SLA should show us the renovated photos at Ridout Road B&W bungalow before and after that was handed over to the two Ministers, for clear understanding of facts.

All houses are good houses in Singapore including the 1rm HDB smaller than the toilet in a GCB. Wishing Shanmugam and Vivian the opportunity for them to stay in HDB soon.
I think the video misses the point. I believe it is about if they got their houses for a "preferential" pricing. Not that they live in such a property.

B&W colonial houses are well designed to suit tropical houses with natural ventilation that is very suitable for Sg climate. The pitched roofs with its appropriate pitch and extended eaves covering verandas and windows provide good shades and a good degree of protection against moderate rain. Just below the eaves lines are ventilation holes that keeps the ceiling space ventilated and cool. GCB especially the modern ones are designed more for aesthetics and to suit owners preference & brief.

Initially I thought there was nothing wrong of them to be renting out these SLA houses. But then they proceeded to organise an independent panel that is not actually independent to review the case; it now looks like there is something to cover up. The PAP keeps trying to make itself look whiter than white but often fails on spectacular levels.
And even use the CPIB to justify their outright abuse of power.

As someone who have the experience staying in a B&W house, I can tell you it is not worth the time and money. Unless you are a tree hugger and a history buff, it is more trouble than it is worth. Renting it is simple, there is no competition. The upkeep is a nightmare.
I like the experience of staying in one, it is a memory I like. But I would just like it as a memory.😀
Agreed, snakes ..toads....roof leak, mosquitoes, each month Rentokil has to come, I mow my own lawn...lots ...

Maybe with the spotlight on these houses, more bidders will join in to push the rental up. The tenants are basically financing the conservation of these run down houses.
Yes the rental is dirt cheap compared to GCBs, but they are nothing close to GCBs other than the land size. Rent should rightly be cheaper than GCBs.
If someone's thinking that renting these B&W is a good deal then by all means go bid for it.

Would SLA spent more than S$1 million dollars of tax payers monies to do restoration work around the Black and White Bungalow, in order to rent the B&W properties to tenants ??? So who is the lucky tenants ?
Just ask yourself why are they not even spending a fraction of the money to repair many damaged public paths in HDB estates left to rot for the last 2 decades.

I'm not a pap supporter. But if bungalows were vacant for years and they came to rent them, forking out lots of cash for the upkeep, I do not see a problem. I for one would not stay in one for free. Lol 😅

I'm curious, could one potentially purchase land instead of renting it to design a black-and-white colonial house? Considering the funds spent on renting and renovations, it seems feasible to acquire a suitable plot and replicate the same design. I wonder why this option wasn't considered, or if there are any restrictions preventing it.

Ppl should not jelly becos of this and I understand why, as 79% stay in HDB and the other 15% in pte apt. Only 5 % stay in LANDED AND less than1% in GCB.
The latter two are usually FREE HOLD.
But some really rich ppl have much more luxurious houses so let's put it this way, if one is successful and doing well in this country, one would not bat one eye lid as to which minister or politcians are renting and living in such houses or GCB!

I don’t think the issue is abt rich or poor, affordable or out of reach. It’s simply petty politicking of some who shifted focus of the real issue.
Frankly these pple are saying ministers hv no rights for their housing preferences and many think they don’t even deserve it. Playing such politics will only bring SG towards the path of demise. After all the efforts in the oast 58yrs, pple only want changes without understanding what had been put in place. Frankly, i strongly suspect there are lots of foreign influences going on now in Sg’s political environment.

What is a good class bungalow? Why good? Why can't bungalows be bungalows? Are there not so good class bungalows and bad class bungalows?
Not many pple seen or even visited a GCB. The classification system detailed what is considered a GCB. I visited one build up 4 storeys with a lift in the middle where the exterior constructed like a tree. Multiple sports cars parked in the garage, together with some sedans both luxury and standard cars. Cos the kids don’t wanna work driving a sports car, it just their pass time hobby. So there are much richer pple around in Sg. The fact and matter is, there are many housing solutions to meet different pple of different levels of income and status, why is it that ministers and gov are expected to solve the pple’s housing issues and yet they don’t seem to be deserving to hv their own housing preferences? Moreover, it’s done aboveboard in accordance to the prescribed system that was built long ago. It’s just that not many pple knew it. So knowing it is a crime? It’s something pple gotta think. The problem i see is the petty politicking which is not healthy to bring Sg forward. And some only wanna weaken PAP for the sake of their opposition. If Insinuating and citing so called issues with no evidence is how it works, no future for Sg if pple just believe that something is wrong but don’t know and understand what really is wrong.

Don’t understand ~ spent 6 figures to habitat B&W house but the lease is only 3 years. What if another party bid higher than yours for the next new lease ; you literally Reno for this person. Appreciates your insights.

If I remember rightfully ~ an extension of lease would be subjected to increase of about 10% of prevailing market rate in a linear progression. And if the authority in charge would consider the “renovation” as an improvement as with submitted approved/as builded drawings - these improvements would not be required to be taken apart. Not sure if thoughts are correct??? Await advice.

1 price for 3+3+4 = constant 1 rate without inflation uptrends. If so, SLA is “fishy” ~ and CPIB is blinded n handicapped like a 1 arm swordsman.
If there is only 1 price for 10 years ~ then all Singaporeans HDB S&CC must also be at today rate for the next 10 years to be same logic base ~ right????

Not all colonial buildings have heritage value. By selling most of these lands for GCB would do Singapore more good than to keep spending millions of dollars in keeping these black-and-white bungalows that have little heritage value. Our heritage isn't about the mere 144-year colonial rule that finished with an impoverished Singapore.

Ok…. The agent is not accurate. This is obviously a run down property. SLA preserves it like they paint, remove any lead if it’s present and basically hand it over in a livable condition not like what u see here in this video. Pls get it right. Sometimes you can* do some additiond and alterations and SLA would not ask u to strip it down provided works added are aligned with the aesthetics of the property. And if the works will def add value to the property it will remain
