This could possibly be your best video in sometime. I’ve been struggling with carnivore and as of last night shifted back to Keto without the crazy. Good work Thomas
Bro. Carnivore is just stupid. Nothing to be gained that Keto doesn’t do but just with less vitamins and minerals, variety, and massive destruction for the environment. Eat your broccoli, your butter, your dark leafy greens, and proteins and stop obsessing
My grandmother lived to be 98, she was from Europe and ate a "Mediterranean" diet, which included extra virgin olive oil. She also ate lots of vegetables and fruit and included rice, potatoes, bread, pasta, beans, cheese, eggs, nuts, anchovies, sardines, fish, chicken and pork in her diet, and even beef once in a while. Her diet was primarily a whole food diet with the most processed being extra virgin olive oil while cooking or on salads, bread, pasta, cheese and a bit of sugar and flour for baking. Twice a week, she ate a vegetarian/pescatarian diet and fasted until noon (it was for religious reasons). Of most importance was that she was surrounded by family, had an overwhelming devotion to God, walked every day, she was not on any medications. She did not abuse food, alcohol or other drugs, and she did not smoke. What worked for her may not work for anyone else, every BODY is unique. Blessings of good health and well being to everyone ❤️
Unfortunately most products in America have had the fiber stripped so that they can use it to make other products. So that makes finding clean whole grains a bit harder for most. Also here there are so many variations of the Mediterranean diet here in the US. Most people I have talked to about it don't understand how to do a proper Mediterranean diet. They want a lot of chicken and red meat. Chicken red meat and sugars should only be eaten at most once a week. The meals are also very small but they have many meals. I love your message I just wish the US could get better information and healthier food to everyone. So many places around the world have a lot of the additives that are in our food banned. They also provide so much more info on the labels for their products.
@@Life_and_Love growing up the way I did, we always had, and I continue to have, a garden. The quality of our food is not always good, to say the least. We can only do the best we can. But, starting out by limiting the “foods” we eat that come from a box is a good start.
@@mamma1506 Yes, with no garden I buy from local farms and the local market. I also like to get my meats there. I try as often as I can to get organic as well. I also try to eat as clean as I can as well. But when you are out it can be so hard. Especially when your friends pick the place 😂
I love this discussion. Lost 60 on Keto. Hit menopause and gained back 10. Went carnivore but got super bored with my food. Started swing dance and am totally hooked on it as my primary exercise. Been experimenting with adding some carbs back in. "Cheated" and had a low sugar cheesecake and was able to dance til 2 am, at age 59. Seems being mostly keto/carnivore with occasional carbs and allowing for beaufiful dinners with friends occasionally is a great balance.
This is good to know. I've been doing Keto on/off since 2013. I'll be 50 this year. I started Carnivore in November, and also cut alcohol out of my life. I have started losing weight again and am even eating close to a stick of butter a day now (ref. Dr. Susan Bright). I also started Iodine per her and Dr. David Brownstein's advice. I'm at my lowest weight in a long time and my muscles are growing with only 2-3 light workout sessions per week. My body is shrinking with little effort, but it's shrinking in the right places. It's amazing how Carnivore has changed my life. I did it for mostly health reasons as I have had long-haulers/post-COVID since November, 2021. It's been brutal and I've had all sorts of health issues and was ultimately put on 7 prescriptions. I'm slowing weaning myself off of them. I am still hopeful that this new way of eating and getting strict will help me get healthy again. HOWEVER, we are going out of town in a few weeks and will be away 9 days. My husband (who also joined my WOE/and I'm the chef) and I are dedicated to staying as strict as we can, but we aren't going to police ourselves. I will stick to this way of eating MOST of the time, for as long as I can, but I can't for sure say it will be forever. It will work for me now... and hopefully all of vacation.... and when I get back... and hopefully for months ahead while my body continues to heal and metamorphosize before my eyes. Thanks for your post! I won't feel so guilty if a carb passes my lips while we are on the islands!
Whatever works for you. Just whenever you feel any symptoms, anything that doesn't work for you go back to carnivore just ruminant meat, maybe pork no eggs no milk and 80% CALORIES FROM FAT!!! few months and try other foods again
I lost close to a hundred on keto then menopause I gained back 40 and can’t lose an ounce eating the same thing but I have a horrible time eating carbs because I did low carb soooo long but I really think my body needs something different I mean even fasting doesn’t work my blood sugars stay elevated eating barely any carbs only through veg and a tiny bit of berries 😢😢
Go paleo! It allows quality carbs from potatoes, sweet potatoes, pumpkin and carrots. You will have lots of energy and you won’t feel as bloated as on a keti diet. Keto had way too much dairy for it to be considered healthy.
@@intentionallyinpired Try alternative day fasting. This maybe works for you. I eat at 5pm, fast the night until day next day, fast the whole next day and night and the next morning I fast until 5pm and I eat Keto/Carnivoreish food and i repeat everything. This fasting method is so effective for me. I lose every second day 2,2lbs.
Great videos guys. I was keto for 10 months and now carnivore for the last three. I've lost 148 lb so far. Most of the weight loss was keto and fasting. Carnivore feels amazing. Cleared up a lot of digestive issues heartburn migraines. Now that my 3-month challenge is done I am making my own rules and running my own Temple as I see fit. I will remain very heavily animal-based but I've started to add some things back in like olives pickles mushrooms fresh squeezed lemon juice and soon berries. I think sauerkraut might also be on that list soon. I also feel that the occasional cheat is necessary to keep me grounded. I think I'm also going to add back olive oil avocado oil and coconut oil. I'm definitely not going to go the Paul saladino style because I don't want to bring my pre-diabetes back but some things every now and then in moderation I think are going to be fine
2 quick things I hope hep you, pick kimchi over sauerkraut, I believe Thomas has a video on it for more info and also berries are great but fruit consumption should be in sync with activity level and definitely eaten in the mornings
Carnivore is an excellent intervention. For people with real problems, it seems to have almost magical effects. But for most people, if they just avoid processed sugars and seed oils that is really where most of the problems are coming from. That being said, those are in like 90% of the food you will find at the store and almost 100% of anything you get at a restaurant.
