    It was reported in the ST News that In response to media queries on the issue, the Singapore Land Authority (SLA), which manages state properties, said on May 12 that both ministers had rented the properties through a bidding process, with Mr Shanmugam the sole bidder for 26 Ridout Road and Dr Balakrishnan the highest bidder for 31 Ridout Road.
    So now we know that both the ministers rented the properties under direct leasing.
    If this is not a Conflicting Information, What is? The question is; What drove the SLA to make the conflicting and misleading information in the first place?
    Are there any accountability?

    Who in the freaking world will pay S$400K - S$500K on a rented property to do renovations & STILL pay S$26K a month which is not yours to own thereafter? The government DIDN'T even answer that question yet. Shouldn't SLA or whichever government department owns those Bangalow be responsible enough to fork out that money to do up at least livable conditions before renting?!
    On top of EVERYTHING else. IF you owned a GCB house, WHY would you want to rent out your unit to rent another if it's MORE expensive to rent the one to live in?! WTH?! The MORE they explain, the MORE we know that they're NOT FIT to be in Government. ALL No logic one! Goodness!

    The ministerial statements did not conclusively determine KS and VB innocence. Instead, it had brought up more questions in the minds of the public and even surfaced incriminating evidence to their crimes. In KS's speech, he affirmed that CPIB only " look through" his phone and did not find any relevant information because he had his phone set to "delete messages". This might have shown KS's intent to obstruct justice by destroying key evidence to all his alleged crimes. I am urging PM Lee to reopen the criminal investigation into KS and VB citing the new revelation. CPIB must raid KS and VB to detain and use digital forensic technologies to retrieve all deleted files as soon as possible before all data are lost permanently. If the two ministers are found to have committed crimes, they must be trialed and punished with the full force of the law. If PM Lee refuses to reopen the criminal investigation, then the public must conclude that the PAP in no longer incorruptible. This will mean devastating consequences for the PAP in the upcoming general election.

    Mr Singh considered Mr Balakrishnan’s lease less contentious. As the SLA doesn’t fall under his ministerial portfolio, Mr Singh suggested it was highly unlikely for his duties to overlap with the SLA’s functions and responsibilities.
    Mr Singh went on to assert that there was no evidence that could “arouse suspicion” under clause 3.1(b) of the Code that the minister used special knowledge acquired in his role to benefit himself. “There is no evidence presently available of this, and it would be impermissible to come to this conclusion,” he declared, concluding that the lease at 31 Ridout Road didn’t appear to violate the Code.
    However, Mr Singh urged the government to clarify whether it intends to maintain the Code’s strict prohibitions.
    He stated, “If the current strictures in the Code are being loosened, the government should explain why strict standards which have been in place for decades are being adjusted.”

      Well, let me illustrate to you another perspective on this. So these individuals are the people governing our nation and making the big decisions for our country's future and what-not. If they were somewhat ill and if that might impair their abilities to work in their hired capacities, would you not want them treated ASAP? Or would you rather they quit and a new hire be found? If they were only a rank and file employee in roles that readily have many capable candidates, sure. But do you think it would be easy to find a replacement of a similar qualification, capability and experience in a short period of time? I would put it to you that in the amount of time needed to find such a replacement, the incumbent would have already seen the medical specialist, started on their treatment, and back in their jobs, versus the new hire who would still be finding his feet in his new job, provided you can actually find someone in that short span of time. So priority for members of the govt, sure I can accept that. But where I would draw the line is excessive "discounts" for products and services etc. Like some minister's rumoured $8 heart surgery.

    has also held a senior position in the government’s policy formulation department, underscored the potential for a perceived conflict of interest because the government’s landlord, the Singapore Land Authority (SLA), reports to the Ministry of Law.
    He argued that there is arguably a breach of the Minister’s Code of Conduct, which demands that Ministers avoid any actual or apparent conflict of interest.
    He stated that mainstream media reported the Minister’s request to the SLA for “a list of properties available to the public for rent, AND THEN VISITED some of these (highlighted) properties” without any official reason, suggesting this could be viewed as a personal request and a potential abuse of power.

