I first heard this song when my daughter lived in Australia.I thought id never see her again. It broke my heart.Thank goodness she came home and now lives two miles from me.Offcourse i never let het know my heartache.I remember actually believing i would die without seeing her.Just a thought for all those Irish families who lost children to emigration.
I grew up in the heart of South Armagh (Silverbridge) when the hills were occupied by strangers. This beautiful song was written by singer song writer Breige Murphy, also from South Armagh. These lyrics get me everytime, especially since being in the US for 21 years the hills are roaming nightly in my dreams and my kids speak in accents not like mine.....
God your comment made me tear up.... I know that longing and sadness for Ireland... Going to see relatives during the holidays and leaving again at the end of our stay to go back to England leaving loved ones and as the years rolled on their numbers sadly dwindled but we are back home in Ireland... Where we belong... There is no place like home, it's true...
I am a Bluegrass singer. This woman is a descendent of those who brought the music to the United States, I suppose. The quality of the singing is essentially the same, still. We have a saying and don't take it the wrong way: "Sung through the heart through the nose." Beautiful. Not all nasal singing is bad, some of it is the most beautiful in the world. It has to be done correctly and this is done perfectly. Cheers.
I am an American Bluegrass and Old Time player and singer. Strikes me how similiar the aesthetics of the singing style are essentially the same. There's an old saying. "Sung from the heart through the nose." Beautiful.
We brought everything beautiful to the world her first name is pronounced E_fa just in case you didn’t know. Listen to Luke Kelly The foggy dew” Sínead Ó Connor sing the same song, the song is about Irelands uprising against the invaders the British the captured were all excuted including the leaders except one leader who was born in the states he became President for yrs . Sínead O Connor sings it beautifully but Luke Kelly was our best singer and listen to the fureys “ The green fields of France you might think we are the same we are very very similar in music and instruments 🎸 including the violin 🎻 😂😂

This is Frances Blacks' daughter,," Aoife Scort ", and she doesn't come close to Mary Black, I'm not trying to be mean, Mary was very gifted with a beautiful voice.
Yes. A very beautiful part of Ireland, governed by the UK. But for how much longer? The Brits are fed up pumping 8 billion pounds a year into it, and getting little in return. They will cheerfully hand it back to the republic, in the not too distant future. As the days go by, they are inching closer and closer together. People believed that the Berlin wall would never come down, and that apartheid would go on forever. Time changes everything.

Brooklyn and South Armagh, I couldn't actually imagine two more places so different. South Armagh is a nice part of Great Britain.
bascet1 Yes, so different places! Armagh is a beautiful part of Ireland, it is a beautiful part of the United Kingdom!
