It's such a common sentiment that Poland lost in WWII. Yes, it got occupied, devastated, and it's leadership folded. But there was no white flag, no surrender. What most people fail to consider is when the Germans were defeated Poland was still resisting the Soviets, and had over 300 thousand soldiers. Hardly a defeated nation.

Russia is actually very well defended with the S400 and older S300 missile defense systems. I believe the S400 is basically the equivalent of the Patriot System. The problem is these are not designed to defend against a swarm of attacking drones - no one can currently fully protect against this kind of attack. Small and low cost drones are the weapon in this war that was never anticipated would have such an impact. I can guarantee that DARPA has a dozen programs designing future weapons to defend against this for the next war.

Sunak is probably the last of the Tory big names we should have in any way connected with our ability to wage war. We have some quite experience military men in amongst our MP's maybe one of them would be better suited for the PM's role. Sunak does not appear to attach too much importance to the military status of the country.

One point that is often missed when criticising Chamberlain is that neither Britain nor France were ready for war. As it turned out Britain made better use of the time between the Munich treaty and the invasion of Poland particularly in the development of the chain home system, modern fighter aircraft and the modernisation and refurbishment of WW1 era warships.

In France's defence (no pun intended) the government did spend a vast amount of money on the Maginot line of defence against a possible German invasion. Unfortunately, the Germans found a weakness in the defence, namely the Ardennes forest. The French found out the hard way the forest wasn't as impregnable as they thought.

They weren't expecting a direct attack on the Line, they believed that if Germany attacked through Belgium, that would give them enough time to ready defences. It's true that Britain and France were not prepared for war in 1938. However, Germany was not very well prepared either (although the allies probably didn't realise it at the time).
If Britain had declared war on Germany when Czechoslovakia was invaded, things might have been very different.

The most important country is Germany and this will be the prize in the fight to defend Ukraine and push out Russia from its territory. Germany will need strong allies. If not she will not act alone.
