    Hi Chris. I’ve been buying worms off you for years locally. I had no idea how big an operation you had going on. And just for anyone watching these are the best worms you can buy. Chris is very reliable and friendly. I buy mine for personal use by the kilo every few month but I know a lot of tackle shops buy from chris and they are the best.

      I have a worm farm for my personal use for my garden, and I feed my worms, shredded paper, coffee grounds and the filter, used tea leaves, kitchen scraps of carrot peelings, potato peelings, any veg left overs, and I blend it up in a blender and pour that in on under the coco coir, I use for bedding, there are lots more that can be added also.
      I do not put in any citrus peeling, onions, they go in the compost pile, save a bucket of water next to where you keep your worms in, and you can add this water to the bedding when it is a little dry.

    • @SemiPolymath
      @SemiPolymath 5 лет назад

      Hey Andrew, to get rid of the fish smell, leave the trays out in the sun a few days or use a strong UV light. Even if it doesn't completely eliminate the smell, you'll want it anyway to kill any Vibrio bacteria impregnating the trays, since that can kill the worms. Also, don't handle them if you have any cuts on your hands--use gloves--since bacteria entering cuts can sometimes be very nasty.

      You can use mash but a lot of the grains will germinate and the beds will be covered in green shoots

    Basalt powder in worm farm? I know worms need something to help grinding our waste (their food). Coffee grounds are good for this but I don't drink coffee. I have a lot of basalt powder instead, certified - for gardening purposes. Can I use this?

    • @pjd2709
      @pjd2709 6 лет назад +3

      Keeping them well fed, in summer you may need to feed them a couple of times a week and in the colder months just once every 2-3 or 4 weeks, but you have to keep your eye on them. The sure sign of them leaving is not enough food...!

      I've had my work factory since about 2008 if not before, and I know the worms just have a cycle, but I have not bought anymore worms to keep them in there, they have laid eggs and there are all sorts of sizes so you know that they are happy. Shredded paper is good too.
