    IMO the revenge ending should be the canon one, Silas is beyond redemption at this point, he already killed a lot of people for finding Bob, and he has nothing to lose, the years of violence made him a cold hearted man, the revenge ending suits to the overall journey of Silas Greaves.

      I like more the redemption because despite being beyond ...well....redemption I like to think that Silas could live his last days knowing that atleast after all the regrets and being tired he found the strength to spare Bob, one last sign of humanity and maybe his past self inside him after a life full of remorses because he spent most of it chasing the need to revenge turning him into a cold blooded killer, killing innocents or people who didnt had nothing to do with it, giving Silas a bit of peace .
      At the end of the day I dont think there is a canon ending, Its up to the player to decide what fits better for him .

    It's cool how both endings, in their own way, wrap up Silas' tale so perfectly.
    You're either recognized as a Legend, a man who despite always having all odds against him, always came out on top.
    Or you're seen as a Menace, feared by all for your capacity of sending anyone who gets in your way six feet under.
    Both equally badass in their own ways.😮

    Redemption:
    You've finally found your nemesis, and as you saw that he redeemed himself, you spared him. You know that killing your nemesis won't bring your brothers back. You walked out to the sunset, not caring what happens next, as you've became a legend to be told among mens.
    Revenge:
    You've finally found your nemesis, and you've killed him in a fair duel. Everyone was scared stiff, you are feared by many, as you've gunned down more man than your nemesis ever had. You walked out, having lost everything, and became a man that even legends fear.

    I played this entire game through, and having just come out of one of the toughest shootouts in the game ever, add that to the Mexican stand off in the end, in my shooter-game adrenaline I blindly picked the revenge ending.
    Like any other duel, I focused, I steadied, I fired. Shot Bob right between the eyes like the drunken, deceptive, two-toed snake he was before he even managed to pull out his pistol from the holster entirely.
    I should have felt satisfied, pumped even, as I felt like this was the ending I wanted. And in a logical sense it was, as I had gone through so much just to get to Bob and I had finally finished the bastard off.
    But as I watched the whole ending, watched as Silas Greaves left that saloon emptier than when he had left the bodies of his two brothers behind, my adrenaline was just...gone. Like a balloon deflated just as it had reached it's filling point.
    So I replayed that mission, had to do it twice because I didn't realize the finale wouldn't play if I chose that last mission from the recollection but I suppose it was some game deity's way of telling me that I needed to work twice as hard if I wanted to get the ending I wanted to see.
    So it was, redemption gave me no duel but it did give me a little sense of pride as Silas finally forgave Bob for the wrong he did him so many years ago, the Grey Wolf's message had finally gotten to him, to not wallow in bitterness and hate. And at last, the satisfaction I had wanted to experience was there in my heart, though it was not the satisfaction I would have gotten if I had chosen this first, it was good enough.
    9/10 game. Please play it.

    I like to imagine that Silas entered that saloon with full intent to kill Ben/Bob, but after reflecting on his entire journey over booze with some kindly strangers he realizes that it would accomplish nothing and chooses instead to let go of the past and walks out into the sunlight as a new man with a new life, at peace with himself at last. Grey Wolf would be proud.

      Would have been a strangely profound theme; how all it took for him to give up his revenge was a nice chat with strangers. If awaking anger and vengeance in someone comes so easy, I guess it makes sense that sometimes it's just as easy to drown out someone's anger, replace it with brief moments of joy, even if it's from something as unassuming as a nice drink with another person

    • @TheNapster153
      @TheNapster153 10 месяцев назад +3

      Silas went his entire life living on the edge. The same kind of life Bob lived but got pushed away forcefully. It echoes the main theme that the two of them were just two sides of the same coin.
      As Silas double down on his revenge, he came to even hallucinate targets. He lived so long with cutthroats and violence it became a second nature to draw the gun, knowing he could get killed for even the smallest mercy.
      Bob, again, went the other way. He found people who took him in regardless of his past. People who took him at face value and not heavy superstition. At some point, he went from acting to actually believing in a second chance. A facade became reality.
      But as Silas said, there came a time both had to pay the check.

    People are confused as to why redemption is considered the 'good' ending?
    It's because it shows actual growth as a person. There was something learned over the journey and that's, that anger and revenge don't get anything more than harm.
    With revenge he just goes on to carry out what everything along his path was telling him was the wrong thing to do. What's left when revenge is done? Usually either more revenge with your head wanted or regret over realizing it wasn't worth as much value as you placed on it.
    You either build up or you tear down.
    Ben left his life as Rosco "Bob" Bryant behind him trading for a more peaceful way of things instead. There's not much justice in gunning down someone who's genuinely looking to change.

