Thank you for this tutorial. I've been mixing for a long time but mainly dealt with vocals and electronic / digital production. I have a client who has asked me to mix their live drums and this tutorial gave me a few extra things to think about and gave me some very solid tips. You da man, GOD BLESS YOU, BROTHER!
I literally learnt something in the first 2 minutes. I literally came into this thinking.... pssst Ive been mixing drums for my videos for forever! I probably know all he's gonna talk about. Solid lesson my dude! Thanks!
This is probably the most useful mix video I’ve ever seen. Don’t get me wrong, Nolly’s tips are amazing but just working with base level, no third party extras, this really just pays dividends. Keep em coming man!
Great tutorial. I like your “less is more” approach. The plethora of videos out there on available plugins & mastering can get overwhelming sometimes to some of us amateur newbie home-engineers out there and this is great. Implemented the drum kick track duplication method you posted in this or another video - game changer. Thanks man!
I just had a set of mics and interface arrive over the last few days and set them up just yesterday. I'd no idea how to mix drums or any form of audio files for that matter and your video has been a huge help. Thank you so so much man! :)
I just started recording my own drums with mics on Logic, and this gave me soooo many ideas! Thank you so much dude. I subbed for sure. If there are any single videos I can buy related to drums, let me know. I subbed as well. Thanks so much for this!
Love the info in the vid and I like that your are doing things in real time but it would be helpful for my eyes for you to maybe do some post editing and magnify certain things when you are tweaking knobs and making adjustments to make it easier on the viewers eyes
Great content Yaahn and Thank You for your channel! I am new to recording my live drums and could use some suggestions on how to set up the template before even getting to the mixing phase, Do you have any videos on mic techniques and creating template? Thanks!
Do you always hard pan the Tom’s? I still feel softer pan feels more real… the hard left/right hits of the Tom’s feels a little unreal to me… thoughts?
also while I’m here… I used a an extra mic for a sub-bass outside the kick, just basically on a pillow right up at a wall… then just boomed the crap out it with eq and that seemed to give the pulse an extra pump… thoughts on sub-basses?
@@ememc2093 Depends on the record. I come from a fusion/gospel background using 3-5 toms. It's common to hard pan toms in Gospel specifically.. Other genres may vary.
Great Video! Can you show us how to mic your drums? Im not new to the drum mics I just know there are others that would benefit from how you mic your drums for a good mix. Thanks in advance!
You have a great drum sound even before you start mixing ! , I have the best drums , best mics , my snare is always muffled and nasal , very very difficult to get a great snare sound , you should do a video on snare setup and mic’s , tuning etc . Nice video .
@@Yhuntermusic Thanks very much , lots of tips there , I’ll try them out tomorrow! , the 3 finger spacing is very interesting , I’ve always been told to put the mics as close to the heads as possible , clearly the wrong advice , I’ll get into it tomorrow in the studio . Many thanks again .

Which is better logic or studio one for drums?

Just out of curiosity what sort of gain level for your mics do you record your entire kit at?
