*here's my explanation:*
The Pineapple is his real father, always has been, he and the mom got a divorce after she got "pregnant" with tom. she started dating, looking for a father figure for her yet to be born child, and found the watermelon.
because the watermelon was the parental figure at the time of his birth, he signed the birth papers, becoming Tom's "Birth certificate father" while his biological father is the divorced pineapple. legally, Tom can visit his biological dad, so during the Fundead flashback, Tom was visiting him, and ended up witnessing his death, leaving him with his alive, Birth Certificate dad to take care of him the rest of his time living with them
I like to think that the watermelon was the doctor and was watching the child and seeing if Tom was capable of breathing as such in real life

I feel like the pineapple is the step father because the pineapple shows up later in Toms life. Plus, why would Tom bother to visit his biological father if he doesn’t know he exists in the first place

I believe that Tom is an orphan who was alone because of his birth defect (lack of eyes) so he pretended to have parents. And the alone part would also describe his prom date, a coconut. In episode The End (part 1) when he runs away, he comes back, not because of his bad life homeless, but because his friends are the only people who don't run away scared or just don't like him because of his "eyes". Also the reason the homeless person didn't run away or be phased is because he is crazy, literally insane.
I never questioned this, I just assumed his parents were a bowling ball and pineapple ;-;

That could be possible.
Memory loss from PTSD or refusing to remember his past life.
He inherited this peculiar trait from a bowling ball (considered Tom's "mother"). ... Tom meant for them to be fully black eyes which were caused by the counterpart being possessed by a demon that would take control of Tom's body in moments of extreme anger.
Theory: Tom was adopted by possessed fruit. Or just the Eddsworld crew doesn’t want us to see his parents just yet so the just used the fruit as a place holder.
Here's my theory. Tom's father was the water Mellon and his mother was the bowling ball. One day ( I will call him sir melon ) died or got seriously injured somehow. After he passed away Tom kept his Glass's. Later the bowling ball got married to the pineapple and eventually Tom accepted that his dad was now a pineapple and gave the Glass's to him as a way to say that Tom accepts the fact the pineapple was now his dad. The pineapple wore the Glass's every day to say that he's happy with his step son and was proud of him. Then one day they go fishing and I'm sure you know the rest with the bear. That's my theory

What if Tom's parents aren't even what we see here? What if he was an orphan, cuz he was born with Black Eyes, and his biological parents didnt like that. And since he was living in an orphanage, surrounded by bullies, he decided to run away with a bowling ball and a pineapple and pretended that they are his parents. He may have developed a but of love and compassion for the objects, and when the pineapple got shot (thx, younger Matt...), then it disturbed Tom enough to traumatize him, and now he takes out that anger with his Smirnoff (and he used to take the anger out on Tord, before he left {hence the hatred...}

It’s funny, not long after posting this Lemmino made a video where he went searching for the origin of that ‘S’ everyone knows how to draw, and now CGP Grey made a similar video about Statin Island.
I do love that sort of video, and it was a lot of fun making this one. Sort of makes you feel like Indiana Jones on the hunt for some lost relic.

My head cannon is that Tom’s parents being inanimate objects is symbolic.
The mother was probably a famous bowler with a birth disorder that made her have hollow eyes, and the dad was some weird watermelon-loving guy at first, but then switched to loving pineapples.

as seen in the moment Tom´s life was flashing before his eyes, when he was a newborn baby his eyes were already black, so, what if he was born with no eyes for some reason and he couldn´t really see how his parents looked like, and that´s just how he imagined them, and the dad changed from an watermelon to a pinapple bc he remebered it in different ways?

In an interview TomSka (Tom) did a while ago he said his character was 'possesed' (it also mentions that in trick or threat).
What if, when Tom was possesed it gave him a sort of amnesia (or something like that) and it bassicly changed his memories?

Here's my theory. Tom's father was the water Mellon and his mother was the bowling ball. One day ( I will call him sir melon ) died or got seriously injured somehow. After he passed away Tom kept his Glass's. Later the bowling ball got married to the pineapple and eventually Tom accepted that his dad was now a pineapple and gave the Glass's to him as a way to say that Tom accepts the fact the pineapple was now his dad. The pineapple wore the Glass's every day to say that he's happy with his step son and was proud of him. Then one day they go fishing and I'm sure you know the rest with the bear. That's my theory
I thought he and his parents were demons. His dad took the space of a pineapple and his mom a bowling ball. The two demons had a child (Tom) and Tom possessed a human, likely explaining why:
1. In 'Trick or Threat' he said "You cant possess something twice"
2. Maybe even why his eyes are black.

i have a theory the watermelon is toms real dad but died and the pineapple is his stepdad
idea. the melon is the grandpa and grandma is a artichoke because of the spikes. (on his dads side) and then married the bowling ball in which gave him spiky hair and black eyes. his dad was shot in fun dead and he has hated matt every since. (that last part about his hate for matt could use some more evidence)
Maybe it’s just one of those moments where you don’t think much of it and keep changing your characters backstories because well- you keep thinking of new ones- (talking about toms parents)

Tom's dad died and then the pineapple was his stepdad. Possibly a relative but i don't think so. Other people say that the pineapple was his father and the watermelon took his place but 25ft under the seat is very earlier than Fun Dead. But, that's just my theory. A GAME THE-