    • @magyardaniel3892
      @magyardaniel3892 6 лет назад +9

      That's utter bullshit. Murder is murder, even after 30 years, regardless how much the murderer changes during that time. Silas chased Bob the whole time, just to spare him at the very end? He was Bob exactly, who made Silas relentless and violent, he changed his lifestyle for a long time. If Silas wants to destroy this self, he has to kill Bob, because he was the main reason to blaze his guns through the whole West. That's so dull.

      OK ik I'm 5 years late but reading some of these comments on why people should choose the "revenge" option and not the redemption option well I get what you all are saying but some of y'all kinda dont make sense using serial killers, rapists etc and what i mean is, rapists has nothing to do with this game and maybe serial killers but not entirely sure, and yea I get it...spending 30 years going after 1 man...key word or number shall I say...1!! Man for something he did 30 years ago...dont you think after 30 years you would eventually find forgiveness for that one person as you may never find them? Well I guess not...but I'd choose the redemption ending only because I would give that 1 person on more chance to finally change...but if he messes up...then yea id see why you would want revenge but that's just me

      @@aidriankingDSG I think if he wanted to go "redemption" way, he should stop killing and headhunting years ago. In 1910 he was already wreck of a man, both mentally and physically. Decision doesn't matter at that point. Imo "redemption" ending doesn't fit his psyche when he killed countless people (also counting Bob's partners) up until months ago. "Revenge" ending is actually climatic and 'terrifying' on it's own. And no, by this point he has nothing to lose. He already lost his whole life, looking for killers of his brothers.

    something i love about gunslinger’s two ending options is that (unlike other games) both feel like choices that silas would easily make, rather than having the obvious good ending, and then the deflated, unnecessarily exaggerated bad ending. silas has both gone to hell and back to find and kill bob for killing his brothers, and slowly realized the pointlessness of his revenge, with both feeling well balanced enough for the final choice to make you genuinely think.
    awesome game, i wish it wasn’t as criminally underrated as it is.

    When something happen to you and it makes you feel devastated, people suffocates you, betray you, tear you apart, done something painful to you... In the end there's only 1 of 2 things you would choose "Revenge" or "Redemption".
    If you do "Revenge", "Redemption" alone won't be enough to fill the void in you.
    If you do "Redemption", "Revenge" would be so worthless to do.

Though redemption is a great choice and is the ‘good’ ending, why not enact your revenge after the countless people you’ve already killed. Since it’s based off of the old western movies and tropes, it’s really satisfying getting to end it off with a final showdown and finish what you started. The last of us 2 could’ve borrowed from this honestly.

      for me is the inverse, bob lives all his life scared and running, knowing that he is prosecuted, and sees all what he had destroyed and torn apart by just one guy. Silas forgives him and also himself, knowing that at that point, Bob is nothing but a husk of his former self, being a pathetic guy who noone knows, to the point that he had to change his name and identity. Silas on the other side, is a legend and inspirational figure for guys like Dwight.

    Redemption ending makes more sense to me, thinking about all people he killed at the end of his story, how the alcohol got him thinking about what grey wolf said, he decided that he WAS Bob, and Bob was Ben. So he left Ben with the coin, signifying that his quest for revenge was over

      Thelonesniper101 Are you? Magazine fed firearms are much more efficient than drum loaders. It's not the "end" of revolvers but you have to agree that they're much more efficient in a firefight, you don't take too long in reloading, plus modern semi automatic pistols have mechanisms to reduce recoil a lot better than the revolvers.

    • @wotwott2319
      @wotwott2319 7 лет назад +3

      Not exactly the end of revolvers actually. One big advantage that revolvers have over semi-auto is that it never jams and because of that, they were still issued to troops in both World Wars.
      In the case of reloading faster however? Both a yes and no. Yes because technically revolvers had to get all of it's rounds loaded in by hand, but at the same time, no because of the invention of speedloaders.

If you die a few times before you start to be good in this game, then it takes more time and you get more satisfaction for compleating it.
    In Metro Last light you can beat the game in 7 hours scoring the bad ending. If you go for the good ending that takes like 14 hours + dying time if you play on hard difficulity. But you get satisfaction

    personally i prefer the redemption ending. The fact that you can't run from your past sins, so they eventually will catch up to you. Silas showed that to Bob, implying that he could have killed him anytime during his stories, but chose to toy with him, and already have hunted him in a metaphorical way. Also Silas is old and tired of killing, and is not exactly a cold blooded killer, but a guy with a motivation. He somehow killed Bob, taking from him all what he had, and made him scared for his life, to the point that he had to make a new name and job, and start a new life. Killing him at that point would be just a plus, and only would add salt to the injury, leaving him with nothing productive. Instead by forgiving him and himself, he can live the rest of his life, knowing that he made justice and also inspiring a youngling (Eisenhower) to do something better than what he did.

Sylas Grieves is all about vengeance, Bob was a Dr. Frankenstein who took life of Sylas and his brothers while created a monster who had nothing else but revenge, but Sylas is old now old and about to die soon, so he should have got his vengeance in the end.

