The whole situation was and still is one of the scariest and disheartening things I’ve ever witnessed.
I’m from the same neighborhood (I live a ten minute walk from Junior) and I was so disappointed in the community for having done nothing for Junior when he was fighting for his life.
Everyone, from the bodega owners (I don’t care what anyone says, it takes a village, and those men had a responsibility to help Junior, if not before the fact because of fear, then most definitely after), the people that recorded, the nurses that walked past this baby boy trying to hold on to his last breath sprawled across the street from St. Barnabas, and those disgusting officers.
Junior needed his community and the community failed him.
But, I was there during the service and vigil and I can tell you that we are all feeling this. The Bronx lost an angel.

This is a damn shame! The entire community failed this young man. Everyone from the Bodega owners, the young woman set him up, attackers, police officers who ignored him, community members who walked past him and everyone else who failed to intervene and provide him lifesaving assistance should face charges or disciplinary actions. We hear so much about implict bias and don't really know what it is. This is the deadly consequence of implocit bias. These people probably though here goes another "trouble making" kid and this is what they do. We are losing empathy for each other.
