These stories are uncoordinated. According to the ADC to Ironsi, they were put in a land Rover and driven to Iwo road or so, where a Captain asked him and a few others to enter the Land Rover and detain the two officers. It was the NCO's that shot him.

I'm a history student and I love listening to this stories often and often all the different version of the stories.
But from my own perspective Aguyi Ironsi was the architect of his death, one major Sani Bello is one of his 4 ADC who later become the military governor of Kaduna state said that every member of their entourage that they sent down from upstairs were capture and tired up saying that they think they have killed of of them until himself and another person came down to see what was happening that's were they saw all of them tired up.
Later on Theophilus Danjuma went and arrested the head of state and Fajuyi Adekunle promising them of their safety and they were squeeze into a land Rover and driven away imagine that and he called one of officer who drove a Land Rover and meet up with them he pleaded with the plotter to release Sani Bello for him like Barabas and Jesus Christ in the bible and they drove away were he later heard a gun shot shameful and pity.they succeed in executing their plans and they should be bold to say it out that they were all part of the coup that killed Aguyi Ironsi and Adekunle.
But on the other side how can a heads of state doesn't have any informert,no body signals no spiritual back and you are leading a nation so painful 😭😭

@@jkauto7836 Ironsi was a strong and smart soldier military-wise, but didn't understand politics. People said, he was a simple man who just love to enjoy life, drink, and party. He was not ready for the position. He surrounded himself with Northerners. He didn't plant his people around him so that if anything was going on they can be informant. That's why taking him out was so easy.

Fajuyi was a target of the coupists from get-go because his adherence to Awo's political ideology wasnt hidden. So the fact that Nzeogwu on his broadcast had expressed their intention to release Awo from prison and install him as the prime minister made Fajuyi a suspect. Besides, by the time the revenge coup was carried out the northern soldiers didn't trust any south officer as it wasn't clear who the January 6 ploters were apart from the ones being detained. For yet another thing, the January cuop was widely welcomed in the western region as it brought a respite to the political upheaval that bedeviled the western region. So, it's untrue that the government House Ibadan assailants were there to pick up Ironsi only, and that Fajuyi volunteered to follow them for fear that he mighty be accused of betraying Ironsi. He never was given that choice at all. And he couldn't have been able to escape even if he had attempted to.

The coup favored the West than the East. The transfer of power from Zik to Micheal Okpara was peaceful but the transfer of power from Awolowo to Akintola was marred by conflicts, power strong and control of coca-cola distributorship. This conflict led to the death of each of their first child. The conflict led to “operation wetie” and also the imprisonment of Awolowo. Many people are blind to history and facts in Nigeria

Ojukwu travelled down to Kaduna, encouraged Kaduna Nzeogu to surrender power to Aguyi Irosi since Irosi had the same intention the Coupists had, not knowing that Ojukwu had ulterior motive against the Coupists
Though agreement was made between Ojukwu and Nzeogu to tender to Irosi that those involved shouldn't be maltreated and to compensate, both Irosi and Ojukwu played on Nzeogu intelligence.
Nzeogu was in firm control of Nothern State by then
Nzeogu ceded power to Irosi and he Nzeogu and Ojukwu moved to Lagos,on getting to Airport, the story changed.
Nzeogu landed in the midst of Heavy Ammunitions and was arrested.

Why are these clowns talking like Aguiyi Ironsi did not even deserve more than what he got? Yes, Muritala had planned a coup after he had received pressure from the Northern paramount rulers but what transpired that particular day wasn't Murtala's coup, It all started in Abeokuta and Murtala lashed into the situation.

But on the same vain extricated Ironsi and Ojukwu in the coup that killed the prime minister and others, without evidence likewise.
Openly saying that Nzeogwu was his hero. What he didn't say his motivation was , was because Nzeogwu ,a military dislodged a Democratic government was because he planned to install Awolowo as the prime minister after he succeeded to release him from prison.

The young officer who shot Aguiyi Ironsi was by the name William Walbe and he later became aide-de-camp (adc) to Yakubu Gowon..
After the arrest of Aguiyi Ironsi and Adekunle Fajuyi, Ty Danjuma was to lead the squad back to Lagos but on their way back he dicided the group split into two, leaving Ironsi and Fajuyi with Walbe. But a few kilometers into the journey Walbe diverted into the bush. Fajuyi, Ironsi and Usman who was Ironsi's aide-de-camp had their hands tied behind their backs. The young officers led by walbe stripped Ironsi and Fajuyi naked and flogged them severally to confess their part in the assassination of the northern political elites and senior officers but Ironsi couldn't bear the humiliation from the NCOs anymore so he refused to talk anymore. At this point Usman who was the aide-de-camp to Ironsi managed to untie himself and ran away. At this point Walbe pointed his gun at Ironsi and shot him also Fajuyi...
But murtala Muhammed insisted that Ironsi and Fajuyi were never marked to be killed but rather to be interrogated for the coup originally plotted by Emmanuel Ifeajuna, Kaduna Nzeogu, christian Anuforo, Humphrey chukwuka,, ogbonna Oji, Donatus Okafor and Ademoyega.....
But let it be of note that the real reason Aguiyi Ironsi was killed was for the non execution of the coup plotters and the introduction of the UNIFICATION DEGREE NO 34 OF 1966.
The decree was to remove power from the regional civil service and to be control by the central. The northerners saw this as a plot by Aguiyi Ironsi to disenfranchise the uneducated northerners as compared to the vastly educated southerners. This move by Ironsi made the Young irate northern officers believe Ironsi was part of the initial coup .. QED

Zik was not in the country for three months before the coup happened, the West was at war, Awolowo and Akintola was at war which led to the death of Awolowo first child in a fake car accident in 1963 and retaliatory killing of Akintola first child by drug overdose in 1965. Akintola conspired with Belewa to imprison Awolowo. The military intervened to get rid of the corrupt politicians destroying the country. The East had peace, Micheal Okpara was delivering and performing amazingly and fortunately for him on the day of the coup he had a British bishop visiting at his home, so the Bishop knew about the coup?
