I think this really shows the conundrum that the automotive world is going through. I simply adore old 911s, and the sounds are a HUGE part of the appeal, especially one with some slight tuning. It will NEVER be as fast or reliable as this modern car - but that isn't the only reason people buy these. I'm really torn. The power, simplicity and sheer HOLY @$#!$%# factor is just huge! But man, running a weber-equipped 911 through a tunnel is something that you'll never understand in a car that goes WZZZZZZZZZZZZ!
Great production on this episode, Michael. Super engineering on the componentry. I see a time when every cool car worth preserving has its own EV conversion kit. Nice work!
You are doing amazing work and the regular videos are appreciated. It would be interesting to see a mini series showing a project from start (enquiry/concept) through to completion.
Nice work. We need SO MANY MORE of these. We gotta have cool conversions. there are just way to many cool existing cars (& trucks) to toss all that away. You'all are right on the mark. Keep up the good work : D
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo........Thats a shell of a magnificent car....with its heart and soul ripped out!
It would be appreciated if you provided a 'basic' specs sheet for the end product....like 0-60 time, estimated range, maximum power, top-speed and approximate cost (installed). I know some of this was sprinkled through the video but I didn't hear anything about range or $. Great kit and I'm going to be interested once the improved batteries make it to market in a couple years to allow for increased range in the limited battery space. Is this ready for a Cayman?
I remember seeing the contest to win this car, but they never showed the car operate, or mentioned the range. It was poorly marketed, but a beautiful car.
Wow that’s fast. Just acquired a 1966 912 with a vw engine ughh. planning to put a period correct 4 cylinder Porsche 912 motor back in during restoration but your video does open up a different direction do you sell the box or at least provide the cad/ dxf file for us to weld up a engine mount to go with your 912 kit ? Trying to put together a cost. And labor estimate
Thanks for reminding me that I got crazy busy this summer and missed the deadline for entering that Omaze give away............AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!
So, same overall weight as stock at 2400 lbs? Not bad with 32 kWh. I'd already be happy with half the power probably, Model 3 motor with less heat loss. But probably still a challenge to control?
There are at least 1 million Mini Coopers on the road from 2001-2013 that could really benefit from an affordable EV Conversion kit. I wish they would do a conversion on a Mini Cooper hatchback.
pretty impressive, what is the equivalent in hp and foot torque pounds? also wondering what the range is on this car? could i drive it from LA to SF on one charge?
that's more of a function of the rear overhanging engine, which is deleted. Porsche make good chassis so without the engine I imagine it's a pretty predictable handler
So it sounds like you can just supply the 911 kit for the install, I assume the customer has to source the some parts too? I note Air conditioning wasn't mentioned but I am aware electric kits are available, have you also installed this? Im interested as I have an old Porsche 993 that will need an engine rebuild at some point. Im in Australia.
No please don't oh my god. DO NOT swap your 911 with a fucking tesla system. Keep it original, don't ruin it. '86 911 is such a beautiful car, keep it original please.
Yeah I think you're pretty close here. The 120ah BMW i3 has around the same size batter and goes 120 miles without babying it. This Porsche is lighter but may be a wash if BMW is tuned for better efficiency
Ah, the nine-eleven. The beauty, the heritage, the sound of the air cooled flat-six and the crisp gearchange....fuck me sideways. I get it when someone makes an EV out of a DeLorean because that had only its looks speaking for it. But this is like bringing your kids to a taxidermist so they are quiet and don't need food.
Awesome car and super clean install! It did make me wonder if the there is too much weight over the rear axle? Wonder if the bms and rear batteries are lighter than the original engine?
Hi, are guys selling that kit? With the bms, batteries, etc. if yes, could you please post a link! Thanks in advance and, AMAZING video. You guys inspire everyone to jump into a project like this one.
As soon as I spotted the 914 I lost interest in the 911. Mid engine, lower center of mass and all that power, that thing will be a dream to drive, especially with upgraded suspension and wheel setup. The 914 2.0L is already a fun car to drive, an EV conversion must be absolute insanity :)
Matthew's Tech Corner Now you mention type R you remind me how much I used to love it’s predecessor, the original civic CRX. I very nearly bought one back in the late 80’s, I ended up with a Ford but always regretted not getting the Honda.
This is incredible! You guys need to make more kits for other cars! How about a mustang? High volume and lower entry cost make for a big market! The 1979-2004 mustangs are on the same chassis so there are still millions out there.
I'm curious...is this not the same car featured on Jay Leno's Garage? Same colour, same wheels, front battery install looks identical, even license plate matches, except for the year sticker. That car was described as a 912.
Great conversion! So you have a 5KW charger on board? Why not an 11KW (or I believe US standard limit is 7.4KW)? Also does it support fast charging? What's the range on this Porsche now? Looks nice, could you add some extra figures for reference?
I hope EV-conversions will be a lot more common and affordable in the future.
Of course they will. Probably drop 50% in 5 years.
i hope they dont

I love my VWs mostly for the engine sound but I guess you can't have your 🍰 n eat it🤠
Great production on this episode, Michael. Super engineering on the componentry. I see a time when every cool car worth preserving has its own EV conversion kit. Nice work!
