I am glad the producers of the FTD version made the decision to include ALL the songs from the concert for the reasons you mentioned. If my memory serves, an LP titled, "Elvis Greatest Hits, Volume 1" was released in 1981. During my visit to the record shop that day, I was fortunate to discover the "U.K. version" of the same LP titled, "The Sound Of Your Cry." My favourite track on the U.K version was, Steamroller Blues, which I believe was from the Memphis recordings of March 20th, 1974. Would you have the LP I am referring to, and would you care to share your views for us? Cheers, Rob Nelson, from London, Ontario, Canada.

Japan has always other covers and obi.. The picture is from 72. Elvis got the mermphis suits and the Indian jump.. The concert is in fact not complete missing 5 songs. Later it's coming out complete.
@@ElvisPresleyInJapan Hi David, As much as I love Elvis I have to say Cliff Richard is my Favourite . Cliff changed with the times and reinvented himself in the 70's with L.p.-I'm nearly famous now. He always gives 100% in his shows and everything he does. His Duet with Carla Williams on her L.P. a Tribute to the Carpenters where they sing Hurting each other is MAGNIFICENT. She has said Cliff is the most caring & wonderful person she has ever met. Glad for their friendship after the loss of 2 dear friends that we All loved- CILLA BLACK & OLIVIA ST JOHN. As I'm sure you know Cliff has always stated " That if there was no Elvis, There would be no Cliff". Cheers Mate
From the time that live LP was first released, I thought the sound was bad. Wasn't crazy about the song list, either. Would have enjoyed it more, had Steamroller been included. In recent years, I bought the double CD. Don't have the FTD version, but your description makes it sound like a superior release, for sure!
Hi Dave those FTDs are really top draw on sound and packaging,a wonder if they’ll do a vinyl version ,a don’t have this FTD but al be looking for it ,the difference in sound as you rightly say is really noticeable the FTD being far superior, those Japanese versions looked really nice ,a love this concert EL sounds happy you can tell it in his voice he done some sun material as well which he didn’t do enough of for me around this time ,he’s performing in his home town n it shows,al bet this concert was great to watch ,av recently been watching some footage of EL in 72 at madison square garden filmed by a fan in the audience ,he must o been close to the stage as the footage is sensational for me ,EL in blue looks and sounds great ,a suppose we always assume EL is in a white jumpsuit but he was in blue and it looks amazing ,the quality o the footage is really great,it’s amazing to me this guy or gal wasn’t caught,am assuming it’s a guy but who knows wat the gender was it’s just great footage ,lovely piece Dave ,take care ,tony 🎶🎶🎶🎸🎸🎸
Yes, it's a fun show, one that I've only come to appreciate in recent years. It would be interesting to do a video on which Sun songs Elvis did live in the '70s and when he stopped performing them. Trying to Get to You seems to be the one he stuck with right until the end. Is that MSG footage the same as that used on the DVD that came with the Prince from Another Planet set? Cheers, Tony.
@@ElvisPresleyInJapan Hi Dave yeah it’s the prince from another planet footage ,av always wondered why those madison sq gardens were not filmed ,could it o been because of EL on tour had just wrapped ,a wonder a missed opportunity for me ,yeah trying to get to you was performed at the Memphis show ,it’s a great tune that one of his best sun cuts along with baby let’s play house ,a love all o them but those two are me favs ,take care Dave 👍
This site is a true treasure! Any insight into the so-called Japanese Aloha filmed for Japanese TV? There were a few quite inferior bootleg copies in the 80’s (I believe confiscated by EPE). Thanks for the fascinating posts!
Thanks a lot. I've never done any research into the Aloha broadcast in Japan apart from reading the Japanese wikipedia page. If I do so and find out anything of interest, I'll certainly do a video on it. Thanks for watching.
Hi David yes the F.T.D and Legacy editions are far superior with no added applause I do have both, along with the false start before "Help Me" some of the dialogue before "I Got A Woman" is missing from the F.T.D and it was on the original album! .The Legacy edition also features another show which was issued by F.T.D as "48 Hours To Memphis" B.T.W "Love Me" was on the original album I normally date Elvis 1972 concert photos by the "square" mics he was using at the time, good stock of Elvis albums in that shop, thanks for the video.
Hi MJL. Yes, you're right about Love Me. It's All Shook Up that wasn't on the original. I hadn't spotted the missing dialogue before I Got a Woman either. They took out the "bad laryngitis" joke, didn't they. I quite enjoy that exchange, actually. Thanks for the info.
@@ElvisPresleyInJapan the original album did Not have "FAKE" applause , the CD FTD turned down the audience applause , Like they did to ALOHA LPs , ++++++++++++++++
What’s odd about this recording is that they made a BIG deal about setting up microphones in the audience and in the lobby to capture the excitement of a live concert, yet the audience level is really no different than any other of his concert releases!?! Where is the screaming crowd when he walks on stage, or when he swivels and shakes ?!? Nothing more than usual. But i agree, the overall sound is superb! IMO, the best sounding recording of a live Elvis concert … period!
Hey David my dear friend :) hope youre doin good :) about this LP, cant remember when i played this LP, its been a long time, i agree that the FTD CD is awesome ! Didnt know the 2 versions of the Purple and Blue ;) need to check what i got, but the black suite cover i do have, Cheers, your friend: Lior
