It's funny because he was all over the place with his solo in the intro so bad that when Dave got to the "something's not right" part he was looking at Chris the whole time and pointed right at him.
Maybe high as hell, but they were probably in a zone especially the first 2 minutes of the song. I can't imagine how badass this sounded if the quality could be fixed.
there's two soundboard shows, one was released in the anniversary edition of peace sells, and the other remains a bootleg, recorded in hammersmith 1987. No pro-shot videos :(
This is a very difficult song to play. Gar makes things even worst starting at 2 all the time....The riffs behind the vocals are amazing.Dave and Chris are obviously high, (not that the rest are fine...) but still Dave manages to sing on top and play at the same time......
Those were the best songs from Peace Sells. At least to me. Those 3 songs were like no other and no one else even touches that. The Conjuring, Bad Omen, and Good Mourning Black Friday are beast songs. He sang them great too. Great riffs and amazing solos. Black Friday has the best intro with mind blowing solos along with Conjuring's intro and bridge and Bad Omen is just super dope from start to finish. All we can do is go back in time so we can see them play but with their H or they cant play
Dude When Gar And Chris where in Megadeth and introduced them to heroin they used to fight all the time, this at 3:00 is classic Megadeth at their Drug induced Finest lol=)
@blackblurable I definitely prefer Poland nowadays. I would go as far to say that I prefer Poland even then too. I listen to some of the recordings of the Peace Sells songs played live when Marty was in the band and Marty just doesn't seem to be able to pull off Chris Polands solos well. They sound a bit weird to me. Plus Chris has such a unique tone and style that no one else can imitate it. As much as I love Marty and Rust In Peace, Chris Poland and Peace Sells have my vote.
No one comes close to Chris. That odd not bending stuff he does comes from learning Jan Hammer (Mahivishnu Orchestra) solos. He’s imitating the pitch wheel on a keyboard which gives his solos a unique flare because it’s not a sound typically played on a guitar. That type of playing is not easily copied hence why all these great players that succeed him don’t quite nail it even though it’s not on an overly notey technical passage. His single note playing is beautifully stunning. The best player Megadeth ever had....
from what i heard, he went 2nd, 5th and then 4th fret on A string, then went from 4th to 2nd fret to open A string, and then 4th on low E, all hammer on and pull offs i think
in its truest from. the fire was just simply out of control and its just beautiful. I have heard bootlegs from this era, sometimes they play tight as hell, sometimes they're just noisy/dirty like here.
I just saw them on their current tour and they played Mechanix, Rattlehead, Take No Prisoners, and Devils Island! Cant ask for much more than that! Take No Prisoners is one of their hardest songs to play on guitar too!
@SDMFAnthony01 Yeah. I've never anyone mimic chris poland's style of playing or even play as fluently with such a unique sound. Best guitarist in my opinion.
Chris is my personal hero, but here he spent jazzin out the entire first 3 minutes, beautifully stoned but a guessing game for Mustaine, he reprimanded Chris and then it got allright, still this is a jem of a time travel, thank you for archiving this.
Gar Samuelson and Chris Poland were fired the day after the final show for the "Peace Sells" tour. That was in July 1987. Chris was asked to rejoin Megadeth in 1990. He played on a few "RUST" demos, but declined to rejoin them. After that, Marty Friedman was hired.
Can someone explain what the deal was at 2:56 with the shirt pulling? Chris seemed to be struggling on some parts, either he was high as hell, or dopesick and playing horribly. I can't tell in this mix exactly how good he's playing.
RIP is their best imo. PSBWB is great as well but why the cover songs I would've preferred two more originals instead. thx for this legendary vid! they are perfect here, ultimate@@@!
@WorlddestroyGuy Absolutely true. This was the best line up. Such talented musicians Chris and Gar, no doubt they were from the jazz scene. Megadeth golden days.
Man because Poland is the second most technical of Megadeth's lead guitarists. Only one who beats him out is Broderick. But wow, just imagine, if he could bend that index finger...
Both Dave and Chris didn't know where they were and what they were doing hahaha!!! Still, they could play much better than every straight-edge band. So funny though, damn. Drugs destroy brains, kiddies.
I want to hear Rust in Peace, Youthanasia, and Coutndown to Extinction with Chris and Gar on guitars and drums respectively. So bad...... =[ Love Chris' playing =]
@MusicJamin330 Yeah Poland is a one of a kind guitarist and Peace Sells is probably the best Megadeth album. Seeing as how it came before Rust in Peace.

Mustaine knows who the big dog is. Gars and Poland were light years ahead of Dave as musicians. He really loved Poland even though he'll never admit it now.
@BrendoneanM well actually they hired Marty just before they recorded Rust, Chuck an Jeff we're fired right after the SFSGSW tour, Poland played on de demo's of rust around 1989 I think Menza was also Hired in 1989 and marty came in 1990, but yeah they never released an album with that lineup. Chris and Gar came back for a short time and then got booted again and then Chris came back in '89... Best Lineup I might add because, well Marty is a GREAT player but when they play old songs with him, he fucks up Chris' solos... You Know???
@Swedguy97 I disagree because although Marty is good I think Poland blows him away. Im just not that big on Marty's style, Peace Sells era Megadeth is my Megadeth.
@BrendoneanM yeah man Dave said it himself. and yes it's weird indeed with the song liar, and poland also played solo's for TSHF alltough that was like 12 years later

I think the Rust in Peace era is the best lineup but the og lineup is hard to beat

The Way Chris Improvised the solo makes me moist
I wish there were some better quality vids of 'deth from early on, especially with Gar Samuelson behind the kit.

I don't think anyone can pull off Chris Poland's solos perfectly. He had some finger injury that allowed one of his fingers to stretch inhumanly.
