Many pianists play upright pianos due to their intimacy, in addition to size and price. I play Yamaha uprights because of the quality and also availability. Their are better pianos out there I'm sure, although for the size and price, they are certainly competitive.
Wait you ranked Yamaha above Blüthner? Yamaha totally sucks as a Piano brand they have manufactured many Flawed Pianos & never issued recalls to correct their flawed designs Yamaha Upright Pianos to Avoid: 1. Yamaha M1A- Known for tuning instability and subpar sound quality. 2.Yamaha M1- Similar issues as the M1A with tuning and sound. 3. Yamaha U1 (pre-1970s)- Older models tend to have worn-out components that affect performance. 4. **Yamaha U3 (pre-1970s)** - Older versions can suffer from the same problems as the early U1 models. Many of their Piano's the Recoil spring's would fail & detach & to go thru the process of repairing & gluing in replacements can take 8 hours to complete not counting the tear down & Cleaning & Yamaha left customers to foot the Bill for repairs on their own & that is unforgivable i would never buy a used Yamaha much less a new one
You make valid points about the U1s and U3s, although they are some of the most available pianos. Other than Yamaha and Kawai, many of the other brands mentioned are harder to come by and can be pricey. Not all Kawais are perfect either, from what I understand.
I have a used Kawai K-30 upright piano and I am very pleased with it.
I love bluthner brand upright piano.. it sizable and sounds great
I have a Feurich 133 concert upright piano and I am very pleased with it.

It would be nice if German names could be properly pronounced

One of the best uprights out there, if you can find one and have it delivered reasonably.
