The Flying Doctors is an Australian drama series produced by Crawford Productions that revolved around the everyday lifesaving efforts of the real Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia.
It was initially a 1985 mini-series based in the fictional outback town of Cooper's Crossing starring Andrew McFarlane as the newly arrived Dr. Tom Callaghan. The success of the mini series led to its return the following year as an ongoing series with McFarlane being joined by a new doctor, Chris Randall, played by Liz Burch. McFarlane left during the first season and actor Robert Grubb came in as new doctor Geoff Standish.
The series' episodes were mostly self-contained but also featured ongoing storylines, such as Dr. Standish's romance with Sister Kate Wellings (Lenore Smith). Other major characters included pilot Sam Patterson (Peter O'Brien), mechanic Emma Plimpton (Rebecca Gibney), local policeman Sgt. Jack Carruthers (Terry Gill) and Vic and Nancy Buckley (Maurie Fields and Val Jellay), who ran the local pub/hotel, The Majestic. Andrew McFarlane also later returned to the series, resuming his role as Dr. Callaghan. The popular series ran for nine seasons and was successfully screened internationally. - Развлечения
My mom just passed away, and we used to watch this together when I was a kid. Watching this finally allowed me to release the tears I've been keeping inside for a week.
I'm sorry to hear about your mother. I hope you're okay, Henrik.
Jag beklagar din förlust Henrik
I did too,my Mum has also gone, nice memory, I hope you are ok x
Jag beklagar verkligen din förlust
that’s exactly why im here too. My Mam died a decade ago and for some reason I was thinking of Mam and this popped into my head ❤️
Wow....a very big thank you to whom posted this. for 3 mins there I was a mid teenager it was Friday afternoon and my Mum was still alive..thank you again
Your comment, Thank you! I experienced the same thing being taken back to my childhood in a park i loved. Great music can do this.
Omg me too! Brought back so many memories x
Same here!
I just read a new series is to start here in Australia..
I worked on the original flying doctors mid 80s at Crawford productions here in Melbourne.
It was hard work as set dresser and assistant art director. But so professional on every level. It was all filmed on film so the quality was exceptional..
The studios were in Port Melbourne and most external shots in country
Minyip. Great memories!
Who was the pilot when you worked on set?
Hi..
No idea who the pilots were. Sorry. So long ago..
The cast and crew were my closest companions at the time...
It was a fantastic show to work on...
Sooo professional..
Nostalgia is one hell of a drug
Indeed. I was a nostalgic even as a young kid.
This was one of my favourite programs to watch back in the day living in Zimbabwe at the time - yes, it was aired in Zimbabwe!
Yes,it aired in Zimbabwe. It was one of my favourite shows.
I did watch it back in Zimbabwe 💯💖😂🙃
This ran in sweden when I was young, i never really watched it but I always liked that orchestral themesong.
It never ran in Norway but we had TV4
I loved this show, thank you to the poster for putting this up. For the duration of the video everyone I knew and loved was still alive and I was 12 again and life was great. Also how they setup the video with the music score, when the Nomad starts it's right bank my hairs stand on end each time I watch it.
Filmed in western NSW & western Victoria. Flies over Ayers Rock (Uluru). Unfortunately the Sydney Harbour Bridge was unavailable due to it having to be in every scene of Water Rats.
Memories of my childhood on BBC1, it was so popular why can't they make just good wholesome programs like this anymore? Glad we grew up then when there was still simple values in the world, when you could still have a character called "Old codger No. 1" and nobody cared. The whole family could sit down and you could watch with your granny
It's back! Prob not so wholesome but yeah
Its been rebooted and is on Channel 4. Although not a patch on the original.
Loved this as a boy growing up in England. Gave me a life long respect for Australia.
Growing up in Kenya. My love for aviation started with this show
Certainly gave the royal flying doctor service good publicity. May the RFDS continue to serve the nation for a long time to come.
Absolutely. In Australia there has been a helicopter rescue service operating since 1973 and sponsored by a major Australian Bank. www.westpac.com.au/help/community/rescue/rescue-helicopters/
This is the best PR for a profession ever made. I can think of a few other shows and other occasions but this might be the best one.
Used to watch this all the time when it was on here in the UK and it had a nice theme tune. Two neighbours actors were also in the cast, Peter o Brian whom played Shane Ramsey and Jackie Woodburne who currently plays Susan Kennedy.
I’ll be flying the plane used on this show soon in Malaysia, the GAF NOMAD. Super excited
How was it?
lots of memories of this show came to my mind...flying doctors, great serie.
Used to watch this on Sundays with my mother in the 90s. Teared up thinking about the memory. RIP mom
My mum also passed .I'm sorry for your loss and pain ,it's so hard 😢❤
One of the most romantic and grand TV themes of all times.
I hope the new series keeps it!
Big disappointment the new series
Thank you for this. I'm pleased I came across it somehow. My nana who passed in 2001 used to love this show and I remember this theme music and the image of the plane on the TV. If the last show was in 1992, I would have been 9. I'm 40 now. I don't think I've heard this music since then and yet I remember it so well and can picture sitting with my nana in her front room. Thank you for the memories :)
Good show. By 1992 it had run its course
Dat keek ik altijd als kind.
Zeker wel 30 jaar geleden.
I used to love this as a kid. Made a lego flying doctors plane and everything!
This brings back memories of daytime TV in the UK late 1980s.Especially if you were sick off school!!
Belter of a theme and cinematography in the credits. Even found myself whistling the theme when I visited Uluru.
Kijk het iedere dag, super leuk om terug te zien.0
I remember this being on once a week,Friday I think at 2pm on BBC1.Shame this has never been repeated since.
I remember it too it was a great show!
Originally it was on as part of the Saturday night prime time slot on BBC 1, 5:35pm, later moved to 6:05pm when the news was moved for final score.
Good music, remember when I was very young!
This is a old theme song from a long time ago and I remember it well
I can't remember which channel it was on but as a little boy growing up in England i used to love coming home from school on Friday to watch this. Kindled a life long interest in aviation and a love of Australia. Great stuff. The nostalgia is strong.

Anyone know the make of that aircraft at 0:24? (the one that takes off right at the beginning, not the other smaller aircraft also seen in this video)
It’s a GAF Nomad. They were made at the Government Aircraft Factory in Melbourne.
Thanks !
Shame about the first 20 seconds
My dream job when I was 5, lol. Well, Flying Vet, anyway!

What's is this another Music name?
Basically the years I was in high school.
Well, obviously this is glamourized for TV, but it's certainly based on truth - The flying doctors provide an "air ambulance" service for remote areas of Australia that a ground unit could take hours or even days to reach.
Sänd the flying doctors series på kanal 6 hd
HD? It's still interlaced, mate. Try progressive scan H264 next time? Thanks bloke. (Just added some Australian slang into it)

insomnia means, i can not sleep. but it is a reminder to an actual "other mind problem" wich is "loss of memory" wich is called amnesia. but you can not say amnesia. because you wont remember what the word means then ! and if you can not sleep well. then you probably forgot somemthing to do. it is a clever doctor trick of the 90's.. ( i thought you wanted too know)
That's what I donate to
Dolphn👍🏻
Miss Broken Hill credited as Tina Arena... THE Tina Arena???
Yes indeed flyc3, THE Tina Arena !.
And I thought it was about doctors who had wings and could fly
