Sometimes I think folks only hear what they want to hear and disregard the rest, I have always said if you only have one tool and it is a knife t should be 3/16" min, and 5" min, these knives were never advertised as a OTO they are knives for the woods for use in Bushcraft etc.. They were not advertised as a OTO or a Survival Knife? We will have blades that meet these Criteria soon, we will be introducing the Spirit soon that is 3/16 and 5". Attention to detail is as important as skills-
I think it's absolutely wonderful that you finally started your own knife company! I've been waiting for this day for a long while now. I was rather tense waiting for the pricing of the knives, and when I heard what they cost I was overwhelmed with satisfaction. You've certainly gone above and beyond here. Thank you Dave, and everyone affiliated with you and your company. I appreciate EVERYTHING you do for the community.
I used Rockwell over 50 as a generality they are sitting they are in the high 50's but we dont want to get pigeon holed to an exact 58/59/57 etc... If they throw sparks with a rock they are plenty hard to hold an edge-
***** Cool. Maybe you can have a few tested and publish the results just so we can know. Some may not want an HRC too low or too high. It would just be nice to know although I understand what you are saying here.
Even non-heat treat carbon steel is hard enough to throw sparks... Maybe test to see what the "range" in rockwell hardness is then state that its from its lowest point to its highest point... 50-55...?
Can't wait to buy both styles Dave . Love your channel, you are the reason I started woodcraft / bushcraft I use your channel to teach my kids . Hope to make it to a class one day
Dave your show dual survival was the best I would stay up all night watching and learning from master like you I have use mostly all your techine from fire to trapping I just wanted to thank you
I'm glad you're always putting one foot after the other. From the little that I know about you(although I've lived with you for over half a decade here on RUclips and speaking events) I know you to be a good man. You do right by your peoples and I will support you by continue to purchase your above average gear!
Just picked up your Mountaineer SMKWs … they display your craft excellent… staff is very knowledgeable…AWESOME BLADE MICARTA SCALES. YOU GUYS ARE KILLING IT. Thanks Dave for another OUTSTANDING KNIFE. BTW. WHO EVER IS DOING YOUR SHEATHS…DON’T let them Get AWAY. Damm nice sheath!!!! Included with knife I was very surprised… One last thing. Who ever is wrapping your blades up with the plastic wrap… that’s awesome! Hope to see you next fall in Sevierville at SMKWS.. stay well my friend.
Ordered mine on 23 May & arrived this morning, I got the scorpion, USA to UK in 10 days brilliant & as you said in the video comes ready to use, many thanks dave keep up the good work & great videos too.
Have you heard of a knife maker in the UK called "Jacklore Knives" Dave? He is so busy that he has just stopped taking orders and is now just going to be selling them on his website first come first served. Before that he had a 8mth waiting list. His attention to details is insane lol. You should check him out Dave.
Wow, the price point on these knives is just awesome! Always good to see high-quality, U.S. made product that doesn't break the bank. Thank you for all the videos and self reliance advice!
Dave, I think this is a great investment for your business and the woodsmen community. Haters will always hate. You could GIVE them a free knife and they would complain that they had to pay for postage. The nay sayers have no idea what it takes to start a venture like opening up a knife shop, the investment, the staffing, training, testing, marketing and risk in taking on a project like this. So just to shut them up Im purchasing one of these knives. To the haters: just go away, don't buy the product, if the product is bad then the knife shop closes. But I'm gonna go on a limb and say that this will most likely be a prosperous venture for Dave and his family.
Cool, Dave! Thank you for producing these, and for NOT producing another $300 or more overbuilt (in my opinion) custom knife. These are the specs that strike a nerve with me, and one of these is now on my list.
I am not a big fan of the scandi grind. Initially, it is easily the best woodcrafters edge. As the knife is used, that zero grind rolls and becomes convex. It has always been a difficult edge to maintain. Once it gone, the amount of work involved in getting that zero grind back is tremendous. Which for the woodsman is not practical. Not the ideal woodsman's edge in my opinion. At least as a primary belt knife. Saber or flat for the primary and save that scandi for lighter tasks to save the edge. JMHO and observation.
Great product Dave. as soon as I can I will be purchasing the scorpion don't worry about the naysayers, when it comes to product guarantee I trust you 100%. And the other thing I'd like to say is that steel hardness doesn't always equal steel performance the last thing I want is to get a blade that is so brittle I would be afraid to use it under adverse conditions . Thanks for all your videos your information holds a lot of value with me. looking forward to owning the scorpion.
I wish it had a 5 inch blade. The pathfinder school recommends a 5 inch blade. So it seems strange that they make both PKS knives under 5. I would give the sheath 3 stars. The quality of leather/kydex is really good, but the craftsmanship was a little sloppy. There was a lot of kydex shaving in the sheath that took some time to clean out. Also the kydex was crooked where it connected to the leather. I took all the screws out and reconnect, but its still a little off. I will also put lock tight on the screws to keep it from coming lose and more crooked. I'm being a little picky and I'm still a big pathfinder fan I just would have liked to get a little more for $162. At least now they made the HD and took credit for my idea!
When I saw your Scorpion I nearly flipped my lid Brother! The Mora Black is my go to knife. I have plenty of custom knives that cost plenty of money but I always go back to my Mora Black... The scorpion looks like a full tang custom version of the Mora, and when you mentioned the price, that's when the lid flipping started! I for one can't wait to get my hands on one! Thanks again for all you do Dave.
