@Ciaran MacDonagh - He's referring to an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation where a starship captain called Maxwell basically sees through the bullshit of one of the protagonist empire's enemies, but in doing so threatens a peace treaty with them. He's not referring to actual history, but to a fictional story. I know this reply might count as necroposting, but it deserved to be explained.
Freedom is an illusion. The powers that be struggle to take it all and men and woman and children die in the billions claiming back small amounts of glimpses of so called freedom . But the fight must always continue and the next few generations take it for granted and the story repeats and repeats . When will people stand when it doesn't effect them directly ? Never . Sometimes always . Peace to you all
When you see things like this it must have been hard for people involved in the struggle against an ilegal army. Bitterness has probably passed but i feel sad to see the way these good people were treated by the crown. Jacobite times in Scotland were further in the past but we do not forget.
This always makes me wonder what the Crown forces were actually thinking, didn't they realise that you don't put a terrorist insurgency down by making martyrs of its leadership, however murderous they might have been. The armed rebels of 1916, unwilling to seek independence through legal constitutional means, should have been charged, tried and found guilty of murdering their fellow Irishmen.
Thing that's really got me fucked up was Connolly. Fucker couldn't even stand up to face the firing party. Biggest disgrace ever perpetrated by my country. Vengeance was the only motive. I feel uncomfortable with this.
This brought a tear to my eye
"I'm not gonna win this one, am I Chief?" "No, sir.".

@@StPlazma Unfortunately, he went the wrong way about it
That scene in star trek was so profound and most of the audiance missed it . Thank you

There is still work to do to reunite our country and all its children and all its peoples. A cause for which no doubt Tomás gave his life.
We of IRELAND understand that freedom is not FREE
Patrick Donohue
It is taken by force of arms. It is never given nor should it be taken for granted.
No you give it Nigerians and Pakistanis . Ireland is becoming a corner shop shithole.
What freedom? We have lived undee house arrest for a year and no sign of it ending. This is not freedom.
