First I love the Raised On Rock LP with bonus photo and the art on the liner notes - very cool. #1 for me is That's The Way It Is, overall it's a beautiful album. Ranking last is hard as the 70s was my favorite era but I believe Love Letters gets the least play in my case. I would rank Elvis Country near the top but the blending of I Was Born About 10,000 Years Ago has always distracted me from enjoying it as a whole, however I do enjoy each track on their own very much. Great post, really like the non edited style video as well.
Hi Andrew, thank you for the kind words. I'm trying to improve the editing skills. As for Elvis Country, I've got used to the snippets of I Was Born About 10,000 Years Ago and sometimes I quite miss them when listening to the songs on their own. I enjoy Love Letters but, as I mentioned in my review of the Elvis in Nashville set, it would have been a better album without all the overdubbed mush. But that's what they did back then and Elvis probably wanted something like that anyway. Look at how many people he had on stage with him in the '70s. Thanks again.
@@ElvisPresleyInJapan I believe you're right concerning the overdubs etc, guessing Felton wanted Elvis' studio work to be as full of sound as his stage show but sometimes less is more. I am looking forward to the new box set coming our way. Have a good one my friend.
@@Semper-Media I heard that at the time(June 1970) Elvis was really into Engelbert Humperdinck's music and wanted his own records sound similar. So probably it was a common decision of both Elvis and Felton to do a lot of overdubs.
Great video. The Japanese pressings are beautiful. My favourite is "Elvis Country - I'm 10.000 Years Old" and my least favourite is "ELVIS" (1973) AKA "Fool".
David, another awesome video. Always looking forward on your reviews and records from Japan. I always thought the 1970s Elvis output was superior from Japan, Then it's counterparts in the U.S. I would agree that, "Elvis Country" is the most cohesive and greatest artistic experience than all the other albums from the 1970-1977.

Yes, you were almost right about Love Letters. I think a lot of people would agree with you about the Raised on Rock album but, apart from a couple of tracks, I enjoy it.
Hei, David, and thank you so much for making this video! 😎👍 "The Ranking" made it even more interesting! As you already know "Moody Blue" is my favorite Elvis album. I'm not exactly sure why but it just has something about it. I have 3 different pressings of it: - an Italian pressing, - a Canadian pressing (it has a printed inner sleeve) and - a US pressing on black vinyl and it's an early 80s pressing and I think it's rarer that the original '77 blue vinyl IS pressing. Do you know more about that case? My 2nd favorite Elvis release from the 70s gotta be "That's The Way" but I only have it on a DVD-R disc. I recorded it on TV when it was shown on one of the Finnish TV channels. I really like that "documentary". Actually those 2 are the only Elvis studio albums from the 70s that I have ever heard (though they are not literally complete studio albums). A few weeks ago I saw "Promised Land" at one of the local thrift stores. It still had a shrink wrap and it was a US pressing but unfortunately it was a cut-out and I like cut-outs as much as Superman likes kryptonite so I had to pass it. It would be more than great if I could get some complete Japanese pressing of "Moody Blue" and/or "That's The Way". If I don't order them via discogs or Ebay the chances of me getting them are pretty slim. Have a great Sunday and hope to see another excellent video from you soon, Jarkko/MyVinylBar
Hi Jarkko, thanks, I'm glad you liked the video. I think the early '80s black vinyl copy of Moody Blue you have is much rarer than the original blue vinyl. I have 4 copies of the US blue vinyl version. I'm not collecting them; three of them came in sets of records I bought. And I got them all here, in Japan. The original 1977 black vinyl LP is the one to look for but I've never seen one for sale here. Like you, I tend not to buy cut-outs. I think I only have one and that was also part of a set I bought. Good luck finding the Japanese pressings of those two albums. They can be picked up quite cheaply but shipping LPs is quite costly, of course, and TTWII is a heavy album with its gatefold cover and pages on the inside. Thanks again!
Yes, I think many fans would have the same top two. Plenty of good music after that but I don't think he ever bettered that first Nashville Marathon. Thanks for watching!
Nice look at Elvis' largely overlooked '70's output. The man certainly didn't do himself any favours by refusing to participate in the creation of his album covers of the period, did he? ELVIS COUNTRY aside, they're completely interchangeable, unlike the many soundtrack covers which evoked the themes of particular movies. As you know, RAISED ON ROCK is bottom of the barrel for me as far as the '70's albums go, with LOVE LETTERS above it by the slimmest of margins (I quite enjoy Elvis' second Christmas lp, and wouldn't include it in any "worst of Elvis" discussion). GOOD TIMES is a fine (albeit woefully mistitled) effort, and there are moments on MOODY BLUE that really sparkle ("For the Heart," the exciting "Way Down," and the title cut are all superb, as is an outstanding "Unchained Melody"). Of course, ELVIS COUNTRY is an excellent '70's studio album, but my favourite is FROM ELVIS PRESLEY BOULEVARD, an emotionally honest and striking statement from a man who knew the end was near but still giving everything he had.
Yes, the cover designs definitely betray a lack of care and attention. They even used that same block font for his name several times near the end. Given that many of his secular studio LPs were the worst selling records of his career, you'd think the record company might have tried to make them more appealing, visually. And what were all those black and white covers about?

Moody Blue is a great record. I couldn't help myself and started singing it on camera. My favourite album to listen to it is actually the This Is Elvis soundtrack. You're right about the rockers. I'll be doing a video on his '70s rockers at some point and when I looked through the albums to make some notes, I ended up with quite a short list of songs compared to previous decades. Cheers, Tony.
Try ranking his live concerts Eg Aloha Hawaii From Memphis to Vegas Madison Square Garden 68 Comeback Special That’s The Way It Is 74 Live At Mid South Collisium
The top two are the only two that matter for me. I also like On Stage Feb 1970. I do not care for ANY of the rest of Elvis' 70s albums, although there are 2 or 3 songs I like on each of them. I would rather listen to most of his 60s soundtrack albums than his albums after Elvis Country. In fact Elvis Country would be in my top 5 of ALL non-compilation Elvis albums. Elvis' MOR, Contemporary country period that followed his June 1970 sessions was very disappointing for me back in the day. I still have not warmed up to it, never will. In short Spinout is better than any studio album he made after 1970.
I'd take one or two of the soundtracks, including Spinout, over one or two '70s albums but I quite enjoy most of his later albums. Thanks for your comment.
Although a great video I don't like ranking videos. The reason is mine will be different than someone's else. I think besides the 50's releases, the 70's albums are my favorite. Don't much care for his 60's studio albums except for ELVIS IS BACK , and the two religious albums but I love the soundtrack albums.
Fair enough. I quite like them. It's interesting to see what others think and if they like an album or song that I don't think much of, it sometimes makes me want to listen to them again. I'm with you on Elvis Is Back all the way. Thanks a lot!

Try ranking his live concerts
Eg Aloha Hawaii
From Memphis to Vegas
Madison Square Garden
68 Comeback Special
That’s The Way It Is
74 Live At Mid South Collisium
Yes, I'll do that at some stage. Thanks for the suggestion.
I bet MGM in the states have got a pile of love letters from Japanese fans
The LP didn't come out in Japan until September. Not sure if Elvis was at MGM Studios after July so they may indeed have been left there.
Japan released head and shoulders above u s released
They did often go the extra mile with packaging, it's true. Thanks for watching.
Not sure about the singing 😄😄👍
And that was me on a good day.
