Thank you, my friend. It was the ignition I did What you said wiggles the key. I like the part we're said don't panic, just chill. It worked thank you.
Do not assume that just because your battery reads 12.5-ish volts that it's good. I can tie two 9v batteries together into one 18V battery and it couldn't hope to turn any car over but would more than pass this test. Cranking amps matter too. In my experience, 99% of the time a battery has reached end of life, it will still take a charge and read north of 12V... it isn't until you *put a load on it* that it shows its health. Your average brick and mortar auto parts store has a proper automotive battery charger/tester with proper load testing that you can use for free.
Mine did this today. Would not start to go home from work. Going to check if CPS is working. Car was cranking but no fuel. Tank was low. Maybe fuel pump bad. Everything else is new in the car and working as intended. Thanks man!!

I got to the immobilizer under the driver seat and I checked the fuse in it. the fuse looked good BUY I replaced it anyways and the car still won't start BUT I noticed that the immobilizer was changed before there is a company name on there and writing that it was replaced or rebuilt in 2017... I'm trying to get ahold of those people on the number for info..ALSO I check fuses on the driver side kick panel... And the E1 fuse in the fifth column is popped ... I replaced it with another 7.5 and it popped again then I replaced it with a number 10 fuse and that also popped everytime I try to start the car or maybe every time I reconnect the battery plus I keep taking off the negative terminal before I replace the fuse...... So I guess something in the E1 fuse box is the problem ? Because the fuse keeps popping ?
Great Video. The problem I have right now is as starting issue with warm engine. Engine turns over but only starts at 4th try. I changed the Crankshaft Position sensor, unfortunately I still have the problem. Any idea what it could be? Other than that car drives normal.
Most likely the cable from the alternator / starter. 99660701903 or 99660701901 is what you need to replace. The 03 is for newer 996, the 01 for 98-02 models. Very common and often misdiagnosed as faulty starter motor
Mikey Rozell pull your drivers seat and check the fuse (15) that is plugged into the immobilizer unit. Also see if the immobilizer shows ant signs of wetness. Let me know!

@@fjnicholas3145 thinking the head may be damaged, a new key head is like $300 if I recall.
I sincerely appreciate your expertise; my car has been in a shop for a week, now I know what's wrong. Check is in the mail.
My 2002 996 is trying to start but won't turn over. Any ideas what it could be? Maybe a fuel pump relay?
I've got a 97 boxter. My break light came on. I got new breaks and the Mach said the sensor that tells you you need breaks was broken. Replaced that but the light is still on ????
Hi Brian, thank you for this very helpful video ! so my story is I have a 987.1 cayman S, so every time I try to start must turn key to the on off cycle 2 to 3 times before it will finally crank and start, it will never crank on the first turn, battery has been replaced, any thoughts would be helpful , Thanks ! Always nervous that car won’t crank when ever I drive it.
Jim I would replace your ignition switch!! I carry a spare with me always!
Excellent troubleshooting sequence and probable cause tracing. It does help one understand and not be afraid of finding out causes and effects. The repair people in Florida you mentioned are great. I have used them on my 914/911 conversion in repairing DMEs, etc. Great info and now to build a emergency kit for my Boxster S
Steve thanks for your kind words and for taking time to watch the video. Let me know if you have suggestions for future videos!
Thanks 😊. Where have you been. You guys rock!!
Glad the video helped you out Noe, thanks for watching!
hi Brian, great video thank you. Is there a fuel pump relay to check?
The fuel pump relay is under the dash in the first relay block, it’s a little square pink one. Kinda a bear to get to...
Now i am driving a Cayenne turbo. But we are looking now for a 996 c4s.
Right on, just like me my next Porsche will be a 996 C4S as well! Thanks for watching
Great info thanks and well done. Where is the link for your ER kit??? I'm getting ready to make a 2400 mile trip so it would be helpful.
Great video. You really know your stuff 👍🏻😊😎
Keep pushing your channel. 👍🏻
Thank you, I will
My 986 is only starts when I push it and drop it on first, I got a new battery, I bypass the clutch safety and checked the fuses. Any idea what could be wrong? I’m literally lost
It could be a bad starter :(
My 2002 Boxster sat for a few weeks over the winter without a battery tender. The battery ran down and the Porsche wouldn't start. I took the 9-month-old Interstate battery to the nearest dealer and they charged it for me. I put the battery back in and the Boxster now cranks but won't start. I have checked fuses in the footwell fusebox, but don't have any bad fuses. Ideas?
