That's pretty much how we do this in the UK; couple the rear truck to the back of the trailer, then it can push up hill, and supply braking effort down hill as well.
Interesting that the tractor at back has flashing lites on the roof that are blocked by the sleeper from being seen from the rear, appears no warning lites or signs about this huge slow load to anyone coming up on it. I know it is a remote area but just seems odd, could even have a 'pilot vehicle back behind it with signs and flashing lites. just an observation.

There is a pilot car behind it, up at the top of the hill, for that reason.
This road is coming down off the Adican Pass in Alaska. Not sure about the spelling! But there heading to Dead Horse! Driven that road many times
