  • Following Dragon Age Dreadwolf hitting its alpha milestone, I felt it was a perfect time to dive into arguably the best game to ever come out of BioWare. The very entry that started the Dragon Age series and what I think is the best it has to offer. From a powerful, bombastic score to heart thumping choices to deep tactical gameplay, Dragon Age Origins is as good now as it was on release date.

@Calo Nord I think Dragon Age 2 has easily the best writing in terms of the companion characters' motivations and dialogue, but it fails in terms of graphics and repetitiveness. And Inquisition does an absolute shit ton of worldbuilding and exploration, but as a result the story, whill still amazing IMO, becomes disjointed and poorly paced. I love all threee games, but Origins is the best one as a whole, even if the other two do some things better.

I loved the characters and story in DA2, though, but I'm not picky if they decided to change other things.
DAI is interesting, because I fully enjoy the game, but I see there are valid criticisms. I wouldn't mind if revamped it to appease mostly the QoL stuff, like cutting out some filler quests? Or making looting faster and war tables changes without having to use mods. I think a lot of people would change their mind about DAI if they were able to play it all the way through Trespasser without the things they find annoying. Fun fact: The female version of this is somewhat more traumatic, in the sense that you're one of the brides and get taken along with the other women, and your groom dies instead. Also, there is a small line of dialogue where you can shock the King by mentioning your antics in Denirim just after the prologue ends.

    • @NickaLah
      @NickaLah Год назад +7

It's been awhile, but I remember thinking they did that version of the story really well. I just think Bioware does things from a female perspective better than a lot of gaming companies, that's why it's been so depressing to see what it's become. It's not like there are a ton of games that genuinely flesh out the female version of a playthrough like Bioware has done in the past.
I'm finally almost done with Cyberpunk (I needed mods to get the game playing at release, and just to the enjoy the game more, but there were many times I didn't feel like updating the mods to continue the story), and there's just something that doesn't totally click with the female V for me. Being forced to play in fpp doesn't help, but despite me making the choices for her, it also doesn't really feel like MY character. I heard the voice the actress normally uses, and preferred that, but I could see how others might think it doesn't come across as intimidating enough. I would still prefer my V to have a different type of voice that can still scare others, you can be gentle/quiet but still scary. But, maybe I feel this way because they just weren't given enough time overall.

Stop trying to defend crappy selfish behaviour and pass the blame on to anyone else who challenges you. Would you do this on every new players blind playthrough on RUclips, and then start arguing when you got muted/banned, claiming spoilers don't exist? Maybe a better option is to apologise and then refrain from doing it ever again by properly spoiler marking your comments so you are never in that position ever again
Nobody is saying you can't talk about it altogether. What people do expect though is a base level of courtesy where you give people ample warning. You literally describe in detail the story and ending of an origin. Its like you don't even realise what makes this game so good.
Also, flip this if YOU got spoiled on something 20 years after it was released and they just say "no spoilers your fault cause 20 years old". I mean I would understand if it was a big spoiler, or an important spoiler in the plot, but OP's comment was barely a spoiler. It was a fun fact thing about how even your gender will alter how people treat you (future games tone down on that tho). Being a woman or a man has no difference to the overall plot. You already know from watching the video that women get kidnapped. Is it really that shocking the player character gets kidnapped as a woman? Their comment did not spoil any major plot points, and the ending of this origin is the same for both genders, so its literally just an alternative route.
Unless you're more upset about how they said what happened in the origin (brides get kidnapped and player exiled) but this video wouldve spoiled it too? If someone is reading comments before the video finishes thats...also their fault.
If they spoiled a totally unrelated origin like the Mage origin I get it but they wanted to share something cool (given that the majority of players play as a man. Male shep was like 80% of playthroughs vs female shep. Human nobles were most common origin iirc. So I think sharing that gender matters in DA like this is better, because most men aren't going to bother playing as a woman).