@@wigglywrigglydoo It's my understanding that extra virgin olive oil is much less processed and contains high amounts of mono unsaturated fats that aren't as oxidative or inflammatory. This is what sets it apart from other highly processed plant fats like vegetable/canola oil
Though coconut oil could be considered ancestral (many tropical hunter gatherers thrive on this) I would stick to animal fats rich in the fat soluble vitamins, fats like beef/sheep tallow, non commercial lard, butter and ghee. Especially tallow and lard are rich in mufa oleic acid. And keep in mind, animal fats were the driver of our encephalisation, read up on the Expensive Tissue Hypothesis, that also puts stupid veganism to rest.
This conversation is pure gold, from start to finish. Thanks for bringing in Mark. Haven't hung out with him in a while, and I'm reminded of what a great resource he is for these kind of conversations. Brilliant video, Thomas.
Something people often forget is that, back in the day, people moved and workedhard to get even a little of what we just for to the fridge or pantry for. They probably burned a tremendous amount of calories just living. We have it too easy most times.
True for the most part. Actually, CrossFit style athletes - exercisers are probably doing way more physical activity than hunter gatherers back in the day. The average sedentary westerner is of course doing much less. However, at the same time, hunter gatherers spent a lot more time chilling and doing nothing than people tend to think. They were in many ways way less stressed than we are these days
Mark is a perfect example of someone people should be emulating when it comes to lifelong health and fitness. He's nearly 70 but physically fit, mentally sharp and still very active in his career. Love the message of getting away from the dogma, living healthy and enjoying your life!
We should certainly look to Mark as an example to follow! By doing so, we can all share in the following experiences: consuming potential human carcinogens and anti-nutrients found in vegetables, embracing the bloating associated with vegetable consumption, accepting the occurrence of excessive gas and multiple daily bowel movements, and even celebrating the presence of partially undigested vegetable bits in our stool. Let's all emulate Mark and partake in these wonderful experiences!
Yes, they are undeniably open-minded! They embrace the consumption of potential human carcinogens and anti-nutrients. They enthusiastically welcome the bloating that can be attributed to vegetables. They readily accept excessive gas and multiple daily bowel movements. They even celebrate the sight of partially undigested bits of vegetables in their stool. Much applause to Thomas and Mark Sisson for their remarkable openness to these experiences!
Mark's summary from 4-6 min has been my philosophy and practice since i discovered whole foods and got a clue (after losing 90 lbs) in 1992. Driven by whole foods/primal ancestral thinking ever since, I've used fasting, intermittent, raw, seasonal etc in a flexible approach that avoided fads, recognized the social act of eating as sacred, completely discarding the very ideas of guilt or "cheating", and basically having my "cake" and eating it too mindset you might call "setting the game up to win". I honor cravings (sometimes pure nostalgia), and I listen to my body as part of the process. Liberating and powerful for me, and at 51 I don't have a Dr, dont use pharmaceuticals, and I thoroughly enjoy eating. Sometimes i get more strict/disciplined if energy seems low, but i Don't obsess over any of it, and it all seems to serve me almost without fail for all of life's situations that demand we have flexibility incorporated into our approach. Great video...be smart, connected and curious and above all else...conditon yourself there is no right or wrong...its all an experiment in maintaining a good relationship with food and not becoming neurotic in the face of a complex world of food (and garbage) that we navigate. Bon apetit all 💪 The info is abundant, but intuition and
Simple - whole foods where possible, minimally processed, eating in context of the joy of culture and family, litening to your own body at different ages and stages and in context of your goals, eating slowly, offering up gratitude that you have food. Bottom line - there is no one best diet for life for everyone. Get free of the fads, the advertising industry and get educated about what works fpr you. Thanks thomas for sharing all the current research. Always informative and interesting!
I agree with you 100%! I get tired of the arguing about which diet is best. Every BODY is has different needs. I did lose a lot of weight on keto for 2 years and once I got down to my goal weight I started incorporating foods that I had learned were healthy for my body and worked for me. Now I eat cleaner, have some healthy carbs, fast, get good sleep, exercise and try to take the best care of myself! Cheers!🥂

@@healthhollow7218 What are the healthy carbs that are consumed??? Just asking because I would like to restart keto and add carbs to a minimum in the start of it so that I don't gain weight, in the event that I have a carb during a celebration. I feel if my body knows it's going to have a certain SUGAR it won't struggle what to do with it. Like when I removed ALL sugars then had a so called cheat meal I would again CRAVE for days.
I’ve completed Whole30, was on Paleo for years, Keto and IF for cognitive improvement. All have their benefits and level of difficulty. What took years to understand for me was portion control on top of a clean diet. Calories in and calories out. I find weighing your food and calorie intake (exception veggies) greatly improves each of these styles of diet. Again, this was just my experience.
This video was very informative. Been on keto with a little carb ( fruit sometimes) for 6 months. Lost weight, feel better, diabetics better but sometimes you want to eat something different. Also, do IF a few times a week. Eat two meals a day & a small snack for dinner. God made our bodies to function & survive without processed foods. We are fearfully and wonderfully made!
