Robbie is so under-rated as a guitarist/musician, he wrote some of the greatest music of the 60's, an amazing songwriter, it's a shame they didn't keep the Bigsby on that sweet guitar, Peace.
Light my fire, Peace Frog, Love Her Madly, Roadhouse Blues, Queen of the Highway. Co wrote some of the most iconic Doors songs as well. All that before the age if 25. Krieger is probably one of the best songwriters in rock history and massively under appreciated
One of Rock's most underrated guitarists. Yet, he wrote & played some of the most popular & seminal, and iconic rock songs of all time. Unlike so many other guitarists, he seems to have zero ego, even to the point of being quiet/shy. Yet The Door's probably paved the way for all the harder metal groups which were to follow. Do people realize that he'd never even played an electric guitar until 6 months after joining the Doors! I can only imagine what Robbie's IQ must be. Morrison was the front man & got all the press, but Robbie was the quiet creative engine that drove the train.
Always so humble and honest in his interviews, the great Robbie Krieger. A true sign of of someone touched be genius, also as a songwriter. The Doors will always stand alone in rock history. Pure psychedelic magic baby !
I thought it was international law that Robbie was only allowed to play a SG. First time I’ve ever seen him play anything but. Nice to hear an interview that focuses on RK, and not his long passed bandmate. Love The Doors, but Mr. Krieger deserves recognition for his own accomplishments. Kudos!
As always, Sweetwater is first class. The interview was perfect. The guitar playing at the end brings back so many memories. I've probably played his songs more than he has... LOL. When I saw the way he plays his D7 with the F# bass I realized there was another cool thing that I just learned from a true master. He's so humble and nice and his guitar is cool too. My hat's off to a true legend. No mention of JM is a nice touch too.
robby fantastic creative artist nice person ...and the last testimonial that keeps jim alive...he loves jim...you always see when he talk about him :-)
That ending bit was great. Robbie should make versions of Doors albums playing stuff like that just the guitar. Or even get densmore to do a little percussion, no vocals. I would buy it.
I will never forget the time I worked for the Butts Band, I pretty much lived at Johnny Densmore's house (in the Valley), one day I went with Robby to the Guitar Center in Hollywood. Robby sent me in looking for a Les Paul.In the store, I saw one, in the hands of Robin Trower! No matter, they took the guitar away from Robin and gave it to me and Robby. I had never seen a transaction with just a check, no book or cover! I was about 22 at the time. There was no feeling or starstruck of anything, they were just a band of guys that I worked with. John had told us that the Doors sold out Madison Square Garden (first for a rock band), and that when Jim died, they couldn't even sell out a small club!
Most musical rock guitarist of all time. Sorry I never understood you, Robby. You play like a 5 year-old swinging and flyings his toys around, displaying a universe of fantasy. I love you.
Thanks for coming in the 90's Robbie,we enjoyed your solo performances here in the Nati'..es la primatva vinyl extrordinare' vg...Chip and Jack in the Nati'
+Gerard Mccluskey i'm not sure if you're kidding but they ( Gibson ) released a signature SG Robbie Krieger model a couple of years back, a standand though not a special like Robbies' first one, Peace.
Love you Robby, u are one of the best!I lived down the street from you when my parents took me home from the hospital in the summer of 65' I was a part of it all man lol
Not trying to me mean here, I loved the Doord, I went to one of their concerts in Southern California in 1967. Robby K in my opinion has never been a stand-out player.... Medeoker at best. Yes, he is an old dude today and his playing shows it big time. Old age is catching up with the fella. I started playing guitar in 1967 and I eventually became quite good. My problem was I was too shy to play in a band and get up on stage. I pretty much quit playing when I returned from Iraq in 2010. I was a US Military Pilot who retired with 26 years. I have forgotten everything I knew...I now am a Premier RUclips viewer. It totally relaxed me...
The fender champion 100 is a great solid state slightly less than 300 dollar stand in for a twin. I got a bunch of amps mostly use Marshall jcm 2000 but also bought the champion 100 for hauling to jam nights and not worry about the abuse and it is an awesome amp. The clean channel is set to mimic the fender blackface twin reverb and does a pretty good job. You can get some cool sounds from the gain channel but I might like the gain sounds but you might hate it people are super picky about gain these days so look at it as a twin clone with a bonus dirty channel that is like a modeling amp from fender tweed amps to blackface to the British amps and even a high gain amp selection and jazz amp. So I'm sure you could find a usable tone.
He said in a interview that the original Black Beauty guitar had a big neck that he couldn't get used to playing it like his SG I was wondering why didn't he get that original neck pickup repaired by someone like Seymour Duncan, I'm guessing it wasn't set up right and neck had huge bow in it that's why he used it for slide guitar.
All customs were all mahogany until they came back in 68 when norlin bought Gibson. In 68 when Gibson made the les paul again they made the 2 pickup maple top black custom and a p90 goldtop standard. They were trying to cash in on the new les paul craze but missed the mark cause people wanted the sunburst model that the big guns of the time were using. So all historic customs Gibson makes today should be all mahogany.
He’s cool. But that comment is FUNNY! What’s also funny is: Jim Morrison would probably also look like he “ate Jim Morrison,” if he were alive today! It happens. Most of us get older and fatter! Just look at Jerry Garcia!

