I have been following you since the beginning of your work in Italy. I eagerly await your weekly video, and I never miss it. I'm not alone; my best friend in Denmark does the same. I appreciate how you speak sparingly, allowing us to hear the sounds around you. I admire your respect for insects, always setting them free by opening the window, and your chickens that sometimes seem to trustingly follow you. Most importantly, I love that you choose classical music and avoid songs. You tell everything without words and on your shoulder, through images. Congratulations! I'm writing to you from Peru.
I've been battling depression for the past 8 years. I've been following your journey for almost a year now, and whenever I find it difficult to keep going, I always look forward to your new beautiful videos. Seeing you so motivated and hardworking inspires me to push forward and pursue my dreams. Hopefully, one day I'll be able to afford to move somewhere closer to nature and gradually make it my home; in this aspect, our goals aren't that different, I suppose. You are doing an amazing job both in your work and presenting it in such a cinematic way. I hope you have a beautiful Sunday, Martijn!☮
There are many of us who battle this disease - not that that helps you much. Stay active - find one small thing a day that makes you smile and think about that before you go to sleep. My very best wishes to you.
Martijn once said 'If you do nothing today, tomorrow will be exactly the same'. Sometimes you need to do nothing to find the energy for tomorrow, but overall I gave found that quote motivating 😊
It's not surprising Geppo & Martijn are friends - they are both building beautiful stone homes, they both appreciate old timber, eating outdoors, both are fastidious in arranging their tools and are happy to feed visitors who roll their sleeves up.
7:25 you have a butterfly at your rooftop looking in on you. 😊 Martijn I don’t know about the fleas you have in Italy, but my experience in US is the fleas would not stay where there is no food source. If your critters are gone and have been gone for a while now from your cabin I wouldn’t think they would still be there with nothing to feed on. I say this just as FYI, could your bites be coming from yard or tent? Be careful with flea bites and working around their feces. You can get diseases, some from bites and some from inhaling their dried feces. You really should wear mask when you are brushing the fine stuff off stones. Protect your lungs! 💚 from Texas
I also live in northern Italy, on the plain, & we have an insect called papataci. Otherwise known as sand fleas. They look more like smaller mosquitoes, bite is really allergenic, & they can carry leishmania. I just bought a 20 kilo bag of diatomaceous earth & it works great! Also, Martijn, be careful of those giant wasps, calibrone. I had a nest in a chimney, had a heck of a time getting someone to put wire netting over it because they’re so dangerous. That said, your videos bring me such pleasure, & joy seeing your progress. Thank you for sharing this journey.
I had a wood-floored home where fleas were a problem every summer, even though we had no pets. My baby daughter was still crawling, so I didn’t want to fumigate as I didn’t want the chance of toxic residue on any surfaces. I sprinkled diatomaceous earth everywhere and made sure to sweep it into the cracks between the floorboards. We never had fleas ever again, even in the summer months. (It also works just as well for ants or cockroaches!)
Your Dad probably told you, if you break off the tip of the main stem of the tomato plant when it reaches as tall as you want it to be, it will stop getting any taller and concentrate on fruit production. Also, on the tomato's, if you begin removing the "suckers" (a stem that begins right in the "crotch" -- the very center of a "V" between a leaf vine and the main vine-- you can control the density (volume) of the plant. Those "suckers" are literally another main vine so the plant begins to get very "thick" if they are all left in place. Actually, if you let the sucker get to a reasonable size, it will root and become a new plant if you burry its end in dirt. It takes a couple of weeks with lots of water but it works. That flea problem is nasty and can be dangerous since they can carry disease from the animal they were on.
Maybe you haven’t thought about it but when you put mortar in your walls, if there is a mouse in that hole that can’t get out and it dies won’t there be a smell? Maybe a few mouse traps first
Some of what you said is true but an indeterminate tomato and a determinate are very different. I have had cherry tomatoes that grew to more than 8' tall with many branches.
The cickens need to be treated first against flea infestation, and their shelter needs to be disinfected periodically. Also, I wonder wether the floor boards were once soaked in cow’s urine 😊
That is great advise. I first heard about Diatomaceous on the Mudbuilding blog on critters. It's this natural repellent that justworks it's charms. Thanks for mentioning it.!
and diatomaceous earth is using for chicken house too against fleas ! but inside a house you can't put it ! and when the fleas are inside it s too late ! but they don't come from outside they are already inside with eggs ! Insect smoke bomb are necessary ! I had fleas invasion inside differents houses and believe me : HELL ! insect smoke bomb not only one time !