*METABOLIC FLEXIBILITY*. 🎯Mark has NEVER strayed from this message. Great interview, Thomas, and thank you for letting him talk without interrupting, as SO many interviewers too often do. Love the idea of coming "full circle" to his (and others) original "Primal Blueprint" and/or variations on the theme! "There is more than one way to skin a cat" !
I’m glad Mark is getting back to his roots. I think I’ve read all of his books. IMHO “The Primal Blueprint” was the most helpful to the most people. I don’t want my diet to be any more restrictive than necessary.
I read Primal Blueprint 11 years ago and stuck with it ever since. I had an annual physical a few days ago and the doctor said I was probably the healthiest patient he’s seen in a long time. I’m mid-late 40s. No meds. I follow the rules in the PB. Move, lift, play, sunlight, and eat primal foods. 80/20 too. 80% of my diet is dialed in. 20% is social and relaxed.
Thank you Mark. I am your age. I am also an INFJ (Myers-Briggs MBPI). I have committed myself to the regimens that were covered in this episode .As a result, I am in excellent health However, your comment about becoming Intuitive hit home for me. I naturally depend on intuition to inform my activity. Be Well and Happy.
To be honest guys, me as an ancestor I can tell you that Paleo is the supreme king of diets. Eat meats, vegetables, some legumes, fats, butters, oils, nuts and seeds with plenty of good juicy fruits, water, wine, coffee, tea, coconut water etc…
I have been between low carb and keto for 14 years now. It works great for me. Make the odd treat with ground nuts, whey protein and sweeteners. Have a great cheese cake recipe. I do extremely well on dairy, which in fact matches my ancestors diet. However, I had all the signs of gluten intolerance since age 5. Chronic constipation, arthritis in my knees, etc. Finally diagnosed at the age of 48. Read Good Calories, Bad Calories at age 52. Watched The Oiling of America. Changed to the old 1950s British diet in the prologue. Removed all seed oils, but will eat a few nuts with it on occasion. As long as it is limited I can handle little bits without gut issues. If I eat out I take ox bile to handle the oils. Otherwise big gut problems. I do better without grains, but will eat 3 or 4 Mary's crackers on occasion. I just do not go crazy. Can not handle lugumes at all. One green bean and I bloat like crazy. I love green and yellow beans. Abusive relationship. They hate me and cause extreme pain and bloating. Wish I could eat peanut butter. But I can't. But lots of other vegetables out there. Carrots, onions, squash, tomatoes, etc. Like berries and enjoy when in season. Have my clementines ever Christmas. I have my glass of red wine every night. But I have noticed a number of extremes starting in the low carb community. Much like the extreme religious extremes in the vegan community. Glad to see things are moving away from the extremes. Sometimes I don't eat until supper. Sometimes I eat breakfast. I must eat at night, before bed. Protein and fat. This is one of the things they say not to do. But if I don't, I do not sleep and sleep is necessary. Again, it works for me and has for 14 years.
Great video! I have been thinking along the same lines for about a year. You got to mix it up a little; keto, Paleo, carnivore, Mediterranean, IF, just keep the processed food to a bare minimum.
My diet mainly consists of whole foods like full fat meats, eggs, pork lard, seasonal fruit a few times a week, legumes (beans in chili con carne - perfect stew for Canadian winter!), lemon and ACV in pint glass with water daily, and sauerkraut to top it off!!! Works for me and it's good! Oh, and cheese 🤤
I love this video and thoughts on intuitive eating. I went hard core keto in 2020 and benefited at first but also struggled hormonally. Now I have a glucose monitor and learning that I can eat foods as long as I put those foods to an energy source. I feel like a glucose monitor is improving my relationship with food. No eating disorder but I was feeling guilty if I would eat carbs and it wasn’t doing myself good mentally. I would love more videos on glucose monitor, improving metabolic flexibility, insulin sensitivity. Thank you for all you do & trying to help others be there best version of themselves.
Two grandfathers that lived super healthy until 97 and 103. And two great grand fathers who lived also to late 90s and just over 100 years. All healthy and active until the end. One of them; my dads dad; was mr Minnesota. (When it was natural and much different builds than today). All of them were meat and potato; white bread and butter; green beans and midwest food. All preached moderation and NO high fructose corn syrup. I focus simply on these rules; as does my father who is now in his late 70s and in great health... Moderation and being active is the key to health. You can enjoy everything in moderation and you'll likely live a long healthy life.
I'm a big carnivore guy, but still watch and like Thomas videos especially since he'll do videos with saladino and chaffee and Noah syndergard. Respect to Thomas for giving the due credit to carnivore. No one can deny animal foods are truly what make us healthy. I subscribed to Thomas when he only had maybe 300k subscribers. People could eat some plants if they want but man, you sure feel good without them. Diet of Ribeyes and eggs and raw dairy and maybe some organ supplements and cheese will really make you feel good
Well, from where do you get your potassium, magnesium in carnivore? The fact that we need these minerals says that our body needs vegetables. There are vegetables that are really low in oxalates like cabbage, cucumber, tomato etc. If you have a healthy gut, I don't think that vegetables or fruits are a problem. So, if someone with a healthy gut isn't used to vegetables, he simply needs to start eating them moderately. Of course there are some people with autoimmune conditions who can't tolerate veggies, but for most people it's good.