Try the starter relay hack, if it cranks then it’s your alarm/immobilizer thanks for watching
How to start porche boxer with the key?
Oh I wish I could... that would be pretty sweet. Working on building a 400 and use those 6x4 heads on it.
Great video Brian! awesome content!
There’s another way I Managed to turn my Porsche cayman I put the car In neutral and at the same time I put the key ignition to turn on and while with that I press on the break and press the gas and boom it turned on
Just installed a new IMS bearing in my 2000 Boxster S. Also replaced expansion tank, water pump and thermostat while I had it all open. Put it back together and it cranks but won't start! Had the battery disconnected the whole time. Alarm system is working, radio code needs resetting. OBDII says P0343 Camshaft position (CMP-) sensor A, bank 1 - high input. Any suggestions?
Follow the steps on this video ruclips.net/video/ZSmehtE8Ctk/видео.html
@@ArrowheadGarage Hi Brian, Thanks for responding, none of these steps were successful unfortunately. Checked all the fuses as well. Switched the relays for fuel pump. The engine cranks and cranks but won't fire. Although it did give a very weak firing twice, but so weak I'm not even sure. I had the entire exhaust system out and then put back in while doing the IMS bearing, also I forgot to mention new clutch and RMS. Passenger side is seeping a little fuel from the manifold, buy not from the gasket, from 2 of the pipes right where they join the mounting plate. Huh, weird right? I'm guessing the fuel pump is working just no spark. When cranking the tach moves up slightly. Any thoughts?
@@petermancini906 you can rent a fuel pressure tester for free at most auto parts stores... test it.. then I would look at your plugs/coil packs. Just to make sure, pull the drivers seat and make sure that little box is DRY! Let me know what you find out.
That's going to be very painful! I just tried with the second key (not in use due to same problem)
removed the PILL from the working Flashing Fob, and no circuit in the plastic casing I inserted this PILL, but the engine starts and work, in other way the circuit has nothing to do with the immobiliser, Am I correct? or it has connected with the passenger side movement sensor up on the roof? as mentioned before there was a Durometric code obtained last week;
**Code 42 Wrong key or Wrong Transponder PILL?
**Code 33 Passenger Compartment Monitoring Sensor, long -test Fault.
I am absolutely confused......
I would start testing the wiring from the starter, it's smarter
Thats a another good idea, thanks for sharing!
Key will not turn in ignition, can not manually start it.
Sounds like you have a Bad ignition switch, replace it.
what would cause it not to start but it will turn over but just wont start and it has 1/2 tank of gas
could be a few thigns, try the second key if you have it... then has the car had any water leaks?
@@ArrowheadGarage no it's dry as a bone I had it started and was checking some messages on my phone and it died from a steady normal idle . I tried to start it back up and it won't start it will turn over all day long but just won't fire up. If it were the ignition coils it would usually start but run like crap. I can't hear a fuel pumping noise when I turn on the key .
I can hear the fuel pump buzzing like it's working
One more thing to check, cycle the key in the door lock cylinder with the door closed.
Thanks a good tip Richardo! Thanks for watching!!!
@@ArrowheadGarage I am talking from experience with a customer stuck in Watkins Glen. lol. You are welcome. Ricardo

Hello, I have a 1999 Boxster and my speedometer has no lights turned on when I turn my ignition. No nothing it’s like it’s not receiving any power. Something is up with the electronics. Could anyone help me
Thanks in advance
Thanks you. This is very informative!
Glad you liked it and hope it helps down the road for you. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment man!
Hi Brian,
Do you have any experience on 911 2.2 with Weber’s ?
A little bit, worked on a 68 911 with them, what’s going on? And thanks for watching!
Battery cables are installed upside down.
Need help !!!!!
What’s going on with your Porsche?
Got a 2007 Porsche Boxster S, slow to start, weak start
First make sure your battery is fully charged, these Porsches are HUGE on having every little bit of volts from the battery to run.
My keys don't work for trunk/lock. HELP!!!!
Try using your key to lock and unlock the drivers door. If this doesn't fix the truck buttons on the key, change batteries.. if still not working... might be time for a new keyhead.