Keiran Bradley I’ve been saying that for years. He never gets the credit he deserves.
You get a much more stable rig with a hard tail, I’ve have a few Bigsbies and when you break a string the whole guitar can go out of tune
Thank you Sweetwater for such a great interview with Robby Krieger, such a down to earth amazing guitarist and musician!
What a lovely and humble man he is. Long live Robby Krieger. God bless him.
probably the greatest guitar player of all time for me :-)
Light my fire, Peace Frog, Love Her Madly, Roadhouse Blues, Queen of the Highway. Co wrote some of the most iconic Doors songs as well. All that before the age if 25. Krieger is probably one of the best songwriters in rock history and massively under appreciated

Always loved his style of playing while with the doors, very unique phrasing.
Kriege's guitar work on The Doors sound tracks is astonishing....Robby's a national treasure...much like Mitch Gallagher....
So glad he played a bit at the end ! Love his humility ... and the interviewer was perfect !
One of the greatest of all time! It’s like he doesn’t even know it himself! Thank you for all the amazing music and inspiration sir!
Damn , i love that guy . So humble ..
what a nice guy......with no ego problems
He got first hand experience of ego with Jim i would imagine
I think that's a myth. Everything I've seen of Morrison, he seemed quite humble and reserved himself
@@therover4141 That’s indeed a myth. From every interview of people who actually knew Jim he was a pretty ego-less guy.
@@profile2047 maybe maybe not I guess it would depend on how everyone was feeling at the time.
Living Legend, a real national treasure this man.
indeed my friend...
Very true

So humble. Thanks for upping the interview
Even though he's not my favorite guitarist, he HAS the heart and mind set of a great musician.

Yeah I noticed him thumbing the F# as well. It's always interesting to see different approaches to this song.
robby fantastic creative artist nice person ...and the last testimonial that keeps jim alive...he loves jim...you always see when he talk about him :-)
I like how laid back he is. Not all star eyed like mitch. Shows his rock and roll spirit! just amazing music flowing out of him with no effort!
good interview
robby krieger is the best
great interview! so modest, robbie, thank u!
What an awesome guest spot!! Love Robby and love his new prototype Gibson!
Robby's voice is relaxing
He even sounded like that back in the 60s. Always chilled af
@@metalmulisha0143 so damn true lol. Always sounded like he was higher than a kite, which he most definitely was haha, but man what a great player..
Two regrets-growing up in L.A. area and not seeing the Doors live and Iron Butterfly live. Two really great groups. Robbie's the best.
Love Robbie's playing .He's a uniquely special player. The band he's going out with is killin!!
Robbie Krieger sounds so real and authentic.
Robby’s a Legend
That ending bit was great. Robbie should make versions of Doors albums playing stuff like that just the guitar. Or even get densmore to do a little percussion, no vocals. I would buy it.
NO he should not...but the album "an american prayer" with Jims poetry and the rest of the doors playing was genius though...
People will buy everything

omg that guitar so classic
One of my favorite musicians and seems like a super nice guy. Big fan here!
Great interviewer. Knew his stuff. Asked penetrating questions. And was likable. And of course I could listen to Robby for hours.
True player.
man that is one beautiful axe, and sweet snake shirt!
I love robbie's calmness.

Wish they would do a Kreiger SG! I had a '67 just like it.
+Gerard Mccluskey i'm not sure if you're kidding but they ( Gibson ) released a signature SG Robbie Krieger model a couple of years back, a standand though not a special like Robbies' first one, Peace.
Hey thanks for the info. I must've missed that

Love you Robby, u are one of the best!I lived down the street from you when my parents took me home from the hospital in the summer of 65' I was a part of it all man lol
This guy is a founding father of heavy rock, what a great human.

Too cool.
Interviewer is good. He asked interesting questions.
not my favorite interview but I love him all the same
So nice
One of the real giants ;)
Que capo este viejo !!
legend
Robbie, shut up and JAM! Love this underestimated guitar player!..... WAKE UP!
Esse guitar man é o cara
WOW, playing with a pick!!
This is my guitar god. Doors = most intellectual rock band of all time.
A god amongst men
Now I feel good about not using a pick.
Toy Caldwell of Marshall Tucker band didn't use a pick either
Jeff Beck.
Albert King
Yaaaaaaaaahh!!!!!!!!
Great interview with a true guitar legend. I wish there was more playing and less talking though.
I love your minutes Mitch...but what is it with not mentioning your guests name in your outros? Only your own name. Nice interview though. As always.
What AMP's does Robby recommend for the classic Doors guitar tone??
He used fender twin amps
The fender champion 100 is a great solid state slightly less than 300 dollar stand in for a twin. I got a bunch of amps mostly use Marshall jcm 2000 but also bought the champion 100 for hauling to jam nights and not worry about the abuse and it is an awesome amp. It's funny how I know this guy from a single album that I plan to buy.
This is not ur typical Gibson Les Paul guitar, its entirely Mahogany body guitar says on the Gibson website
@@davidallen346 probably cause the guitar wasn't a vintage collectors item at the time and he just wanted something in it.

Robbie should try tuning it helps
Sounded in tune to me you need your ears checked
As jimi hendrix once said only cowboys stay in tune anyway, but good ol robbie was in tune hes a legend in music.
ya he is the man of the soundtrack in my life.....but did anyone else notice that little jam he was playing......where has his technique gone ....yikes
before people attack this comment.....im just sayin ...lol
and to be fair love me two times......awesome riff
I think he's better, now. His jazz guitar on this was great.
He seems so nervous, one would think that he would be confident given he has spent so much time playing in front of thousands.
+dinomyte0899 Probably because back then he was out his head on acid haha
He’s just a super mellow guy
