Hi Brian - I would say they are similar in most ways. Both are top-tier systems. The Airmax would likely be quieter. The vertex is potentially more efficient. We looked at the brand some years back but at the time they wanted exclusivity and we wouldn't do that. I prefer to offer choices...and all the aerators we have now are different from one another, some are better priced, some more efficient, some more quiet. Vertex is a good brand but there are many of those around now. Let me know more about your goals with the aerator, your priorities, and a bit more about the pond (size and depth) and I'd be happy to offer some specific suggestions on what I would consider.
