tip-get yourself a bright yellow safety vest, put a orange cone out and trust me the "what are you doing/harassment?" encounters will end. Folks will just think your a utility worker and never bother you again, it works try it. And If they do walk up just say your doing a " cell tower or bridge inspection" not "sunset photography" to try to defuse the situation.
Works every time. The whole 'look like you belong there" thing.

I agree it wasn't a confrontation, but I don't consider it friendly to stick your nose into other people's business like they did. Leave people alone!
I've met "locals" much more friendly than these two. I think they were on the edge of trying to decide to be jerks or just be the stand-offish weirdos they were.

Adam Roberson I agree 110%. My wife is not into my hobby for some reason ($) even though I tell her that drones, cameras, computers are not just a hobby and if you're patient it will pay for it's self (well she is not patient and and did not like that response). Anyways since your my number 1 RUclips channel Ken Heron, I watch she started to overhear you and one day she started laughing because she thinks you are hilarious and now she love's watching your video's and she grew up nearby where you live (happy wife happy life). There have been some hostile confrontations with R/C hodbbyists and drone pilots in my area. I'm now wary of people who approach me. Ive only had one hostile encounter and that was with a guy who wanted his kid to control my R/C car, which weighed about 8 pounds and was capable of 80+ mph. As you can imagine it could do a lot of damage if he hit someone with it. Had to turn him down but did so politely. But he still started calling me names. For that reason, I try to stay far from others when I pillot drones and other R/C craft.
Americans are scary.

@gangstarv1nce41 I fully agree and could do worse. I accidentally got my hands in the propellers after try to hand land it and almost had to get stitches. It fucked up my hand really good. After that always take off and land on the ground
Question. I have the mavric pro 2. watch footage on my Ipad hooked up to the drone and it plays with no jerking. Download to external 5tb and playback and it is choppy at best. Any help on this would be much appreciated, Ken. What programs are you running to make your video?
Your computer might not be able to playback 4K video. Try recording at a lower resolution.
I edit with Adobe Premire Pro.
@@KenHeron So end results that work perfectly. Import into Quick time player then export it at desired settings. Then play back in iMovie. All is good.
hey ken. I uploaded a clip in 4k but when i play my video in youtube, the maximum resolution i can get is only 1080p. did you experience that before?
It takes time for youtube to process the video.

I thought flying the Spark around transmission towers would affect the controller/signal? or is this just high tension electricity cables?
The Spark would be affected more than other drones because it's Wifi.
so as long as you dont take off or land on said property you can fly above it? im no drone flyer but i sure love anything that can fly

Yeah, whenever I come upon a video with click bait in the title, I make sure I remember that channel's name and avoid it in the future. I don't appreciate having my time wasted on some boring ass video. Who knows, they may have some really good and interesting videos but I'll never see them. I won't get fooled by click bait more than once on any given channel.

Glad I saw this. I saw a warning some time ago that said "Stay away from Cell Towers. The wattage they emit could damage your drone's reception and result in a fly away."

While you were tower flying, I thought about the rule to stay 2000' from guide wires. I notice none in this flim but how do you fly next to a tower with guide wires if you need to keep 2000' from the wires?
That is a suggestion not a rule, and it's only for manned aircraft.

Flying near microwave cell towers might fry the circuits of your drone, particularly during prime hours.
No it won't. Drone inspection of cell towers is becoming commonplace today and they fly a bit closer than Ken did.
btw if you read the manual. It says that your cellphone is not meznt to be used like a normal phone..you got to use earbuds.

Hi Ken, just "discovered" you a couple of months ago when I got my first drone, a Phantom 3 Pro. I've watched most of your vids and just wanted to say how much I enjoy them and how much I've learned from them. To say they're entertaining would be an understatement! If you ever want to make a side trip to Altoona, PA on your trip up to your Mom's, we have the world famous Horseshoe Curve here, and lots of trains! Keep flying and keep the tips!

@@ronlynn4421 yeah I guess from a sheer power standpoint it boggles my mind that it wouldn't saturate. Not really sure that there's magnetic forces at play there but I could be wrong. I know that many of those antennas are strong enough to cook a frozen chicken if you hang it over the front lol.

Ken, in your opinion what is the best amateur drone to buy for a novice. I have 7 pretty cheap drones and none of them do what I want, their flight time is short, their distance is very short and I would like one in the moderate price range that is a little more advanced. I was a pilot for 48 years and was grounded for medical condition but would love to fly a decent drone as a private citizen.

