Your video inspired me to do this hike when I first viewed it. Finally made it back to Oahu last Sept and did this hike. This is a fantastic hike. Be prepared, there are a couple points with ropes to climb the very steep ridges. It was pouring rain on this section when I came down, just for an extra bit of fun. (I've seen in the news that the haiku stairs will soon be removed by the county gov.)
There was a way to go from the Water Shed area, but things changed and I can't find the trail. I was told most people go on the middle trail (the one you're on) #3 trail can go up, but to me too dangerous. But can most likely see things.

too late. they are in the process of taking down the stairs. the moanalua path has taken a beating over the years. too much erosion.
