I have been following you since the beginning of your work in Italy. I eagerly await your weekly video, and I never miss it. I'm not alone; my best friend in Denmark does the same. I appreciate how you speak sparingly, allowing us to hear the sounds around you. I admire your respect for insects, always setting them free by opening the window, and your chickens that sometimes seem to trustingly follow you. Most importantly, I love that you choose classical music and avoid songs. You tell everything without words and on your shoulder, through images. Congratulations! I'm writing to you from Peru.

I've been battling depression for the past 8 years. I've been following your journey for almost a year now, and whenever I find it difficult to keep going, I always look forward to your new beautiful videos. Seeing you so motivated and hardworking inspires me to push forward and pursue my dreams. Hopefully, one day I'll be able to afford to move somewhere closer to nature and gradually make it my home; in this aspect, our goals aren't that different, I suppose. You are doing an amazing job both in your work and presenting it in such a cinematic way. I hope you have a beautiful Sunday, Martijn!☮

7:25 you have a butterfly at your rooftop looking in on you. 😊
Martijn I don’t know about the fleas you have in Italy, but my experience in US is the fleas would not stay where there is no food source. If your critters are gone and have been gone for a while now from your cabin I wouldn’t think they would still be there with nothing to feed on. I say this just as FYI, could your bites be coming from yard or tent?
Be careful with flea bites and working around their feces. You can get diseases, some from bites and some from inhaling their dried feces. You really should wear mask when you are brushing the fine stuff off stones. Protect your lungs!
    💚 from Texas

I also live in northern Italy, on the plain, & we have an insect called papataci. Otherwise known as sand fleas. They look more like smaller mosquitoes, bite is really allergenic, & they can carry leishmania. I just bought a 20 kilo bag of diatomaceous earth & it works great! Also, Martijn, be careful of those giant wasps, calibrone. I had a nest in a chimney, had a heck of a time getting someone to put wire netting over it because they’re so dangerous. That said, your videos bring me such pleasure, & joy seeing your progress. Thank you for sharing this journey.

I had a wood-floored home where fleas were a problem every summer, even though we had no pets. My baby daughter was still crawling, so I didn’t want to fumigate as I didn’t want the chance of toxic residue on any surfaces. I sprinkled diatomaceous earth everywhere and made sure to sweep it into the cracks between the floorboards. We never had fleas ever again, even in the summer months. (It also works just as well for ants or cockroaches!)

Your Dad probably told you, if you break off the tip of the main stem of the tomato plant when it reaches as tall as you want it to be, it will stop getting any taller and concentrate on fruit production. Also, on the tomato's, if you begin removing the "suckers" (a stem that begins right in the "crotch" -- the very center of a "V" between a leaf vine and the main vine-- you can control the density (volume) of the plant. Those "suckers" are literally another main vine so the plant begins to get very "thick" if they are all left in place. Actually, if you let the sucker get to a reasonable size, it will root and become a new plant if you burry its end in dirt. It takes a couple of weeks with lots of water but it works.
That flea problem is nasty and can be dangerous since they can carry disease from the animal they were on.

@@sandihandi7831 Hello 🤗Have some fun and experiment! First thing, the quality of your yeast. If you use dry yeast the water should be just a little hotter than your body temp (104 degrees), if it scalds you then it is too hot for yeast. Too room temp and the dry yeast won't activate. Add a tbsp of sugar to the water before the yeast - to give it food to activate. Never put salt in the yeast directly, add the salt to the dry ingredients. Practice your light rolling palm technique to knead the bread. If you are able, acquire a bread pan or cast-iron 6 to 8 qt. Pot with a lid - it will create a nice crust.

Hello, this may help, growing peppermint around your cottages as a taller ground cover will deter mice, they don't like it. It is a zone 5 perennial. Not sure what growth zone you are sometime snow cover can add a zone if plant is buried. Can start from seed "winter sow" look that up. Can be invasive as it is a mint. Then use the excess for cooking etc. :D Thanks for the videos.

@@priscilla2152 Diatomaceous-Earth is quite effective and its non toxic for humans, animals and plants. But he would need loads of that to entireley cover up the entire floor inside and around the house with that stuff and if the next rain comes and washes it away, he would have to repeat that again and cover the entire area at least till autumn to really eliminate a big part of the flea population. Seriously this or spraying the entire house and area with toxic chemicals are the only way.... unless if he gets a dog or some cats or other animals like some goats and gives them regularly every month flea Spot-Ons. (Only the expensive ones from the vet are strong enough to effectiveley kill fleas and ticks!) the lice would bite the animals, would get poisioned from drinking their blood and die.

Once you get the place sealed, you can fumigate but until then, I think you can fight them off with a topical spray

Do you or Johannes have rosemary that need pruning? Put the branches on the floor to walk on. It will release the smell. Fleas do not like that. When it is dry and dirty and not releasing any more smell, through it out and replace with new cuttings.

Hello, Martijn! I love your channel and look forward to watching each week. Here is a flea hack you might find helpful: fill a pie pan with water and a couple of drops of dish soap. Set beneath a night-light preferably on the floor beneath an outlet. In the morning, you will be surprised at how many fleas you will have caught! For some reason they are attracted to to the light and soapy water. To keep animals away you can fashion a simple chicken wire around the top.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have an egg! This was so exciting! Circle ten Boom complained about the fleas in the concentration camp. Her sister, Betsy, thanked God for the fleas because the guards would not come in their barracks and they could
pray to God unhindered. So happy you had such great help for putting gravel on the road. Love seeing the progress. Sure wish I could sit on your favorite lookout and dangle my legs over! My favorite place.

Hello martijn. This is ks. In the early 1900's there was a fungus that attacked the chestnut tree later called chestnut blight. It was very severe wiping out the chestnut tree by1940 throughout the U.S.. Now believed to have started at the Bronx zoo . The disease also started in east Asia and went through Europe. All the trees were cut down and the market was flooded w cheap chestnut wood. I have chestnut floors in my cabin . A little side of history w your morning cafe. Here's to keeping your head in the clouds on your beautiful mountain. As always ,ks. ❤
