History will forever be kind to both of you for clearing this huge controversies about Nigeria's history, some honourable individuals whom have been labeled evil, and some real evil persons whom are been celebrated today.
I so much enjoyed this interview. I was a little boy of 4yrs old leaving in a small town 24mils from Ore and witnessed both incursions of Biafra and Federal army. They later met at Ore spearing my town.
@ Its a long story. I didn’t witness the battle but I could hear the big guns from Okitipupa side. My dad later kept 5 Biafrans in our house because they couldn’t make their way back home. The last one bro Anthony left around early 1980s. All were well treated. Uzodima and Fidaneze .engaged in selling stuff ( sorry if got the spelling wrong) Christopher engaged in palm wine business, Anthony was given a land to farm. They later moved out one by one for bigger accommodations or travel back home. Brother Anthony was the most gentle and last one till early 1980s.
More grade to your elbow Mr Aborsade.you have painted the true picture of our hero Col. Banjo, whom I loved so much. Thank God somebody like you is talking about a dead man who had been lied against because he was late and could not defend himself. Good to learn his children are doing well. Most grateful to the wife who trained and held forth for the husband when he was no more, thank you so much ma. God will continue to be the Banjos. Love that you all are doing well.
As an igbo man all i can say is that hate wont take us anywhere. Infact the earlier southerners unite the better for all of us. The north has one thing working for them and that is love and unity among them. Lts also embrace and imbibe this culture. Sometimes i think the divisions among southerners is man made and for selfish interest of a superior power that wants it that way.
It’s always the Igbos running to Northerners to be a second in command. Southern unity cannot work with Igbos. They always back bites since Azikiwe time. That’s a fact!
'Order is not order' in a war situation. There are rules of engagement in war. If a Supreme Commander gives an order that is in violation of the rules of engagement, like the Geneva Conventions, a junior officer is not bound to carry out the order. Look at the Nurenberg Trials. Ojukwu as Supreme Commander was very WRONG to give order to loot the Central Bank iin Benin
Mr. Obilo: Do further research with this question to confirm if any advance Ɓiafran party was at the periphery of the Ibadan-Iwo Road military base & if so , what possible implications as at the time for the West & Nigeria or Biafra ?
Ojukwu's role in the Civil War should be dispassionately reexamined. Ojukwu was very treacherous and deceptive in his dealings with people like Victor Banjo etc. A coward who led his people to ruin, and fled when defeat stared in his face. A true general would have stayed with his people even to a tragic end. He was not a hero.
You are off the point. Coming with such a biased and absord mentality to this enlightening conversation is enough proof that your narrative is treacherous, deceptive and an act of cowardice.
@@co6335 : You didn't make any attempt to disprove my points. You went into name calling. Because you have no argument. How's your position supposed to be enlightened?

It bears recalling that a very bloody had taken place days earlier. Though some of the principal actors had been arrested and detained, there was a pervading atmosphere of suspicion as it wasn't yet clear who was who. Hence, the arrest of Col. Banjo for circumventing the military ordinance of meeting the Ironsi armed.
The coup participants lacked governance experience. They were impulsive, ambitious adventurers who betrayed their military training rooted in Western civilization. There was no legitimate justification for the military coup, yet they quickly found an excuse after independence. They were influenced by communist ideologies from Chairman Mao. They exploited the pre- independence narratives of respective ethnic leader, aligning themselves with their tribes. They assassinated fellow Nigerian leaders based on partisan and ethnic motives, not truly a revolution. Chief Awolowo was probably aware of the coup, it is important to note that he had been tried for treasonable felony. The Igbo formed a dubious alliance with the North, they later feelt discontented because Zik (Nnamdi Azikiwe) was merely a ceremonial president, which fueled their envy. Yoruba officers sympathetic to Awolowo were misled by Igbo officers into participating in the coup. It is unlikely they would have returned power to civilian politicians if successful. While Aborisade maintains consistent revolutionary rhetoric, his views are largely personal opinions rather than historical facts; they are partisan, subjective and speculative.
I disagree with your perspective but I understand why you see it that way. Truth is we will never know because the coup failed. I believe the coup potters were patriots. Honestly I don't think all the players were patriots. The major players were patriots but of course all things involving humans can always go south or be ruined by human sentiments.
who has governance in those earliest politicians? Same politicians that have not been able to conduct ordinary local government elections right? Same politicians that conduct simple population censuses right? Our problem is simply in our division because we are simply foisted together to live as one that is the more reason that coup was tagged an Igbo coup of which it never an Igbo coup. Our journey to true National redemption will start when we are ready to genuinely put our differences aside and treat every region and tribes as one, not when operate a separate set of laws for the regions, where some regions can kill and never be persecuted because he or she is from a region of the country that presumably owned the country. The truth is, when we are tired of these useless divisions we will remedy the situation and only then can we really be a nation. This is not rocket science.
This man didn't even know that an Igbo officer was killed. His name was Unegbe. He said folks had to die. How i wish he would be bold enough to repeat that BS in front of Ademulegun's daughter. There are too many flaws in his argument. Lamba everywhere! I urge folks to read "Beckoned To Serve" by Shagari and "My Fellow Countrymen" by Richard Akinjide. Southern coup, indeed! A coup that kpaid other ethnic except Igbo? That was when Nigerias problems started, with another mumu called Ironsi, taking regional away to Federal Government. Now, his own people are crying river for region.
Mr Aborisade, you are a typical megalomaniac Yoruba man. Full of praises for everything Yoruba. I feel your writing is full of errors. This is the first time I have heard that Biafran soldiers rapped women in Benin. An action Ojukwu wouldn't have tolerated. Nigerian soldiers were already in Owerri, closing in on Umuahia, not Enugu. 20 km to Enugu is far away. What would Ojukwu do with Nigerian pounds when he declared Biafra soon. Igbos don't sell land?? Another rubbish. Your book is complete with errors, my friend. Banjo betrayed the agreement with Ojukwu. he chickened out of his plans with Ojukwu.