An elegant execution of something that should never have been done
Is the Delorean getting Tesla swapped? Would be nice 👍
Well, he better come up with a solution for the required 1.21 Gigawatts!
Yes
I noticed that as well!
Yes, it is. We have another episode on it, and more coming soon.
@@EVWest thank you
Now I hear you with that mic 😉 The show is much better! Keep the good work!
Thanks for hanging in there!
OMG yes yes yes. Audio and music levels are perfect. LOVE IT. This is how it should be. Most excellent.
Thank you!
@@EVWest As a first time watcher, the microphone and audio mix is really impressive. Gives the channel an extremely legitimate feel.
Nice video. I hope there’ll be a video once that Delorean is complete. That would be back to the future. 😉
You are doing amazing work and the regular videos are appreciated.

Very impressive packaging of all the battery and drive unit components.
I sold my Austin Healey Sprite bugeye twenty five years ago and I now with electric motors makes me think of all the possibilities.
Would like to see how this does in a slalom test vs the OG car given the added weight and where that mass is located at the ends of the car.
so many videos have overpowering "music". thanks for doing a good job of the car and the explanation.
Eric Jenkins Agreed. The result was I listened to every word.
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo........Thats a shell of a magnificent car....with its heart and soul ripped out!
Fantastic episode, 10/10 quality and brevity. SLCS fans. 2.06 seconds! 👀👀👀
Oh the glorious sound of that flat kWh. (awesome car!)
Solid state power for the rest of us. Excellent explanation and tour. Very cool!
I love that a model S drives by after SLCS 😂 Perfect way to end it.
It would be appreciated if you provided a 'basic' specs sheet for the end product....like 0-60 time, estimated range, maximum power, top-speed and approximate cost (installed). Just imagine these conversions with the 4680 batteries.
Nobody brought them one, that porsche has an owner, they just need somebody who owns a cayman and is willing to convert it to electric drive
0 - 60 looks like it costs 2 rear tires
SLCS! This was amazing you are all BAMF.
The Delorean up on the lift getting converted brings me great joy.
I can see the ground below the motor. Is there some kind of shield that protects the motor from water and dirt?
@ My inner Veruca wants a shield and she wants it now!
Sweet, I had a 1968 911 in British green. I wish I had kept it and converted it. Your work is really high quality...
I remember seeing the contest to win this car, but they never showed the car operate, or mentioned the range. It was poorly marketed, but a beautiful car.
@james braselton uh... sure?
Great that somebody's done it now lets leave all other 911's alone.
Eduard Walhout .. Agreed. .. Signed, A "98 Carrera 2S owner.
I know!!! But unfortunately, eventually those old magnesium cases will be trash.
A stunning car. Great to see the engineering underneath...
Wow that’s fast. I own a Porsche 964 turbo. I love what you are doing. I would do this in a heart beat.
so professional you can tell that's what experience does. That deloren though...Tesla power? So cool.
Fab... lane-drift warning/correction, pre-collision and other software enhanced safety features etc are nice aspects of the Tesla... .
This is awesome, may I know how much the retrofit cost?
I think car included it’s worth like 175k to 250k
The retrofit is listed on their site for $12k.
Scratch the above, that is not Tesla stuff and does not include batteries.
Customers are spending around $35k for all the parts, batteries, etc... for the Tesla drive system for the 911.
@KHALIIL01 putting the engine at the back? 😁
Great work Micheal! Love it. Man you fingers were close to those + - contractors...... ;)
Very neat. And the Delorean up there :)
Clean af, as always. Very nice guys. Keep it up!
Thanks for reminding me that I got crazy busy this summer and missed the deadline for entering that Omaze give away............AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!
Next week, we take the Mona Lisa and paint a mustache on the lady! Lets take a look....
lol
my dream car, BEV DeLorean.
I think this is one of the coolest cars evwest has ever made.
acompanhando vocês aqui do Brasil! Muito louvável sua iniciativa em fazer esse canal!
A 95' version of this is my dream car
This is great! Goes like a Tesla but doesn't look like one. Ideal.
So true
I can't stop looking at that Delorean.
You forgot to speak about A/C, does it have one? Also where is the cooling system?
I'd like to know more about this, too. Are A/C systems part of your product offerings?
5:45 Great Scott!
Really? The one that does electronics videos? How you know?
So, same overall weight as stock at 2400 lbs? Not bad with 32 kWh.
I'd already be happy with half the power probably, Model 3 motor with less heat loss. But probably still a challenge to control?
that motor looks enormous in there!
There are at least 1 million Mini Coopers on the road from 2001-2013 that could really benefit from an affordable EV Conversion kit. I wish they would do a conversion on a Mini Cooper hatchback.
I have a 996 with bad motor. Do you have a suggestion regarding an electric motor package. Cost is important.
Interested about the rev counter. How does that work?? Motor revs per minute too.?. Looks pretty high numbers
That cable management in the rear is sexy
pretty impressive, what is the equivalent in hp and foot torque pounds? also wondering what the range is on this car? could i drive it from LA to SF on one charge?