as a novice knife maker myself and a collector, it is hard to find a good carbon steel fixed blade knife for under $150 and it is harder yet to make one. 1095 is an excellent choice of steel i cant think of a better steel for what you are trying to achieve. love the handles simple and get the job done, excellent! the one thing i would critique, or suggest would be to have a sheath option that does not impede on the handle. i personally prefer to have the blade in the sheath and the handle out of the sheath, just a thought. keep up the amazing work i enjoy every thing you do you are certainly a role model for so many.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE MY Scorpion Hd. Best fire maker period. Excellent edge retention and it is the sharpest blade I own hands down. This thang is a woods scalpel.
Dave i've been watching you on Dual Survival for a long while now, you have inspired me to learn the art of surviving in the wilderness and i hope to be a well educated survivalist like you some day. I will also probably be purchasing the scorpion.
I'm a huge fan Dave you make some very awesome and high quality knifes I've checked them out at More to Life Outfitters in Andersonville, TN they fit perfectly in the hand and are well balanced. My favorite is the grizzly second favorite is black bear. Thank you for everything you do your awesome.
Great video Dave, I am excited too see that scorpion design, the blade profile looks very similar to a Mora. And boy do I I love my moras. Glad to see you in the knife making business, planning on ordering a scorpion myself. I'll try my best to support my favorite bushcrafts man I know. Peace and Hope all is well.
Hey Dave Was just wondering how you feel about the new knives you're trying to bring in the market not meeting the standards for the knife required for you basic class? Are you planning in the future to produce a knife to meet the requirements?
Looking forward to seeing the product reviews from the youtube camping/bushcraft/knife people. It seems to me that you're in a good spot to put your knives in the hands of a lot of people who enjoy the use of a properly functioning tool.
HA HA! I got IT!!!!!! The site wouldn't let me order the Kydex sheath, but I hope I can still get it later. I ordered the knife anyway, to make sure I get one from the first batch. WHOOH HOOH! I finally scored my sidekick knife!
My uncle have one of these knife he bought it is very big fan of yours and I saw him using that knife is really good . Very are useful information about that knife I hope your business do good best of luck
I made an order for $400, bought both knives and a cooking set and a ferrocerium rod, unfortunately the leather sheath for the Skorpion was unavailable which was a shame but hey, im still happy, great website guys.
That Scorpion looks amazing! As does the other, but the scorpion stood out to me. You and your videos are amazing. Keep it up. I have just started practicing Bushcraft and it has me captivated. Your videos have helped with that. ATB -Ryan
I love the design and I really like the fact that you are putting Americans to work. I'll try to log on and try to buy it on Saturday if it is not sold out..
I like the Kephart one. I would like to see you do the whole enchilada though. Knife, sheath, fire starter, with options for carry. I know it is a new process for you guys, but, just telling you my own opinion. Nice job on those blades!
Both knives look very nice. Wish you good luck with the sales! One note only - "50+ HRC" is a good advertisement for the 19 century, it'll be hard to impress the modern clients like that, no matter how great the knives are.
I apologize if this has been asked over and over, I just skimmed most of the comments. As I have read in the comments there will be knives made in the future that will be usable during a Pathfinder survival course? I wanted to be able to pick up a main and a backup knife that PF produces to support you guys.
Dave! That scorpion looks like the knife ive been looking for at a very good price, i do alot of wood carving and looks perfect, i was considering a bushcraft black, but i really wanted full tang, awesome stuff i can't wait to see what else tou guys come up with, and you'll have my money as soon as i get it, lol,
fantastic job Dave! i have been wanting a few of the knives i have seen on your website to date but price point a bit out of my range. but these two and in my favorite grind, in my range for sure. thanks for the great work Dave.
When I saw the knives I was expecting you to tell us that they would cost well over $150. I'm really surprised at the price. Especially the blued one with micarta handles. That knife looks great, and I love micarta!
Interesting that you went with 2 very similar styles of knives. I thought for sure the second one would be a larger blade, or even like the old butcher knife that you love so much and everyone keeps asking about! In any case, welcome to the manufacturing side, good luck, but I doubt you'll need it!
Beautiful functional knife, After all these years old Hoarce Kephart and others new what worked without all the BS. Good price and great warranty. Some people just gotta sound smart... Critics!!!!
But Im loving that knife!!!!
Dave Canterbury.... Did you get more ink? The sleeves look good.
What does (PKS) stand for?
I think it's absolutely wonderful that you finally started your own knife company! I've been waiting for this day for a long while now. Thanks for clarifying that. I was concerned about the broad 50 range. High 50's is all I needed to know.
***** Thank you for clearing that up.
***** Cool. Maybe you can have a few tested and publish the results just so we can know. Some may not want an HRC too low or too high. It would just be nice to know although I understand what you are saying here.
***** dave, just wondering, is there any plan to do a "nessmuk" style blade?
Even non-heat treat carbon steel is hard enough to throw sparks... Maybe test to see what the "range" in rockwell hardness is then state that its from its lowest point to its highest point... 50-55...?
Can't wait to buy both styles Dave . Love your channel, you are the reason I started woodcraft / bushcraft I use your channel to teach my kids . Hope to make it to a class one day