    Great issue to bite on, most people will simply ignore the differences between renting vs leasing/owning, and come up with all sorts of math to compare between the 2 based on $ per PSF, which is lol.
    Renting is straight up burning money, you can't ever get it back, while in a relatively stable property market here, buying a property (even though you technically do not own it for life) allows you sell it later on, most likely for a profit too.
    These 2 ministers fronting parts of the repair, and paying rent for these obviously very hard to rent out state owned properties (who the hell wants to live with wild poisonous snakes around) can easily be seen as putting money back into the government's coffers for other uses, seems quite a good thing.

      the state should have done more to make it inhabitable instead of leaving it vacant on the market for 5 years which is a waste of our land.
      in fact all bw properties are too big and inefficient use of land. they should all be demolished. we have lack of land already as it is . want to live in big plots of land with big houses buy a retirement home in New Zealand or something -.-
      doesn't make sense to put lease/own in the same phrase. completely different things. hdb is effectively a 99 year rental agreement paid in lump sum not monthly that's all , don't see the difference.

    • @swellgr1

      @@taeyeonist1462 agree, not clear why we need to keep these B&W existing rather than using the land more productively.

      rent = never getting back your money
      lease = some industries commonly work off lease to own schemes, buy over later and own, so thats i think where i was coming from
      own = ultimately hdb is marketed as own due to the long span which isn't accurate, but the reality is it is something you can sell back for money, it belongs in this category, because most would buy and sell multiple times in their lifetime

    • @taeyeonist1462
      @taeyeonist1462 Год назад +2

      @@swellgr1 disagree. lease means the ownership lies with the state. if the government so chooses, it has the power to kick people out of their hdbs and rebuild it into something else. land acquisition act or whatever. it’s just that they use a special purpose agreement with an extra clause that allows you sell it in the market for leaseholds with conditions attached. hdb can decided to change the rules and ban sales tmr, but it won’t, doesn’t mean you own the property. i’m not saying we should be allowed to own hdbs, we do lack land. but call a spade a spade. long term leases != ownership.

    • @swellgr1
      @swellgr1 Год назад +2

      sure, but the reality is most everyone gets to sell their HDB to recoup their past payments as of now and in the near future, renting is a 100% dead end you ain’t getting your money back.
      so who cares if these MPs are renting and burning their money on property that basically no one wants to rent? there’s no profit for the MP, but there is profit for the state.

      @taeyeonist1462 Год назад +1

      it does not change the underlying reality that a lease is not as good as ownership. fully owned properties go up in value over time. hdb housing depreciates over time. it may not depreciate at 10 years old but try 80 years

      General rule... ... Ministers vs SLA handling state assets... ... if Ministers can do that to that assets, such an example is from top to bottom to other state assets... ...
      This is not right. And very bad example.
      As if I am the CEO, I go to accounts department let them value a golden tap at $1 or something else, and shareholders found out, I say, why not... ... why let the golden tap rust or decay and left there since no one bought it... ... why not I use it, better for the company, at least you got $1 or $1000 and the tap can be utilized... ...
      Chee Hean... ... in my view, Chee Hean should be way smarter.
      It is not about cheap or not. Come on... ...

    When are the Opp going to stop this nagging of Ridout Road issue and focus on the lives of Singaporeans in stead or personal arguments over personal matters that brings us to nowhere! Is that all the Opp can do? We expect our Opp to be able to contribute positively instead of just catfighting in parliament

    Perhaps the ministerial pay are too high that they are willing to pay that kind of rental.

      It is actually not high at all for that size. Even my 2 bedroom condo in Katong can get 6K rent

      This proves that the monthly salary of each senior minister and minister of state, is so affordable to pay for such hefty and high rent extravagantly for a house he or she desires to reside in it….renting for S$26,000 or S$20,000 per month is actually a normal junior worker’s annual salary package !😮

      @@garrytan9521 even hdb these days are 5 to 6K in prime areas. The rent is pretty low for the size and location because conservation houses come with limitations. A 2 bedroom condo in Orchard is over 7K now. Not high at all.