I just posted the same advice before reading the comments. I buy food grade to make sure it doesn’t have anything else contaminating it. I dust it around the feral cat’s food bowl. They get it on their feet and spread it to the rest of their bodies.
Man cannot live on bread alone...an egg will do nicely:) Thank you for supporting the locals. The woodwork will be lovely, I have no doubt. Til next week..bless bless Martjin
You need to get some diatomaceous earth to sprinkle in/around the cabin to help with the bugs. You should also mix it into the dirt of your chicken coop to help them as well:) Greetings from Tucson Arizona.
Ultra dangerous when you breathe it in. We left it for months onward without any result. But afraid of not getting every bit out and getting it into our lungs.
I agree with diatomaceous earth! It works so well! I've used it with fleas before around the house. I use a respirator so as not to breathe it in when it's airborne. I also use it with my chickens.
I'm fascinated with his bread making skills. I'm 77 years old and embarrassed to say I've not made my own bread. YET He makes me feel guilty. Should try that "this winter".
@@sandihandi7831 Hello 🤗Have some fun and experiment! First thing, the quality of your yeast. If you use dry yeast the water should be just a little hotter than your body temp (104 degrees), if it scalds you then it is too hot for yeast. Too room temp and the dry yeast won't activate. Add a tbsp of sugar to the water before the yeast - to give it food to activate. Never put salt in the yeast directly, add the salt to the dry ingredients. Practice your light rolling palm technique to knead the bread. If you are able, acquire a bread pan or cast-iron 6 to 8 qt. Pot with a lid - it will create a nice crust.
My uncle was a master wood craftsman, and my cousin is as well. He is a cabinet maker. I did woodworking as a child and young adult, and recently returned to do more as I have renovated 3 homes recently. It is such a thing of beauty to see such work. Geppo's work is lovely. I so desire to escape the modernity of architectue around me, and move on to something like what I see in N. Italy. They have something special.
Where the road is steepening, i would advice you to do several cuts on the way to dont allow the water to get the speed going and flush all the rocks you just positioned away. I think they also sell cement canals you can dig and position, they have different sizes, it makes a huge difference i guarantee. Have a good day.
I think the road engineering term might be culvert? Used to offset the water and divert from the road surface on Australia's highway very common sight.

Hello, this may help, growing peppermint around your cottages as a taller ground cover will deter mice, they don't like it. It is a zone 5 perennial. Then use the excess for cooking etc. :D Thanks for the videos.
@@priscilla2152 Diatomaceous-Earth is quite effective and its non toxic for humans, animals and plants. But he would need loads of that to entireley cover up the entire floor inside and around the house with that stuff and if the next rain comes and washes it away, he would have to repeat that again and cover the entire area at least till autumn to really eliminate a big part of the flea population. Seriously this or spraying the entire house and area with toxic chemicals are the only way.... unless if he gets a dog or some cats or other animals like some goats and gives them regularly every month flea Spot-Ons. (Only the expensive ones from the vet are strong enough to effectiveley kill fleas and ticks!) the lice would bite the animals, would get poisioned from drinking their blood and die.
Witch hazel also works great for burns from cooking or open fires. It’s very soothing if kept in the refrigerator and cools the burn instantly. Witch hazel hazel also come as disposable wipes if available in your area.
I suffered in the first year of buying my property in italy from papa tachi, silent biter. They are a almost invisible small mosquito type and are a pain. Only over came their poisonous bite by micro dosing with propolis from local honey. Taken daily in my tea every morning and worked it a treat.
As always you keep up to your high standards. It's so satisfying to watch every bit of your life. For Instance the sharing of Jeppo's workshop was so intimate. Thank you so much for what you offer, it is beyond words. Greetings from The Netherlands. Grateful
Good trick in a jam jar. Half cup cider vinegar and half cup washing up liquid. Seal the top with plastic wrap and pierce with a spike with small point making holes the size of the target bugs. Fruit flies, mosquitos or fleas are very attracted and will crawl in and drown. Hope it helps.
With your tomato plants, ...you can remove the branches that do not contain flowers. You can easily tell by their shape which ones they are, then the tomatoes will get more sun and it allows the plant to remain light, so you don't have to stake it as much. 😁
And the beat goes on. Every Step You Take. Isn't She Lovely. I love the chestnut lumber. It's a very rich looking grain for your doors, floors and windows. It's nice to have friends. Rock On.