@@alisherxolmirzayev4203 a carnivore diet of lots of red meat while drinking spring water will provide more magnesium and potassium than you'll get from plants. Do you think you actually absorb the micro nutrients in those vegetables? You need to research plant anti nutrients. Look at the work of Ken berry and Anthony chaffee and Paul saladino. If you are eating a proper human diet your need for nutrients isn't as high as you don't need as much vitamin c and magnesium or potassium as the RDA compared to a standard American diet. I have tried every major diet myself. And ive closely compared how I feel on each and done blood work. I guarantee you haven't done a carnivore diet and until you do try it your opinion isn't valid. Why are vegans universally deficient in basically everything if plants give us all these nutrients? Blood work buddy
@@alisherxolmirzayev4203 if people can tolerate vegetables then that's fine. But contrary to what we are told, they are not providing any unique benefits. Animal foods are far far superior to plant foods which only offer variety and color but nothing that humans NEED in order to survive. Yet we are told animal foods cause disease which is a lie perpetrated by liberal climate activists. Keto is legit. But carnivore is better. Nothing wrong with eating some plants but people should not be told they can't get everything from animal foods because we really evolved as carnivores and never hunted for kale and cabbage. The US government has placed corn flakes as healthier than beef
@@alisherxolmirzayev4203 I think you can get electrolytes from bone broth but I do agree it's easier to get them from Vegetables. Potassium particularly can be quite difficult to get enough of which is why I eat carnivoreish.
Here’s a thought- how about a common sense plan that just takes us back to how our great grandparents ate? (Real, whole food, reasonable portions, and LESS sugar.) I’ve done paleo/Primal off and on for years , but if I’m too strict I binge, which is WORSE. What I like about Mark Sisson is that he’s advocated an 80/20 approach. All these “ancient” diets consider what we evolved to eat, but they don’t take into consideration that we all have a lifetime of conditioning around family recipes, favorite foods, and delicious treats! I’m working on eating mostly healthy, but I REFUSE to do deprivation anymore (after a lifetime of dieting). Good food is one of life’s pleasures, and I plan to enjoy good health AND my favorite foods in moderation. (And get a LOT of exercise!)
In my opinion it all depends on what your goals are. For me Carnivore helped me with my joint gouty arthritic condition compared to the paleo diet. As soon as I was able to stabilize my pain with carnivore, started going back to paleo. I go back and forth between both forms of eating. Over all my health has vastly improved with both forms of eating. Intermittent fasting also plays a huge part in my new lifestyle of eating.
Hey you two are some of my favs and I am grateful to you both. What Paul Saladino taught me helped but I still had to customize. I still do some vegetables like cabbage and such. But mostly I get my carbs per day (less than 100g) from fruit and honey. I also found that my psoriasis came back but it was the cow kefir, when I switched to goat kefir it got better. I also found through very dry eyes that I was deficient in Vitamin C and now I fixed that. But, a hundred percent, Paul was right about seed oils. However, some linoleic acid is not bad, just like a beer every now again is not bad or fructose a little is not bad. America was eating everything all at once in excess … that was our problem. SO you have to do extreme keto or carnivore to reset your body and then play with your variety. I have to admit that changing from strict keto to more carnivore with less vegetables and some fruit has dramatically up'd my workout game and fat loss. Continuing intermittent fasting with good sleep is also key. I also flex the window sometime. Exercise is also a must.
What type of psoriasis you have? I have 2 months of guttate psoriasis, started changing my diet, eliminating sugars and slowly cutting carbs and from last week no more gluten. Had an emotional impact 2 months ago and this triggered my immune system… is getting better now but I read that trauma can actually trigger some food intolerances
Love this conversation! In regards to Saladino, he's not totally against vegetables, he tells people in his videos if they're thriving on vegetables to keep eating them. He had a history of eczema and asthma so he had reactions to vegetables when he ate them. He, just like the rest of us, is trying to figure out what works for him
I ate sweet potatoes everyday and nuts and dates for dessert. I ate Brown rice syrup in my smoothie and I still lost 30 pounds I also did fruits. I call it my keto diet and maybe it was some paleo.👍🏾 I also ate all the green vegetables I wanted I salad tomatoes onions I just stayed away from white potatoes rice corn and a lot of starchy vegetables and regular sugar. But I did have sweet potatoes and I lost weight like crazy. I did do a apple cider vinegar drink with cinnamon lemon and stevia as well.👍🏾💯
My issue is I can't just have one lays potato chip or one piece of pizza. I like it way too much. If I never eat one I'm fine. But once I start eating them I want to stuff my stomach to capacity. So that is why eating mostly meats seems to work so well for me.
Being an Asian, specifically Filipino, with a low income, what I am doing is that, I eliminated bread and flour products from my diet. I also eliminated fuits except avocado. I eat plainly cooked vegetables with egg or meat (with fat), fish or chicken.
Great video. I am currently healing on a carnivore diet that is working great for me. However my family eats differently and it’s good to know that when I feel ready I can introduce some “other” foods.
Hands down one of my favorite video's I have watched in a while. Loved the part where you touched on regenerative agriculture being important for health for us as humans as well as the plant overall. Great content as always.
I love Thomas' content, and he always says, "Do what works for you." My thoughts on this is that the approach discussed here is great for persons who are already healthy and fit and can carefully govern themselves and adjust as they move forward, and it's all good and true... Thomas and Mark are at that stage of development and awareness, whereas, frankly, many people who devourThomas' content are not. A continued (more) strict approach to diet (Keto, intermittent fasting, etc.) might be the best approach until proper metabolic fitness and appropriate internal discipline are achieved and matered. My concern is that folks who are still "on the journey" might (mis)use this message as an excuse to slack and weaken before they've achieved their goals. This is just my opinion.
And you can't be keto for a day, technically. It takes a week, a or more to get back into ketosis. Or does her really mean just low carb? Keto is very high fat!
Yes these two are fit as butchers dogs so probably can swing to wine and cheese and cheesecake. But for the rest of us who dont yet have the six packs and spend inordinate time in gyms it is a slippery slope. Ancestors did not sit pairing wine with cheese I feel certain about that.
So gratifying to see you two men having this discussion. I now have no guilt for reading and considering information from your guest, Mark Sisson's books. Mark changed my view of exercise and food.