Brilliant video
Great video. GREAT!!!!.
God bless you sir!
Just being honest! #truth
Nice video. Once you diagnosed it, were you able to get it running temporarily, to get it somewhere to replace the starter? Also, at 9:20 you talk about a link to a video of your "emergency tool kit" supplies. Can you please provide that link? Thanks!
Hi guys im Tony from the uk this is a very useful video i had this issue in my 2001 996 tiptronic cabriolet and it turned out to be my alarm ecu that had got wet from blocked roof drains that had flooded the rear passenger floor and soaked the ecu underneath the passenger seat a common issue apparently so i dried the carpets took out the ecu and found green corrosion so i cleaned the circuit board and plugs with wd40 took it in the house and put it on the radiator over night to try and dry it off the next day put it back on and the car started fine and drives as normal so far so good so give that try before spending a fortune on a new alarm and immobiliser ecu it mite save you a fortune i did notice that when i unlocked the car the door curtesy lights did not come on until the ecu was working correctly so that might be sign that your issue might be the ecu so check and see if your carpet is wet if so check your ecu it only seems to be on the cabriolets though as the roof drains get blocked and need cleaning they are behind the rear wheel arch cover and will be full of mud so clean them out regular if the ecu works put your ecu in zip lock plastic bag it will help keep the ecu dry and the issue returning a bit ugly but better than the cost of a new ecu as you will need to buy an ecu and key alarm fob and have to pay them to be reprogrammed in the uk costs around £450 for ecu £180 for key fob and around £100 for a Porsche engineer to program not sure about US prices hope this helps anyone
I believe some aftermarket companies sell a watertight case/cover for the ECU which would be worth the investment over replacing the whole unit.
I tried using wd-40 on mine and it was too far gone :( but great tip for the future!!
Ps....fyi..."pumping" the clutch has absolutely no effect on starting the car
Sometimes you can free up the clutch switch by doing so.
@@ArrowheadGarage hi I have the exact same problem you show in the video .... On a 99. 996 911 automatic transmission convertible..... I checked and tried everything you showed in the video... Even had a mechanic friend put a jumper wire in the starter relay.... The car finally started to crank the car finally cranked whth the jumper wire but no start.... I replace the relay with a new one and everything is still the same way no crank no....... My friend checked power to the switch which we have.... Power to the starter you hear the fuel pump kick on when you turn switch.... So all that seems good I know the starter is not jammed up cuz the the car did crank...... I don't know what else to look for any other ideas please help I've been stranded 5 days with out the car running ...... Does the immobilizer have a fuse or anyting under the driver seat that could maybe be changed ? Or any help would be appreciated thanks
@@johnsnow2650 yes there is a fuse under the seat… check that… do you have an extra key? If so try that… if not then the sounds like the immobilizer is fried :-(
@@ArrowheadGarage I have an extra key .. but not to crank the car it's just the key fob .... I'm going to try tomorrow and take out the driver's front seat can you let me know exactly what fuse I'm looking for and where is it at ,? I would appreciate it
Update today....
@djhulstijn thank you for your answer, the problem was a faulty fuel pump
thank you
You're welcome, if you have questions let me know.
WOW
Thanks for watching
turns over ocational no start.
Go thru the list again and let me know what year and model you have.
I have a 01 986 auto no crank no crank no start
Mikey Rozell pull your drivers seat and check the fuse (15) that is plugged into the immobilizer unit. Also see if the immobilizer shows ant signs of wetness. Let me know!
Hey Brian I did some research on it prior to getting it and I checked that it was corroded so I went ahead and replaced that well took the starter off today and went to take it apart and several pieces came out so starter is bad but when key is on I get no fuel pump and no power to starter the immobilizer I bought was said to work and I checked new immobilizer for water damages did seemed fine but still had no crank no start no ignition power to the starter and no fuel pump car was pretty much free
It’s an automatic too
Also the key came with the pill in it but didn’t have the buttons
Get the starter replaced then try the starter relay hack. If she spins then your immobilizer sounds like the issue. :-(
Brian, thanks for spending the time making this vid and writing it out, you saved me a Porsche service call. Send me your cash app address I’ll send you some love. Thanks my man. Was the key fob battery.
Sweeeeeet!!!! I am glad I saved you a few coins man! Thanks so much for watching and commenting!!!!