Most mints, cedar wood and lemongrass repel fleas if you have an essential oil of one of these diluted to skinsafe. That’s 2% in a carrier like jojoba or coconut etc… Also if you eat a lot of garlic, it’s said they don’t like that. ❤️🤗🐝
I'm looking forward to seeing the windows. That will be the big change that will declare the stone house a home. The stacked stone never loses its beauty. The people who built it probably couldn't imagine how beautiful it could be. Congrats on your first egg, Mr. Doolaard! Best regards to all!
The quietness of the place after the rain had interrupted activities and plans . What a pleasing disturbance and the lingering effects in the place whether on plants, trees and others presumably. But the indelible memory once cocooned is free and relieved. When nature expresses itself.
Hi stone man!! :) Nice to follow Geppo's shop and house... for a change... :) I'm afraid the gravel you put on the slope road will all be washed down by the first strong rain. I've been tryin the same in the past.. we pass and pass over it with a very big and heavy tractor but no results... water always find it's way down... the only solution for me was to install a few drainage channels (canalette di scolo) in the middle of the road. Just my few cents.. again... ;)
I would recommend spraying now with a hand sprayer for the fleas -knock them down so you’re able to work without getting bitten. Fleas carry bad diseases and you don’t want to get sick. Once you get the place sealed, you can fumigate but until then, I think you can fight them off with a topical spray
Another beautiful week of beautiful land, trees, water, mountains, and the work on your beautiful cabin. You have some really amazing and talented friends. Until next week we will only dream of the beautiful land.❤❤❤❤
That roof and your wooden guttering system is a work off art. Truly. Love the copper pipes, probably my favourite metal. This series continues to captivate me week by week. Thank you again.
As someone else suggested, try using diamotacious earth in the cabins and on your hens. We used to get fleas under our house in Queensland when I was a kid, back in the 50/60s. We used to put a strip of kerosene around our ankles to deter them.
Do you or Johannes have rosemary that need pruning? Put the branches on the floor to walk on. It will release the smell. Fleas do not like that. When it is dry and dirty and not releasing any more smell, through it out and replace with new cuttings.
Hello, Martijn! I love your channel and look forward to watching each week. Here is a flea hack you might find helpful: fill a pie pan with water and a couple of drops of dish soap. Set beneath a night-light preferably on the floor beneath an outlet. In the morning, you will be surprised at how many fleas you will have caught! For some reason they are attracted to to the light and soapy water. To keep animals away you can fashion a simple chicken wire around the top.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have an egg! This was so exciting! Circle ten Boom complained about the fleas in the concentration camp. Her sister, Betsy, thanked God for the fleas because the guards would not come in their barracks and they could pray to God unhindered. So happy you had such great help for putting gravel on the road. Love seeing the progress. Sure wish I could sit on your favorite lookout and dangle my legs over! My favorite place.
Hello martijn. This is ks. In the early 1900's there was a fungus that attacked the chestnut tree later called chestnut blight. It was very severe wiping out the chestnut tree by1940 throughout the U.S.. Now believed to have started at the Bronx zoo . The disease also started in east Asia and went through Europe. All the trees were cut down and the market was flooded w cheap chestnut wood. I have chestnut floors in my cabin . A little side of history w your morning cafe. Here's to keeping your head in the clouds on your beautiful mountain. As always ,ks. ❤
Wow! Geppo's floors are to die for! Also loved the door. I could see the wheels of creativity working as you took in his work. Love watching your video's!
I think you enjoy the first egg, the food you prepared for your supper was so healthy. I liked the carpenters house, it's steadily growing into a mansion. Good progress on your dog house.
Spreading Diatomacious Earth is what we do to help get rid of fleas but we also bomb if really bad. Good Luck ! I have terrible reaction to flea bites and in great sympathy 🙏🏼💁🏻

Congratulations on your first egg😊 For fleas: base of 1/4 cup distilled vinegar, 3/4 water add essential oils of Rosemary, Lemon grass, Peppermint, Lavender, Lemon, Ceder or Eucalyptus.
If you set pans of warm water and dish soap on the floor you will be surprised at the fleas they will collect. It takes very little soap and works quite well. Under tables, beds ....
