Hello @BritSimon - I think that a video on the reason why a case may be disqualified and hence generate a hole/gap ahead of the announcement may be a good idea. It may have the added benefit of getting people to do a better job during the submission phase in October/November.

Lots of people "won" their DV lottery this year because of two things happening at the same time: applying without a passport and huge fee increase this summer. The fee increase will have a severe impact on the number of applicants willing to proceed. Especially in Africa. The family of 4 has to be ready to pay 10+k.
Thank you Brit, THis is our 3rd attempt and i had totally written it off and applied again for 2025 just in case. We are 2024OC26XX family of 5 in Auckland NZ. Hoping for big gaps this year if case numbers are 45XX and up.

I just heard today about the case no. predictions and got devastated- I applied from North Macedonia, and that’s part of Europe… and people are telling me it’s one of the last numbers to be called for interview (if ever).
I only started panicking when I saw 2023 bulletin delegating 32000 as last number for September… But hope dies last, so I’ll be waiting for the September 2024 bulletin to give up 😄

I'm just thinking: the highest numbers in DV 23 are 35xxx in EU and 65xxx in AF. There are 50-55k visas available, there are approximately 120k winners (+ -). If so, there are large holes between case numbers and 60-70k of DV24 in EU may be like 35k in DV23. Can it be this way?...

I want to ask my case that if you may help and direct. I have a scheduled visa interview for F-1 in the end of May. And on 6th of May I got that I have been selected for Green Card, however case number is around 39K. So, my question is that if I submit the DS-260 form now, would it appear on the system as the intention of immigration and visa officer can ask about that and reject? I wanted to ask you, should I be nervous about the CBP officer interview at the port of entry? I bring all my documents, including my passport with the visa, obviously, and the sealed envelope they gave me at the consulate. no need to be nervous, it will be fine. do not get scared, thry will send you to a separate room to process first entry
The CBP POE entry is not an interview. You don't need to be nervous.

@BritSimon how and when are the case numbers generated. Some confuse it with the confirmation numbers and how it impacts one’s chances of being selected.
The case number is randomly assigned to every case in the early part of the draw process. In fact that is how the draw process works. Every entry within each region gets a case number (rank order) and the system then sorts the entries lowest case numbers first. The lowest case numbers are the initial selectees, then holes are created and eventually the remaining selectees are announced.
Thank you @BritSimon for the clarification, a lot of folks get confused with this and claim if you submit a late entry then you will have a high case number which increase your chances of winning so happy that you have provided such a clear and concise response. Does anybody know if I need to change the interview location, do I need to do that before I get interview scheduled or after I get my interview date? Does it affect or delay the form 260 submission?
Hi in 2021 I followed your advice and instructions and I won with my case number was 45k and for a reason I don't know I have not been scheduled. @britsimon I keep getting this same error The information entered is not valid. This is the third day getting same error even after copy pasting all the information. Wonder if there are others experiencing the same
I am very confident to say this is a mistake you are making, not a system problem.
Some numbers for very small countries do not seem to make sense. The visa lottery is something you must keep tabs on year by year, or else that small window of opportunity escapes you. To imagine almost a 1000 persons from some small island waiting around for this particular window raises interesting questions. And added to that not everyone has constant access to computers (personally I find mobiles a pain to do any serious work). Plus there is need to make sure that photos are done professionally or else it does not upload.. I see numbers like 600 pretty high for populations of 100,000 plus people. This raises a lot of questions.
The numbers are not seperate by country, they are within a region. So a person from a small country in AF region could have number 2024AF1 or number 2024AF110000.
@@BritSimon There are stats where I saw every country and the number of entrants. It is organised by regions, but all countries are listed for their specific region for a particular fiscal year. But can't seem to remember the link or the exact search words that bought me to that link.
@@chilray4706 This was published in the August VB for last year. It listed selectees for all eligible countries.
But still, what Simon said is correct. The numbers are by region and not by country.

Briefly, we have been selected and my fiance will get her masters degree (end of June maybe July), but she has a bachelor degree already. is it worth it to wait for the certificate or should we hand in the ds-260 now? will there be any option to modify later?

If the selectee has a high school diploma equivalent, then the degrees don't matter. If they don't have that, then there's no guarantee the degree(s) will be accepted instead, although they might be. You're supposed to have 2 years of professional work experience if you don't have the high school diploma. But proving the work experience thing is tricky and almost everyone who has a college degree has a high school diploma equivalent too, so it's best to just get a copy of that and use it for DV cases.
The case number in Africa for example means the sequence of all Africans that win or just the winners in your country.
For examle im number 100k is that means that 102k and 99k are from the same country morroco or they may not they are from another African country please answer 🙏

Hello Britaimon! I have a question please. My friend got selected and when she applied she included her husband and kids which one of them had turned 21 like almost 2 months before the lottery started. She thought it was 21 and under. Now when she enter to fill up the ds260 her daughter’s name is there with all of them. Should she just ignore it and not complete it or she needs to remove it from her list and if so how she can do that. Please help
PS: when she filled up her/husband ds260 she already mentioned that her eldest is not going with them
Don't complete a DS260 for that child over 21.

I lost my confirmation number and have been trying to retrieve it but I’m not receiving any email containing my confirmation number however when I place forgot my confirmation number and filling out all the information correctly & hit submit, right above forgot my confirmation number there is a number that appears. I have tried so many times and the number doesn’t change so I guess it could be the number only that all the Survey I did after I lost my number says that you only receive the confirmation number which you lost through an email. They never send an email for a lost confirmation number. It is shown directly on the webpage.

Hello @BritSimon - One question, what if from some small country there are a lot of entrants with high case numbers? Does that mean that a lot of people will not get chance to go to interview because of the high case numbers? We got EU41XXX and I guess that number is too high even there are a lot of holes in DV2024...
THe VB number is controlled by region. So you cannot get interviewed before your case number is current, even if your embassy is not busy.
What if in this year there will be more selections? Does it mean that for higher numbers will not receive 2NL? Tobe honest in My region EU comparing to past years there are too many high case numbers, And I am confused is it good for people that have high case number

A financial sponsor is sometimes needed unless you have your own savings. In that case a sponsor completes and I-134 on your behalf.