It's not a fad to do Keto or palea, it's common sense to try adding or taking away certain avoided it's to see how it affects how you feel or your health. Blood sugar levels are raised from sugar and starches. Processed foods have chemicals. I think it's pretty self explanatory
I feel you both misrepresented Saladino's transition. It wasn't a "just-so" story he tested based on what our ancestors may have eaten. He took his body and his internal signals seriously, he was very diligent about bloodwork, read up on the clinical literature, then he visited the Hadza tribes and observed how they lived before synthesizing a holistic approach to diet/lifestyle. It would be great if everyone had access to do the same for our individual biology, but it is not the case.
Great vid! The reason diet fads are a thing is people (most of us) lack self control. Most of us simply haven’t mastered our relationship with food. We can’t trust ourselves to eat in moderation or to “eat intuitively” as Mark Sisson describes. We’re like the alcoholic that must go cold turkey and abstain completely, or inevitability fall off the wagon. Many of us have to follow a strict diet and completely avoid problematic foods, lest we fall back into addictive eating. I agree the flexible approach described here is the way to go, but one must master their self discipline before they take this approach. Flexible eating just doesn’t work for addicts.
7:16 I agree. When "Carnivore" morphed into "Animal-Based" with the addition of things like fruit and honey I thought, "Hmmm. We used to call it Paleo. "
I do a predominantly (but not strictly) pescatarian Paleo diet with a couple modifications: I allow beans a couple of times a month and I limit all fruits other than berries. I have found that if I eat like this I can eat with total abandon and I absolutely don't gain weight! 🥰💪
After trying many diets (keto, vegan, carnivore, paleo...), this is the best diet that has worked for me: -Protein: chicken, fish, turkey, eggs (no red meat or processed meats). -Carbs: fruit, sweet potatoe, oats, quinoa. -Fats: Avocado, nuts, seeds, olive oil. -Vegetables: All of them, but mainly greens. -Antioxidants: Green tea (decaf), ginger, cinnamon. -Avoid: sugar, refined carbs, wheat, red meat, processed foods, caffeine, alcohol. -Extras: Intermittent fasting (16-8 everyday) and 24 hour fast once a week. This system is what best works for me, complemented with good quality sleep, quality exercise and cold exposure.
@@Ricatonniisasavage8854 Because I follow actual scientific evidence. Having excess saturated fat in a diet icreases certain risks factors. Also, consuming red meat in a regular basis (more than twice per week), is directly linked with increase in colon cancer risk. Thats why I prefer to avoid it. I don't follow the advice on biased gurus like Paul Saladino.
Yes. I think the logical place to start is using a Whole Foods/primal approach with a “carb dial”. You adjust the carb dial based on your body. Same with lectins, etc. it does seem that it would be helpful to pull things clean, then add to see personal sensitivities
I find eating organic, grass fed whole foods make me Mentally feel better about what I'm putting into my body. I prefer not to eat dairy (only because my body doesn't agree with it). One diet is not perfect for Everyone. I eat as much as I want, when I'm hungry and as well as enjoy a glass of wine and some gluten free treats on occasion.. processed foods are out. With that said, I think trying to replicate what our ancestors ate to perform at our best is impossible because of the toxic/gmo/rancid environment we live in.
everything suggested in this video only works if you've been following along and aren't addicted to sugar and processed food, if i didn't reset my pallet with fasting and keto and ate what felt good i'd destroy myself like i was already doing beforehand
Agree yup! Maybe bring in certain foods to see how are bodies NOW react Food introduction and elimination Dairy, fruit, more fat vs protein etc Metabolically flexibility A newbie coming in may see this as eat what you want and enjoy food and life SAD WOE , many here are far , far from that now! Thank Goodness 😊
Absolutely, There are people ( like me ) that are food addicts and their brain is broken with trying to follow their intuition with food . I follow a structured plan and have support . And , after 59 years have a reprieve from the inclination use food as a numbing mechanism and buffer for difficult things in life .
I do all these and on low carb healthy diet and regular exercise. But no matter what, if I don’t eat consciously and eat more one day, I crave to eat more the next day.. so I just don’t eat what I want !!! So many yummy food around us, that I have to be ALWAYS careful every single day about what I eat.. that’s the bitter truth : if we want to be healthy and keep our weight down eat less 😢
HIIT and intervals made me hungry for carbs. Depending on the intensity of the workout I will crave carbs and can not stop eating until I get some. Breathing with Butheyko methods while exercising made a big difference and I'm not as hungry as before after exercising. This breathing method helped me massively to stay on low carb
I've tried keto...did great, then went to carnivore.. did really well with it but I never lost weight and i started to not feel my healthiest. I felt run down and I looked very pale. It did help my anxiety tho. Ive slowly transitioned to paleo style eating. I've noticed that I tend to feel better mentally and more healthier when I added more fruits and vegtables to my diet. I dont have moments where i want to binge either. During carnivore i always felt like id want to binge every few weeks. (During hormonal shifts) and then I'd be miserable. So doing the paleo has allowed me some flexibility.. less worrying about the food I am eating.. I eat mostly salmon, eggs, chicken, beef 2x times a week and I'll eat all sorts of veggies and eat fresh fruit once a day normally for breakfast. This has kept me the most sane. I cut out all processed crap. That's the main culprit I think..
I originally went keto carnivore, and I still basically am, but I do pick berries and apples and whatnot seasonally - these are far less sweet than store varieties.i also like squash and beans and tomato once in a while. Sometimes I'll even have steel cut oats, with lots of cream.