Hi, Lior. I hope you're well. You probably have the RVC blue and orange version. It's the most common one. If you have the purple one, well done. It's not easy to find. If you have the blue and red one, you're very lucky. That's the hardest one to find. I don't think the colour differences were design choices. Probably due to the ink they used. Thanks, Lior.
Hey David. The overdubs of the audience on his live albums was always a pet peeve for me. It was so obvious that it was natural or spontaneous. Nice selection of LP’s at the end. 👍👍👍👍
Hi David True great ftd cd Elvis Recorded Live on Stage in Memphis sound much better keep up cool video on elvis take care look forword more great video on elvis
I do love the wrapping on that first Japan pressing, cool pic! Wish we could have that too in Europe... As for the sound, we grew up with it, back then we did'nt know about the overdubbed crowd, but is was exciting... Now years later, many versions later, FTD, bootlegs, BMG/sony , with the complete concert.. i still feel the sound of the original is the one i like most... Sure, it has the fake crowd, sure it's edited, but think that away.. and you have a very well mixed recording! Or... maybe i'm nostalgic....😀
I know what you mean. To me, though, it was always odd that the crowd got so excited at the beginning of Let Me Be There, not a hit for Elvis. It made sense when I eventually found out that the applause was fake. Thanks for watching.
Agree, played the UK original release recently and it is a bit muddy sounding. On vinyl I enjoyed the Music On Vinyl 4LP release with the additional test concert. The FTD CD version does sound great! Steamroller Rocks!
@@ElvisPresleyInJapan here's what I find strange. The earlier FTD version sounds so much fresher and open than the later Legacy edition version which has Elvis vocal very dry. Now I read Elvis liked a lot of reverb on his concert sound. So the test run on the Legacy edition CD has all the reverb and sounds fresher like the FTD, but it's in Mono, so no 16 track to make a better mix. The bass is so much better on the test run too. So essentially you need both release. The FTD for the best concert sound and the Legacy for the March 18th show. The Legacy does include the false start too,
When I was a kid my dad bought the Recorded Live On Stage In Memphis LP and it was THAT album that hooked me on Elvis the most. The fake audience overdub made the show more entertaining and exciting. I was disappointed when I heard the FTD as the audience was more quieter and not as enthusiastic sounding as RLOSIM had.
Yes, I can see how you'd miss it if it wasn't there anymore. It never even occurred to me, when I was young, that the applause was dubbed. Once I found out, though, I could start to "hear" it and that's when it started to bother me a bit. Thanks for watching.
There's a photo of the RCA recording truck parked at the back of Graceland. I think that would have made a great photo for the Boulevard album. Thanks for watching.
I Totally agree with you, but now that I have the Elvis Memphis boxset, even my Ftd version of this concert doesn;t cut the newly Memphis concert. I think the memphis is the best version of this concert by far now. Another question. I have Madison square garden ftd boxset, Prince from another planet and the 2 cd sony legacy digipack from madison. There were 4 shows but only two are recorded or released? The evening and afternoon in de the garden? Where are the other two shows? Next to that I find Prince from another planet strangly mixed. You would expect James on the right ear and the horns on the left etc. But they are turned around compared to madison from ftd which is way better. As musician myself i found it strange that they would mix as of you are standing behind Ronnie Tutt watching the crowd. Instead of standing in de crowd and hear James on the right side, horns slighty left etc. Perspective is everything i think.
I think the other two MSG shows were not professionally recorded. There's a book that came with a CD with an audience recording of one of the unreleased shows. Good point about the "Prince" set. I haven't listened to it in a while, but I'll listen for the stereo switching. Thanks.
@ElvisPresleyInJapan sad actually, they were there to record the 2 sets. They could easily record the others while equipment was in place. Missed opportunity for Legacy and selling other albums
@ElvisPresleyInJapan same goes for Memphis concert. The FTD is also not complete, while the Elvis Memphis Boxset concert is complete. And way much better sounding. Huge difference in drums (I'm drummer with own Coverband for 35 years) James guitar is more brilliant, horns and other brass is amazing in the left headphones in front and sharp. But again just my own personal humble opinion 😁
Bought this album about '85. Still have it. Thought it unusual, at first, with cover, showing image of Graceland. Might have been more appropriate to put a concert image. I've met a few who love this concert, I thought earlier ones were better. Didn't buy FTD version, but opted for Legacy, strangely still haven't played it. Speaking of mixes, back in '84 I bought 'The Ultimate Performance' by K'Tel, terrible album. Japanese like to be ahead with their covers, very nice, but I like standard releases too. All adds to the variants for collectors.
Yes, funny how they used live shots for all those '70s studio albums but used a photo of Graceland for this album. Perhaps we take photos of Elvis' home for granted now. It was probably a bit of a novelty at the time. As you know, people can even go inside now. The Ultimate Performance on K-Tel. That brings back memories. I seem to remember quite liking it but I haven't heard it in years. Thanks for watching.