Beautiful job EV West
ah sweet. you guys are making videos again. keep it up
Wow, like the combination. one of the best ways to make oldtimers electric.
YES! Love the addition of the lapel mic! Major improvement, thanks. Now... when does this drop-in package show up in the EV West catalog?!
I'd love to experience the snap oversteer of that beautiful beast.
that's more of a function of the rear overhanging engine, which is deleted. Porsche make good chassis so without the engine I imagine it's a pretty predictable handler
Nice video. Love the slippers
I wish one day i could have my old MK2 Corolla Trueno electrically powered.
Very well done... Great engineering.!
Fantastic work Michael and team! So.... what's the price of the bolt-in system?
I love the idea of converting old cars to EVs. The first person to make do it yourself kits will become the next Offenhauser or the next Edelbrock.
How many miles do you get on a charge and how quick does it take charge?
If/when I pop the engine on my '86 911, this is the way I will go. Just awesome. Thank you.
No please don't oh my god. DO NOT swap your 911 with a fucking tesla system. Keep it original, don't ruin it. '86 911 is such a beautiful car, keep it original please.
I’m rethinking rebuilding my old 912 engine 🤔
a 911 with a trunk..... now that is fabulous
This is probably a stupid question but I'm just learning. With a 32kw battery pack what would be the range? 120 miles give or take?
Yeah I think you're pretty close here. The 120ah BMW i3 has around the same size batter and goes 120 miles without babying it. This Porsche is lighter but may be a wash if BMW is tuned for better efficiency
We've been getting bout 140 miles per charge.
Awesome thanks for the replies guys. EV West is doing something that needs expansion. What a fascinating subject.
Dig that choice of wheels😍
Great video! Love the work you show us!
Would be cool to see you do a similar conversion to a 65-69 Corvair, the poor man's Porsche.
check out the Electrovair!!! ( ruclips.net/video/YXxgatAznHU/видео.html )
That stop the oil leaks!
😂
I like those safety steel toe sandals
Perfect! The best car shape in the world with the best drive...
Second best. You forgot the Citroen DS.
911 is a classic u should give some respect for the flat 6
Great Job you're doing guys... Well done.
Curious would your rear subframe system allow for a more drag race type package setup say 305-315 size tires?
I really want a EV Dorian, or hub motor kit so my Bug will be 4WD with on board charging , that would beat the 03 prest like desil/electric
2 thumbs way up, Michael!
Very interested what that weight cut does to the range? Also, arguably less brake energy back into the battery pack so likely not a linear gain.
Awesome car and super clean install! It did make me wonder if the there is too much weight over the rear axle? Wonder if the bms and rear batteries are lighter than the original engine?
The early 911s are infamous for being veery rearheavy, so it probably is a little better like this actually
Hi, are guys selling that kit? With the bms, batteries, etc. if yes, could you please post a link! Thanks in advance and, AMAZING video. You guys inspire everyone to jump into a project like this one.
You can check with the sales team at EV west using sales@evwest.com they can answer the specific questions you have. Drew - EV West Media Manger

Super quality! What kind of range this battery pack gives?
How does the battery weight affect the handling and what is the range?
Look at that DeLorean riding back to the future
Really nice well thought out build. What's the typical mileage range on this 911?
Even the video production is period correct!
Love the bbq under the shelf
Holy Cow!!! ...and you guys are making an Electric DeLorean?!?! What?!?! When are we gonna get a 👀 at that “Flux Capacitor”?
I have always been odd. I need an electric hot rod in my life. Like a Yugo, or Chevette that does 0-60 in 2.3. :)
I was thinking a sick awd converted gremlin. Or maybe a vw thing, possibly a chevy corvair? 😎
If I had the money I’d have an Opel GT from the same era. It’d be light, fast and beautiful to look at, a bit like a baby Corvette.
Matthew's Tech Corner
Now you mention type R you remind me how much I used to love it’s predecessor, the original civic CRX. I very nearly bought one back in the late 80’s, I ended up with a Ford but always regretted not getting the Honda.
+1. .. Think GEO Metro ..
2 second 0-60 Smart car sounds fun to me
subframes are Aluminum or steel? (I assume aluminum but you never said) Range on this car?
This is incredible! You guys need to make more kits for other cars! How about a mustang? High volume and lower entry cost make for a big market! The 1979-2004 mustangs are on the same chassis so there are still millions out there.
They just announced a TeslaCrate for V8s. Cant wait to see what they do with that!
I'm curious...is this not the same car featured on Jay Leno's Garage? Same colour, same wheels, front battery install looks identical, even license plate matches, except for the year sticker. That car was described as a 912.
Plug and play is the key to EV transversion.. No bullshit cutting , mods etc just drop and go.
You guys do such nice work.
Great conversion! So you have a 5KW charger on board? Why not an 11KW (or I believe US standard limit is 7.4KW)? Also does it support fast charging? What's the range on this Porsche now? Looks nice, could you add some extra figures for reference?
Gorgeous
Hey great video, I noticed the Orange Crush BMW 2002 @ 9:00 .
Is there a video on this ?
yes