Yesss thank you for this video (finally lol). Personalized diets are so important because each region of people have microbiomes and genetics that are adapted to different diets due to your ancestry. People who have strong (pure) ancestries from regions who were adapted to agriculture from very early times like Middle-Eastern, Mediterranean, Asian cultures can tolerate grains and higher carb diets better than most people in Western Europe. There is NO one diet fits all. Likewise some ppl have intolerances to certain proteins eg in dairy and nuts, legumes and those people end up going on a low fodmap type of Paleo. Other people have autoimmune issues that they end up going on carnivore or Whole30, while others can't tolerate much meat and animal products and go vegetarian and vegan. Thank you for this. I’ve followed Mark since 2011 and though my life changed a few different ways of how I was eating since then, he originally helped me lose 60lbs doing primal blueprint. I’ve since gained that and then some because of poor eating habits and finances not following a paleo diet. I’ve always known I’d go back to this someday and after having two kids and now needing to lose 100+lbs to get back to a healthier weight I’m really ready and excited to see this next level of nutrition and advice both Thomas and Mark share.
I love this! I’ve been keto/low carb the last 3 years… went carnivore for a bit and have done fasting. I’m now realizing carbs (whole foods) are not the enemy. I didn’t realize how difficult it would be to start eating more carbs via fruits and veggies bc of the negative mindset I had developed in regards to carbs. I’ve even added in lentil and blacks beans. My fasting blood sugars (not diabetic) are lower now than what they were eating keto
I felt the same way after being keto and carnivore as you when I was adding back carbs. There is such a stima for them. I feel so much better having them now and my hair is growing back and I have way more energy. Whole food carbs have definitely helped me.
I’ve always felt I was pretty healthy . Didn’t need doctors unless I injured myself but I didn’t know what healthy was till I went carnivore. The lean body increased muscle mass not to mention endurance all while tossing my supplements in the trash. It’s simple and efficient
Me too. No one wants to binge on salad. I was keto for 3 years and never felt better but the plateaus got hard and turned into disordered eating. I could never snack and it became so restrictive. Now I have gained 33 of the 80 lbs back and I don’t know where to start.

@@ChristineSolazzo Don't worry about where to start just start. Do something. Try keto again, start intermittent fast, carnivore, paleo...just start something.
The problem with a moderate diet is that one gets sloppy and it falls apart, whereas an extreme diet tends to be restrictive. But I kind of doubt that the sloppy diet is going to repair dietary damage like type two because you're going to keep getting kicked out of ketosis. And so once you get rid of the visceral fat you can indulge more , but not before. That's fairly determinable with a tape measure. Imo
I’ve save this video to watch it over the weekend. I recently subscribed to this channel while researching the Carnivore diet. The videos are well done and informative. However, II see so many new video highlights on why other diets may be more beneficial that I’m uncertain if I should start carnivore. It appears by the video captions that each diet discusses possibly the most healthy. From carnivore to keto to Paleo to Mediterranean as well as different types of fasting. I understand that diets aren’t a one size fits all, but It’s a bit overwhelming. I suppose I should choose one and focus on those videos. To avid followers of this channel; which diets have you tried and which are you sticking with because of the measurable health benefits being achieved? THANK YOU!❤
So many are so metabolically messed up that they need to go to the extreme while they are getting to the point of metabolic health. I think it is important to get to the point where we are metabolically flexible and seasonally flow in and out of ketosis. Easy based on the season and only during the season, like our ancestors did, including fasting. These toxic plants were all prepared in very specific ways, which kept people from being poisoned like we are now because we no longer properly prepare anything plant related. Like tomatoes, the skin and seeds were never eaten and the pulp was cooked for a very long time. Most plants were fermented to a degree, which helps with cutting down on a lot of the toxins. I will have my family carb cycle, seasonally, once we are metabolically healthy again. We will eat when we are hungry and practice a couple of longer fasts each winter, like most ancestors did, which may have also helped them heal from the toxins they contained.
Two big helpings of baclava for someone with metabolic syndrome, fatty liver disease and possibly worse, would not be a good idea. I do, however, agree that one might experiment with higher carb healthy veggies or legumes without guilt. I get that. But some people trying this type of eating are very, very sick, and could really derail themselves with two big helpings of a high-sugar food.
People need diets individualized to their body. That is how Jordan Peterson’s daughter wound up on carnivore. Someone commented that many diets happen because people find what fixes their health and then promote it for everyone.
I come from South East Asia.... Malaysia. The foods here are very high in carbs and fat... Low carb and high protein is an ok challenge now compared to like 10 years ago. Being chinese, the fight to stop white rice and noodles are very very real.
25:29 in the Torah is written the harvest should be done in circle so that the corners would be given to people with less resources... if we were doing that, eating clean and just the necessary, everyone would have enough food on their tables...
After ditching processed foods, food timing seems to be more important than the food itself, for me. Not over eating is key too. And I think another problem is that all fruits and veggies are available 24/7/365. We didn't evolve eating seasonal vegetables 365 days a year. So plant toxins aren't really a problem. Its the dose of eating them all year round.
Enjoyed this , it’s funny because I’m not really one that follows trends but this is pretty much where I have ended up, but I’m not in the weight loss crowd , more someone that wanted to remove harmful crap from my diet . The keto thing didn’t work for me , can’t see the point if I can’t sleep 😂 , and I’m kind of in a type of primal type diet , eating lots of fruit as well , eating when I’m hungry , energy levels are spot on
very nice! Just one word about "raw" intuition: that does not work regarding eating utrition. Luckily you just afterwards sent off a disclaimer. Genetics is built upon scarcity, hence overeating is the primal state. As a consequence we have to simulate scarcity. And here sth comes in which Thomas calls the toolbox. Yet, I would even go one step further. It is providing the concepts, aka words, such that one can THINK and TALK about it, ... only the things we can talk about it ("language establishes Being") gain the state of reality. Once you have the concepts, and the tools and the description of how to get along you can build a secondary intuition, a culture, a meta-habit, and a conscious way of adaptation. That is what I sharpened by your channel. Thanks a lot for that.
