The vast majority of service members vote republican, and in general despise the federal government. The oath is to defend the people and the constitution, not the federal government.

Not to mention the fact that the majority of Voting-age Americans are Democrats. The Republicans would have an advantage in zealous supporters and people trained in shooting guns, but many Republicans and most true independents would not fight against the U.S government. This would weaken the Republicans even if they had an advantage in military personnel, which is doubtful. And in the long term, the Democrats would hold an advantage, as older people of non-military age tend to be more Republican, while Democrats could draw on reserves of young people.

If it fails it could lead to many things, that’s why usually events in the U.S are so important because if something goes wrong in our nation that means it could have a ripple effect worldwide.
If one nuke goes off then that could start a nuclear war.
If the U.S can no longer produce or buy due to economic problems then the world would loose out in a massive consumer nation.

Curiously enough, Biden had a greater approval rating than Trump among the military as of October 2020. I would imagine the approval of Trump was going to be much lower amid his insistence to keep trying to overturn the election. I may be wrong, but I believe the military does in fact put the Constitution first.