We defleaed a large stone basement that had a family of feral cats living there with shallow pans of soapy water on the floor and nightlife’s next to them with complete success
One of my favorite parts of your video’s is you letting me see and hear your rain moments. Rain always excites me! And the bird sounds are a great welcome. Brava for the chicken who brought you the first egg! Sometimes I can't believe the sounds in the background of your videos is real. It is so beautiful and idyllic. It was great to see your appreciation for the cheese from the Netherlands. As a cheese lover I really related to that😂. What a thoughtful gift from your visitors. I also enjoyed seeing the workshop of the window guy and his big project home. What a perfect resource. Can't wait for more eggs. Regarding the fleas, you may be allergic. I am and so the reaction to flea bites is more severe with me and lasts a couple of weeks. Misery. The cabin looks so beautiful! So exciting 👏👏👏
For flea or mosquito bites, slice a piece of lemon and rub the juicey slice on the bites. Lemon has antibacterial properties that will take away the itch in a few minutes and reduce the swelling and clear it up. Good to have a lemon tree on hand
Yay, an egg! Thanks for letting us know! You might be able to drown some fleas using a light over a bowl of water. I think they are hatching from eggs laid by the ones on the mice. You are their first blood meal.

To take the itch from the bite dampen your finger and dip it into some salt and rub the bite vigorously the salt neutralises the poison in the bite

My partner is Dutch... Guess what we bring back to Norway from Holland? Stroop and cheese 😊 And hagelslag.
Congratulations Martijn! There will be plenty more eggs to come!
The color of the eggs is the same as the color of the hen’s ears.
Hope so, too!..love the chickens..10:28..wonder if the chickens were aware the guys were cooking chicken?...
@@susebear 😂
I was clapping for you when I saw the egg!!! 👋👋👋
Maybe let them hatch a few so you can increase your number of chickens again.
Oh my!!!! WOW!
Dutch Cheese!!!
…So Lekker!!!!
YOU ARE BLESSED 😃😂☺️😃♥️
Oh the birds!!!! Wonderful!!
The bird songs just make me happy😊. And the chicken clucks and greetings just fill me up for the week!
I love birds and they sound beautiful singing at Martijn’s place. Everything is so peaceful there!
Try using Witch Hazel on those flee bites. It takes the itch out and is very soothing. In fact, use it on any bug bite.
I knew an old lady named Hazel when I was a kid...I would have sworn she was a witch...
Thanks for the tip... 🫶🏼
Yes, or on sore muscles or bruising...
Witch hazel also works great for burns from cooking or open fires. It’s very soothing if kept in the refrigerator and cools the burn instantly. Witch hazel hazel also come as disposable wipes if available in your area.
Witch hazel mum gave it to me when I was a kid for midge bites, it never worked for me. The midges still just love me but don't bother my husband.
Thank you for talking with us. Makes us feel more included with your projects. What your doing is Amazing !
YEAH too the EGG !!! ❤🥚
I suffered in the first year of buying my property in italy from papa tachi, silent biter. They are a almost invisible small mosquito type and are a pain. Only over came their poisonous bite by micro dosing with propolis from local honey. Taken daily in my tea every morning and worked it a treat.
If you can get hold of an aleo vera plant...the juice in the leafs are very good to treat flee or mosquito bites
My Sunday morning motivation in the PNW. If I could give 100k likes to each of Martjins videos, I would.
With your tomato plants, ...you can remove the branches that do not contain flowers. You can easily tell by their shape which ones they are, then the tomatoes will get more sun and it allows the plant to remain light, so you don't have to stake it as much. 😁
Yes, others have suggested this. Those tomato plants really need this done.
That’s 2% in a carrier like jojoba or coconut etc…
Also if you eat a lot of garlic, it’s said they don’t like that.
Genau!
Good afternoon I'm back in the mountains of Italy. Thanks Martijn 😁.
It's time for Martijn folks and you know what to do, just relax and inhale 😊
Sure do fellow traveller!....Blessings to you!
That is what I am doing 🎉
Greeting from Syria
Yes relax slowly sleep😊
Yes watching from the UK. Best time of day!
Inhalation gives distillation 😂
Soo Sweet letting the butterfly go free! When I get hummingbirds in my home, I have to coax them out again☺️
Who else thought the cheese in packages was burgers?? 3:00 lol Another great vid Martijn. Keep it up!
You can add a trellis to your vegetable patch and attach vertical strings, up which the tomatoes can grow. You can grow cucumbers vertically as well.
Italian churches are amazing 😮
Great job Daan and Thomas and Martijn
Nice to see the skink run across the stone wall @4:27. Warm. Lively. Home for local multibeings/ species.
Everytime I see the Countryside I'm in Awww....:) The Lightning capture was Amazing....:) Thank you....:) God Bless....
You live in a bit of 'paradise' Martijn...but I think U well know this! Thank-you MOST kindly 4 sharing your bit of world with us. I am VERY happy 2 C that U have the road finished = RELIEF! AND...that U have your 1st fresh egg. SoOOOOooo anticipated after all your hard work and patience = FEELS like a reward. Just one 2 begin with and then...U will have more than U alone can eat = 'Hello Johannes! LOL! I look 3ward 2 each bit U share as do many. Health and God Bless!
