native Indians. Every time they got lied too and betrayed by the white men, I always cry. They were not savages, not till they had no choice. Every men will protect their loved ones. I never hated anyone in my life, but watching these movies makes me hate what was done to those Indians.

I saw Robert Wagner on at least one occasion. In the mid to late 1980's. He was crossing the street by himself in Westwood, CA. I think it was Westwood Blvd near Le Conte, up by the small theater there, the Geffen Playhouse, one day. Maybe he was just at the theater. A few people recognized him most likely. There weren't that many around, but he just smiled pleasantly and went about his business.
