  • Here's an original DADGAD guitar song of mine called Changing Tune.
It's in tuning and if you'd like to learn the intro section, here's a tutorial that covers that - • Add More To Your Accom...
Shot & edited by Shane Serrano.
Recorded, mixed and mastered by Cillian O'Dalaigh at Temper & FLUX.
I'm using the Electro-Harmonix MEL9 Tape Replay Machine pedal to create the low choir sound towards the end of the video. It's a lot of fun to mess around with it in DADGAD guitar tuning.
    CHANGING TUNE LYRICS:
    (Verse 1)
    Along the lines of cruelty
    Mans morals and misdeeds
There are those that swing the heartache
    The power to mislead
    It’s built upon foundations
    Of Millennia, tribe and creed
They’re made mad with subtle twisting
Building brawn by breaking dreams, breaking dreams
    (Verse 2)
    And those laid quiet helpless
On beds of straw and hay
As they look upon the darkness
    And wish for brighter days
    When men with bolstered backbone
    Were not afraid to say
What’s past is past and backwards
Shall not here rise today, rise today
    (Chorus)
Have you taken us for Fools?
    Well I heard you do
You’re not telling us the Truth
    So I’m done with you…
    I’m Changing Tune, Changing Tune
    (Verse 3)
    But lies have risen slowly
And the truths now hard to see
    Two sides with one condition
    Never live to let be
And they curse the weak and drifting
As they grasp at life’s seams
    And spike the muddy waters
Of those who dare to dream, dare to dream
    (Chorus)
    (Bridge)
    Lies flow freely down mainstream
    Truths is neatly kept unseen
    (Chorus)

I have been playing the progression all week. I can't remember playing a C#dim in a song. That is is I'm getting it right. Love the rythm. Cheers

Ya you got it man, I throw in a C#dim in the bridge on the word "freely"... (Bm, F#m,C#dim, A, Bm, A, G) When I'm lazy I just play the C#m (no5) 11,X,11,9,X,X. Cheers for pointing that out 👌 I just had a listen to your music, nice stuff man, keep those videos coming 👍🎸

Great work Aodan. Thanks for sharing. Would love to hear with a few whistles too

Cheers, I actually had a lot of whistle on my first album. I had Sean McCarty come in to put down a few track on low whistle and uilleann pipes. Here's a track or two from that first album on Soundcloud with the whistle kicking things off - soundcloud.com/aodancoyne/sets/if-we-only-knew Hope you enjoy 👍

@@aodancoynemusic Love it Aodan. You are a virtual mentor for me. I have switched to DADGAD about a year ago. Welcome Poor Paddy was my favorite of the 4. Ha, maybe it was the whistle.... but maybe I'm happy to hear your rebel spirit.

Love the lyrics. Taylor guitars should invite you to be on one of their Taylor Primetime episodes, you are really rocking that gs-mini!

@@aodancoynemusicHiya, Is the intonation on the short scale Taylor mini in dadgad a challenge? My Martin d jr is a bit off.

    • @aodancoynemusic
      @aodancoynemusic  Год назад

Hi @@paulmurphy9973, to tell you the truth, it is. It was always spot on in standard, but in DADGAD the GSMini did have trouble with intonation for me. Now that really only seemed to kick in for me after a lot of touring though. It was a top notch touring/traveling guitar and served me well for a good few years, but I then started having trouble with it. But now it's mainly my easy pick up guitar in standard at home.

Appreciate the response. Yeah ,the claim is that you can compensate with short scale lengths with thicker gauge strings ,but experience says otherwise.Best wishes.

@@aodancoynemusic I had the pleasure of seeing him perform with Leo, as “ tir na nog” and with “ scullion “ another great Irish guitarist would be Louis Stewart, jazz, and had a couple of hours chatting with John Martyn, he promised me a signed copy of “ solid air” but unfortunately took ill. You could say I’ve seen a few well knowns on the Irish scene....thanks for the music and tips!

Ah mighty stuff. A good number of years ago I was very fortunate to get to the West Clare Jazz Fest and sit in on a few of Louis Stewarts workshops. I was just a spotty teenager and really had no right to be there, but the few words he had for me about structured practice have come into play time and time again. An amazing musician and human. RIP. Likewise John Martyn. What a hero.

@@aodancoynemusic JJ Smyths, Wednesday nights, upstairs lounge, didn’t really have a thing for jazz, but yeah, amazing. Eugene Brosnan is another to look out for, veteran singer/songwriter, gave him a lift from Maastricht to Germany a few times, back in the day