The original album was never a favorite of mine because of the overdubs. It was obvious that it was a fake audience on it. When it was released on legacy a few years ago I noticed what a difference it was. I love it now especially with the added songs.the Japanese pressing is so much better in its presentation. Thanks David.
I've really only discovered this album over the last two or three years after seeing videos on YT and reading the very complimentary sleeve notes. It was a great show made even better with, as you say, the other songs he performed. Thanks for watching.
The bootleggers beat the FTD release at that time. Unfortunately my cds are stored due to renovating the home. The overdubbing is a bit of an overkill. Read that the pics taken from the show the Colonel wasn't impressed. So pics were taken at Elvis's home instead. I also have Music O Vinyl 4 lp set which comes with booklet. And the 2 standard cd set. I don't have the FTD lp set. FTD cd set I have. I do like the in house joke calling Bruce Goose! During a song. The Late Aussie Bruce Jackson, Elvis's sound Engineer. I'm looking forward to testing out the cd4 version once my tennis are done.😊
Interesting theory about the cover. A lack of photos from the actual show never stopped Parker from using other live shots though, even on the studio albums. I must admit, I'm tempted to get hold of that 4-LP set. Thanks for watching!
@@ElvisPresleyInJapan I read the article about the album cover issues. Ed Bonja talked about so the Colonel was mad at the results that night. So Colonel said to do something. That's why we get the home pics. Yes the New Music on Vinyl is worth it but has gone up in value. Best to track it done in Japan where it can be cheaper.
Dont know their names but I did read the trivia about them People were recording the live concerts obviously the sound wasnt the best It's on google Elvis live concerts bootlegs!
🤔...the FTD CD Version HAS the OVERDUB APPLAUSE for sure! The SONY Legacy 2CD and 4LP Set from 2014 don't have it (i don't like this Version, it sounds like a Soundboard). I have the 1st and 3rd Vinyl japanese Vinyl Album in my Collection. Very nice is the Vinyl/CD Version early 1990's from RCA/BMG Brazil with a 1973 Pic on the right Corner of the Front Cover Album (if you listening closely, Brazil copied an original Vinyl with all the glorious crackles and pops for both Releases). I love the orignal US Quadro LP Release the most, the black frame Cover-Design is stylish👌 Thanks David ✌️
I heard that the second concert on the Legacy set is a soundboard but I haven't listened to it. There is also a Japanese quad LP. I didn't show it this time as I'll be doing a video on all the Japanese 4-channel LPs at some point. Thanks, Harald.
@@ElvisPresleyInJapan Paul thank you; well it makes me thinking of Jarvis Overdubs in 1974; but if you listening closely, the overall Sound is still the same but better remixed with "Jarvis Applaus 👏 " Sorry if i'm wrong, but listening to original RCA vs FTD'S Release i can't find Sound Quality difference on the Applause, yes FTD was a lot of better remixed...well, i'm 61years old so do my ears; but thanks for your absolutely top input Paul 👌
The Legacy edition CD is FAR better sound quality than the FTD. The FTD is drowned in reverb and is a complete dog's breakfast. The Legacy edition is how it always should have been and it's complete, plus has an extra concert included (which, sadly, is drowned in reverb)!
Some of the sound mixes on Elvis’ albums from the 1970’s are absolutely horrible !! I purchased the Promised Land album when it was first released (obviously when Elvis was alive) .. at first I thought something was wrong with my very good for the times stereo system … ! It sounded like it was mixed cheap and haphazardly !! with a horrible muffled sound !! It wasn’t till Elvis passed and FTD remastered it with modern technology that it now sounds like it should have.
I was never that aware of it as a young fan as I never had great audio equipment. So long as the record didn't have scratches, that was enough for me. But I've never heard such a noticeable difference between two releases of the same recording as I did with the LP and FTD versions of the Memphis live album. Thanks for watching.
I compared the far superior remix of that part of 'Let Me Be There' you have at the end here with the Legacy version that I have, and they sound quite close, and both far better than the weak original mix which caused me to lose interest in playing this back in the day.
Why don’t you people leave him alone! You are not true fans. Did you see him live? Colonel Parker had his hands in all of his productions. You don’t like the album throw it out! My God! They also call his movies by different names over seas. It’s not Harem Scarem in England it’s called Harem Holiday!
Felton (Failtone) LOVED to add fake audience applause and/or reactions to most of Elvis' live LPs. I would prefer that he ELIMINATED as much as possible instead.
I agree, although I don't think he was the only one who did so. In particular, it's annoying when you get a big audience reaction at the start of a song that wasn't even that well known, such as Let Me Be There.
@@ElvisPresleyInJapan True, it was fairly common on live albums. Sometimes they even manufactured live albums by adding audience sounds to studio recordings. And VERY often they bolstered live recordings with studio enhancements.
So what you are saying is you have some rare Elvis records that you won't play again because they are worth money. That's why you bought them isn't it? You need a woman 👩 in your life.