I'm glad you're always putting one foot after the other. Nice Knives, Steel and Blades! Good price.
You should know as well as anyone what makes a good knife. I'm sure they are quality pieces of equipment.
Love the knives Dave.... good jobbon your work and videos as always and just wanted to know if u could ship them overseas.
Dave, I think this is a great investment for your business and the woodsmen community. Haters will always hate. Dave, your videos always inspire me. Great knife designs. Best regards
Beautiful knives, Mr. Canterbury. I can't wait to pick one up for myself. Thanks for the great video.
Mighty fine looking knives Dave. The Scorpion has just found its way to the top of my What To Get Next List
MrJH1959 Yeah it looks really nice to me.

I like the price point on both those knives. They look darn good.
Welcome to the knife making world, good luck.
The right mind set and ideas for a proper knife, love your ways and ideas

I have tried to find a flaw with this knife and I simply can't. This is by far THE BEST Knife I have ever owned.
Those are some mightee FINE looking knives Dave! Thanks for putting these out there!
Im so excited for these knives, and I hope you guys continue to add to the selection of knives. God bless

Great looking knives Dave
I just purchased a knife from you a couple of weeks ago. Your products are great.
I ordered the pocket sharpener a bit back myself, works great and no complaints about it.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE MY Scorpion Hd. Best fire maker period. Excellent edge retention and it is the sharpest blade I own hands down. This thang is a woods scalpel.
i love it, glad you kept it classic and simple, we dont need anything different than the stuff that works
Dave i've been watching you on Dual Survival for a long while now, you have inspired me to learn the art of surviving in the wilderness and i hope to be a well educated survivalist like you some day. I will also probably be purchasing the scorpion.

Hey Dave
Was just wondering how you feel about the new knives you're trying to bring in the market not meeting the standards for the knife required for you basic class?
Are you planning in the future to produce a knife to meet the requirements?
I have 2 of your knives the scorpion and the grizzly love them both. My go to knives for everything.keep up great work
Looks great Dave
I would trust anything that Dave guarantees for life. Can't wait to see what he would design for a survival knife.
I just received my Scorpion XL. It surprised me, and I already had high expectations. I'll be buying more PKS blades.
Edwards Deming would be proud of you. Love your videos...thanks, Dave.
Great looking knives if I could afford either of then I would buy it in a heart beat. Goodluck with this new venture.
The 2nd knife "Scorpion" looks like a Mora Bushcraft black.
They look great. I'm still trying wear out the PLSK1 still, but i like they way they look and the price point is amazing!!
Looking forward to seeing the product reviews from the youtube camping/bushcraft/knife people. It seems to me that you're in a good spot to put your knives in the hands of a lot of people who enjoy the use of a properly functioning tool.