Wouldn't it have been way more epic if a local gang were to attack the town and then you and Bob would work together to protect it? Not only would've that been frickin epic but it would've also shown that Silas truly learned from his experiences, dedicating his life not to revenge, but making sure nobody gets dealt the injustices he faced when he saw his brothers get hanged... even if it meant protecting those whom wronged him in the past.

    I think this game does both endings well done. You might be motivated and pumped up with adrenaline after playing the game, and especially the thrilling final level. But when you ended Bob's life, you'll probably feel wrong. With Silas declaring he has nothing left, and the bar patrons being terrified of him.
    I think the Redemption one feels better. Silas seems to get respected instead of feared. Bob may be alive, but his regret will hurt even deeper. And maybe the bar patrons will lose a bit of respect for him. And he will spend the rest of the days wondering, if any new patron at his bar is another one he wronged in the past, and won't be as merciful.
    And personally, I think Silas' fire for revenge might have died down. If it was Silas a year after his brothers' death, he would definitely have killed Bob. You might have played the game in mere hours, or maybe days, but remember, for Silas it was decades.

      Letting him live was the only way to overcome the fact his brothers are dead and killing him won't bring them back. He spent his whole life trying to kill him,but after seeing how he has changed he knows that he is truly sorry for what he did and his punishment was living his life knowing how much of a murderer he was and feeling bad about what he has done. Silas letting him live let Ben feel forgiven and let himself feel forgiven for what he had done to get his revenge. People change,for better or worse.

    • @Gofer925
      @Gofer925 7 лет назад +11

      This isn't really about what's actually happening, but what's happening in Silas' mind.
      A quote from the 11th chapter, "Without Forgiveness" comes to mind.
      "Dwight: I think you were just looking for justice, sir.
      Silas: Is that what i was looking for, Dwight? Is that what it was? Justice?"
      Silas wasn't looking for justice. He wanted revenge. And that led him to become an empty husk of a man. No family, no friends, no hobbies... Nothing. Just a need for pure vengeance.
      In the redemption ending, Silas hangs onto the last brink of humanity in himself and stops himself from killing Bob. He realizes that for all these years he's been waiting for this. Waiting to kill an old, tired man, Bob Bryant.
      Both Silas and Bob have changed. Silas from being a normal man became a murderer. Bob changed from a murderer to a normal man. By killing him, he would fulfill his sick need for vengeance, but lose himself completely. After that, he would be Silas Greaves. The man who killed hundreds of people for the purpose of getting revenge.
      Nothing else. Sparing him allows him to TRY to at least start a new life. It may be or not be too late to try.
      That's why the redemption ending is the "good" one. It puts Silas' need for revenge aside and allows him to try to grow as a person, not just increase his killcount.

    My opinion: the developers miss their mark on the ending. I say this because the revenge segment has dark music (bad/evil) and the good ending has brighter music (good/heroic).
    In the end, it doesn’t matter what choices you make (morality aside); what matters is following it through, and THAT (in my opinion) is what a true western is about. Having the ending be “you should feel guilty for killing/sparring the villian” makes the story “insisted upon itself”, punishing you; which sort of ruins the your mood by chastising you.

    Redemption is really the only choice for Silas to go forward. Remember the time period this is set it... the "Wild West" is over, there are no more gunslingers or cowboys, there is Law and order, police and sheriffs. Silas is an OLD MAN, he is a man of the old west, and if he can find redemption, he can spend the rest of his years at peace with himself and his choices. If you choose revenge, nothing changes for Silas... except now hes an old gunslinger with no profession, no remorse, and is probably going to go to prison for the murder of Ben/Bob. The wild west we romanticize was actually a period of only about 50 years. (while that is a long time if you live in it... its actually a very short amount of time)

    • @Madheim777
      @Madheim777 3 года назад +2

      im thinking the same. at that point, Silas didnt have nothing except hate and blood in his hands. Bob had to run all his life scared of Silas, who in a sort of way, took from him all what mattered, even his name and identity.
      Forgiving Bob, while looking contradictory on a first sight, is actually a way to end the cycle of hate and anger and put some peace on the soul of Silas, knowing that he made himself a legend known by lots of people and even inspiring people like Dwight, while on the other side, Bob is a complete strange who all his life was running and hiding. Silas can live without having to be prosecuted or jailed, Bob will keep his last days with fear and remorse of what he did, knowing that the guy who searched so many years for him could have actually killed him if he wanted, but decided to toy with him, having full power all that time.

    I also prefer myself the Redemption, but, after seeing this... Or better to say, when I heard his voice change while he saith "So be it!" in the bad ending, I feel that Revenge may have been a better choice. Bob MAY NOT have changed, after all. Also, I felt bad after seeing Dwight so shocked in bad ending.
