Shi No Numa was scary as fuck for me. I shat my pants at the Minecraft cave sounds, but I went 6 feet under when I heard the ambience for Verruckt, (stopped playing verruckt on round 8 due to some zombie bolting ape shit at me…) and Shi No Numa fucked me up for the corpses.
this is the only zombeis map where the ambience gives me chills, like even the fact that 1:25 sounds happy makes it even more unsettling in the theme of Verruckt, the off tune notes make it sound like the definition of insanity
I just found out about this one last night while watching a video about waw and I’m like, “wait, how the fuck have I missed this?” And it completely changes my fear for the map, even worse.
It already have three not one, A-the ABSOLUTE suffocating silent . Which make the player terrifying at it. B-The sound of the zombies afar who running into you. C-The sound of broken window and walls as they’re all hell broke into you
Coming back to this reminds me of how scary games like these can be even though technically waw is not a horror nor is other games like half - life 2 but its crazy how back in them days games like that made you feel uneven, uncertain, uncomfortable.
The faded gray textures in most old games and the uncanny low polygon characters definitely help, it's hard to imagine a modern game with good textures ray tracing and such to be genuinely disturbing
Damn I remember selecting this map solo with headphones and it always terrified me so I always tell my buddies to come over and play with me so that I feel safe but still the terrifying noise of the screams and the fact that the game spawns you and your buddies in each different room and you have to use various ways just to get together was so scary
I fucking love the ambiance for this map. The screams from the mentally insane as they sit alone or while they're being medicated on is terrifying. The thought that it's abandoned but you can still hear the screams from the damned is a terrifying thought
I know I am years late but I still think nacht takes the cake. I think mainly because the sounds aren't obvious and are just weirder, it also has an uneasy vibe and not a creepy vibe which makes the map more eerie.

@@Christian-97 Kino was the last to have the forboding feeling like WaW (for obvious reasons,) but the deep-seated creepy aspects stuck around until moon. Moon really is the closest to the original five to me. Like the original five maps, moon also feels like everything could just stop at any second. I think the hardware that WaW and Bo1 ran on also really added to it. You haven't had the full zombies experience, until you're playing kino alone at 2 am and the game freezes so you are left with the last ambient zombie sound playing on a loop in eerie isolation. Man, I would actually have loved it if the zombie devs had put in some five nights at freddy's jumpscare shit. Like, one of out every 1000 times you start verruckt, it just gives you a closeup of a zombie face playing the PA music and you have to restart the console.
I didn't remember pa system for a while but now that I'm hearing it all the terrifying memories of me playing verruckt when I was like 8 are all coming back.

pa_system_00 plays when you turn on the power. You can hear it well on the balconies where the traps in WAW and BO1. In BO3 you can hear it a lot better at the spawn rooms.
Dang where are all these people. Like seriously Richtoften, Dempsey, Nikolai, and Takeo are all roaming around the map in every room shooting zombies, spitting one liners, and repairing barriers and not the people or the crew think to find one another like damn

Nah Nacht's zombie sounds weren't as good as Verruckt, they just sound like barking dogs in comparison

A lot of it is the old style, I feel like old games just have scarier vibes to them, even sometimes if they aren’t meant to be scary.