Thomas, thank you for inviting such a lucid guest! You two are a great example to society as people who love the truth and are never dogmatic about it.
Love this video. Flexitarian has changed my life no depriving myself of nutritional whole foods...once a week fish or chicken. No more gout attacks, uric acid under control, no longer need Allopurinol. Diet and Nutrition is a spectrum find where in the spectrum is best for you. The holy trinity... Diet Exercise Sleep. ✌️
Yes. This! Thank you Mark & Thomas. More need to hear this. Seems simple… the way it should be - eat good foods, know your body, love what you eat & enjoy life! There are so many others out there trying to push some ‘fad diet idea’ to get attention, but most are junk. I’ve followed Mark’s advice for years & stayed mostly Primal with great results. It’s been awesome having him & his health coaches part of our events & community (& Metabolic Flexibility is right on as well). Keep up the great work, sharing a message that needs to be shared!
I appreciate these conversations. It’s so interesting how many in other countries completely already know these things but it’s us in the US that overcomplicate it
I understand fully the idea of aiming for metabolic flexibility. Unfortunately as a type 2 diabetic person I am now paying the price having to abstain from certain food (and I accept it fully since I am responsible for it). The last. 6 mounts have been great in order to lower my A1c around 5.7 so far by eating keto and low crabs. I have been testing myself regularly after eating all sort of foods so I can understand how my own body reacts to them. So far so good, I am proud of the advancement in the knowledge what is better for me now, thanks to guys like Thomas and Mark, and many others on RUclips. My goal is to live without medication and I am already almost there in less then a year. My only wish is that someone gets motivated to out of the American Standard Diet and whole food. Don’t be like me 🚀🚀🚀
I weighed 280 lbs a year ago, by October I weighed 210. I did intermittent fasting, and didn't realize until today, I ate a Paleo diet. Keto was all the fad, but I wasn't sure it was healthy
This could possibly be your best video in sometime. I’ve been struggling with carnivore and as of last night shifted back to Keto without the crazy. Good work Thomas
Can you go into details? I am trying to heal the gut so trying carnivore.
My thoughts exactly!!👍
I now have hyperuricemia due to carnivore and my joints hurt like he'll almost the opposite of what some experience on carnivore
@@CreatingintheWaiting were you having organs? Or just beef?
Blessings of good health and well being to everyone ❤️
low stress is key.
Genetics, low stress and rewarding relationships
What about olive oil? Other plant oils. There are studies around plant cholesterol (plant fats) causing atherogenic and plaque cumulative effects.
@@wigglywrigglydoo It's my understanding that extra virgin olive oil is much less processed and contains high amounts of mono unsaturated fats that aren't as oxidative or inflammatory. This is what sets it apart from other highly processed plant fats like vegetable/canola oil
@@wigglywrigglydoo olive oil is probably the the best of them but is easily oxidized. Better to avoid plant oils all around though. You are right.
@@wigglywrigglydoo not as much as seed oils like sunflower etc... There should be a hierarchy like omega 3 rich oils, plant oils, animal fats etc....
They were in many ways way less stressed than we are these days
that has been proven wrong. native tribal people sit almost as much as we do
Mark is a perfect example of someone people should be emulating when it comes to lifelong health and fitness. He's nearly 70 but physically fit, mentally sharp and still very active in his career. Love the message of getting away from the dogma, living healthy and enjoying your life!
Jacinto Bonilla (82) and Deshun Wang (86) are worth emulating, look them up!
Do you know what I love? You and Mark are open to being open. You're adapting. I love it, and I have so much respect for you both because of it.
Yes, they are undeniably open-minded! They embrace the consumption of potential human carcinogens and anti-nutrients. They enthusiastically welcome the bloating that can be attributed to vegetables.

The info is abundant, but intuition and
Simple - whole foods where possible, minimally processed, eating in context of the joy of culture and family, litening to your own body at different ages and stages and in context of your goals, eating slowly, offering up gratitude that you have food.
Cheers!🥂

Two classy well educated nerds giving us invaluable information. Kudos to Thomas for finding the right people to associate with.
Ok genius
For women too? What about our hormones are much more delicate
Here’s a thought- how about a common sense plan that just takes us back to how our great grandparents ate? (Real, whole food, reasonable portions, and LESS sugar.)
I’ve done paleo/Primal off and on for years , but if I’m too strict I binge, which is WORSE.
80/20?
Our body has still some 1000s of generations to go on evolution. The environment is changing fast.
Intermittent fasting also plays a huge part in my new lifestyle of eating.
mark sisson was the OG, did it right, no extremes, well rounded, good bloke

And Alan Aragon
He, just like the rest of us, is trying to figure out what works for him
What a great talk! 🙃 This video gave me some peace ahah 🙂
I did do a apple cider vinegar drink with cinnamon lemon and stevia as well.👍🏾💯
after four years as a lone hermit doing keto i have come to understand this exactly. METABOLIC FLEXIBILITY yes. ps. i turn 70 this year
My issue is I can't just have one lays potato chip or one piece of pizza.
Paleo seems the most healthy to me. Love your channel, Thomas! Great information from both of you.💞
Great video.
And you can't be keto
for a day, technically.
"Metabolically Flexible" that is so powerful, completely changes the way I look at nutrition
You can find research to support anything
Paleo always works for me without the horrible side effects of Keto and Carnivore and lose fat quicker.
Yes! Thank you.
