    honestly I think that finding a car like this or one with a wrecked drive train and converting it is the future. It's less waste going into the environment, probably the same price or even slightly higher (which is made up for in the fuel savings/ maintenance) than re-kitting it with traditional components, and a more punchy throttle than with a normal gasoline engine. you guys and especially YOU Jehu are a huge influence in my passion for sustainable EV and I really hope that my first car out of college will be something like this. thank you so much

    • @Flyingdutchy33
      @Flyingdutchy33 6 лет назад +3

      Actually, more waste will go into the environment if we spend time, effort and resources to produce those batteries. the process of which has not won any awards yet with biologists. So here it is. A perfectly fine car. Sure, the mileage isn't perfect, but that really is the only thing you can say about it. You're not saving the planet by swapping in a battery. You're increasing the problem.
      Instead of buying a new car or retrofitting an old one, which basically is the same as buying a new car in terms of what needs to be produced, you could also just drive your existing car. But no, instead of making sense, we're going to woo the public with some CO2 bullshit, make them trade in their cars and help the autmotive branch a big deal with these more expensive alternatives.
      Sure, you have a "punchy throttle" but I dare you right here and now, you take that battery leadsled of yours and I'll take a standard 356. We're both going to stop as fast as we can. Now, ofcourse we both know who is going to win this, so thats not the challenge here. The question is how many multitudes shorter my stopping distance is. Oh, and for shits and giggles, we should do the Elk-test too. Not to prove what is better, because everybody knows. It's all about how many multitudes it is better.
      And here you are, applauding the devolution of the automotive products. Not only that, you actually perceive this as evolution, despite all the physics in the world proving otherwise. And all that because you were told a fairytale about CO2. Anybody who takes 5 minutes time to look shit up themselves will find out that every week, many scientific peer reviewed papers come out proving the exact opposite.
      Now, if you'll excuse me, i need to tweek at my 2.5kg bottle of CO2 hooked up to my aquarium. 3x growth rate just isn't enough. Maybe we can hit 4x if I dial it up just that little more.... What do you think?

      @@MichaelOZimmermannJCDECS Has it ever occurred to you that _YOU_ are the one that needs to be educated?
      Do you have any idea of the number of scientific papers that show all kinds of factors that we are only recently finding out that were never even factored into their AGW bullshit train?
      Judging by the name you have given yourself, I doubt you will be modest enough to admit that you might not know anything, but I had to try.
      Here, for shits n giggles;

      Even though I am NOT a native English speaker I detected, that you are mixing up the words ANYTHING and EVERYTHING! Indeed there are lots of papers... I am guessing you have read them all ;-)... I haven't :D.
      I am educated, and still learn every god damned day! And NO, I am not claiming to know "everything" (like your president).
      You are trying to justify your comment. Do substantiate them with facts, not claims! There are always pro's and con's to nearly everything! I always try to apply "First Principles Thinking", you should try that as well. Thank you.

      Hey I just posted this, this may help: If anyone is interested in learning about Electric Vehicle Technology even further, which complements the excellent production and visibility made from this video by EV West, please certify with TUDelftX: online-learning.tudelft.nl/courses/electric-cars-technology/
      It's a great resource that really introduces electric vehicle technology and has a forum of global students online! It always looks good to have an extra certificate as well which may not assure engineering standards but definitely a great preparation for! :) Being a part of Electric Vehicle Engineering is definitely revolutionary work that helps combat global warming and biodiversity loss. Hopefully there can be a union of this type of work like how there was a global one for electricity in the 40s and 50s and hopefully all mechanical EV Engineers can get a great pension! :) I too want to do this work out of passion as well as taking my science education to the next level and inspiring that women can do this work as well! :)! The more hands, the more collaboration, the better. There are a whole lot of cars on the road that need conversion!

    Nice video and what a great shop. Glad to hear you're encouraging other people to convert their cars. There was a time if you wanted an electric car you had to make it yourself. A lot of stuff was happening back in the 90s that seems to just have been forgotten. I went to three electric car events in coco beach Florida called the " Sunday challenge.. part of the event was to drive our cars from Cocoa Beach to Disney World 76 miles. We had three hours to do it and the roads were blocked off by the police so we didn't have to stop at traffic lights. When we got to Disney World which we got into for free we parked our cars and showed them off to the public . At the time 20 golf cart batteries was the standard setup 120 volts with a Curtis controller and I Advance DC was the popular setup . They had gotten grant money to put this all on and when the money was gone the event stopped. I started my own event in my own hometown and how did every year for the next 18 years, in 2014 I moved and never started a car event in the new town I moved to.

    Ideally, this car would have all the batteries fit into a cavity that would be as flat as possible, where the top side would be the floor between the front and rear wheels. Having all that weight so low in the car would make it handle awesomely as well. Then maybe you might have a bit more storage space in either the front or back of the car. I don't know if it is too optimistic to try and incorporate that into the design, but it sure would be great.

      I would not be interested in financing a $40,000 electric conversion but maybe up to $30,000. If it is in my price range I just have no idea what this stuff cost but does it not mean I am not capable of coming up with the dough.

      Either way, this car is now officially ruined. Not a single car _on the planet_ has improved from adding weight. Not only that, you had to do it to a priceless classic. And for what? Some likes from clinically insane lefties? They're ruining the world and you're egging them on with your travesty of a car.

      @@Flyingdutchy33 Absolutely not. You have never driven an electric car. The torque and power you get from an electric motor will blow away any engine you would put in that. Also you clearly didn't watch the video, because this is a replica (aka a kit). However EVWest doesn't cut up classic cars, they make battery boxes that fit in with no cutting, so no ruining of cars. I am not sure why you think "lefties" are the only ones that like clean powerful electric cars, but you should do a bit more research before you comment.

    I think it would be cool to have Doug DeMuro review this car! He is now in San Diego and well you know its Doug so it would be fun to watch.
    Just saying it would be cool and it would be good publicity for EV West!!!!!!!!!!

      I am sure it is a bit more (not much more) than a complete engine restoration of an original engine. However you would have so much less maintenance going forward.

      After the batteries, motor, charger, BMS, and hardware, I have spent about $15k (same tesla batteries they are using). The vehicle also cost $5k on top of that.

    At 21.34 - 21.36 and again at 21.42 visually the front wheels are absolutely gagging for a wider track, at least 50mm further in than the rears and while I know that can have advantages for turn-in it looks a little excessive. Everything else is spot on from my admittedly limited perspective, i am curious as to the EMF output of the motor/batteries and if any shielding was used, if in future that could get a mention that would be exciting to me as awareness of electro sensitivity becomes more widespread - big concern re:electric vehicles. Overall top work guys! Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous car. It looks so smooth and classy and, reminds me of my teens playing need for speed Porsche 2000.

    EV conversion of classic cars is the future of cars of collection or old timers... even Aston Martin started a division dedicated to electrification of their classic.

      Would rather keep my classic air cooled engine the way it is with new hydrogen fuel cell tech than have to hack up my classic in order to install a whole ev kit. Batteries are going the way of petrol and will soon deminish its supply. Keep creating more of these huge lithium pools or flouride or whatever else is toxic to life on this earth to make a lame ass battery. Thx.
