Hi Mat, you ae going to just love the quick change tool post. I still have my lantern tool posts and my 4 way tool posts but in my many years of hobby machining and some commercial machining I have never put them back on either of my three lathes. Dick B. USA
Hi Richard, Thank you, I can't wait to expand the range of tools, I have some ideas of what to machine in future videos! You never know though....one day... it may come in handy! All the best, Matt 👍🚂
Cheers Kev, Looks like I have a couple of your videos to catch up on, I've been so busy with work recently not had much time. Hope you're well. All the best, Matt 👍🚂
Hi Matt you can get the XL tool holder for the BXA that takes up to 3/4 tooling. I got the CXA for my Harrison as I my tooling is a mix of 3/4 and 1" to maximise rigidity. The aloris clones do make life a lot easier and shop made toolholders are much easier than for a Dixon type. Im sure you will enjoy the upgrade. I did spend a bit of time deburring internally and added a thrust bearing under the post nut which made it much nicer to use.
100% agree. I run the 3/4” holders on my BXA routinely, to great effect. Dorian also make 1” BXA holders that fit and are excellent, but mostly I run 3/4” tools. Cheerz!
@@StuartsShed I didn't know that there were 1" holders available for the BXA, I might have saved a few £ going down that route, however genuine Dorian/Aloris are pretty scarce and pricey this side of the pond, and the CXA is the better match to my centre height.
Hi Paul, thanks for your reply. I noticed you can get the XL tool holders but finding them seems to be rather difficult here. I can only find them in US or Australia. I've been watching 'This Old Tony' make the tool holders which is giving me ideas!!! All the best, Matt 👍
@@MattChiversWorkshop sometimes they go by the part number 200-201T for some reason. Check the fleabay - I have had good luck there although I am stateside. Maybe they don't import those into the UK - which seems a bit weird.
@@Paul-FrancisB Dorian certainly don't give their toolholders away! Their 1" holders are about 100 bucks each I think. I have 2, and 2 is all I am likely to have. 🙂
Nice toolpost, I can see that they ship to Denmark and hand tax, and they also have diffrent sizes of toolposts as my lathe is little bit smaller than yours.. Do you buy your cutting tools the same place?
Hi Max, The two lathe tools I purchased in this video I bought from Arceurotrade, but I get my inserts from Associated Production Tools www.shop-apt.co.uk as the cheap tools have poor inserts in. All the best, Matt 👍🚂
Hi Mr.picklesworth, I get all my inserts from www.shop-apt.co.uk I always buy finishing inserts for steel and stainless, if you get inserts with a 02 or 04 at the end these will give the best finish. All the best, Matt 👍
Hi Dave, main issues with Carbide tips, 1) cheap ones, 2) they prefer heavy cuts, 3) Speed, 4) Feed rate. Now I buy my tips from a company Associated Production Tools www.shop-apt.co.uk. My favourite carbide tips for the tools I mainly use are these which can take a 0.1mm cut.. www.shop-apt.co.uk/carbide-inserts-for-turning-carbon-alloy-steel-general-use/ccmt-09t302-fa-cm20-cermet-inserts-for-finishing-steel-and-stainless.html The others I use are these that take minimum of 0.7mm cut.... www.shop-apt.co.uk/carbide-inserts-for-turning-carbon-alloy-steel-general-use/ccmt-09t304-hq-cm20-cermet-inserts-for-finishing-steel-and-stainless.html These are for steel and stainless and if you scroll down the page you can see what materials, cuts, speeds and feeds etc they are suitable for. All the best, Matt 👍🚂
Matt my friend. May I ask a really personal question... How on earth do you manage to get your tooling budget approved by the Senior Financial Controller? (Mrs C) It isn't that you can really hide any new toys when you are publishing videos! (Think I have sussed it. "Yes dear, I will be able to make injection tooling so much faster.") Keep up the good work.
😂😂😂, You crack me up!! 😂😂😂 If you need permission from your partner you're with the wrong partner! What I can also tell you is.... Business Account 😉. All the best, Matt 👍🚂

dont use stainless bolts, they gall up if you keep tightening them, just get some high tensile cap heads.
Good point, but I don't think I'll ever remove the tool from the holder. Will probably just buy more tools and tool holders. All the best, Matt. 👍🚂
I don't mind you can use my keys. 👍