7:16 I agree. When "Carnivore" morphed into "Animal-Based" with the addition of things like fruit and honey I thought, "Hmmm. We used to call it Paleo. "
It's almost like all these diets are just one big fad and a disgusting money grab lol. I wonder what the next diet will be in another few months
Paleo does not include fruit and honey. It also doesn't advocate eating huge amounts of protein from meat
@@jkd82 You are mistaken about fruit and honey. Also, who said anything about "massive" amounts of protein?
I do a predominantly (but not strictly) pescatarian Paleo diet with a couple modifications: I allow beans a couple of times a month and I limit all fruits other than berries. I have found that if I eat like this I can eat with total abandon and I absolutely don't gain weight! 🥰💪
basicaly you can eat anything now
After trying many diets (keto, vegan, carnivore, paleo...), this is the best diet that has worked for me:
-Protein: chicken, fish, turkey, eggs (no red meat or processed meats).
-Carbs: fruit, sweet potatoe, oats, quinoa.
-Fats: Avocado, nuts, seeds, olive oil.
-Vegetables: All of them, but mainly greens.
-Antioxidants: Green tea (decaf), ginger, cinnamon.
-Avoid: sugar, refined carbs, wheat, red meat, processed foods, caffeine, alcohol.
-Extras: Intermittent fasting (16-8 everyday) and 24 hour fast once a week.
This system is what best works for me, complemented with good quality sleep, quality exercise and cold exposure.
Year old comment, but why avoid red meat? It’s the only meat you should eat and every other meat (other than wild caught fish) should be avoided.
Each body is different. You have to find what works best for you rather than fit yourself into an eating category.
So true!
Agree yup!
Maybe bring in certain foods to see how are bodies NOW react
Food introduction and elimination
Dairy, fruit, more fat vs protein etc
Metabolically flexibility
A newbie coming in may see this as eat what you want and enjoy food and life
SAD WOE , many here are far , far from that now!
I follow this way of eating. Great interview Thomas. Thank you.
Love this video!!! Thanks to the both of you for helping so many people with their health!
This video is one of the best ones you have done. Nice to see such relaxed atmosphere between you to
I originally went keto carnivore, and I still basically am, but I do pick berries and apples and whatnot seasonally - these are far less sweet than store varieties.i also like squash and beans and tomato once in a while.
Note: Intuitive eating can help except for those who who have insulin resistance and leptin resistance and similar issues of not being able to stop eating and hormonal imbalances.
Customize your diet to you.
@@annetterhoades4873 Yes that is one thing I’ve noticed too… my hair growing back.
Slow carbs 😋
I’ve always felt I was pretty healthy . Didn’t need doctors unless I injured myself but I didn’t know what healthy was till I went carnivore. The lean body increased muscle mass not to mention endurance all while tossing my supplements in the trash. It’s simple and efficient
The bad side of food I enjoy is being able to stop from over eating. When you get old eating is one of the few thing you have to look forward to.
If you're eating the right diet for you then over eating won't be an issue.
Yes, waiting for that to happen naturally!

Imo
This is the best nutritional advice I've heard in a while.
THANK YOU!❤
Pure TRUTH. One of the best videos Ive seen in years. ⭐
Love the part on using intuition, something we need to connect with more ✌🏼
Two big helpings of baclava for someone with metabolic syndrome, fatty liver disease and possibly worse, would not be a good idea.
Fantastic video, guys! Very down-to-earth and a refreshing break from the usual Star Trek techno-babble. Love it! 😂😂😂
It was good to hear from Mark... an OG in health and fitness.
always great to receive new and updated advice
After ditching processed foods, food timing seems to be more important than the food itself, for me. Not over eating is key too. And I think another problem is that all fruits and veggies are available 24/7/365. We didn't evolve eating seasonal vegetables 365 days a year. So plant toxins aren't really a problem. Its the dose of eating them all year round.
I am been in meto for 5 yrs and my way of eating keeps changing and adapting, but it still keto
Yeeesssss so sooooo good! I absolutely love seeing all of you influencers getting together and talking about this stuff!
Enjoyed this , it’s funny because I’m not really one that follows trends but this is pretty much where I have ended up, but I’m not in the weight loss crowd , more someone that wanted to remove harmful crap from my diet .
The keto thing didn’t work for me , can’t see the point if I can’t sleep 😂 , and I’m kind of in a type of primal type diet , eating lots of fruit as well , eating when I’m hungry , energy levels are spot on
The amount of times, you eat, in a day, matters a lot.
For what ahah..
Agreed!!!🎉
Mark's advice is great for health people. Its doesn't work so much if you are ill.
very nice! Just one word about "raw" intuition: that does not work regarding eating
utrition.
Its not metabolically flexible if you cant tolerate carbs very well.
Started 12 hour-fasting because of you both. Muscular & Leaner then even at 48,49,...
Someone sent me a Kringle Danish Pastry as a holiday gift. I have learned that it is okay to have eaten a piece of this delish dessert.
Thank you so much for the hard work and incredible video. Love New information. And the insight you both have shared!
Thank you for both wearing a t-shirt.
I used to be aged 96 but after listening to and following the advice in this video im now aged 48. Amazing results.
I appreciate these conversations. It’s so interesting how many in other countries completely already know these things but it’s us in the US that overcomplicate it
Another great video - consolidating and confirming the messages you bring out in your daily videos Thomas ! Thank you 🙏
I just love Mark-- happy to see this interview....
Keto Ketovore Carnivore.. nothing else makes sense to me as a type2
Oh, and I know 210 is considered heavy. I am 6'3" tall, so that is the middle of my ideal weight range.
The underlying message to me seems to be “ listen to your body, exercise, enjoy your life” 😊☮️