Beautiful knife David

Ian
Great looking blades boss. Thank you for your work.
Look like great blades. Will pick one up soon.
That Scorpion looks amazing! As does the other, but the scorpion stood out to me. You and your videos are amazing. Keep it up. I have just started practicing Bushcraft and it has me captivated. Your videos have helped with that. ATB

Video tour of the knife shop! Good luck brother on the new adventure
I love the design and I really like the fact that you are putting Americans to work. I'll try to log on and try to buy it on Saturday if it is not sold out..

I would like to see a video of your knife shop. Hope you sell a million knives thank you for your service to our country.
Thanks for the video Dave. Great knives. And Affordable too. Im impressed Brother Man.
Really exiting! These knives are going to fly off the shelves.
Amazing . Me and my father love your videos
Nice knives. I really like the Scorpion, finally a full tang Mora styled knife. Hopefully they will be back in stock soon. Great job.
Great work on the release of PKS, much respect!
I apologize if this has been asked over and over, I just skimmed most of the comments. As I have read in the comments there will be knives made in the future that will be usable during a Pathfinder survival course? I wanted to be able to pick up a main and a backup knife that PF produces to support you guys.
Awesome knives Dave. Good luck with the knife shop. I know I'll be putting some money away for one.
Awesome Dave. Its great to see this and also I saw Rufus walking behind there ha ha.
Wish you the best always.
Greetings from Extrema South
I like that second knife. Looks great.
Dave! That scorpion looks like the knife ive been looking for at a very good price, i do alot of wood carving and looks perfect, i was considering a bushcraft black, but i really wanted full tang, awesome stuff i can't wait to see what else tou guys come up with, and you'll have my money as soon as i get it, lol,
Thanks Dave, very nice quality knives and good price !!
fantastic job Dave! i have been wanting a few of the knives i have seen on your website to date but price point a bit out of my range. but these two and in my favorite grind, in my range for sure. thanks for the great work Dave.
Im definitely going to get my hands on a few of these knives...
Congratulations Dave
always wanted a Kephart knife, looks like i found the correct one. Great video Dave.
I'm digging those blades dave!
best knife i had ever used great job Dave.
Glad to see your doing alright Dave!
Cool! I think being able to strike flint on a knife for sparks is very important. Thanks
When I saw the knives I was expecting you to tell us that they would cost well over $150. I'm really surprised at the price. Especially the blued one with micarta handles. That knife looks great, and I love micarta!
Both knives look really really good, but that scorpian knife man wow looks incredible
That sheath looks like a quality hunk of leather also.
Process Eng Eh! been there done that, well didn't do all the math of design of experiment but my confidence factor in these products is high. LOL
They looks like pretty great knives Dave - I expect something over 5 inches will be in the works at some point though?
1095 steel hardened to the point that they will throw sparks when struck with flint are fairly brittle and have little resistance to bending without breaking. Maybe a 3/16 inch thick blade would be a little more suitable.
I had no idea you were a QE by trade. A lot of things are making sense now. Engineers unite!
The scorpion is a great looking knife. Love the bluing.
God bless you, good luck with the company Dave. It really isn't too often you see a company stand behind it's products, I love the life guarantee, that's a really honorable thing to do. Keep up the good work -J
Pretty cool, Dave. Let us know if you ever need anything.
Great looking knives! I agree, there are plenty of knife buyers out there..
Excited for you guys
Great video, great info. Looking to get one myself.
David I will be ordering the Kephart asap but if you would produce a Bowie and a kbar knife to the same standards that would be great. The only improvement I would make is the tang on the kbar. I do hope you take it into consideration as they are both iconic knives.
Will you also be offering PKS Axes and Tomahawks in the future??
Maybe the Dave C Norlund Style camp axe? Send a guy over to Sweden to train.
....that'd be sweet!
Good job in EVERYTHING you do Dave c.
They look good and price is reasonable. I might just pick one up and give it a good workout and review. Take care!
