When we bought our new house 5 years ago it came with a pea soup pond. Similar situation, the husband had passed away and the wife just threw in food once a day. No cleaning, no maintenance... I started cleaning and caring for the fish 3 months before we moved in. They have come on a treat since then and the pond is on Evolution 3 now...!

my mom sold her house that we grew up in, she had a pond built (10k plus, money was from after my stepfather passed away) and idk how this pond looks anymore. Sometimes i just want to stop by and look. Idk if that would be weird lol. Its full of goldfish and kois, they have to be massive by now but it was a beautiful pond with rocks and a waterfall in memory of my stepfather.

Ngl, liquid algae or the Solid algae could be use for aquatic things. Tips : Solid algae (that algae you can touch and hold with your fingers) can be used as tillapia bait.. or you could use it as brushmouth or some herbivore fishes. Since its cheap and easy to reproduce.
The fish have probably done well because no one has added chemicals to the pond in a long time and they have managed to rebuild their immune system. I’ve not used chemicals in over 20 years, it does wonders for the health of the fish.
Looks a 100% better, done a great job without replacements, have you asked the new owners to give them to someone, then use the the pond as a water feature instead, it would be ashame if anything happened to them, and I'm sure the late owner would to.
Certainty hasn’t been done for a while , is their no rescue places or someone that has a pond around that area who could take them , with the filter and water that rotten will take a few regular cleans to get water parameters back to what they should be
And seeing the algae green sludge and pond water = the UV-C mercury vapour tube (algae killing clarifier on the side of the filter) has died/worn-out and needs replacing/has been left switched off
@@millerturq4418 Translation attempt: UV-C lamp not working for some reason, causing algae buildup. I have a similar setup, it usually doesn't get this bad, unless the lamp doesn't work for some reason.

İ'm new at this so feel free to add any info that can be useful to me. 1- if the pump is set too high than the pond can take, the UV won't do its job. 2- algae will grow if the pond is exposed to the sun. Plants and good shade will solve the problem.

I wonder who is responsible for the property. Is it either relatives or a faceless legal entity, because those look like koi which could be quite valuable; if the colours aren't too bad. I'm surprised the fish weren't valued with the house or at least a new owner found like would happen if the guy kept a dog and not fish.

Aren’t there animal cruelty laws that demand a certain minimal level of care for domestic animals? Maybe fish don’t count. Even without considering the fish, I think you’d have public health officials on you for something like this in the US.
Pond looks pretty normal tho, it looks like that in the wild, not all lakes are crystal clear... I mean you definitely don't want too much ammonia but everything else looks fine. The fish are also not gasping for air which means that they're getting enough oxygen

Hey, just a quick word on that high pressure sponge cleaning: I am pretty sure that there is a lot of potentially harmful bacteria in such a biodegrading environment, and using that pressure cleaner, you likely carry those into your eyes and mouth and lungs. You should probably consider wearing at least some small layer of protection in your face, to prevent inhaling constant hits of E.coli. Enjoyed the cleaning a lot though, well done man!
Hi Adam Just after abit of advice really Been away and the pump packed in. The bio media has been static for 2 weeks now. New pump arrived wondering what’s best to start back up before installing new pump. The air pumps have been still running and Bakki shower.

I wonder where he put the plastic caps of the filters. As I own the 60000 Screenmatic I know how helpful these caps are. I think the water pump is underpowered, the bypass setting (I guess it's at 10.000l/h) in the UV-C cleaner seem to be wrong, too. This is no more than 8.000l/h resulting in less effectiveness. Poor fishes!

Don't go back. My old house had a very large pond that i loved and the new owners let the trees overgrow the area and now it's just bog.