Congratulations on the first egg :)
Sweetie, my husband of 48 years died June 3 2017,that was a Saturday. I can tell you what we had for breakfast and what the weather was like. Sometimes it hurts so bad I think I'll die but still here. I guess we can describe life now as moments of joy followed by hours of sadness. Love you and your channel
Ladies and gentlemen, we have an egg! This was so exciting! Circle ten Boom complained about the fleas in the concentration camp. Her sister, Betsy, thanked God for the fleas because the guards would not come in their barracks and they could
pray to God unhindered. So happy you had such great help for putting gravel on the road. Love seeing the progress. Sure wish I could sit on your favorite lookout and dangle my legs over! My favorite place.
Corrie ten Boom. Her memoir was amazing. I am so grateful I got to hear her speak in 1973 in California.
Corrie ten Boom
Was joy to see how nice there comes and are helpers too.
We are off to Tuscany in September for our first trip across the pond from Canada. I can’t wait to see the quaint towns.
I have young chickens too ! Here, in Brittany, people use to say that they start to lay eggs when their crests are becoming more red!
It's such a good feeling when things come together and jobs are done! The guys did a good job.
Good to see happy chickens 🐓
In case no-one has mentioned it- diatomaceous earth will work well against the bugs. Thank you for the great videos!
Great video and great Martino. 🌈
Hello from the U.S. I watch other off-grid videos, but yours just have a different feeling to them. These videos are just so peaceful... very calming.
Martjin, if you can purchase Pinesol in your area, pour it over your door and window thresholds. This will rid you of fleas.
Never heard that,I have a bad infestation this summer in my yard wonder if it could be sprayed outside. Need to research this.😊
A light&water trap is effective too. Fill a shallow basin with soapy water and put a light over it during night time.
@@erim9305 Pinesol also stinks so badly you would rather have the fleas !!
@@carolpoole2220 indoor only use. Pinesol is not recommended outside on ground, that would be toxic.
Congratulations on your first egg😊
For fleas: base of 1/4 cup distilled vinegar, 3/4 water add essential oils of Rosemary, Lemon grass, Peppermint, Lavender, Lemon, Ceder or Eucalyptus.
Shining a light on the pans will attract the fleas even moreso.
One of my favorite parts of your video’s is you letting me see and hear your rain moments. Rain always excites me! And the bird sounds are a great welcome. I wonder if Diatomaceous Earth would help your problem with the fleas. It’s always a pleasure each week seeing your next accomplishments. God bless you! Love from Georgia 🇺🇸
Daylight has arrived this Monday morning, and Martijn and I are settling into an hour of relaxation, joy and enthusiasm with my hot chocolate ( as it’s Winter here in Australia). You always set me up for a positive attitude to life after my weekly fix… thank you for sharing….
Thank you for the peace you give me every Sunday.
Geppos home is a dream.
Great friends! Not only do they come to help, but they bring Gouda, too! Nice video. Thanks.
Wonderful show Martin. You work so hard. I look forward to your show every Sunday.
There’s nothing quite like that first egg. I hope it was cooked perfectly and was delicious.
Use some finely ground salt to dust around the cabin and on the floor as this will help with the fleas until the fumigation.
Hello Martijn, your place is turning out so beautiful .The scenery is gorgeous and so peaceful. In my next life, I hope to be adventurous and travel. 😊
We will support you no matter what. Keep working hard.
Don't work hard, work smart... Wonderful, Good luck
I mean it isn’t a cult. So no.
@@AlanTovRight? These guys have zero lives of their own obviously. Pathetic.
Goat Gouda’s my favorite.
What a treat to see Geppo's house! Beautiful work! That design in the floor at the door! ❤
WOW, GEPPO'S HOUSE IS & GOING TO BE,,, MAGNIFICENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT TOMATOE PLANTS, GIANTS!!!!!!!!!!!! AND THEN, I BET THET EGG WAS, DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!! **** ANOTHER LOVELY WK. TO SHARE W/YOU, MARTIJN!!!!!!!!!!!! Do take care. Fl., U.S.A.

Congratulate the chicken as well.. :)

Congrats on your first egg. Wishing you many many more.
Amazing conditions of homes being reconstructed while living in unfinished structures. Brave yet must be challenging. 👀📣
Geppo’s shop is beautiful. The windows will be wonderful.