"Judge not, that you be not judged."
Japan has always other covers and obi.. The picture is from 72. Elvis got the mermphis suits and the Indian jump.. The concert is in fact not complete missing 5 songs. Later it's coming out complete.
Thanks Dave! Great video as always. I may need to start checking out those FTD cd's! Any news on the book?
Might be worth it if they're like this one. The book is on schedule for publication late spring / early summer. Thanks, John.
Opinion seems divided over the FTD and Legacy versions. The FTD sounds great to me though. Thanks for watching.
Love the cover of the first album.
The same guy took plenty of other photos of Elvis that ended up on posters in a set of 1973 reissues. Cheers.
Graceland is amazing. I have been to Graceland with my family and it’s really cool.

How can get this!!!!!?
You can only get it used now, I'm afraid. The 2-CD Legacy version is supposed to be great too.
How do you play them ftds they wont fit in any normal cd player
What’s odd about this recording is that they made a BIG deal about setting up microphones in the audience and in the lobby to capture the excitement of a live concert, yet the audience level is really no different than any other of his concert releases!?! Where is the screaming crowd when he walks on stage, or when he swivels and shakes ?!? Nothing more than usual. But i agree, the overall sound is superb! IMO, the best sounding recording of a live Elvis concert … period!
Beats me. It wasn't as though he played in Memphis often either. The music sounds great, though. That's the main thing. Thanks for watching.
i love this cd i am like you on that one i have the vinly to of this too
Thanks for watching.