Ken I love your channel but please don't subscribe to the popular practice of lying. This was not a confrontation - at least not from what I can tell from the video. This seemed to be just curiosity. Now two guys running down the street towards me shooting at my drone with .22 rifles. That is confrontation. Your videos are cool enough without having to exaggerate. Mahalo.
I actually edited out the part where they rolled up on my and just STARED for 10 minutes until two more buddies off-camera arrived. I knew they'd watch this, so I didn't want to incite them.

I just confronted a guy flying a drone while I was waiting for my buddy to show up at the disc golf course. I went right up to where they landed and asked is that a yunique? It was. In fact it was a bad ass one I didn't even know existed. Dude did drone stuff for cinema turns out, like 4k stuff. I got him to waste some time filming us throwing frisbees. How awesome is that?

The Inspire 1 pales in comparison technology-wise to the P4. Only the camera is better.
Ken Heron like flight characteristics or sensors? I fly with sensors disabled usually. I thought it would be good to eventually be able to change the payload to the X5.

The exposure on the Drone kind of looks off... When you got close to the Tower and we're filming it. The grass and Below got really really dark and then when you pushed away from it the grass became nice and green and bright..
It also did the same thing when you took off to go across the street..
Is there a setting to fix that?

FANTASTIC TO SEE GARY!!!! Missed him. Okay I'm sorry but the orbit of the tower and sunset were just gorgeous. I still stand in awe of your skill. As for the public, I have had people come up to me while flying and I am always honest and friendly to them. Never had anyone upset (knock on wood). We do have a neighborhood app that people post on. One evening they posted about seeing a drone, people started trying to identify where it came from etc. I responded to all their questions and explained I was practicing for developing my business. I invited them to come and talk to me anytime they see me flying and that I would answer any of their questions. (used my Ken Heron thinking cap there). The responses were all very positive and have never had any issues flying near my home since.

It all depends on your rendering codec. Update your editing software and make sure you render to a good codec.

During WWII, my mother (twenty years old at the time) worked at the Oak Ridge Nuclear Facility where the U-235 was made that went into the Little Boy bomb. It's my understanding that a lot of that U-shaped facility is still there. Soooo.... if you're ever anywhere close to Oak Ridge, TN, and you have nothing better to do, I hope you'll make a video and show what's left of that facility. Thanks buddy. Buh and Bye.

I admit it is kinda freaky sometimes when people come up and start asking you questions, and they are kinda deadpan or sedate when they talk to you and you can't quite get a feel where they are coming from for a few seconds, but I really don't see any real "Confrontation" here lol. I guess Encounter fits the bill though. I've had people try to follow me home! After I was flying at a local Community collage once late in the day when it was empty, and a security guard came out and told me I could not fly there unless I had permission, and It was ok to fly out near the entrance at another spot. He was really nice, and interested in my drones and we talked a bit as I packed up my gear, and then he walked back inside. Just as I was getting in my car to leave, some guy came speeding up to me and got out and began to question me. He took his shirt off and began to start acting aggressive toward me, and puff himself all up as it were lol, but by then I was already in my car talking to him as I was starting my car to leave. Just then another guy got out of a smaller pickup truck and proceeded to try to block my way buy standing in front of my car and putting his hands on my hood and trying to hold my car there lol. I told him to get his hands off my car as I slowly started to pull forward, he finally got the idea and got out of the way, but the other guy was still trying to get my name, telling me he worked for the Collage. As I pulled away I could here the other one with long greasy black hair yelling at the one with no shirt to follow me. I calmly drove to a friends used car lot down the street, and proceeded to pull in. Thees guys gave me the fingers pointing at the eyes thing and said we are watching you, we know where you live crap lol. I just pointed and laughed and said are you stupid? This is a used car lot as they drove off.

Man... People feel it's there duty to mess with us camera drone peeps. I've been questioned by police on WHAT THE ACTUAL LAWS are. Yet Joe blow off the street comes in telling me he'll "shoot it down if it comes near his property". There is really no in-between... People are either really interested in watching your drone or they "hate your perv ass cause their Aunt Sallee mae got spied one n da shower un time". Not gonna lie I love shooting my friends and family on the beach with my drones. But I always feel odd when I have my drone on the beach or flying it into position to video my family. Because you know at least some people are thinking... You perv. Lol

FAA rules - assuming you're in the U.S. - you cannot fly at night and in the day you must keep your drone within eyesight. Lots more rules too because you know freedom in the good ol U.S. of A.