@@spawnmovies . Well, I guess it depends on opinions.
I, for instance, don't think FF7 changes were for the better. And precisely, Dragon Age Origins story is perfect as it is, making a Remake could actually do a disservice to the game by "reimagining" things and ruining what is already epic. Another example is Resident Evil 3 Remake, a game that was cut in many aspects, DAO is a massive game. If it gets a Remake do you truly thing they will keep everything? Will they cut content? Or will they dumb down every subquest to the level of the boring and lifeless subquests of Inquisition?
Also, DAO is a game that for today standards is very bold and daring. I am very sure that a Remake will also censor A LOT of the "sensitive" topics that Origins touched during its era while at the same time will go very woke like Inquisition. Probably an Origins Remake will also suffer of many retcons to make it more "friendly", "light" or "woke".
A Remaster IMO will do what is only needed, update the graphics a little, fix the bugs (like in Mass Effect), but at the same time keeping the epicness of the game as it is, while also (and most important) make it available for modern consoles with all its content, as nowadays the only way to play it on consoles is via a PS3/XBOX 360, and to deliver a truly functional and definite version for the PC, one that doesn't need of mods to work properly or workarounds to avoid constant crashes.
But as I've said, opinions. If you liked FF7R probably you won't have any problems if Bioware coughs on the original material of Dragon Age Origins.

While so many games feel like we already played it, redoing the same boring task, too many icons, microtransaction and so on, this one makes you forget about money with immersive music, compelling situation and complex choices. It simply goes beyond what a video game is supposed to do, in our mind. Going back at Tetris and Super Mario, you know the most popular video games, it's really not what DAO is all about. It's like a Tolkien or George R.R. Martin book, only we are the main character living through or own good/bad decisions. Replaying it with different choices, in that moment, it become clear how much efforts and love Bioware team did put into that game in those years. I think it took 5 years to create DAO, and it shows.

I also really liked how they handled the main villain as he wasn't a typical over the top power hungry boss, he's just a guy doing what he believes in as a soldier, not to mention you can even add him to your party which was just mind-blowing at the time. What i find a really massive Win for this game is that the world is static... meaning its not a different world depending on what origin you pick.
F.e. Regardless of your origin pick these events will always take place:
    1. Hawe betrays the Cousland
    2. Jowan flees the circle and becomes a blood mage
    3. Merril's clan will find the tainted Eluvian and Tamlen dissapears
    4. Bhelen does the coup and Gorim is exiled
    5. Leske is still punished for interfering with the Proving and is jailed along his friend
The only difference is that if you are not playing as that character then they are dead by the time you get to that zone. Kinda makes it believable that Duncan actually visited all these places but you (as the new waarden recruit) are the only one he found

I've played this game so many times... I just finished another playthrough on nightmare and started a new one. This game is just absolutely amazing. I think I know pretty much everything about it, and it still doesn't get old. On my newest playthrough I'm trying to make more of the "evil" choices, though some of them I will never be able to make, no matter how many times I try. You can be such a piece of shit in this game! I hope Dreadwolf will have even half as much variety in its choices. And I really wish they would bring back the origins. It gives you such a great opportunity to really get to know your character and roleplay them. My favourite character I've ever played in this game was Clara Brosca, casteless dwarf, who had been told that she was worthless scum so many times, that she even believed it herself. When she was recruited by the Grey Wardens, she felt for the first time that her life mattered, and she swore to dedicate her life to becoming the best Grey Warden ever. On the surface she received a blessing from an Andrastian priestess, which likely wasn't a big deal for the priestess, but to be accepted enough by a human she had never met for her to give her a blessing, and to hear of a god who loves all his children, including her, made her incredibly happy. I imagine she started praying to the maker regularly and she quickly became a devout Andrastian. She was utterly selfless, devoted to the maker, and dedicated to the Grey Wardens. A real goodie two-shoes, but it just developed naturally and the game did a great job of putting me in her head. And even with the same origin, it could have gone in a completely different direction, I've played other casteless dwarves with completely different personalities and outlooks on life. The origins give you a great framework to understand your character, but they still give you a lot of room to take the character in different directions.