I remember the video you did on that hysterical woman on the In Person album. Are there more fake overdubs? 🤪 Thanks, Ed.
Hi David True great ftd cd Elvis Recorded Live on Stage in Memphis sound much better keep up cool video on elvis take care look forword more great video on elvis

you welcome David my friend
Japan didn't package the album sir. RCA produced the kit for the Asian market.
No, the covers were printed, and the records pressed, in Japan. Elvis' Japanese records were made in Japan from as early as 1956.
Got the lp. And the cd..did by the cd when it come out
Nice one.
I agree I prefer the complete concert. Which I have on legacy.
What do you think of the warm-up concert on Disc 2? Any good?
So that photo I’m sure was not taken in Hawaii
Eagle white Jumpsuit was used as we all know.
But I could be wrong 😮
Hawaii, HIC Arena, November 18, afternoon show. "Black Conquistador" jumpsuit.
Agree, played the UK original release recently and it is a bit muddy sounding. On vinyl I enjoyed the Music On Vinyl 4LP release with the additional test concert. The FTD CD version does sound great! Steamroller Rocks!
What do you make of the dry-run concert?
@@ElvisPresleyInJapan here's what I find strange. The earlier FTD version sounds so much fresher and open than the later Legacy edition version which has Elvis vocal very dry. Now I read Elvis liked a lot of reverb on his concert sound. So the test run on the Legacy edition CD has all the reverb and sounds fresher like the FTD, but it's in Mono, so no 16 track to make a better mix. The bass is so much better on the test run too. So essentially you need both release. The FTD for the best concert sound and the Legacy for the March 18th show. The Legacy does include the false start too,
@@elvispresleycollectorsgroup Thanks for the info. I'll look out for the Legacy set.
have you heard bob joyce signing "cant help falling in love with you"? it was uploaded yesterday
Hi David. Was that a record store in Shibuya? What is it called?
Hi Todd. That was Disk Union in Shibuya.
They should have used a photo of Midsouth coliseum insted.... And Graceland for EP blvd and Moody blue
There's a photo of the RCA recording truck parked at the back of Graceland. I think that would have made a great photo for the Boulevard album. Thanks for watching.
@@ElvisPresleyInJapan I think they used that inside the Jungleroom FTD
@@bobdylansweden6 Maybe that's where I saw it.
Elvis Christian music so great Elvis did this Frist Loveed Our Heavenly Father God Christian group Think You Are Savior Jesus Chitst Amen 🙏

I have this album
Nice one.
@Paul Gwyn No, I don't annoy the neighbours, we are respectful here!

Then you'll be looking forward to that upcoming compilation - Elvis, The Tin Can Remixes 😉
I SHOULD HAVE KEPT MY LP'S
Many of them can be bought cheaply. I sold all mine in the '90s and just started again about 20 years ago.
The illustration looked like Engelbert Humperdink!...
😆

I love the orignal US Quadro LP Release the most, the black frame Cover-Design is stylish👌

Can't say. Never heard the Legacy. The FTD sounds great to me.
@@ElvisPresleyInJapan I guarantee you will never listen to the FTD again once you have heard the mix on the legacy release. I got rid of mine.
Great. Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.
