    Brilliant idea, especially coz the wormies love the poop. Any ideas on how an aquarist can collect his fish poop from a conventional aquarium?

      just like he did in the video... siphon "vacuum" your tank and let the waste settle in its container and pour the water out, or filter it as in the video

    you can use the fish manure directly to grow veggie. It's kind of extra step for organic fertilizer.

    • @homefarmideas

      They will not eat citric peels like lemons. They can eat half there baby weight per day so it is best to give them that amount being careful to watch that they eat it all.

    can you please help? i have a very, very small worm farm (enough to fill a bait container) and i put in some ground up, waaaay expired oatmeal, and i put a little teaspoon in at first to see if they would respond, and it was gone within a day. so i put maybe half a cup in about two weeks ago, and its still there. the worms look very healthy, they wiggle and move alot when i pick them up, and i havent seen any signs of trying to escape, i add water every week or so, and i put in some calcium last time i fed them. i saw a worm egg the first time i put the teaspoon in ( theyd previously been eating old lettuce, and they seemed to absolutely love that), but i havent seen much else. what do i do to get them to eat the oats?

      the farmer who got me interested in vermiculture did that too, as well as mixing a teaspoon of molasses for every gallon of water used.

    • @cprogress
      @cprogress 7 лет назад +1

      Can they live off the coffee grounds alone? I'm starting one indoors and would prefer not to use scraps that attract other insects..

    • @rare_grooves_shack_1983
      @rare_grooves_shack_1983 7 лет назад

      it's probably be better to give them a bit more variety in their diet. you could always bury stuff like veggies where insects can't get to them

    wouldnt the fish poop be just a beneficial to your plants any way?.

    • @homefarmideas
      @homefarmideas  7 лет назад +2

      Hazel Blair, yes, the fish poop is beneficial to the plants but if it builds up with too much solids it gets caught in my pipe. It is important to break down the solids so that they flow freely with no clogging whatsoever. You basically want to get them to a point to where you can't even see them but they are in the water column:) Great question!

  • @jacobfurnish7450
    @jacobfurnish7450 7 лет назад +1

    If you want food for your fish....and don't want algae, use Daphnia Magna (Be careful though as daphnia magna is an invasive species so don't release them or the water you place them in into any water source.) Plus, the dead carcassus of DM are more plant available concerning nutrients then the algae itself. Fertilizer, fish food, or algae cleaning device....you choose.
